Shopify pricing plans at a glance
Shopify’s standard online-store plans are Basic, Grow, and Advanced. Shopify renamed the former Shopify plan to Grow on April 7, 2025.
| Plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing* | Staff accounts | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $39/month | $29/month equivalent | No additional staff accounts | One-person businesses and new online stores |
| Grow | $105/month | $79/month equivalent | Up to 5 | Small teams and growing stores |
| Advanced | $399/month | $299/month equivalent | Up to 15 | Higher-volume or international businesses |
| Shopify Plus | $2,500/month on a one-year term; $2,300/month on a three-year term | Term-based | Unlimited | Complex, high-volume companies |
*Annual prices are monthly equivalents. Shopify charges the full annual amount upfront rather than charging the displayed amount each month.

With annual billing, the standard subscription totals are:
- Basic: $348 upfront instead of $468 over 12 monthly payments—a $120 annual saving.
- Grow: $948 upfront instead of $1,260—a $312 annual saving.
- Advanced: $3,588 upfront instead of $4,788—a $1,200 annual saving.
Annual billing only makes financial sense if you expect to keep the store active long enough to use the prepaid term. Shopify subscription charges are generally non-refundable.
Basic: the practical starting point for a solo seller
Basic costs $39 per month, or $29 per month equivalent when billed annually. It includes a full online store, unlimited products, hosting, free SSL, a custom-domain option, Shopify Payments, and selling through social and marketplace channels.
The main limitation is user access: Basic does not include additional staff accounts. That matters if a partner, employee, freelancer, or fulfillment worker needs their own Shopify login. Sharing the owner login creates security and accountability problems, while upgrading to Grow adds a substantial subscription cost.
Basic also supports up to 10 inventory locations. That is usually enough for a small brand with one warehouse, a home stockroom, and a few retail or fulfillment locations.
Basic payment rates
For US online sales using Shopify Payments, Shopify lists a standard card rate starting at 2.9% + 30¢ per transaction. If you use a third-party payment provider instead, Shopify lists a 2% third-party transaction fee, in addition to the provider’s own processing fee.
Basic is usually the sensible choice when you are validating a product, operating alone, or generating too little sales volume for lower payment rates to offset a more expensive plan.
Grow: paying for team access and better reporting
Grow costs $105 per month, or $79 per month equivalent with annual billing. It includes the Basic features plus:

- A complete countertop point of sale — Combine dual responsive touchscreens, built-in POS software, and durable hardware for a fast, reliable checkout experience.
- Serve customers faster — Run smoothly through busy shifts, complex menus, and big orders with high-speed processing, memory, and responsive touchscreen displays.
- Accept every way they pay — Take all major cards at one simple rate, with no hidden fees or long-term contracts. Receive funds as soon as the next business day.
- Handle real-world demands — Resist everyday spills, dust, and wear with a durable, IP54-rated design.
- Stay reliable through every rush — Maintain strong connectivity and consistent performance through your busiest hours.
- Up to five staff accounts.
- Advanced reporting.
- Lower published Shopify Payments card rates.
- Higher shipping discounts.
Shopify’s current US pricing page lists Grow’s online standard card rate starting at 2.7% + 30¢. The fixed 30¢ portion remains the same, so the saving compared with Basic comes from the 0.2-percentage-point reduction.
On subscription price alone, Grow costs $66 more each month than Basic. Ignoring differences in shipping discounts and reporting value, the payment-rate saving covers that gap at about $33,000 in monthly card sales:
$66 ÷ 0.002 = $33,000
That is a rough break-even point, not a guarantee. Your actual result depends on refunds, payment mix, international transactions, card types, and whether you would otherwise pay for reporting software. A store doing $20,000 monthly sales may still choose Grow because it needs staff accounts; a solo store doing $40,000 may stay on Basic if its workflow does not require the extra features.
Advanced: lower rates, carrier-calculated shipping, and international tools
Advanced costs $399 per month, or $299 per month equivalent when billed annually. It includes everything in Grow, plus:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Up to 15 staff accounts.
- Live third-party carrier-calculated shipping rates.
- More comprehensive and custom reporting.
- Expanded international pricing, duties, and market tools.
The published US online standard card rate starts at 2.5% + 30¢. Compared with Grow, the rate difference is another 0.2 percentage points, while the monthly subscription difference is $294. The payment-rate break-even calculation is therefore approximately:
$294 ÷ 0.002 = $147,000 in monthly card sales
That calculation does not mean Advanced is worthwhile only above $147,000 in sales. Live carrier rates can prevent undercharging or overcharging for delivery, and advanced international features may be operationally necessary at a much lower revenue level. Conversely, a domestic store with simple shipping may not recover the extra subscription cost from payment savings alone.
Shopify Plus: enterprise pricing and infrastructure
Shopify Plus is designed for complex, high-volume operations rather than a typical small business. Shopify lists US pricing of:
- $2,500 per month on a one-year term.
- $2,300 per month on a three-year term.
Plus supports unlimited staff accounts, up to 200 locations, up to 50 markets, nine expansion stores, unlimited staging stores, and additional B2B and checkout capabilities. Shopify describes Plus payment rates as its most competitive rates, but the exact pricing is contract- and account-specific.

Enterprise buyers should request a complete quote that covers subscription, payment processing, implementation, apps, integrations, and contract commitments.
Starter and Agentic are not substitutes for a normal Shopify store
Shopify Starter
Starter is intended for selling through social media and messaging apps with product links and a simplified online store. It is available only to new merchants and merchants still in the free-trial period.
Starter does not support additional staff accounts, product collections, third-party calculated shipping rates, or POS Pro. It is limited to the Spotlight theme and its available customization options. It can work for a creator selling a small number of products through social channels, but it is not the low-cost version of a full Shopify storefront.
Shopify Agentic
Agentic is a separate $0-per-month option for merchants that want to add products to Shopify Catalog and sell through Shopify’s AI channels without moving their existing ecommerce platform.

Its current US pricing page lists online card rates starting at 2.9% + 30¢. Agentic should be evaluated as a sales-channel option, not as a replacement for Basic, Grow, or Advanced when you need Shopify to host and operate the primary store.
POS Pro adds a separate retail cost
Shopify POS can support in-person sales, but POS Pro costs $89 per month per location in the US. It adds features including unlimited staff roles and permissions, in-store inventory management, pickup, and flexible delivery.
For example, two retail locations using POS Pro add $178 per month before payment processing, hardware, taxes, and any other apps. Include that charge when comparing Shopify with a dedicated retail system. Shopify Plus has separate location-related terms, including the included POS Pro arrangements described above.
The payment fees behind the advertised subscription price
For US merchants using Shopify Payments, the published online standard card rates are:

| Plan | Online standard card rate | Third-party payment-provider transaction fee |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | 2.9% + 30¢ | 2% |
| Grow | 2.7% + 30¢ | 1% |
| Advanced | 2.5% + 30¢ | 0.6% |
| Plus | Contract-specific | Contract-specific |
Shopify Payments removes Shopify’s third-party payment-provider transaction fee on orders processed through Shopify Payments. It does not eliminate card-processing fees. You may also encounter currency-conversion or international-rate charges, depending on the transaction.
If you use an outside payment provider, add three costs separately:
- The provider’s own processing charge.
- Shopify’s applicable third-party transaction fee.
- Your Shopify subscription.
For a rough illustration, a $100 Basic-plan order processed with Shopify Payments at 2.9% + 30¢ would generate $3.20 in card-processing fees before other applicable charges. The same order at Grow’s published rate would cost $3.00, and at Advanced’s rate $2.80. The 30¢ fixed fee applies in each example.
Other charges that can raise the total cost
The monthly plan is only one line on a Shopify bill. Budget for:
- Apps: subscriptions and usage fees may be billed separately from Shopify’s normal 30-day billing cycle.
- Domain: a custom domain may cost extra if purchased through Shopify or another registrar.
- Themes: premium themes and design services are separate purchases.
- Shipping labels: label charges are not included in the plan price.
- Shopify Tax: tax-related transaction fees can apply after the relevant threshold.
- POS Pro: $89 per month for each standard POS Pro location.
- Payment processing: card fees apply even when Shopify Payments is enabled.
For eligible US sales, Shopify Tax currently charges 0.35% on Basic, Grow, and Advanced after the applicable threshold, capped at $0.99 per order. For stores created on or after May 13, 2026, Shopify uses a lifetime-sales threshold; for stores created before that date, the threshold is generally based on annual sales. The current eligible US threshold is $100,000. Check your store’s Shopify Tax settings because the treatment can depend on location and eligibility.
How to choose a plan without overpaying
- Start with required features, not revenue. If you need multiple logins, live carrier rates, or international pricing tools, those requirements may decide the plan before payment-rate math does.
- Estimate monthly card sales. Compare your expected processing-rate savings with the higher subscription price. Use net sales and realistic order volume rather than an optimistic launch forecast.
- Count users and locations. Basic has no additional staff accounts and supports 10 inventory locations. Grow supports five staff accounts; Advanced supports 15.
- List every app and retail charge. A $39 plan can become much more expensive after adding subscriptions for reviews, email, subscriptions, shipping, analytics, and POS.
- Choose monthly billing while testing demand. Annual billing lowers the effective price but requires payment upfront and generally does not create a refund right if you close early.
- Review the actual checkout offer. Shopify’s current US pricing page displays “Try 3 days free, then $1/month for 3 months.” Eligibility, trial length, promotional pricing, and available plans can vary, so the offer shown during signup controls.

Plan changes do not all take effect in the same way:
- Upgrading during a free trial does not shorten the trial or trigger an immediate plan charge.
- Downgrading a prepaid plan generally takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle.
- Changing the billing cycle can produce an immediate bill for the current plan and start a new billing cycle.
- Changing tiers without changing the billing cycle adjusts billing according to the current billing period.
- During a promotion, switching tiers can create a prorated invoice at the promotional rate. The promotional end date does not reset.
- A discontinued plan cannot be restored after you switch away from it or pause the store.
Trial and cancellation details to check
The free trial begins when the Shopify account is created, not when store setup starts. If you do not select a paid plan before the trial ends, Shopify pauses or freezes the store while preserving its products, settings, and data.

App charges can accrue during the trial and appear on a later invoice. Pausing or deactivating Shopify also does not automatically cancel app subscriptions, so review each app separately.
Shopify does not automatically extend or reset free trials or promotional pricing. Before cancelling, check Settings > Plan, your next billing date, and the app subscriptions connected to the store.
FAQ
What is the cheapest Shopify plan?
Starter is the lowest-cost option for eligible new merchants and free-trial users who sell through product links and social or messaging channels. For a full Shopify online store, Basic costs $39 per month, or $29 per month equivalent with annual billing.
Is Shopify annual billing cheaper than monthly billing?
Yes, based on the current US prices. Basic saves $120 over 12 months, Grow saves $312, and Advanced saves $1,200. However, Shopify charges the full annual amount upfront, and subscription charges are generally non-refundable.
Recommended Free Tools
Which Shopify plan is best for a small business?
Basic is usually suitable for a solo owner with one primary store and up to 10 inventory locations. Grow is more appropriate when you need up to five staff accounts, advanced reporting, or lower published Shopify Payments rates. The right choice depends on required features as well as sales volume.
Does Shopify Payments remove all transaction fees?
No. Shopify Payments removes Shopify’s third-party payment-provider transaction fee, but card-processing fees still apply. App, shipping-label, domain, theme, tax, currency-conversion, and POS Pro charges may also be separate.
The Bottom Line
Basic at $39 per month is the default choice for a solo seller running a full online store. Choose Grow at $105 when separate staff logins or advanced reporting matter, and consider Advanced at $399 when live carrier rates, international tools, or custom reporting justify the cost. Shopify Plus is an enterprise contract, not a routine upgrade. Compare the subscription with payment fees, apps, POS locations, taxes, and annual prepayment before deciding.
