StatCounter’s June 2026 mobile-vendor usage data puts Tecno at 17.22%, Apple at 17.16%, Samsung at 16.25%, Infinix at 15.07% and Xiaomi at 7.81%. That makes Tecno the current individual-brand leader, while Transsion is the broader multi-brand powerhouse through Tecno, Infinix and itel. Samsung remains a heavyweight because it covers mainstream Android, premium phones and a wide device ecosystem.
The ranking below measures estimated active-device usage, not retail sales, shipments or revenue.

Nigeria’s current top five smartphone brands
The most defensible current ranking uses StatCounter’s Nigeria mobile-vendor usage share for June 2026. It is a proxy for devices actively appearing in web traffic, so it should not be described as an official sales league table.

| Rank | Brand | June 2026 usage share | What the figure indicates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Tecno | 17.22% | Leading individual brand in this snapshot |
| 2 | Apple | 17.16% | Virtually tied with Tecno; premium installed base |
| 3 | Samsung | 16.25% | Leading established global Android brand in the table |
| 4 | Infinix | 15.07% | Major value and performance competitor |
| 5 | Xiaomi | 7.81% | Distant but meaningful fifth-place challenger |

What this ranking measures—and what it does not
StatCounter’s number is usage share derived from web activity. It can reflect phones bought years ago that are still active, as well as new devices. It does not directly measure:
- new-phone sales or retailer sell-through;
- shipments into Nigeria;
- brand revenue or profit;
- unique owners;
- feature-phone use outside the smartphone sample.
Month-to-month results can move with browsing patterns, sampling and the mix of connected devices. Use “latest StatCounter usage share” rather than “Nigeria’s official sales ranking.”
Why Transsion is Nigeria’s multi-brand powerhouse
“Transsion” is a parent-company story, not a single retail brand. Its Nigerian-facing portfolio includes three separate names:
Tecno: mainstream Android with a premium push
Tecno spans the POP, SPARK, CAMON, POVA and PHANTOM families. Its catalogue covers entry-level phones, camera-focused models, gaming-oriented devices and increasingly premium hardware. The official TECNO Nigeria site lists products such as CAMON 50 Ultra 5G, SPARK 50 and POP 20, along with buying, store-finding and support links.
Rank #2
- Carrier: This phone is locked to Tracfone, which means this device can only be used on the Tracfone wireless network. Tracfone plan required, activating is easy, just 3 steps.
- DISPLAY: Immersive viewing on a 6.7-inch super-bright 120Hz display with powerful stereo speakers and Bass Boost for cinematic entertainment.
- CAMERA SYSTEM: Advanced 50MP Quad Pixel camera captures sharp, detailed photos and videos in any lighting condition
- PERFORMANCE: Lightning-fast 5G connectivity paired with a powerful processor and RAM Boost for smooth multitasking.
- BATTERY LIFE: Long-lasting 5000mAh battery with TurboPower charging technology delivers hours of power in minutes.
That breadth lets Tecno position cameras, battery life, design and performance at several price levels without relying on one model.
Infinix: youth, gaming and performance value
Infinix overlaps with Tecno on price but uses a distinct identity built around performance, gaming, displays, large batteries and fast charging. It is a major alternative for buyers who prioritise specifications and entertainment features.
itel: the low-cost reach
itel targets basic smartphones and practical entry-level devices. Its Nigerian catalogue includes A, S, P and CITY series phones. Visit the itel Nigeria phone catalogue.
itel is not shown among the five brands displayed in the June 2026 StatCounter result, but it remains strategically important because it gives Transsion access to the lowest end of the market. GSMA describes Transsion’s African position and its Tecno, Infinix and itel portfolio in its mobile-phone industry overview.

Do not add the three brands’ percentages unless the same dataset supplies all three values for the same period and methodology. A group’s reach is not the same thing as one brand’s market share.
Why Samsung remains an Android king
Samsung ranks third in the June 2026 individual-brand snapshot, not first. Its “king” status comes from breadth and durability of the brand proposition:
- Galaxy A: mainstream and affordable Android models;
- Galaxy S: premium slab phones;
- Galaxy Z: foldables;
- a connected ecosystem of tablets, watches, earbuds and services;
- high familiarity, established service channels and strong resale consideration.
The Samsung Africa smartphone portfolio shows the A, S and Z lines. Samsung can therefore serve a buyer moving from a budget phone to a flagship without leaving the brand. The trade-off is that some lower-priced Galaxy models may offer less headline hardware per naira than competing value phones; compare exact models rather than brand reputations.

|---|---|---|---|
| Tecno | Affordable-to-mid-range Android buyers | Broad range, camera and design focus, strong Nigerian presence | Model-specific software support, camera processing and resale |

| Infinix | Younger buyers, gamers and performance-focused shoppers | Battery, charging, display and performance specifications | Update policy, software polish and resale for the exact model |
| Xiaomi | Specification-conscious value buyers | Redmi and POCO-style performance value | Official Nigerian stock, warranty, network bands and support |
| itel | Basic smartphone and entry-level use | Low-cost range and simple product positioning | Suitability for demanding games, cameras and long-term use |
How Apple can nearly tie Tecno despite its price band
Apple’s 17.16% usage share is only 0.06 percentage points below Tecno’s in the June 2026 snapshot. That does not prove Apple sells more new phones. A usage measure can include older iPhones that remain active, second-hand devices and buyers who value iOS, status, reliability or resale.
Rank #4
- PRIVACY DISPLAY: Automatically hide your screen from those beside you. The built-in privacy display can be preset¹ to turn on when receiving notifications, typing passwords, or using specific apps
- TYPE IT IN. TRANSFORM IT FAST: Enhance any shot in seconds on your smartphone by using Photo Assist² with Galaxy AI.³ Add objects, restore details, or apply new styles by simply typing or tapping
- NIGHTS, CAPTURED CLEARLY: From gigs to city lights, record and capture moments after dark with clarity using Nightography so your photos and videos stay crisp and clear on your Samsung Galaxy
- MAKE IT. EDIT IT. SHARE IT: Turn everyday moments into something personal with creative tools built right into your mobile phone, whether it’s a special contact photo, custom wallpaper, an invitation or more⁴
- HELP THAT KEEPS UP: Stay in the moment while Now Nudge with Galaxy AI helps you respond faster and stay organized with smart suggestions⁵ that appear exactly when you need them on your phone
Apple is therefore essential to any serious Nigerian top-five list, even though its phones generally target a much higher price segment than most Tecno, Infinix and itel models.
Why Xiaomi is still relevant in fifth place
Xiaomi’s 7.81% share is well behind the top four, but Redmi and POCO alternatives continue to appeal to technically informed buyers seeking performance for the money. The StatCounter result is for Xiaomi as a vendor; it should not be treated as a separate market-share measurement for every Redmi or POCO sub-brand.

Tight budget or basic tasks
Start with itel or entry-level Tecno, then compare memory, battery, warranty and network compatibility. A low launch price is not useful if the device lacks local service or has insufficient storage.

Camera value
Tecno’s CAMON range and selected Samsung, Apple and Xiaomi models may fit different budgets, but compare daylight, low-light, selfie and video results for the exact model. Megapixel counts alone do not establish camera quality.

Gaming and heavy everyday use
Infinix and Tecno POVA devices often target this buyer with larger batteries, faster charging and performance-focused specifications. Verify sustained performance, included charger and software support rather than relying on a brand label.
Premium ecosystem and resale
Apple is the clearest iOS choice; Samsung offers the broadest Android ecosystem. Resale value depends on condition, storage, age, authenticity and local demand, so treat it as a factor to investigate rather than a guaranteed percentage.
Checks to make before paying
- Confirm the exact model number. Regional variants can differ in 4G/5G bands, dual-SIM configuration, eSIM and VoLTE support.
- Check software commitments. Compare the operating system at launch, promised upgrades, security-update period, update frequency and preinstalled applications.
- Verify battery and charging details. Check capacity, charging speed, whether a charger is included and how easily the battery can be replaced.
- Use an authorised seller where possible. Confirm the IMEI, warranty and return window; imported units may have different firmware, bands or service coverage.
- Inspect used or refurbished phones. Check battery health on iPhones, screen and camera condition, charging port, biometrics, network lock and signs of repair.
- Price the complete purchase. Naira exchange rates, promotions and stock change quickly. Record the date, seller, RAM/storage configuration and whether the unit is new, used or refurbished.

A February 2025 StatCounter-derived analysis reported Tecno at 23.55%, Infinix at 21.73%, itel at 5.41%, Samsung at 12.36% and Apple at 9.43%. Those figures are historical and use a different month from the June 2026 snapshot; they should not be recycled as today’s ranking. See the February 2025 analysis for that earlier context.
The verdict
Tecno currently leads Nigeria’s individual-brand usage ranking, but by a fraction over Apple and with Samsung close behind. Transsion is the stronger corporate volume story because Tecno, Infinix and itel cover different price bands and identities. Samsung remains an established Android heavyweight through its Galaxy A, S and Z ladder and wider ecosystem. Apple’s near-tie shows that Nigeria is not purely a budget-Android market. For a purchase decision, use the ranking to build a shortlist, then judge the exact model’s network compatibility, software support, warranty, repair path, battery and total cost.
