GeekWire’s April 14, 2025 “Tech Moves” roundup covered leadership changes at T-Mobile, Plug and Play, Mozilla.ai, Technology Alliance, Cuore Collective, Carbon Direct, and Wizards of the Coast. The changes below are historical announcements reported at that time—not current August 2026 employment updates.

The roundup is part of GeekWire’s Tech Moves series, which tracks notable personnel changes across the Pacific Northwest technology community.

T-Mobile promotes Daniel Drobac to chief accounting officer

Daniel Drobac was promoted to chief accounting officer at T-Mobile, effective May 1, 2025, according to a regulatory filing cited by GeekWire.

Dara Bazzano, T-Mobile’s outgoing principal accounting officer, was retiring but was expected to remain in that role through April 30, 2025, creating a defined transition period. Drobac had been T-Mobile’s vice president of accounting and controller since August 2017.

#1 Best Overall

Before joining T-Mobile, Drobac served as a practice fellow at the Financial Accounting Standards Board from 2015 to 2017. He previously held leadership positions at PwC from 2000 to 2015.

This is an accounting leadership succession, not a change in T-Mobile’s chief financial officer position. At a public company, the chief accounting officer or principal accounting officer typically has responsibility for important financial-reporting, accounting-policy, and control processes. That makes continuity in the role relevant to investors and corporate-governance readers, even when the appointment does not change the company’s broader executive leadership.

Plug and Play names leaders for its Seattle operation

Plug and Play appointed Jack Callaghan as director of Plug and Play Seattle and Emmanuel Chan as program manager.

Callaghan previously served as senior vice president of digital technology at Enterprise Ireland and worked as a management consultant at Microsoft. Chan spent more than three years as a program manager at Amazon and previously worked at Snap.

The appointments were connected to Plug and Play’s plans for two annual accelerator programs in the Seattle region. One was planned at the University of Washington in partnership with CoMotion. Another was planned for Everett, Washington, in a building operated by SNBL, a Japanese contract research organization focused on drug development and medical technology.

Plug and Play also operates corporate innovation programs and an in-house venture-capital fund. The announcement therefore represented more than two hires: it pointed to a planned expansion of the organization’s regional startup and corporate-innovation footprint. The source described the accelerator programs as plans; it did not establish that both had already launched or disclose later cohort results.

John Dickerson becomes CEO of Mozilla.ai

John Dickerson became CEO of Mozilla.ai, described by GeekWire as a division launched the previous year to build an open-source artificial-intelligence ecosystem.

Dickerson previously co-founded Arthur and served as the company’s chief scientist. He also spent more than eight years as an adjunct and associate professor of computer science at the University of Maryland.

In a LinkedIn post cited by GeekWire, Dickerson described Mozilla.ai as a “well-funded team of around 20” and said it intended to grow. Those figures and the growth plan were his characterization and should not be treated as an independently verified headcount or formal company forecast.

Nick Nelson leaves Technology Alliance

Nick Nelson was leaving his position as program manager for entrepreneurial climate efforts at Technology Alliance after more than two years.

Nelson said on LinkedIn that he was moving into another corporate-venture-capital-related role, but the employer was not identified in the roundup. His previous experience included approximately six and a half years at Polaris.

Because the next organization was not disclosed, the announcement established Nelson’s career direction but not his next title or employer.

Cuore Collective launches with Amazon communications veterans

Kelly Cheeseman and Pia Arthur launched Cuore Collective, with Cheeseman serving as co-founder and managing partner. The new agency was positioned around communications and business strategy.

Cheeseman spent more than a decade in communications and public-relations roles at Amazon. She later served for a year as Flexport’s vice president and chief of staff and left Amazon in 2022. Arthur was also an Amazon communications veteran, with more than 12 years at the company.

The available report provided limited detail about Cuore Collective’s client base and specific services, so the launch should not be described more narrowly as only a public-relations firm.

Rory Jacobson joins Carbon Direct as head of policy

Rory Jacobson was appointed head of policy at Carbon Direct, a Seattle-based consulting and investment firm focused on helping companies address their carbon footprints. GeekWire identified Microsoft among the companies associated with Carbon Direct’s work.

Jacobson previously directed the Carbon Dioxide Removal program at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management. That background aligns with Carbon Direct’s focus on carbon-removal policy and climate-related business strategy.

The appointment does not, by itself, establish a change in federal policy or document specific emissions reductions by Carbon Direct’s clients.

Two long-serving Dungeons & Dragons leaders depart Wizards of the Coast

Chris Perkins, Wizards of the Coast’s creative director for Dungeons & Dragons, was retiring after almost 30 years with the Renton-based company.

Jeremy Crawford, director of the D&D design team, was leaving after more than 18 years. GeekWire reported that both had been involved in leading design work on a revised Fifth Edition and new core rulebooks, with that product-development context attributed to secondary reporting from ScreenRant.

The announcements were not identical: Perkins was described as retiring, while Crawford was described as leaving. The report did not establish that they departed for the same reason, were laid off, or that the moves reflected a broader change in Wizards of the Coast’s creative strategy.

What this April 2025 roundup shows

The personnel changes spanned several distinct parts of the Pacific Northwest technology economy:

  • Public-company governance: T-Mobile planned a chief-accounting-officer succession with a short overlap period.
  • Startup infrastructure: Plug and Play was building leadership capacity around planned Seattle-area accelerator programs.
  • Open-source AI: Mozilla.ai appointed a technology entrepreneur and researcher to lead its early-stage effort.
  • Climate and venture capital: Technology Alliance, Carbon Direct, and Nelson’s next undisclosed role reflected continued movement around climate entrepreneurship and corporate investment.
  • Creative leadership: Wizards of the Coast announced the retirement and departure of two long-serving D&D leaders.

All details reflect the information reported on April 14, 2025. The source material does not establish where these individuals were working in 2026 or whether the planned Plug and Play programs subsequently launched.
