Synopsys has rallied repeatedly in 2026, yet each surge has struggled to stay elevated. 24/7 Wall St., in an October 6, 2026 article, described three distinct peaks on the year’s chart followed by reversals. That observation captures a pattern in the share price, not a proven cause. The more useful question is whether Synopsys can turn a rapidly expanding post-Ansys business, major technology partnerships and new financial targets into results that last beyond the next headline.
What pattern has emerged in Synopsys shares?
The pattern identified by 24/7 Wall St. is a sequence of three apparent 2026 peaks, with the stock failing to remain at each high for long. The October 6, 2026 account did not establish precise dates for every peak, and the evidence does not prove why any rally faded. Investors should therefore treat “rally, peak, pullback” as a description of market behavior rather than a causal finding.

That distinction matters because Synopsys’ operating profile changed materially during the same period. The company completed its Ansys acquisition on July 17, 2025, so reported results now combine its legacy electronic-design-automation business with a large simulation and analysis operation. A chart that appears to show fading enthusiasm may be reacting to expectations, integration questions, guidance, or broader market sentiment; those disclosures cannot isolate one trigger.
Ansys changed the scale investors are measuring
Synopsys said the Ansys transaction was intended to combine electronic design automation with Ansys simulation and analysis capabilities. Its 2026 SEC filing put the consideration at approximately $34.9 billion, consisting of cash, Synopsys stock and assumed equity awards. That price and structure make integration a central part of the investment story, not a footnote to quarterly growth.
#1 Best Overall
The clearest indication of the changed revenue base came in fiscal third-quarter 2026 results. Synopsys reported $2.477 billion in quarterly revenue, including $711 million from Ansys, according to the earnings-call transcript. By simple division, Ansys represented about 29% of that quarter’s reported revenue. That is a calculation from the disclosed figures, not a company-designated measure of organic growth.
| Question | What is established | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| How much revenue did Synopsys report in fiscal Q3 2026? | $2.477 billion | This is the combined company’s reported quarterly revenue. |
| How much came from Ansys? | $711 million | The figure shows a substantial acquired contribution inside the headline total. |
| What was the acquisition consideration? | Approximately $34.9 billion | The SEC filing describes the transaction value, not a quarterly expense or revenue figure. |
| What remains unresolved? | No like-for-like organic growth rate was provided in the cited fiscal Q3 2026 disclosures. | Reported growth should not automatically be read as legacy Synopsys growth. |
For investors, the practical issue is separating three things: growth generated by the pre-acquisition Synopsys businesses, revenue added by Ansys, and any future cross-selling or product integration. Until the company supplies enough comparable disclosures to separate those effects, a strong consolidated percentage can overstate how quickly the original business is expanding.
The renewed catalyst stack: Amazon, OpenAI and AI-driven demand
Amazon custom-silicon agreement
On September 30, 2026, Synopsys announced a multi-year agreement with Amazon valued at more than $1 billion. The announcement covers application-optimized silicon intellectual-property products and collaboration across electronic design automation, simulation, AI-powered engineering and AWS services.

The announcement does not establish the timing of customer purchases, the accounting pattern for the value, margins or how much of the work will be incremental to Synopsys’ existing business. A durable share-price response would require evidence that the relationship is converting into booked revenue and cash generation over time.
OpenAI collaboration
Synopsys and OpenAI also announced a multi-year partnership on September 30 to develop GPT-Synopsys for semiconductor-design workflows. The companies mentioned revenue sharing and joint marketing, but did not disclose detailed economics or customer-adoption figures.

OpenAI President and co-founder Greg Brockman said: “With Synopsys, we’re bringing that work to chip design, helping engineers explore more designs and get to a working chip faster.” The statement explains the partners’ rationale; it is not an independently measured productivity result or proof that customers are already using the product at scale.
Why management links AI to demand
Synopsys CEO Sassine Ghazi said, “AI is scaling semiconductor demand, architectural diversity and complexity of chips and the systems they power – driving demand across our portfolio.” That argument is strategically coherent: more complex chips can require more design, verification and simulation tools. It still describes a market thesis. Investors need subsequent bookings, revenue and profitability evidence to determine how much of that demand reaches Synopsys’ financial statements.
Targets and capital returns are forward-looking, not completed outcomes
At Investor Day, Synopsys projected approximately 15% revenue growth in fiscal 2027, reaching a midpoint of $11.15 billion. Management also said it intended to repurchase approximately $1 billion in shares over the coming months, subject to market conditions. Both statements are outlooks or plans; neither is a result that has already occurred.
On October 5, Synopsys announced that it had initiated a separate $1 billion accelerated share repurchase agreement. The dated transaction followed the Investor Day statement of intent and should be tracked as a capital-return action, not as evidence that the fiscal 2027 revenue target has been achieved.
| Item | Status | What would confirm progress |
|---|---|---|
| Fiscal 2027 revenue midpoint of $11.15 billion | Management projection | Future quarterly revenue and updated guidance. |
| Approximately 15% fiscal 2027 growth | Management expectation | Reported growth measured against the relevant fiscal-year base. |
| Approximately $1 billion of near-term repurchases | Investor Day plan, subject to market conditions | Company disclosures showing purchases and remaining authorization. |
| $1 billion accelerated share repurchase announced October 5 | Initiated transaction | Later filings describing settlement, share delivery and final effects. |
Repurchases can reduce share count, but the effect on per-share results depends on the price paid, timing and the company’s overall earnings and cash-flow performance. An announced buyback should not be treated as a substitute for operating growth.

How to separate organic growth from acquisition-driven growth
The most important analytical adjustment is to avoid treating every dollar of consolidated growth as evidence that the legacy Synopsys engine accelerated by the same amount. Ansys’ $711 million contribution to fiscal Q3 2026 revenue demonstrates the scale of the acquired business inside the reported total.
- Start with reported revenue: use the $2.477 billion fiscal Q3 2026 figure as the combined-company baseline.
- Identify acquired contribution: the earnings-call transcript separately cited $711 million from Ansys.
- Look for comparable disclosures: seek management commentary that distinguishes legacy operations, acquisition effects and currency or timing changes.
- Test quality of growth: compare revenue with operating profit, cash generation and integration costs when those figures are disclosed.
This approach prevents a common error: using the larger post-acquisition revenue base to infer that every underlying product line is growing at the same pace.
Announced opportunity versus realized revenue
The Amazon and OpenAI announcements increase the range of possible future outcomes, but they sit at different points from booked sales. Amazon disclosed an agreement valued at more than $1 billion; the release did not say that amount had been recognized as revenue. OpenAI described a multi-year collaboration with revenue sharing and joint marketing; it did not provide economics or adoption data.
| Development | What is known | What is not established |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon agreement | Multi-year, more-than-$1-billion announced value; silicon IP and joint work across EDA, simulation, AI engineering and AWS services. | Revenue-recognition timing, margin, annual run rate and customer uptake. |
| OpenAI partnership | Multi-year GPT-Synopsys development, revenue sharing and joint marketing were announced. | Detailed economics, production deployment and measurable customer adoption. |
| Fiscal 2027 outlook | Approximately 15% growth to a $11.15 billion midpoint. | Whether the target will be met and how much will come from organic operations, Ansys or new agreements. |
Keeping those categories separate helps explain why a stock can react strongly to a headline and later retreat when investors demand evidence of conversion. That is a framework for reading the news, not proof that it explains any particular 2026 price move.
Why a strong business can still show repeated peaks
Several mechanisms could produce the pattern described by 24/7 Wall St., but none is established as the definitive cause here.

Expectations can outrun delivery
Large transactions, partnership announcements and ambitious targets can raise expectations faster than quarterly results can demonstrate revenue or profit. If subsequent disclosures are merely in line with the new expectations, the share price can lose momentum even while the business remains healthy.
Integration creates a moving baseline
The Ansys acquisition adds scale and strategic capability, but also makes comparisons more complex. Investors may wait for evidence that the two portfolios are being integrated effectively, that customers are buying combined offerings and that costs remain controlled.
Partnership value arrives over time
Multi-year agreements rarely translate into a single quarter’s revenue. Timing of product delivery, customer deployment and accounting recognition can differ from the date of the announcement, leaving a gap between an exciting headline and reported results.
Capital-return signals do not eliminate operating risk
The accelerated repurchase may support per-share metrics, but it does not resolve questions about demand, integration or execution. A buyback can coexist with a volatile share price.

What to monitor in the next filings and calls
- Ansys contribution and comparability: check whether Synopsys gives clearer information on acquired versus legacy growth and explains any changes in the contribution.
- Integration evidence: look for concrete customer wins, combined product adoption, cost progress and execution updates rather than broad synergy language alone.
- Amazon conversion: track revenue recognized under the agreement, delivery milestones and whether management changes its outlook because of the relationship.
- GPT-Synopsys commercialization: watch for product availability, named deployments, revenue disclosures or other measurable adoption indicators.
- Guidance versus actuals: compare each fiscal-year update with the $11.15 billion midpoint and approximately 15% growth projection, noting any change in assumptions.
- Repurchase completion: read filings for shares purchased, settlement terms and the effect on diluted share count after the October 5 accelerated agreement.
- Operating performance: evaluate revenue alongside profitability and cash flow so that headline sales growth is not viewed in isolation.
Key dates in the current Synopsys story
| Date | Event | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| July 17, 2025 | Synopsys completed the Ansys acquisition. | Reported results thereafter reflect a materially larger combined business. |
| Fiscal Q3 2026 | Revenue was $2.477 billion, including $711 million from Ansys. | Shows the acquired business’s scale within a quarterly headline. |
| September 30, 2026 | Synopsys announced the more-than-$1-billion Amazon agreement and the OpenAI partnership. | Added two major future-opportunity narratives, neither with disclosed realized revenue. |
| October 5, 2026 | Synopsys initiated a $1 billion accelerated share repurchase. | Turned part of the capital-return plan into a stated transaction. |
| October 6, 2026 | 24/7 Wall St. described three 2026 share-price peaks followed by reversals. | Frames the market pattern that investors are trying to interpret. |
What the pattern does—and does not—tell an investor
The repeated peaks do not by themselves show that Synopsys is overvalued, that its strategy is failing or that a particular catalyst caused a selloff. A price chart records the market’s changing expectations; it does not reveal whether those expectations were rational or which news item changed them.
What the pattern does signal is a need for confirmation. Synopsys is asking investors to assess a post-acquisition revenue base, execute a complex integration, convert strategic partnerships into commercial activity and meet a substantial fiscal 2027 target. Each item can be evaluated as disclosures arrive. None should be assumed from an announcement alone.
For personal-finance readers, the disciplined response is to keep operating facts, management forecasts and market reactions in separate columns. The company’s reported figures and filings describe what has happened; the Amazon and OpenAI announcements describe potential; the Investor Day numbers describe management’s expectations; and the 2026 chart pattern describes investor behavior as characterized by 24/7 Wall St. Mixing those categories is how a compelling narrative turns into an unsupported conclusion.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBottom line
Synopsys is “hot again” because the company has a larger platform after acquiring Ansys and has added high-profile Amazon and OpenAI initiatives. The pattern that has emerged, according to 24/7 Wall St., is that rallies have repeatedly formed peaks and then faded. The next test is not another headline: it is whether Ansys integration, partnership activity, fiscal 2027 execution and capital returns show up in verifiable financial results.
