Important: This roundup was published on October 20, 2025, and the principal iPad Air, iPad Pro, and iPhone offers are now marked expired. The iPhone headline discount applied to a refurbished Amazon Renewed Premium device—not a new iPhone. Of the listed deals, the M3 iPad Air was the broadest value, while the M4 iPad Pro made sense only for buyers who specifically needed its premium configuration.
What the deals actually were
The original roundup from 9to5Mac and 9to5Toys covered discounted Apple hardware during the transition to newer generations. The prices below are historical October 20, 2025 prices, not confirmed August 2026 offers.

The iPad Air listing was sometimes transcribed incorrectly as “4512GB.” The linked deal page identifies the configuration as 512GB.
Best overall value: the 13-inch M3 iPad Air
At $969.98, the 13-inch M3 iPad Air combined a large display, 512GB of storage, and cellular hardware. That was a strong specification for buyers who actually needed all three features, and the deal was reported as applying to the Starlight color at that price. Other colors could cost more. 9to5Toys described the price as a tracked best-ever deal; that claim should be understood as the publisher’s price-history assessment, not a guarantee of future pricing.
#1 Best Overall
- Super Magnetic Attraction: Powerful built-in magnets, easier place-and-go wireless charging and compatible with MagSafe
- Compatibility: Only compatible with iPhone 16 Pro Max; precise cutouts for easy access to all ports, buttons, sensors and cameras, soft and sensitive buttons with good response, are easy to press
- Matte Translucent Back: Features a flexible TPU frame and a matte coating on the hard PC back to provide you with a premium touch and excellent grip, while the entire matte back coating perfectly blocks smudges, fingerprints and even scratches
- Shock Protection: Passing military drop tests up to 10 feet, your device is effectively protected from violent impacts and drops
- Check your phone model: Before you order, please confirm your phone model to find out which product is right for you
The configuration was not automatically the cheapest or smartest iPad for everyone:
- Choose it if you want a 13-inch screen, substantial local storage, and internet access away from Wi-Fi.
- Choose Wi-Fi instead if you normally use the tablet at home, work, school, or near your phone’s hotspot. Cellular service adds an ongoing plan cost.
- Choose a cheaper iPad for streaming, reading, browsing, note-taking, and ordinary schoolwork.
- Choose an iPad Pro if OLED/HDR image quality, ProMotion, or demanding creative work matters more than price.
Also budget for an Apple Pencil, keyboard, case, and—if you use cellular—the monthly data plan. A tablet that looks inexpensive after a discount can become a much larger purchase once accessories and service are included.

The M4 iPad Pro discount was for a narrow buyer
The $1,892.43 deal covered an unusually expensive 11-inch iPad Pro configuration: 1TB storage, cellular connectivity, and nano-texture glass. The discount was real relative to the stated $2,299 list price, but the absolute price remained high.

More importantly, the deal appeared as newer M5 iPad Pro models were arriving. The related coverage noted that some lower-spec M5 configurations cost less. That means a newer, lower-capacity model could have been better value for buyers who did not need 1TB, cellular service, or nano-texture glass.

This was therefore not the best iPad Pro deal for most people. It was a sensible clearance-style purchase only if you specifically needed the premium display treatment, storage, and connectivity and the price gap versus a current-generation alternative was meaningful.
The $510 iPhone discount was not for a new phone
The 1TB iPhone 16 Pro Max was listed at $1,089 through Amazon Renewed Premium, compared with a stated $1,599 original price. The 512GB version was $1,040, making the 1TB model only $49 more expensive. On storage alone, the 1TB option was the standout value.

But “$510 off” should not be compared with a $510 discount on new, Apple-sold stock. The listing was refurbished. According to the cited Renewed Premium description, Amazon-qualified suppliers inspected, tested, and cleaned the device; the battery was expected to retain at least 80% of its original capacity; cosmetic wear should be minimal; accessories could be generic; and the listing included a 90-day replacement or refund window. The article also stated that the listing carried a one-year Amazon warranty.

Before buying any similar listing, verify the exact seller, warranty provider, return period, battery terms, and whether the phone is unlocked for your carrier. Do not assume that “Renewed Premium” means Apple Certified Refurbished or that accessories will be Apple-branded.

New, refurbished, open-box, and subsidized prices are different
Deal headlines often combine unlike prices. A fair comparison distinguishes:
- New: factory-new hardware with the applicable manufacturer and retailer coverage.
- Apple Certified Refurbished: Apple’s own refurbished channel, with its stated testing and warranty terms.
- Retailer-refurbished: a device processed by a retailer or qualified supplier, with coverage that varies.
- Open-box: typically a returned item, whose condition and included accessories require inspection.
- Trade-in or carrier price: often dependent on an eligible device, activation, installment plan, or bill credits.
For a new-versus-renewed comparison, Apple’s Certified Refurbished store, the specific Amazon Renewed listing, and a retailer’s open-box terms should be checked separately.
How to evaluate a similar deal today
- Confirm that the listing is live. The original linked pages now mark the principal offers expired. Indexed deal pages can remain visible after inventory disappears.
- Match every specification. Check generation, screen size, storage, color, Wi-Fi versus cellular, and—on the Pro—nano-texture glass.
- Identify the condition. New, open-box, refurbished, and renewed products are not equivalent.
- Check the seller and warranty. Marketplace sellers and warranty providers can change even when the product page looks familiar.
- Verify cellular details. An iPad with cellular hardware still needs a compatible plan. For an iPhone, confirm unlocked status, eSIM support, and compatibility with your U.S. carrier.
- Calculate the complete cost. Add tax, shipping, Apple Pencil, keyboard, case, charger, protection plan, and recurring cellular service.
- Compare the current generation. A discounted prior-generation flagship is not necessarily better value than a newer, lower-capacity model.
- Inspect immediately after delivery. For renewed hardware, test battery health, cameras, display, charging, speakers, buttons, cellular connectivity, and included accessories before the return window closes.
Other products in the original roundup
The October roundup also referenced deals on AirPods, an Apple Watch Ultra Milanese Loop, Mac mini, monitors, storage, charging accessories, and additional iPad Pro promotions at Best Buy. Those were likewise time-sensitive October 2025 promotions. Their inclusion should not be treated as evidence that the same prices or inventory remain available; the original deal pages should be checked for any current listing.
Quick Recap
Who should have bought each deal?
- Most iPad buyers: The M3 iPad Air, if a comparable new price were still available and you genuinely needed 13 inches, 512GB, and cellular.
- Students and home users: A cheaper Wi-Fi iPad was likely more economical for basic tasks.
- Creators and professionals: The iPad Pro only when its display, ProMotion, storage, or performance features were necessary.
- Frequent travelers: Cellular hardware can be useful, but compare the one-time premium and ongoing plan cost with using a phone hotspot.
- Value-focused iPhone buyers: The renewed iPhone 16 Pro Max was attractive only if refurbishment risk, an 80%-or-better battery threshold, generic accessories, and the stated warranty terms were acceptable.
- Buyers who want maximum certainty: New hardware or Apple Certified Refurbished stock may justify paying more for clearer support and warranty coverage.
