The most urgent updates concern WebSocket addresses, TLS support, mandatory pre-trade disclaimers, crypto-FX asset types and endpoint removals.
Saxo’s release-note index currently lists Release 2025/05/15 as its latest dated API release. Additional 2025–2026 changes appear under the portal’s Planned Changes and Completed Planned Changes sections. Developers should check those notices rather than relying only on the dated release list.
The changes most likely to break an application

WebSocket streaming now uses new domains
Saxo’s current WebSocket addresses are:

The change applies to both the connection and reauthorization operations. HTTP requests used to create, update or delete subscriptions were not moved.
The former live address, streaming.saxobank.com/openapi/streamingws, was deprecated on or after December 6, 2025. The old simulation address, streaming.saxobank.com/sim/openapi/streamingws, is also marked deprecated. An application that still uses either address may fail when it first connects or when it attempts to reauthorize.

WebSocket problems that may look unrelated
Saxo identifies several connection failure modes:
- A new WebSocket with no subscription may be closed periodically. Create a subscription within one minute of connecting.
- Do not reuse a
ContextIdunless reconnecting to an existing WebSocket. - Connection or reauthorization requests that were previously accepted may be rejected by the new architecture.
- Unexpected headers or query parameters can prevent a connection.
- Authentication errors can be mistaken for a domain-migration problem.
Test the change in Simulation first. If you contact Saxo about a failed connection, include the application name or key, connection context, status code, and all request and response headers.
Legacy TLS cipher suites are no longer accepted
From March 2026, Saxo stopped accepting these cipher suites:

TLS-AES-128-GCM-SHA256This failure occurs during TLS negotiation, before an HTTP request reaches Saxo. If your program reports a certificate, handshake or connection error without an HTTP status code, inspect its runtime, operating system and TLS configuration before changing API request logic.

Saxo removed the Tag query parameter from:
DELETE /root/v1/subscriptions/{ContextId}Sending Tag now returns HTTP 400. Systems that used tags to delete groups of subscriptions must keep track of the supported subscription identifiers and delete subscriptions through those identifiers instead.

There is no longer a DisplayHint for these instruments. Applications should accept both FxSpot and FxCrypto while accounts and environments complete the transition. Saxo’s migration guidance was to continue sending FxSpot until returned data had moved to FxCrypto, then use FxCrypto in requests where appropriate.
Mandatory pre-trade disclaimers can reject an order
OpenAPI applications must handle outstanding pre-trade disclaimers. The requirement became mandatory in May 2025. An order can be rejected even when the price, quantity and available margin are otherwise valid.
Disclaimers may relate to instrument suitability, exchange requirements or updated market-conduct rules. Saxo describes three main types:
- Blocking: shown to the user but cannot be accepted, so trading remains blocked.
- Normal: usually accepted once, unless its content changes.
- Recurring: must be accepted before every order.
Acceptance may involve a button, a checkbox or specific text entered by the user. A disclaimer can also be added for a user who previously had none.
Required disclaimer flow
- Call
POST /trade/v2/orders/precheck. - Inspect the response for
PreTradeDisclaimers. - Read
DisclaimerContextandDisclaimerTokens. - Call
GET /dm/v2/disclaimers?DisclaimerTokens={DisclaimerTokens}to retrieve the details. - Display the required text and collect the user’s response.
- Register the response with
POST /dm/v2/disclaimers. - Submit the order only after the disclaimer requirements have been satisfied.
When no disclaimer is required, PreTradeDisclaimers is not returned. If an order is rejected because a disclaimer remains outstanding, the error response from POST /trade/v2/orders can include the same information. Code that checks only margin and price results is therefore incomplete.

Onboarding now requires a business category

Applications should fetch current choices dynamically from cm/v2/signups/options. The response includes the properties NatureOfBusinessWithCategory and NatureOfBusinessCategory. A business-type option may include ParentPropertyName and ValuePairs.ParentKey, which connect the selected business type to its parent category.
Send the selected business type’s Key, not its display text. Saxo’s documentation uses 2002 as an illustrative example for “Domestic Internet & Telecom Providers”, but says example values must not be hard-coded. Enforcement began December 1, 2025, although another Saxo change notice labels the broader update “January 2026.” The practical requirement is the same: use the v2 options endpoint and include the new field.

Portfolio account fields removed
These fields were removed from GET /port/v1/accounts and GET /port/v1/accounts/{AccountKey}:

- Retrieve fees with
GET /ca/v2/proxyvoting/events/{JobNumber}/fees?AccountKey={AccountKey}. - Display the returned fee information and disclaimer.
- Accept it with
POST /ca/v2/proxyvoting/events/{JobNumber}/fees/actions/accept. - Only then obtain the external voting action URL.
The v1 endpoint was scheduled for removal after May 31, 2026. The v2 migration is more than a URL change because it confirms that proxy-voting fees were shown and accepted.

Current-user endpoint migration
Saxo has replaced GET /root/v1/user with GET /root/v2/user. The v2 endpoint requires the Personal: Read permission and returns information such as ClientId, UserId and operation lists.
The Simulation reference URL is:
GET https://gateway.saxobank.com/sim/openapi/root/v2/userSaxo’s planned-change notice gives September 1, 2026 as the v1 removal date. Applications still using v1 should migrate before then.
SignalR streaming is not supported
The legacy SignalR-based streaming implementation has been removed. Applications must use WebSocket streaming. Saxo also says that the latest OpenAPI for Excel add-in is required because older add-in versions may be affected.

Practical migration checklist
- Change Simulation and live WebSocket domains.
- Update both connection and authorization requests.
- Create a subscription within one minute of opening a new WebSocket.
- Do not reuse
ContextIdunnecessarily. - Remove the
Tagparameter from subscription deletion. - Confirm that the client supports Saxo’s GCM-based TLS suites.
- Handle both
FxSpotandFxCryptofor the six listed crypto-FX UICs. - Remove dependencies on the two obsolete portfolio account fields.
- Implement the full pre-trade-disclaimer process, including display and acceptance.
- Move proxy voting to
ca/v2and add fee confirmation. - Move user lookups to
root/v2/userbefore September 1, 2026. - Fetch onboarding options dynamically and send the selected business-type key.
- Test all changes in Simulation before deploying to a live account.
FAQ
What is Saxo’s latest OpenAPI release?
Saxo’s official release-note index currently lists Release 2025/05/15 as its latest dated release. Separate planned and completed-change pages document later compatibility changes.
Why is my Saxo WebSocket connection failing?
Check that you use the new Simulation or live WebSocket domain, update both connection and authorization requests, support current TLS cipher suites, avoid unexpected headers and query parameters, and create a subscription promptly after connecting.
Can an order be rejected even after a successful precheck?
Yes. A precheck can return a PreTradeDisclaimers object. The application must retrieve the disclaimer, show it to the user, register the response and satisfy any recurring or blocking requirements before submitting the order.
What replaces Saxo’s proxy-voting v1 endpoint?
Use GET /ca/v2/proxyvoting/events. The v2 flow also requires the application to retrieve, display and accept applicable proxy-voting fees before obtaining the external voting URL.
When must root/v1/user be migrated?
Saxo’s planned-change notice gives September 1, 2026 as the removal date. The replacement is GET /root/v2/user, which requires Personal: Read permission.
The Bottom Line
For most Saxo OpenAPI users, this is a maintenance release with breaking changes rather than a cosmetic version update. Replace deprecated streaming and user endpoints, modernize TLS, remove unsupported parameters and fields, and treat disclaimers as part of the order workflow. Test in Simulation and monitor response schemas so new values such as FxCrypto and Requested do not break production code.
