Amazon and Best Buy reportedly cut the 16-inch MacBook Pro with an M4 Pro chip, 24GB of unified memory, and 512GB of storage from its $2,499 U.S. starting price to $2,199—a nominal saving of $300, or about 12%.
The headline “M4 16-inch MacBook Pro” is technically incomplete: Apple’s 16-inch 2024 lineup began with M4 Pro and M4 Max models. The base M4 chip was available in the 14-inch MacBook Pro.

What the Black Friday deal included
AppleInsider reported the $2,199 price at Amazon and Best Buy on November 21, 2024, during the retailers’ early Black Friday promotions. MacRumors also listed the configuration at $2,199 in its Black Friday coverage and reported that Best Buy matched the price. AppleInsider described it as a record-low price, while MacRumors treated it as an all-time low among the prices it was tracking; those descriptions should be understood as attributed deal coverage rather than a universal lifetime-price guarantee.
The discount was calculated from Apple’s $2,499 U.S. standard starting price, not from an education, refurbished, open-box, or third-party marketplace price. The deal price therefore represented $300 off, approximately 12%.

Apple’s specifications identify the M4 Pro 16-inch model as having 24GB of unified memory and 512GB of base storage. The standard glossy display should not be confused with Apple’s optional nano-texture display, which was a separate upgrade and should not be assumed to have been included in the $2,199 listing.
Apple lists up to 24 hours of video streaming and up to 17 hours of wireless web use for this model. Those are Apple’s test results, not guaranteed real-world battery life. Full specifications are available in Apple’s technical documentation.

The discount applied to a newly released professional notebook rather than an aging model. Apple announced the M4 MacBook Pro family on October 30, 2024, with retail availability beginning November 8. The M4 Pro version combined substantial processing capacity with the larger display, faster Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, and 24GB of shared memory.

The 16.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display was especially valuable for video timelines, photo work, spreadsheets, coding, and multitasking. It offered mini-LED backlighting, up to 1,600 nits of peak HDR brightness, a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, wide P3 color, and adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz.
Thunderbolt 5 made the M4 Pro and M4 Max 14- and 16-inch models more capable with high-speed storage, displays, and docks. However, buyers could still need a dock, adapter, or display cable for a particular desk setup.
Who should have bought it?
At $2,199, the laptop made the most financial sense for someone who expected to use its hardware for demanding work for several years. Suitable buyers included:
- Video editors working with 4K or higher-resolution footage.
- Developers using virtual machines, containers, simulators, and large codebases.
- Photographers and designers who valued a large, color-accurate screen.
- Audio professionals working with sustained projects and multiple peripherals.
- Professionals who wanted a portable primary workstation rather than a lightweight travel laptop.
- Users who needed more than the 16GB memory typically found in lower-priced Macs.
Its 24GB unified memory was a useful middle ground for heavier multitasking. It is shared by the CPU and GPU, though, so it should not be treated as identical to 24GB of separately upgradeable conventional laptop RAM.

Who should have skipped it?
A discount does not automatically make an expensive laptop a good personal-finance decision. Web browsing, email, office work, streaming, and ordinary schoolwork generally do not require a 16-inch M4 Pro MacBook Pro.
A MacBook Air or a 14-inch MacBook Pro could have delivered better value for buyers who prioritized cost, lower weight, or easier travel. The 14-inch M4 Pro MacBook Pro started at $1,999, making it a meaningful alternative for people who did not need the larger screen or higher-capacity battery.
The 512GB SSD was the most important compromise. It could suit office work, applications, and moderate creative projects, but video footage, photo libraries, virtual machines, development environments, and games can consume it quickly. A buyer who needed 1TB or 2TB should compare the full cost of a higher-capacity configuration before treating the $300 saving as a bargain.
M4 Pro versus M4 Max
M4 Max was not automatically the better purchase. The extra cost was easier to justify for frequent GPU-heavy work, complex 3D workloads, professional video projects that could use additional media engines, or large local AI and compute workloads.

For general professional work, software development, photo editing, most video editing, and heavy multitasking, M4 Pro was likely the more sensible balance of capability and cost. The Black Friday configuration offered high-end performance without requiring buyers to pay M4 Max prices.

Retailers sometimes shortened product names to “M4 MacBook Pro,” which could refer to several different machines. A buyer reconstructing the 2024 deal should have checked all of the following:
- Screen size: 16.2 inches.
- Chip: M4 Pro, not base M4 or M4 Max.
- Memory: 24GB unified memory.
- Storage: 512GB SSD.
- Year: 2024 model.
- Seller: Apple, Amazon or Best Buy directly, or another reputable authorized channel.
Price, color, and inventory could vary by SKU. Some promotions may have shown the final price only at checkout or applied only to selected stock. The available reporting confirms the deal at Amazon and Best Buy, but it does not establish that every color or listing had identical terms. It also does not establish a Best Buy membership requirement.

How the deal compared with Apple’s own promotion
Apple’s 2024 holiday shopping event generally used Apple Gift Cards rather than direct price cuts. MacRumors reported that the newly released MacBook Pro models were not included in the U.S. gift-card promotion, which made Amazon and Best Buy the more relevant sources for this particular $2,199 discount.
Apple’s education price for the 16-inch model was $2,299, but eligibility restrictions applied. That price should not be mixed with the $2,499 standard retail price when calculating the claimed $300 saving.
Historical timeline
- October 30, 2024: Apple announced the M4 MacBook Pro family.
- November 8, 2024: Retail availability began.
- November 21, 2024: Amazon and Best Buy were reported at $2,199 for the 16-inch M4 Pro configuration.
- November 29, 2024: Black Friday took place in the United States.
- November 30, 2024: MacRumors still included the $2,199 price in its Black Friday roundup.
Verdict
The 16-inch M4 Pro MacBook Pro was a legitimate $300 Black Friday 2024 discount. At $2,199, it was compelling for professionals who needed a large display, sustained performance, 24GB of memory, and extensive connectivity. It was not automatically the best MacBook deal for everyone: a 14-inch MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, refurbished unit, or higher-storage configuration could have been the more rational purchase depending on workload and budget.
Because Black Friday 2024 is over, the $2,199 figure should be treated solely as a historical price. For a current purchase, compare the exact chip, memory, storage, condition, seller, warranty, return policy, and total price at Apple, Amazon, and Best Buy.
