A pending stablecoin transfer has not finished; it is usually waiting for network confirmations or processing by a wallet, exchange, or bridge. A failed transfer did not complete and must be diagnosed before you try again. Start with the transaction hash in the correct block explorer, confirm whether confirmations are increasing, then check the network, recipient, token balance, and native gas balance. A confirmed transfer sent to the wrong address or network is generally irreversible.
Pending and failed mean different things
Wallet and exchange interfaces often use “pending” and “failed” as if they were interchangeable error messages. They are not. The status determines whether waiting is sensible, whether a new transaction is required, and whether funds have actually moved.

Circle distinguishes a delayed bridge transfer from a failed one: a delayed transfer has started and is still processing, while a failed transfer did not complete and no USDC moved to the destination network. Its support guidance says, “Your funds are not lost. Most delayed transactions will complete automatically.” That is a reason to monitor a genuine delay, not a guarantee that every pending transaction will resolve.
The transaction hash is your first diagnostic
The app’s status label is only a summary. The transaction hash (also called a transaction ID or TXID) is the identifier that lets you see what the blockchain recorded. If you cannot find a hash, the transaction may not have been broadcast at all, or the service may be using an internal transfer process that does not immediately expose a public transaction.

- Copy the hash exactly. Use the transaction-details screen in your wallet, exchange withdrawal page, or bridge receipt. Do not copy the recipient address instead.
- Choose the correct explorer. Open an explorer for the chain that was supposed to send the tokens. A hash from one network will not produce useful results in an explorer for another network.
- Check whether the transaction exists. “Not found” can mean a broadcast or provider problem, a wrong network selection, or a newly submitted transaction that has not propagated yet.
- Read the status and confirmation count. Increasing confirmations indicate that the source chain is processing the transaction. A static count or a rejected/failed result calls for a different diagnosis.
- Compare the on-chain details with your intention. Check the sender, recipient, token contract or asset, amount, source network, and destination information shown by the service.
- Record the environment before changing anything. Save the hash, wallet or exchange name, network, time submitted, exact error text, and screenshots. These details are needed if support must investigate.
Never paste a seed phrase, private key, password, or one-time security code into a support form or chat. A transaction hash is public information; your signing credentials are not.
Why a stablecoin transfer stays pending
Confirmations are slow or the network is congested
A transfer can remain pending while the source chain or the destination service waits for enough confirmations. High transaction volume, a sudden gas-price spike, or congestion on the destination chain can lengthen that wait. Some interfaces also keep a transfer pending while their own node catches up with the chain.
Watch the explorer rather than repeatedly pressing “send.” If confirmations are increasing, leave the original transaction alone and check again later. Coinbase’s troubleshooting guidance says to wait at least 30 minutes, noting that most transactions complete within that period. That is a support guideline, not a universal deadline: confirmation times vary by chain, fee conditions, and the service handling the transfer.

A browser wallet can lose its internet connection, a mobile app can stop refreshing, or a blockchain provider can temporarily become unavailable. The app may continue to display “pending” even though the chain has already accepted or rejected the transaction.
- Refresh the transaction-details page and reconnect the wallet.
- Check the hash directly in the correct explorer instead of relying on the app’s cached status.
- Do not sign a second transaction until you know whether the first one is visible on-chain.
- If the hash is absent and the provider reports an outage, wait for service to return and submit a new transaction only after confirming that no earlier transaction was broadcast.
The account is spending an unconfirmed balance
Some systems temporarily mark received tokens as pending and prevent you from spending them until the incoming transaction has enough confirmations. Coinbase lists pending-asset spending among possible reasons for a pending transaction. The remedy is to wait for the incoming transfer to settle; sending another transaction will not make those tokens spendable sooner.

A fee or double-spend condition is holding it up
Low fees can leave a transaction waiting in the network’s queue. Coinbase also lists rejected transactions, network synchronization problems, and double-spending checks as causes of a pending status. A replacement transaction may be possible in some self-custody wallets, but replacing or accelerating a transaction is chain- and wallet-specific. Do not attempt it unless the wallet clearly identifies the original transaction as replaceable and shows the replacement fee and nonce.
Bridge processing is still underway
Bridges often have two stages: a transaction on the source chain and a release or minting step on the destination chain. The source transaction may be confirmed while the bridge’s relayer, attestation service, or destination transaction is still processing. Check both the source and destination status pages when the bridge supplies them. A source confirmation does not by itself prove that the destination wallet has been credited.
What to do when confirmations are increasing
Increasing confirmations are the clearest sign that a pending transfer is progressing. Use this sequence:
- Leave the original transfer untouched; do not resend the same amount to the same address.
- Note the latest confirmation count and the time of your check.
- Verify that the recipient address and network shown in the explorer match your intended destination.
- Allow the service’s stated processing window to pass. If no window is stated, use the 30-minute waiting guidance as a practical checkpoint rather than a promise.
- If the source transaction is confirmed but the receiving service still shows no credit, contact that service with the hash, asset, network, amount, account identifier, and the time submitted.
If confirmations stop increasing, the explorer changes the transaction to failed or dropped, or the hash never appears, move to the failed or not-broadcast diagnosis instead of waiting indefinitely.
Why a stablecoin transfer fails
A failed transaction is not a delayed transaction. The attempted operation did not complete, so the correct remedy is to identify the precise failure and create a fresh transaction after fixing it. Repeating the same attempt without changing the underlying condition can produce another failure.

Insufficient native gas balance
Stablecoins are tokens, but the blockchain’s native asset usually pays the transaction fee. For example, a USDC transfer on an Ethereum-compatible network requires enough native ETH on that network for gas; holding USDC alone may not be sufficient. Circle’s failure references include INSUFFICIENT_GAS_BALANCE.

A deposit of native ETH on another network does not pay fees on the network where the transfer is failing. Leave a margin above the displayed estimate because fees can change before the transaction is mined.
Insufficient token balance
The wallet must hold enough of the token to cover the amount being sent, and sometimes enough additional balance for a service’s minimum or fee deduction. Circle lists INSUFFICIENT_TOKEN_BALANCE as a failure condition. Confirm the spendable balance, not merely a portfolio value, and check whether another pending transaction has already reserved part of it.
Gas price or gas-limit problems
A transaction can be rejected when its fee is too low for current conditions or can run out of computation when the gas limit is inadequate. Circle documents GAS_PRICE_TOO_LOW and OUT_OF_GAS.

OUT_OF_GAS, use the wallet or bridge’s recommended gas limit rather than blindly repeating the old limit. - Do not assume that raising the gas limit fixes an unrelated balance, contract, or network error.
Nonce errors
On account-based chains, each outgoing transaction uses a sequence number called a nonce. Circle identifies NONCE_TOO_LOW as a failure code. It can occur when a wallet submits an old nonce, when another transaction has already used it, or when the wallet’s local view is out of sync with the chain.

Refresh the wallet’s account data and use the latest nonce supplied by the network. If the wallet offers a “reset account” or nonce-management function, understand that resetting local history does not erase a blockchain transaction; it only refreshes the wallet’s view. When in doubt, obtain the current nonce from the explorer or the wallet provider before submitting a new transfer.
Expired transactions and block hashes
Some networks and services require a transaction to be submitted before a validity window closes. Circle lists SOL_BLOCKHASH_EXPIRED, SIGNED_TRANSACTION_EXPIRED, and TRANSACTION_EXPIRED. An expired transaction cannot be revived by waiting. Initiate a new transaction so the wallet or service can obtain current validity data and sign it again.
Simulation or on-chain execution failure
Bridges and smart-contract wallets may simulate a transaction before broadcasting it. A simulation failure means the service predicted that execution would revert; an on-chain execution failure means the transaction was submitted but the contract rejected it. Read the exact error, correct the underlying condition, and submit a new transaction. If the same operation fails repeatedly with no clear fix, stop retrying and escalate with the hash or simulation ID, network, wallet address, amount, and full error text.
Network rejection or service interruption
A wallet, exchange, or bridge can reject a request when its node is unavailable, the selected network is temporarily disabled, or account verification is incomplete. Reconnect, complete any requested account checks, and confirm that deposits and withdrawals are enabled for that asset and network. If the service is experiencing an outage, wait until it reports recovery before creating a new transaction.

Wrong address, network, or token: the irreversible cases
Before confirming any transfer, compare the first and last characters of the recipient address, the complete address when possible, the destination blockchain, and the exact token. Also confirm that the receiving wallet or exchange supports that token on that network. A familiar-looking address does not prove that the network is correct.

Once a blockchain transaction is confirmed, it cannot be canceled, reversed, or edited. Circle states that a confirmed transfer sent to the wrong address or network may be impossible to recover. Coinbase likewise warns that it cannot recover funds sent on the wrong network. Contacting support is still worthwhile when an exchange or bridge controls the receiving account, but recovery depends on the operator’s technical ability and policy; do not assume that a refund will be issued.
If you discover a mistake while the transaction is still unsigned or genuinely unbroadcast, cancel the wallet request and correct the details. If the hash is confirmed, do not send another “recovery” payment to a stranger or share your private key with anyone claiming to be able to retrieve the funds.
Exchange custody and self-custody require different checks

An exchange may show an internal “pending” state before it broadcasts anything. In that case there may be no public hash yet, and only the exchange can explain the hold. Conversely, once an exchange supplies a confirmed source-chain hash, the receiving service—not the sending wallet—usually controls the final credit.

When and how to contact support
Escalate after the relevant diagnosis, not instead of it. Include:
- Transaction hash, or a statement that no hash was provided.
- Asset and amount, including whether it was USDC or another stablecoin.
- Source and destination networks.
- Sending and receiving addresses, with private information removed.
- Submission time with time zone.
- Exact status, confirmation count, and complete error code or message.
- Whether the transfer was from an exchange, self-custody wallet, or bridge.
- Screenshots showing the transaction details, while hiding passwords, seed phrases, and security codes.
Ask the service a specific question: whether the transaction was broadcast, whether the hash is confirmed on the required network, whether the destination network is supported, or whether an account review is blocking credit. This prevents a generic “please wait” response when the chain already shows a definitive result.
A practical decision flow

Preventing the next failed or lost transfer
- Send a small test amount when using a new address, network, bridge, or exchange.
- Confirm the destination network in both the sending and receiving interfaces; “USDC” alone does not identify a chain.
- Keep enough native currency for fees after reserving the stablecoin amount you intend to send.
- Review the complete address and any required memo or tag before signing.
- Use the wallet’s current fee, gas-limit, and nonce values rather than reusing an old signed transaction.
- Save the hash and receipt until the receiving account shows the credit.
- Check network support and confirmation requirements before initiating an exchange deposit or withdrawal.
- Never share private keys or recovery phrases with support, and treat unsolicited recovery offers as a scam risk.
Bottom line
Pending means the transfer is unfinished; failed means the attempt did not complete. The hash and the correct block explorer tell you which situation you actually have. Increasing confirmations call for patience, a failure code calls for a targeted correction and a new transaction, and a confirmed transfer sent to the wrong address or network generally cannot be reversed. When a source transaction is confirmed but the receiving service has not credited it, escalate with the hash and full network details rather than sending again.
