A RealNetworks apresentou a venda como uma forma de fortalecer seu balanço e concentrar recursos em outros negócios: SAFR, sua plataforma de visão computacional; Kontxt, voltado a processamento e análise de linguagem; e GameHouse, seu segmento de jogos casuais. A operação Napster não foi encerrada no fechamento: ela permaneceu como subsidiária da MelodyVR. Em março de 2021, a MelodyVR mudou seu nome corporativo para Napster Group PLC, e o ticker passou de MVR para NAPS, conforme relatado pela RealNetworks em seu Form 10-Q. Essa mudança posterior de denominação não altera quem comprou a participação em 2020 nem significa que o serviço tenha sido encerrado na data da venda.
