How the shop got from opening delays to later operations
May 2024: opening after delays
Bravo reported that Something About Her opened in West Hollywood in May 2024 after construction and permitting challenges. Its opening coverage also described staffing changes. Those obstacles help explain the long lead-up to opening; they are not evidence that the shop later closed. Madix said the partners had gone through detailed planning before securing a location, and that she and Maloney had long shared a vision for the business.
March and May 2026: operational update and anniversary
By March 2026, Maloney was discussing online orders, preparation routines, catering work, and limited sandwich runs. In May, Bravo reported the shop’s second anniversary and the partners’ public thanks to staff and customers. What happened with the former chef’s lawsuit?
Us Weekly reported on October 10, 2025, that former chef Penny Davidi had informed the court she was dismissing all claims in her lawsuit against Madix and Maloney, subject to conditions that the report said were not publicly detailed. A trial had been scheduled for March 2026. The reported dismissal is procedural information; it should not be recast as a court ruling that resolved the disputed allegations.

How that case differs from Rachel Leviss’s case
Rachel Leviss’s case against Madix is separate from the restaurant and the former chef’s dispute. In August 2026, the California Court of Appeal affirmed the denial of Madix’s anti-SLAPP motion. The opinion addressed that threshold motion, not the truth of the allegations or the ultimate merits of Leviss’s claims. It does not identify Something About Her as a party to the case.
