Yes—but only in the bill-credit sense. As of August 18, 2026, T-Mobile is advertising the standard 256GB iPhone 17 for $0 after 24 monthly bill credits for qualifying customers who switch, port in an eligible number, open a new voice line, meet credit requirements, and select an eligible plan. You still pay for service, taxes on the phone’s full pre-credit price, and T-Mobile’s $35 device connection charge.

How the “free” iPhone works
T-Mobile does not hand over a phone with no financing paperwork. Instead, you buy the iPhone through a 24-month equipment installment plan. T-Mobile then applies a recurring promotional credit that is intended to offset the monthly device payment.
- The phone is financed at its regular device price.
- A promotional credit posts to your T-Mobile bill each month.
- After all required credits post, the device payments can total $0 net.
- Your wireless service, taxes, fees and optional services remain payable.
Credits may take up to two billing cycles to appear. A missing credit on the first bill does not automatically mean the promotion failed, but keep the order confirmation and installment agreement. Contact T-Mobile if the credit has not appeared after the stated window.

Which iPhone 17 is covered?
The no-trade-in wording is for the standard iPhone 17. It should not be read as a blanket offer for the iPhone 17 Pro, Pro Max, iPhone Air, every storage tier or every other Apple model.
T-Mobile’s broader advertising may say “up to $1,100” in credits. That is a maximum associated with broader promotional language, not a guaranteed value for every standard iPhone 17 purchase. Confirm the exact model, storage capacity, installment amount and credit amount in your cart.
Who can qualify?
New customers switching to T-Mobile
The primary route generally requires you to:
- Switch from an eligible carrier and port in your existing number;
- Open a qualifying new voice line;
- Choose a qualifying plan, currently including Experience Beyond in the advertised pathway;
- Pass T-Mobile’s credit requirements; and
- Keep the account and promotional line eligible for 24 months.
T-Mobile’s eligible-carrier list can vary by promotion and date. Current promotional pages identify AT&T, Verizon and other carriers, but do not assume that every carrier qualifies for every offer. Check the specific list attached to the promotion.
Better Value customers
T-Mobile’s current offer language identifies a separate Better Value pathway. It lists new members with at least three new lines and two eligible port-ins, while existing members generally need at least three lines and five years of tenure on a T-Mobile postpaid plan. These are separate qualifications, not interchangeable examples of the standard switcher deal.

Existing T-Mobile customers
Current customers may qualify, but usually through a different transaction. T-Mobile identifies Experience More and Experience Beyond customers as eligible for certain iPhone 17 trade-in offers. Existing Go5G Plus and Go5G Next customers also appear in current promotional language, subject to the detailed terms. Some pathways require one new line and one eligible port-in.
Do not change to a more expensive plan until you calculate the total cost. A larger device credit can be outweighed by higher monthly service charges.
What you pay upfront
Budget for more than $0:
- Device taxes: T-Mobile says taxes are calculated on the phone’s full pre-credit price, not necessarily its $0 net price.
- Device connection charge: The current offer identifies a $35 charge.
- Down payment: Your credit qualification or selected device may require one.
- Service costs: The first month’s plan, taxes, regulatory fees and optional add-ons still apply.
- Old-carrier costs: You may still owe your former carrier or need to pay off its device before transferring service.
One current offer description cites a qualifying new voice line priced at $85 or more per month with AutoPay, plus taxes and fees. Better Value is described as three lines for $140 or more with AutoPay, plus taxes and fees. Treat those figures as current promotional signals, not permanent prices; verify the plan displayed for your account.

- Open T-Mobile’s iPhone 17 purchase page.
- Select the standard iPhone 17 and the desired color and storage.
- Choose the switch-to-T-Mobile or required new-line option.
- Confirm that the selected plan is explicitly marked eligible.
- Enter your current carrier and port-in information.
- Verify that your number is transferable and that you have the required account details or transfer PIN.
- Review the equipment installment agreement and promotional credit schedule.
- Confirm that the promotion appears in the cart or final order summary.
- Pay the required taxes, connection charge and any down payment.
- Save screenshots, the order confirmation, the installment agreement and the promotion terms.
- Check your first two bills for the recurring device credit.
The checkout screen is the practical eligibility test. A general landing-page promise is not enough if your credit class, port-in, plan, account history or device configuration does not qualify.

What happens if you cancel or pay off the phone?
Canceling the account before all 24 credits post can stop the credits and make the remaining device balance due. T-Mobile gives the example of the remaining balance on an iPhone 17 priced at approximately $829.99, but your balance depends on the exact model, storage, credits already received, taxes and transaction details.
Paying off the device early is also not automatically beneficial. T-Mobile states that promotional credits end if you pay off the device early. In other words, this is not a normal interest-free installment plan where early payoff simply eliminates future payments while preserving every discount.
Changing a line, suspending service, changing plans or upgrading the device can have different consequences depending on the promotion. Contact T-Mobile before making any of those changes and ask specifically whether the remaining credits will continue.

Not for the main qualifying switcher offer. That is different from other iPhone 17 promotions. Existing-customer upgrades, higher-value Pro offers and some other transactions may require an eligible trade-in.

For a trade-in promotion, confirm the plan and eligible model first. Photograph the phone’s condition and serial number, back up and erase it, disable Find My iPhone and Activation Lock, and keep the shipping tracking and acceptance receipt. T-Mobile’s trade-in terms say promotional credits depend on meeting the device requirements and the receipt deadline; mailed trade-ins may take up to three billing cycles to appear.
Is the deal actually a good value?
Compare the full two-year cost, not just the device price:
24-month cost = plan cost × 24 + taxes and fees + device charges + required lines − promotional credits − the value of any alternative offer.

It is less attractive if you would upgrade your plan only for the phone, expect to leave early, want to pay off the device immediately, or would otherwise keep a cheaper plan.
For comparison, Apple’s cited direct-purchase page lists the iPhone 17 at $799 for the specified configuration, with carrier-promotion pricing subject to activation requirements. Buying directly from Apple may be preferable if carrier flexibility and ownership simplicity matter more than maximum promotional savings.
Common ways the promotion fails
- Port-in failure: The number, transfer PIN or old-carrier account details are incorrect.
- Wrong plan: A similar-sounding plan is excluded from this particular promotion.
- Wrong transaction: Adding a line, upgrading and switching carriers trigger different offers.
- Credit delay: Credits can take up to two billing cycles.
- Line cancellation or suspension: The promotional line generally must remain active and in good standing.
- Recent T-Mobile cancellation: Customers who canceled lines within the previous 90 days may need to reactivate them for some promotions.
- Device mismatch: The credit may apply only to the exact model or storage tier purchased.
- Offer stacking: The promotion may not combine with other discounts or account benefits.
- Account type: Consumer postpaid terms do not automatically apply to business, prepaid, Metro or other T-Mobile categories.
- Device limit: The listed offer currently references a maximum of four discounted devices per account, although other promotions may differ.
Before you submit the order
- Confirm the exact iPhone 17 model and storage tier.
- Confirm the eligible plan and its full 24-month cost.
- Confirm that your carrier and phone number qualify for port-in.
- Confirm the new-line requirement.
- Confirm the credit amount and number of months.
- Confirm taxes, the $35 connection charge and any down payment.
- Read the cancellation, line-change and early-payoff terms.
- Make sure the promotion appears in the final order summary.
- Save every confirmation and check the first two bills.
