Spain’s National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) warned that FXNobels, operating through fxnobels.io, was not authorised to provide specified investment services in Spain. The broker claimed to offer forex, CFDs, stocks and cryptocurrencies.
The relevant direct CNMV warning is dated 25 February 2019. A separate CNMV entry dated 23 January 2019 relayed an earlier warning from Malta’s Financial Services Authority (MFSA). That distinction matters because online summaries often describe 23 January as the date of the CNMV’s own warning.
What the CNMV warning says
In its 25 February 2019 notice, the CNMV said that the FXNobels website was not authorised to provide the investment services covered by Article 140 of Spain’s Securities Market Law. It also said the entity lacked authorisation for the specified ancillary services under Article 141, concerning financial instruments covered by Article 2, including foreign-currency transactions.
The notice cited the second paragraph of Article 17 of the Securities Market Law, referring to the consolidated text approved by Royal Legislative Decree 4/2015 of 23 October. That is the legal basis stated in the 2019 notice; it should not be presented as a claim that the wording of those provisions has remained unchanged.

In practical terms, the warning meant that investors should not treat FXNobels as a regulated Spanish investment firm simply because its website offered familiar products such as currency trading, contracts for difference or cryptocurrency exposure.
The warning chronology
| Date | Record | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 17 January 2019 | MFSA warning | Malta’s regulator said FXNobels was neither a Maltese-registered company nor licensed or authorised by the MFSA. |
| 23 January 2019 | CNMV international-supervisor entry | The CNMV published FXNOBELS and fxnobels.io in a list of warnings received from international supervisors, identifying the MFSA as the reporting regulator. |
| 25 February 2019 | Specific CNMV warning | The CNMV separately stated that FXNobels was not authorised to provide the listed investment and ancillary services. |
Therefore, the statement “the CNMV warned FXNobels on 23 January 2019” is incomplete. That date refers to the CNMV’s publication of the MFSA-originated alert. The specific CNMV warning is dated 25 February 2019.
What Malta’s regulator found
The MFSA said FXNobels claimed to operate from a Maltese address, but the authority confirmed that this was not the case. It also said FXNobels was not a Maltese registered company and did not hold MFSA authorisation.
More seriously, the MFSA wrote that information available to it suggested the website was “likely to be a scheme of dubious nature with a high risk of loss of money.” The authority advised the public not to conduct business or transactions with the entity. You can read the MFSA warning directly.

This supports describing FXNobels as unauthorised and high-risk according to the regulator. It does not, by itself, prove a criminal conviction, establish a court finding of fraud or show that every customer lost money. Neither regulator’s notice gives a total for customer losses.

How to check the warning in the CNMV database
The CNMV’s current English-language route is:
Home → Warnings (unauthorised firms and other entities) → Search Engine for Warned Companies
On the search page, investors can use the following controls:
- Select the initial letter of the entity’s name.
- Enter the full name, or part of it, in the entity-name field.
- Choose a date range using “Date from” and “Date to” if needed.
- Use “Search by type of warning” and select “Unauthorised,” “Other warnings” or “All.”
- Use “Search foreign regulator” and the “Regulator” field when looking for alerts originating with an overseas supervisor.
The CNMV English search engine provides these labels. The Spanish interface uses terms including Buscador de entidades advertidas, Por nombre, Desde, Hasta, No autorizadas and Otras advertencias.
What a CNMV warning means for investors
The CNMV says dealing with unauthorised entities carries a high risk of losing capital because those firms operate outside the controls established by financial supervisors. An alert is therefore an important due-diligence result, but it is not the same thing as a court judgment.
The regulator distinguishes between several types of database entry:
Rank #3
- Unauthorised entities, sometimes called boiler rooms: firms or individuals that may be providing investment services or other CNMV-supervised activities without the required authorisation.
- Other entities: businesses with no CNMV authorisation or registration that may be raising funds or providing a financial service. Inclusion in this category is not automatically a formal finding that the activity breaches current regulations.
- Foreign-supervisor warnings: alerts issued by overseas regulators and made searchable through the CNMV database.
FXNobels is significant because the records include both an MFSA warning relayed by the CNMV and a separate, direct CNMV warning.
If you were contacted by FXNobels
Do not send additional money to “unlock” a withdrawal, pay a tax requested by the platform or hand over remote access to your computer. Those demands can expose you to further losses and identity theft.
- Stop communicating through the broker’s original sales channels and preserve emails, messages, account statements, wallet addresses, payment receipts and screenshots.
- Contact your bank, card issuer or payment provider immediately and ask what recall, chargeback or fraud-reporting options are available. The outcome depends on the payment method and how long ago the transaction occurred.
- If you paid by bank transfer or cryptocurrency, report the transaction promptly even though recovery is more difficult and never guaranteed.
- Change passwords reused on the trading website, enable two-factor authentication and check your bank and card accounts for unauthorised activity.
- Report the matter to the relevant authorities in your country. Be cautious of recovery agents who demand an upfront fee or claim they can recover funds because they have access to regulator databases.
What the records do not establish
The available warnings do not establish that FXNobels was licensed in Malta; the MFSA said the opposite. They also do not establish that the CNMV declared the operator a criminal scam, that a court convicted anyone of fraud or that all customers lost money.
They do establish a more limited but important point: as of the 2019 warnings, FXNobels was not authorised by the relevant authorities to provide the investment services identified in the notices. The fact that the CNMV database can still be accessed today does not turn the 2019 warning into a 2026 enforcement action.

No. The MFSA said FXNobels was neither a Maltese-registered company nor licensed or authorised by the MFSA. It also said the purported Maltese address was not the firm’s actual operating location.

When did the CNMV warn about FXNobels?
The specific CNMV warning is dated 25 February 2019. On 23 January 2019, the CNMV published an MFSA-originated warning in its international-supervisor alerts, which is why the dates are sometimes confused.
Does the warning prove that FXNobels committed fraud?
No. The regulators’ notices identify a lack of authorisation and, in the MFSA’s case, describe a high risk of loss and a dubious nature. They do not constitute a criminal conviction or a court finding of fraud.
Can investors recover money from FXNobels?
Recovery is not guaranteed. Contact your bank, card issuer or payment provider immediately, preserve evidence and report suspected fraud to the appropriate authorities. Avoid anyone requesting an upfront fee to recover your funds.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: FXNobels was the subject of a January 2019 MFSA warning, a 23 January CNMV relay of that foreign warning and a separate direct CNMV warning dated 25 February 2019. The regulators said it was unauthorised, and the MFSA warned of a high risk of loss. Anyone approached by the broker should not deposit more money and should contact their payment provider and the relevant authorities promptly.
