Saxo Bank’s old Windows cutoff is no longer a future change. Support for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 ended with the November 2023 desktop-platform update, and the transition period ended in April 2024 when updates became mandatory.
The current supported baseline is 64-bit Windows 10 or later. Saxo also no longer presents SaxoTraderPRO as a separate product name on its international platform pages. The former SaxoTraderPRO and SaxoTraderGO products are now grouped under the SaxoTrader name, with the Windows application called SaxoTrader for desktop.
What Saxo changed
Saxo discontinued desktop-platform support for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 in November 2023. The company linked the change partly to Microsoft ending support for Windows 8.1 in January 2023.
Saxo’s original partner notice described the affected systems as Windows 8.1 and older. It said that the November 2023 platform update would not support those operating systems and that older platform versions would be discontinued during the second quarter of 2024.

A Saxo support page described the practical transition: users on Windows 8 or 8.1 could continue using the desktop platform until April 2024 if they did not install updates. After that point, updates were required and the operating system had to be upgraded.
That means keeping an old SaxoTraderPRO installation is not a permanent workaround. The older platform versions were scheduled for discontinuation, so users could not rely on an unsupported desktop build indefinitely.
For current product information, Saxo now uses the name SaxoTrader. The desktop version still supports advanced features including multi-screen workspaces, Depth Trader, and Time and Sales.

- Windows 10 or later

Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, and earlier releases are outside the current supported range. A computer running Windows 10 is not automatically compatible: a 32-bit Windows installation is also unsupported.

Saxo also supports the desktop application on macOS 10.15 or later. Users whose Windows computer does not meet the requirements can use SaxoTrader through the web platform or mobile app instead.
How to check whether your PC qualifies
Before downloading the desktop application, check both the Windows version and whether the installation is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Open Windows Search.
- Type Windows specifications or PC info.
- Check the Windows edition and version.
- Find the System type entry and confirm that it says 64-bit operating system.
This architecture check matters because Saxo documents a specific failure pattern: the application installs successfully, but clicking the SaxoTrader for desktop icon does nothing. There may be no error message. Unsupported hardware or 32-bit Windows can cause that behavior.
If the machine is running 32-bit Windows, Saxo recommends upgrading to 64-bit Windows where possible, replacing or upgrading the hardware, or using SaxoTrader web.

Saxo’s recommended configuration includes a quad-core processor, an SSD, a 1920 × 1080 display, graphics comparable to Intel HD Graphics 530, and a 10 Mbps DSL or cable connection. It recommends 16 GB of RAM when more than two displays are used; otherwise, the recommendation is 8 GB.
There are two different storage figures in Saxo’s documentation. The installed application itself uses approximately 80 MB, while Saxo’s technical requirements call for 650 MB of free disk space. The latter is the safer figure to use when checking whether the computer has enough room for installation and operation.
How to install SaxoTrader for desktop on Windows
Saxo’s documented installation process is graphical. It does not publish a command-line installation command for this application.
- Choose Download SaxoTrader for desktop for PC from Saxo’s platform or download page.
- After the download finishes, open the Windows Downloads folder.
- Double-click the downloaded software file.
- Follow the installation prompts on screen.
If the download or installation is blocked, Saxo says antivirus software may be responsible. Check the antivirus product’s notifications or application-control settings and mark SaxoTrader as a trusted or allowed application if appropriate.
Why the app may install but not open
A successful installation does not prove that the computer meets Saxo’s requirements. The most important causes to check are:

32-bit Windows
Windows 10 or later is only part of the requirement. Saxo does not support 32-bit Windows. Confirm the system type in Windows before spending time reinstalling the application.

An older processor, inadequate memory, unsupported graphics hardware, or insufficient display capability can prevent the application from starting or operating correctly. Compare the machine with Saxo’s CPU, RAM, display, and graphics requirements.
Antivirus or endpoint security
Security software can interfere with either the download or installation. Review its quarantine and blocked-application records, then follow the security product’s process for allowing SaxoTrader.
Corporate proxy, firewall, or SSL inspection
Managed business networks can create a separate problem. Saxo identifies next-generation firewalls, proxy services, and deep-packet-inspection systems as possible sources of connection or launch issues. An IT administrator may need to exempt the relevant Saxo domain from SSL inspection or adjust the organization’s network policy.

There are three practical choices:
- Upgrade Windows: Move to a supported 64-bit version, provided the computer meets the operating system’s own hardware requirements.
- Replace the computer: This may be necessary if the existing processor, firmware, or hardware cannot support a suitable 64-bit Windows installation.
- Use SaxoTrader web: Saxo identifies the browser platform as the fallback when the desktop application cannot run. The mobile app is another available access method.
Continuing to use an old Windows version also creates broader security and compatibility risks beyond Saxo’s platform. A workaround that preserves an outdated installation may leave the computer without current operating-system security updates and should not be treated as a supported trading setup.
