For most Indian households that can pass Jio’s address check, JioAirFiber is the easier service to evaluate today: Jio publishes plan examples, an installation charge and a local feasibility process. Starlink may be more useful where terrestrial or mobile broadband is unavailable, but the official material available for India does not establish a current consumer order path, plan price, hardware price or installation fee for your address. A licence is a regulatory milestone, not proof that every home can subscribe.
This comparison separates confirmed Indian information from details you must verify at checkout, then shows how to choose without mistaking an advertised maximum speed for a guaranteed household result.

What each service is
JioAirFiber/JioHome
JioAirFiber, also presented in Jio material as JioHome powered by AirFiber, is fixed-wireless broadband delivered over Jio’s True 5G network. Instead of a fibre cable running all the way to the home, an outdoor customer unit communicates with the local 5G network and connects to indoor networking equipment. Jio requires an address-level feasibility check before it confirms an installation; a citywide service claim is not a guarantee for an individual building.

Starlink is satellite broadband. A customer terminal communicates with satellites rather than a terrestrial 5G site or fibre access network. India has granted Starlink GMPCS (satellite communications) licence authorisation, but that regulatory approval alone does not show that consumer orders are live at every Indian address. Reliance Jio has announced a plan to offer Starlink services and equipment through Jio retail outlets and online storefronts, subject to regulatory authorisation. The announcement is a distribution plan, not a published nationwide retail tariff.

Quick comparison
| Factor | Starlink | JioAirFiber/JioHome |
|---|---|---|
| Access network | Satellite broadband; Indian consumer ordering remains dependent on address and rollout status in the available official evidence. | Fixed wireless over Jio True 5G. |
| Published India speed evidence | No current official India consumer tier was established. | Up to 1 Gbps, depending on the selected plan. |
| Published India price evidence | No current official Indian consumer quote, hardware price or installation fee was established. | Delhi NCR examples of ₹399, ₹699, ₹999 and ₹1,499 per month, all plus GST; the page groups JioFiber and JioAirFiber, so confirm the technology and address quote. |
| Installation | Indian procedure and fee are not established in the available official material. | ₹1,000 for the installation service, waived when an annual plan is selected. |
| Coverage test | Licence and rollout status do not guarantee that a particular address can order. | Enter the service location and wait for a local feasibility confirmation. |
| Best first question | “Can I order Starlink at this exact address, and what is the complete first-year cost?” | “Is AirFiber feasible here, and which plan, taxes and installation terms apply?” |
Price: what an Indian customer can verify
Jio’s published examples
Jio’s Delhi NCR page lists these monthly examples, each stated as plus GST:
- ₹399 for unlimited 30 Mbps.
- ₹699 for unlimited 100 Mbps.
- ₹999 for unlimited 150 Mbps.
- ₹1,499 for unlimited 300 Mbps.
These are regional examples rather than a national AirFiber tariff. The page groups JioFiber and JioAirFiber, so the displayed amount does not by itself prove which access technology will be installed at your home. Use the address checkout to confirm the exact plan, technology, taxes, equipment terms, promotional period and cancellation conditions.
Installation and annual-plan arithmetic
Jio’s installation FAQ says: “This installation service is chargeable at ₹1,000 but will be waived off in case you opt for an annual plan.” Treat that as a separate line item from the recurring subscription. Before paying, record:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- the monthly fee and GST;
- the installation charge or annual-plan waiver;
- any hardware, security deposit or refundable amount;
- the length and total price of an annual commitment;
- the end date of any promotion; and
- cancellation, relocation and refund rules.
An annual plan can remove the ₹1,000 installation fee, but the waiver is not the same as a free year of service. Compare the total annual commitment with twelve monthly payments and include GST in both figures.
Starlink’s unresolved Indian price
The official Indian material available for this comparison does not establish a current Starlink consumer monthly plan, hardware price, taxes or installation labour fee. Do not convert a foreign Starlink price, an online leak or an unofficial listing into an Indian quote. If an address-level ordering flow becomes available, capture the displayed service plan, one-time kit charge, tax, shipping, mounting and installation options, and any recurring equipment or regional surcharge before comparing it with Jio.

Speed and everyday performance
What Jio’s “up to 1 Gbps” means
Jio says JioHome powered by AirFiber provides speeds up to 1 Gbps, with the selected plan determining the available tier. “Up to” is a maximum advertised capability, not a measured result for every home. The Delhi NCR examples top out at 300 Mbps, which illustrates why the plan shown for your address matters more than the headline maximum.
Jio’s FAQ says up to 120 devices can connect and that speed is shared according to the number of connected devices. A household running video meetings, cloud backups, cameras and 4K streams at the same time can therefore experience a different result from a single wired speed test.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Why Starlink cannot be declared faster from this evidence
No independent Starlink-versus-JioAirFiber test is established here, and no current Indian Starlink consumer tier is published in the available official sources. It is therefore not accurate to declare Starlink faster or Jio faster for India as a whole. Actual throughput and latency depend on radio conditions, local network or satellite congestion, Wi-Fi placement, client-device capability and the policies of the selected plan.
Latency and stability questions to ask
For gaming, voice calls, remote desktops and financial-market terminals, latency and consistency can matter more than a peak download number. Ask each provider what service-level information applies to your plan, then test at busy evening hours after installation. A result over Wi-Fi measures your router and the room as well as the access network; repeat the test over Ethernet when possible. Keep separate records for download, upload, latency and packet loss instead of judging the connection by download speed alone.
Coverage and address eligibility
Checking JioAirFiber
- Open Jio’s broadband booking flow and enter the complete service location, including building and locality details.
- Let the system perform its feasibility check rather than relying on a neighbour’s installation or a city-level advertisement.
- Confirm that the quote says JioAirFiber/JioHome rather than JioFiber if the wireless technology is important to your decision.
- Ask when installation can occur; Jio says timing depends on local feasibility and rollout readiness.
- Save the plan name, speed, GST-inclusive total, installation charge and annual-plan terms shown for that address.
A positive feasibility result is the practical coverage evidence for your home. A “not feasible” result can reflect local rollout, network capacity, building access or line-of-sight conditions; it is not a judgement about the service’s national capability.

Checking Starlink
Starlink’s Indian regulatory status must be separated from retail availability. The Government of India has authorised Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited for GMPCS service after examining its applications. That authorisation permits operation under the licence framework, but it does not establish that every address can place a consumer order today.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsUse only a live, address-level Starlink ordering flow or an explicitly authorised Indian sales channel when one is available. Verify that the checkout accepts your Indian address, identifies the legal service provider, states taxes and shows a delivery and activation process. Reliance Jio’s announced retail and online distribution arrangement is subject to regulatory authorisation; an announcement alone is not proof that a particular store has stock or can activate your account.
Installation, equipment and the physical site
JioAirFiber installation
Jio’s installation FAQ specifies an outdoor unit on a terrace, rooftop or outside the home. The service is priced at ₹1,000 and waived when an annual plan is selected. Jio plan information also refers to a JioHome Gateway/router and optional set-top-box equipment. Confirm whether the quoted price includes cabling, drilling, brackets, power supplies and indoor placement, especially in an apartment or rented property.
- Obtain building-society or landlord permission before a technician arrives.
- Check that the proposed outdoor location is safe, accessible for maintenance and has a suitable route for the cable indoors.
- Ask whether extra cable length, difficult access or a non-standard mount costs more.
- Photograph the installed equipment and record serial numbers for future support.
Starlink installation
Reliance Jio’s announcement supports a planned route for Starlink hardware distribution through Jio retail outlets and online storefronts, but it does not specify the current Indian kit contents, mounting rules, installation labour price or whether a particular marketplace seller is authorised. Do not assume that a generic satellite dish, cable, power supply or roof mount is compatible.
Before accepting a Starlink quote, confirm the exact kit SKU, what is included in the box, power requirements, cable length, weatherproofing, mounting hardware, warranty, replacement process and who performs installation. If professional mounting is optional, obtain its price separately from the recurring service charge.

Which service fits different locations?
Urban apartment with strong 5G coverage
Start with Jio’s feasibility check. If the building permits an outdoor unit and the quoted plan meets your usage, Jio offers the clearer documented price and installation path. Compare the GST-inclusive total and annual commitment, not just the monthly headline.
Village or remote property
Do not assume either brand is available because a nearby town appears on a coverage map. Jio still needs a location-level feasibility result, while Starlink requires a live Indian order path and a suitable installation site. In a remote location, ask specifically about delivery, technician travel, power reliability and support response time.
Household with many devices
Jio states that up to 120 devices can connect, with capacity shared among them. Count active devices, not just people: phones, televisions, cameras, smart speakers, work laptops and backup systems all consume airtime. Check upload needs if the household sends large files or uses cloud cameras.
Renter or apartment resident
Both options may require landlord or society approval for outdoor equipment. Get written permission and clarify who is responsible for removing the unit when you move. A service that is technically available can still be impractical if the building will not permit rooftop or exterior installation.
A decision process that avoids expensive surprises
- Define the requirement. List the number of users, peak simultaneous streams, work-call needs, upload workload, gaming sensitivity and acceptable downtime.
- Run both address checks. Treat an actual orderable result as evidence; treat a licence, map or announcement as background information.
- Build a first-year cost sheet. Include twelve months of subscription, GST, installation, hardware, shipping, deposits, mounting and any annual commitment.
- Verify the physical installation. Confirm outdoor space, power, cable route, permissions and maintenance access before paying.
- Read the exit terms. Record cancellation fees, equipment returns, relocation rules, refund timing and what happens after a promotional period.
- Test after activation. Measure wired and Wi-Fi performance at several times of day, including the busiest evening period, and retain the results for support.
Common comparison mistakes
Treating “up to” as guaranteed speed
A maximum tier describes the plan’s ceiling. It does not guarantee that every device, room or time of day will receive that rate.
Best Value
- It can be a gift option
- Comes with secure packaging
- Helpful in various ways
Comparing a Jio regional example with an unknown Starlink quote
Jio’s ₹399–₹1,499 Delhi NCR examples include GST as an additional charge and may represent either JioFiber or JioAirFiber. Starlink’s Indian consumer price is unresolved in the available official evidence. Wait for address-specific totals before calculating a winner.
Assuming a licence equals nationwide availability
GMPCS authorisation is important for regulatory permission, but retail orderability, rollout, stock and installation are separate questions.
Ignoring installation constraints
An outdoor unit, rooftop access, building permission and cable route can determine whether a technically available service is usable. Include those constraints in the decision before comparing speed.
What to verify immediately before ordering
- Whether Starlink accepts your exact Indian address through an official consumer checkout.
- Starlink’s current monthly plan, hardware, tax, shipping, installation and mounting charges.
- Whether a seller or retail outlet is authorised and which legal entity will provide support.
- Jio’s exact technology at your address, because the Delhi NCR page groups JioFiber and JioAirFiber.
- Jio’s GST-inclusive recurring total, annual-plan commitment and ₹1,000 installation waiver eligibility.
- Equipment ownership, warranty, return and relocation terms for either service.
- Expected installation date and any building-access requirements.
Bottom line: which is better?
Choose JioAirFiber first when it passes your address check and its quoted plan, installation terms and building requirements fit your budget. It has the more transparent Indian evidence in this comparison: a documented True 5G access network, published speed ceiling, regional price examples and a stated installation charge with an annual-plan waiver.
Keep Starlink as a potential alternative for an address that lacks practical terrestrial or 5G broadband, but make the decision only after an official Indian order flow shows serviceability and the complete first-year price. India’s GMPCS authorisation and Jio’s planned distribution arrangement do not, by themselves, answer those consumer questions.
