Cheap web hosting is only cheap if the renewal bill, backup policy, storage limit, and support terms still work for your site. For most new WordPress websites, Hostinger Premium offers the strongest price-to-feature ratio. Bluehost Starter is easier for complete beginners, SiteGround GrowBig is the better small-business upgrade, and DreamPress 1 is the most appealing managed option if included email matters.

This comparison uses current U.S. pricing and plan information checked for August 2026, plus published independent benchmark results. Promotional prices require specific billing terms and are not the same as renewal prices.

Best cheap web hosting services at a glance

Host Best for Advertised introductory price Renewal price Important limitation
Hostinger Premium Best overall value $2.99/month on a 48-month term $10.99/month Weekly backups; staging starts at Business + AI
Bluehost Starter Beginners and simple sites $3.99/month on a 36-month term $9.99/month No phone support on Starter
SiteGround StartUp One small business site $2.99/month for 12 months $17.99/month One site, 10 GB storage
SiteGround GrowBig Growing small businesses $4.99/month $29.99/month Higher renewal cost
DreamPress 1 Managed WordPress plus email $14.99/month for the first year $19.99/month One site, 15 GB storage

Prices can change by country, billing cycle, tax, promotion, and product family. Treat the checkout page—not a comparison table—as the final price.

1. Hostinger: best cheap web hosting overall

Hostinger is the easiest recommendation when the priority is keeping the initial cost low without giving up the basics needed for a real WordPress site. Its Premium plan is currently advertised at $2.99 per month for a 48-month term. That is a four-year prepayment, not a month-to-month rate. The plan renews at $10.99 per month.

TP-Link AX1800 WiFi 6 Router (Archer AX21 V5)
  • DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
  • AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
  • CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
  • EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
  • OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.

Premium supports up to three websites and includes 20 GB of SSD storage, a free domain for the first year, SSL, CDN, weekly backups, and free migration. It also includes WP-CLI, SSH, Git integration, and PHP-version control. Hostinger uses hPanel rather than cPanel.

In WPBeginner’s standardized test, Hostinger recorded a 659 ms largest contentful paint, a 1.1-second full-page load, and a 21 ms response time under load. Those results are useful evidence that the service can be quick, but they are not a guarantee for a site using a heavy theme, unoptimized images, or dozens of plugins.

The catch

Premium’s entry-level backup schedule is weekly, and staging is not included at that tier. Hostinger lists staging on Business + AI and higher plans. If you run WooCommerce, a membership site, or a frequently updated publication, the Business plan’s daily and on-demand backups and staging may justify the higher price.

2. Bluehost: best for first-time website owners

Bluehost is a practical choice if you want the setup process, WordPress installation, domain registration, and site-building tools in one account. Its current managed WordPress Starter plan is listed at $3.99 per month on a 36-month term and renews at $9.99 per month.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Starter includes 10 websites, 10 GB of NVMe storage, SSL, CDN, managed WordPress updates, weekly backups, malware scanning, DDoS protection, a migration tool, and 24/7 chat support. It also includes Bluehost’s AI Builder, which generates three site previews after you answer setup questions. Phone support is not included on Starter but is listed on Business.

Bluehost advertises a 99.99% uptime SLA and a 30-day money-back guarantee. If the plan included a free domain, the refund can be reduced by a non-refundable domain fee.

TP-Link AC1200 WiFi Router Dual Band Wireless Internet Router (Archer A54)
  • Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
  • Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. with four external antennas for stable wireless connections and optimal coverage.
  • Supports IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN to optimize IPTV streaming
  • Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
  • Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks

The catch

Bluehost’s current managed WordPress plans use the names Starter, Business, and eCommerce Essentials. Older articles often recommend Basic, Plus, Choice Plus, or Pro. Those names should not be assumed to describe the current lineup; check the exact product page and term before buying.

3. SiteGround: best cheap host for a growing small business

SiteGround costs more after the introductory period, but it is a stronger choice when support, staging, and site-management tools matter more than the lowest long-term price.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

StartUp costs $2.99 per month for the first 12 months and renews at $17.99 per month. It supports one website and includes 10 GB of storage. GrowBig costs $4.99 initially and renews at $29.99 per month; it adds unlimited websites, 50 GB of storage, staging, on-demand backups, and 30% faster PHP. GoGeek renews at $44.99 per month and adds 100 GB of storage, Git-enabled staging, private DNS, white-label access, and priority support.

All three plans include SSL, CDN, backups, email, managed WordPress updates, free migration, WP-CLI, SSH, and SiteGround’s Speed Optimizer and Security Optimizer plugins. SiteGround uses its own Site Tools control panel rather than cPanel.

The catch

The renewal increase is the main financial risk. SiteGround’s guidance of roughly 10,000 monthly visits on StartUp, 100,000 on GrowBig, and 400,000 or more on GoGeek is not a capacity guarantee. Page complexity, database queries, caching, and traffic spikes matter more than a headline visitor number.

4. DreamHost DreamPress: best managed option with included email

DreamPress is not the cheapest way to host a basic blog, but it is competitively priced for managed WordPress hosting. DreamPress 1 costs $14.99 per month for the first year and renews at $19.99. It includes one site and 15 GB of NVMe storage. DreamPress 2 supports two sites and costs $17.99 initially, renewing at $24.99; DreamPress 3 supports three sites and renews at $28.99.

NETGEAR Nighthawk WiFi 6 Router R6700AX, Up to 1,500 sq ft, 1.8 Gbps
  • NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
  • WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
  • SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
  • READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
  • COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.

The plans include unmetered bandwidth, unlimited mailboxes, daily and on-demand backups, 14-day backup retention, Bunny CDN, a free domain for the first year, professional migration, and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

DreamHost performed well in separate 2026 testing. WPBeginner recorded a 986 ms LCP, 1.5-second full-page load, and 245 ms under load, with 100% uptime during that test period. Review Signal’s 2026 benchmark gave DreamHost a Top Tier rating. These tests used different methods and should not be treated as an SLA for every DreamPress customer.

The catch

DreamPress is not unlimited storage or unlimited websites. The plan documentation sets explicit site and storage limits. It is also more expensive than shared hosting, so its value comes from managed operations, backups, migration, and bundled mailboxes.

5. Kinsta and WP Engine: excellent, but not cheap

Kinsta and WP Engine are worth mentioning because they show what higher-priced managed WordPress hosting buys, but neither belongs on a strict budget shortlist.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Kinsta’s entry-level Single 20GB plan costs $35 per month, or $30 per month when billed annually. It includes one WordPress installation, 10 GB of storage, 20 GB of server bandwidth, 125 GB of CDN bandwidth, unlimited free migrations, a managed WAF with DDoS protection, automatic daily backups, and 14-day backup retention. Its pricing is usage-sensitive, with billing based on bandwidth or visits depending on the selected plan.

WP Engine’s Essential Startup plan starts at $30 per month and includes one site, an estimated 25,000 visits per month, 10 GB of storage, and 75 GB of bandwidth. Staging, daily and on-demand backups, managed updates, CDN, threat defense, and WordPress-specific support are included. The listed visit figures are estimates, not universal hard limits. WP Engine’s updated renewal table lists $35 for Startup, $65 for Professional, $130 for Growth, and $330 for Scale, effective for renewals on or after March 11, 2026.

Choose one of these providers when downtime, deployment workflows, security operations, or support costs more than the hosting bill. For a personal blog or basic brochure site, the extra monthly expense is usually difficult to justify.

How to choose cheap hosting without buying the wrong plan

  1. Calculate the renewal cost. Multiply the advertised monthly price by the required prepaid term, then record the renewal rate. A $2.99 offer can become $10.99, $17.99, or $29.99 per month later.
  2. Count sites and storage. Ten nominal websites are not useful if the plan has only 10 GB of storage and your sites contain large images, backups, or WooCommerce data.
  3. Check backup frequency. Weekly backups may be adequate for a static personal site. A store or active membership site should favor daily or on-demand backups, ideally with a restore point independent of the server.
  4. Confirm staging availability. Hostinger puts staging on Business + AI and above; SiteGround puts it on GrowBig and GoGeek; WP Engine includes one-click staging.
  5. Separate email from hosting. DreamPress explicitly includes unlimited mailboxes. Kinsta and WP Engine’s listed WordPress plans focus on hosting rather than bundled mailbox service.
  6. Check support channels. Bluehost Starter lists chat but not phone support. A low-cost plan may be poor value if you will pay a developer to solve ordinary hosting problems.
  7. Verify technical compatibility. WordPress.org’s current baseline recommends PHP 8.3 or newer, MariaDB 10.11 or newer or MySQL 8.0 or newer, and HTTPS. PHP 7.4 and MySQL 5.5.5 remain technically supported by WordPress but are end-of-life and should not be treated as modern hosting targets.

What “unlimited” and “managed” do not mean

“Unlimited traffic” generally means the host does not publish a simple bandwidth meter for the plan. It does not mean unlimited CPU, RAM, database work, concurrent requests, or protection from resource throttling. SiteGround, for example, combines an unlimited-traffic label with recommended visit levels and separate resource tiers.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“Managed WordPress” also does not eliminate every maintenance task. Hosts may handle core updates, backups, caching, and security layers, but plugin and theme conflicts can still break a site. Before enabling automatic updates, make a backup. For WooCommerce, multilingual, membership, and highly customized sites, test updates on staging first.

How to update WordPress after buying hosting

WordPress 7.0.3 is the latest stable release as of August 9, 2026. WordPress 7.1 is still a release candidate and should not be installed on a production site merely because it appears newer.

  1. Log in to WordPress.
  2. Open Dashboard → Updates.
  3. Review the available core, plugin, and theme updates.
  4. Create or confirm a recent backup.
  5. Click Update Now for the WordPress core update.
  6. Check the front end, forms, checkout, and administrator screens after the update.

Our verdict

Pick Hostinger Premium if you want the lowest sensible starting price and can commit to four years. Pick Bluehost Starter if guided setup and an AI site builder matter more than advanced controls. Pick SiteGround GrowBig if staging and support are worth paying for after the first year. Pick DreamPress 1 if you specifically want managed WordPress hosting with included email.

FAQ

What is the cheapest good web hosting service in 2026?

Hostinger Premium has the lowest headline price among the main recommendations at $2.99 per month on a 48-month term. It renews at $10.99 per month, so compare the prepaid total and future rate rather than looking only at the introductory figure.

TP-Link AC1200 Gigabit Dual Band WiFi Router (Archer A6)
  • Dual band router upgrades to 1200 Mbps high speed internet (300mbps for 2.4GHz plus 900Mbps for 5GHz), reducing buffering and ideal for 4K stream
  • Full Gigabit Ports - Gigabit Router with 4 Gigabit LAN ports, ideal for any internet plan and allow you to directly connect your wired devices
  • Boosted Coverage - Four external antennas equipped with Beamforming technology extend and concentrate the Wi-Fi signals
  • MU-MIMO technology - (5GHz band) allows high speeds for multiple devices simultaneously
  • Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home

Is cheap web hosting safe for a small business?

It can be, provided the plan includes SSL, current PHP and database versions, backups, malware or security tools, and reliable support. A business should also keep an independent backup because host-provided backups are not a complete disaster-recovery strategy.

Is Bluehost or Hostinger better for beginners?

Bluehost is generally easier for a first-time owner who wants a guided setup, domain, WordPress installation, and AI site builder together. Hostinger is usually the better value if price, multiple small sites, and developer access matter more.

Do cheap hosting plans include email?

Not always. DreamPress explicitly includes unlimited mailboxes. Bluehost, Hostinger, and SiteGround list email on the plans covered here, while Kinsta and WP Engine focus on WordPress hosting and do not list bundled mailbox hosting in their comparable plans.

Should I pay for managed WordPress hosting?

Pay for it when you value managed updates, staging, security operations, backups, migration, and WordPress-specific support enough to justify the premium. A simple personal blog usually does not need a $30-to-$35 monthly service when a capable shared plan costs considerably less.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Bottom Line

Best overall value: Hostinger Premium. Best for beginners: Bluehost Starter. Best for a growing business: SiteGround GrowBig. Best managed option with email: DreamPress 1. Compare the renewal price, backup frequency, staging tier, storage, and support channels before checking out; those details matter more than the cheapest number in the advert.
