QR Code Generators for Businesses in 2026: Which Free, Dynamic or Trackable Option Fits?

By TheFinanceBase Team 14 min read

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose a static QR code when the destination will stay the same and you want a no-cost file that keeps working without a subscription. Choose a dynamic QR code when you may change the destination after printing or need scan reporting; that convenience depends on the provider’s redirect service and account remaining active. For most businesses, Adobe Express or Canva covers a fixed website, while QR TIGER, Bitly, Uniqode or Flowcode is more appropriate for editable campaigns. Check scan caps, analytics, exports, branding and cancellation terms before sending artwork to a printer.

Quick decision guide

Your situation Best-fit approach Why
A permanent website, social profile or contact page Static code The encoded destination is fixed, so you avoid an ongoing redirect subscription.
A menu, promotion or landing page that may change Dynamic code You can update the destination without replacing the printed symbol.
A small test with basic scan measurement QR TIGER Free or Flowcode Free Both publish explicit free dynamic allowances, although each has scan or code limits.
Link management plus a modest QR allowance Bitly Its plans combine QR creation with link redirects and click/scan history.
Many locations, integrations or detailed reporting A paid dynamic platform Higher tiers add larger code quotas, longer reporting windows, custom domains, APIs or integrations.

These recommendations reflect provider terms published or accessed on October 13, 2026. Prices, quotas and features can change, so verify the live plan page for your country and billing cycle before buying.

Static and dynamic QR codes are different products

Static codes encode the final destination

A static QR code stores its URL directly in the pattern. Adobe Express describes the destination as fixed after creation, and Canva similarly says a static destination is locked. If the website address remains valid, the downloaded image can continue to work without the generator maintaining a redirect account. Static generation is therefore the simplest choice for a stable homepage, review page or social profile.

The trade-off is permanent: if the URL changes, every printed copy still points to the old address. You would need to redirect the old web address yourself, update the destination site, or print a new code. A static image also does not automatically provide provider-side scan counts.

Dynamic codes use a managed redirect

A dynamic code normally contains a provider-controlled short URL. The service receives the scan, records the event according to the plan, and forwards the visitor to your current destination. Adobe’s explanation is practical: a dynamic destination can be updated without generating a new QR image.

That flexibility creates a dependency. The redirect, edit screen and analytics are tied to the provider and your account. A trial ending, an unpaid renewal or a policy action can affect a code even though the printed artwork has not changed. Uniqode’s FAQ, for example, states that its QR codes become inactive when a subscription ends. Treat any dynamic code on packaging, menus or a long-lived sign as a service commitment, not a one-time download.

“Free” describes a specific allowance

Free may mean free image generation, a limited number of dynamic codes, a scan ceiling, a branded popup or a short analytics history. It does not guarantee unlimited editing, reporting or lifetime operation. Compare the exact code quota and scan quota separately; one code may be allowed many scans while only a few new codes can be created each month.

Business QR generator comparison for 2026

Provider Static and dynamic capability Analytics and limits Exports Branding or continuity caveat Published pricing snapshot
Canva Generates both; dynamic destinations can be changed. Canva Business and Enterprise list scan counts, device and location data. PNG, JPG, SVG and PDF. Only the creator of a dynamic code can edit it. Codes do not expire by default, but policy violations can deactivate them. Free, Pro, Education and Nonprofit accounts receive a Canva logo by default; Business and Enterprise can replace it. Generation is available free; dynamic analytics are tied to Business or Enterprise features.
Adobe Express Free, static, customizable and non-expiring; URL-only. No dynamic editing or scan dashboard is documented on the cited page. PNG, JPEG and PDF. Does not currently create Wi-Fi or contact-card payloads. Adobe recommends at least 2 × 2 cm for close-range print use and a larger symbol when viewers stand farther away. Free for the documented static generator.
QR TIGER Unlimited static codes; three dynamic codes on Free. Free dynamic codes are capped at 500 scans each with basic analytics. Regular lists 12 dynamic codes, unlimited scans and advanced analytics. Verify the export formats in the selected plan before printing. Free dynamic scans show a logo popup. Plan selector, local price and quotas should be rechecked. Regular is listed at US$7 per month; Free includes the three dynamic-code allowance.
Bitly QR creation is combined with link management. Free lists two new QR codes per month and unlimited scans. Core includes 30 days of click and scan data; Growth lists 10 codes per month and four months of data. PNG, JPEG and SVG. Reporting history, code volume and redirect controls vary by tier; do not assume every Free code is editable. Core is listed at US$10 per month when billed annually, or US$120 for the year.
Uniqode Free static creation; paid dynamic codes. Dynamic starting price is published, but detailed quotas depend on the plan. Confirm formats in the plan you select. Its FAQ says QR codes become inactive when the subscription ends, making renewal important for long-life print. Dynamic plans start at US$9 per month; subscriptions are annual-only according to its FAQ.
Flowcode Free and paid Flowcode plans for branded campaigns. Free supports up to two Flowcodes and analytics for up to 500 scans. Pro Plus lists 50 Flowcodes and 6,000 scans. Confirm the selected plan’s export and brand controls. Higher tiers add integrations, API access and advanced reporting; the enterprise positioning may exceed a basic local campaign. Free is US$0; Pro Plus is US$25 per month billed annually; Growth is US$250 per month and annual-only.
QRCodeMonkey Reported as a no-account static generator. No independent confirmation of current limits or analytics. High-resolution downloads are reported by a competitor comparison. The available evidence is a vendor-authored comparison, not an official QRCodeMonkey page; verify current terms directly. Described as free in the cited October 2026 comparison.

Free options: what you actually receive

Adobe Express for a fixed URL

Adobe Express is the cleanest fit when you need a free, static URL code and no dashboard. The documented generator is customizable, does not expire, and downloads as PNG, JPEG or PDF. It is URL-only: the cited FAQ says it does not create Wi-Fi credentials or contact-card payloads. Use it for a website, booking page or social profile whose address you control and expect to keep.

Because the destination is embedded, changing the page later requires a web redirect or a new print run. Adobe’s 2 × 2 cm recommendation applies to close-range use; a counter sign viewed from across a room should use a larger symbol. That is Adobe’s guidance, not a universal guarantee for every printer, surface or phone.

Canva when the code is part of a design workflow

Canva is useful when the same team is already laying out menus, flyers or packaging. It supports static and dynamic codes and lists PNG, JPG, SVG and PDF output. A dynamic destination can be changed, but Canva says only the person who created that code can edit it. Store ownership details with your brand files so an employee departure does not strand the redirect.

Canva’s documented analytics—scan counts plus device and location information—are associated with Business or Enterprise. Free, Pro, Education and Nonprofit users receive a Canva logo by default, while Business and Enterprise can replace it. Check the actual downloaded artwork, because an unexpected logo or export setting is harder to fix after a print order.

QR TIGER Free for a small dynamic experiment

QR TIGER’s Free plan lists unlimited static codes and three dynamic codes. Each free dynamic code is capped at 500 scans and includes basic analytics; a logo popup is displayed. This can suit a short event or pilot where 500 scans per code is comfortably above expected demand and the popup is acceptable to visitors.

The Regular plan is listed at US$7 per month and includes 12 dynamic codes, unlimited scans and advanced analytics. The pricing page presents monthly and annual selectors, so confirm which billing view, currency and taxes apply to your account. If a campaign could exceed 500 scans, set an alert or move to a paid tier before the cap is reached.

Bitly Free when two new codes per month is enough

Bitly’s Free plan lists two new QR codes per month and unlimited scans. “Unlimited scans” does not mean unlimited reporting or editing: Bitly separates code creation volume, reporting history and redirect capabilities by plan. Core is listed at US$10 per month billed annually, charged as US$120 for the year, and includes 30 days of click and scan data plus redirects. Growth lists 10 codes per month, four months of data, a custom domain and bulk creation.

Bitly also lists PNG, JPEG and SVG exports. If your campaign needs a longer historical record, a custom domain or many locations, compare the tier rather than selecting Free solely because scans are unlimited.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Flowcode Free for two branded codes

Flowcode’s Free plan lists up to two Flowcodes and analytics for up to 500 scans. Pro Plus is listed at US$25 per month billed annually, with up to 50 Flowcodes and 6,000 scans. Growth is listed at US$250 per month and annual-only; higher tiers include integrations, API access and advanced reporting.

Two codes and 500 tracked scans can cover a modest counter sign and one event. A multi-location rollout, CRM integration or API workflow is likely to require a paid tier, so price the number of locations and the reporting window rather than only the first month.

QRCodeMonkey as a candidate requiring verification

An October 2026 comparison published by QRCodeStack describes QRCodeMonkey as a free, static, no-account generator with customization and high-resolution downloads. That comparison is competitor-authored and says QRCodeStack ranks its own product first. Use the description only to build a shortlist, then confirm current exports, licensing and usage terms on the official QRCodeMonkey site before a business print run.

Paid dynamic platforms: compare the commitment

Count codes, scans and history independently

A provider may limit how many codes you create, how many scans those codes receive, and how far back analytics remain available. Bitly’s Free allowance is two new codes per month with unlimited scans, while Core adds a 30-day click-and-scan history. QR TIGER separates three free dynamic codes from a 500-scan cap per code and offers unlimited scans on Regular. Flowcode limits Free analytics to 500 scans and Pro Plus to 6,000. These are different dimensions; place them in separate columns in your budget sheet.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Calculate annual cost from the billing language

Bitly Core’s US$10 monthly display represents a US$120 annual charge when billed annually. Uniqode publishes dynamic pricing starting at US$9 per month but says subscriptions are annual-only, so the headline monthly figure is not a month-to-month commitment. Flowcode Pro Plus is US$25 per month billed annually, and Growth is annual-only. QR TIGER shows a monthly/annual selector. Ask whether taxes, renewal rates and additional codes are included before approving a purchase order.

Plan for cancellation before printing

Print survives longer than most software trials. Uniqode’s stated inactive-after-cancellation behavior is a clear warning to document renewal ownership and dates. For every dynamic provider, obtain the specific plan’s answer to four questions: Does the code continue redirecting after cancellation? Can the destination be exported or migrated? Is there a grace period after a failed renewal? What happens to scan history? Do not assume another provider’s policy applies.

Match the generator to the campaign

Stable website or business card

Use a static code when the URL is under your control and unlikely to change. Adobe Express is a straightforward free option with PNG, JPEG and PDF output. Canva is practical if the code must be placed inside a larger design and you need SVG or editable design files. Keep the destination short, mobile-friendly and permanent; the code itself cannot be corrected later.

Menu, seasonal promotion or event sign

Use a dynamic code when staff may switch a menu, offer or registration page after printing. QR TIGER’s free allowance can test a small campaign, while Bitly, Uniqode or Flowcode can support larger deployments depending on the required history, code count and integrations. Put the account renewal date in the campaign calendar and assign at least two administrators.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Packaging or other long-lived print

Prefer a static code if the destination can remain valid for the product’s life. If dynamic editing is essential, choose a provider whose post-cancellation behavior is documented in writing, budget renewals for the full expected shelf life and retain the original destination URL. A dynamic code that stops redirecting can make every package in circulation unusable.

Multiple locations or departments

List each location, code owner and destination before selecting a plan. Bitly Growth’s listed bulk creation and custom domain may reduce manual work; Flowcode’s higher tiers list integrations and API access; Canva’s creator-only editing rule makes ownership tracking especially important. Confirm whether analytics can be filtered by code or location before assuming a single account will answer regional questions.

Exports, branding and print-readiness

Choose a format that matches production

  • SVG: Preferred when your design or printer needs a scalable vector; Canva and Bitly list SVG among their exports.
  • PDF: Convenient for print documents; Canva and Adobe Express list PDF output.
  • PNG or JPEG: Useful for digital screens and raster layouts; Canva, Adobe Express and Bitly list these formats.

Export availability can depend on the account or design context. Download the exact file you will send to production rather than assuming a format shown on a general marketing page is included in your plan.

Check logos, popups and quiet space

Canva may place its logo on Free, Pro, Education and Nonprofit accounts. QR TIGER Free lists a logo popup. A branded mark or popup can be acceptable in an internal test but distracting on a premium package or menu. Keep the code’s clear margin intact, avoid placing text across the pattern and do not crop the file after export.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Test at the final size and distance

  1. Set the artwork to its intended physical dimensions.
  2. Print a proof on the same paper or material, including any coating or sign holder.
  3. Scan from the nearest and farthest positions a customer will use, not only from your monitor.
  4. Confirm the destination, mobile layout and any fallback page.
  5. Have more than one phone test the proof before approving the full run.

Adobe recommends at least 2 × 2 cm for close-range use and scaling up for longer viewing distances. Treat that as a starting recommendation; contrast, lighting, camera quality and surface finish also affect practical readability.

Analytics that are useful for a business decision

First define the decision the data must support. If you only need to know whether a poster generated visits, a basic scan count may be sufficient. If you need to compare locations, devices or campaign periods, verify that the plan exposes those dimensions and retains them for the required months.

  • Scan allowance: A cap such as 500 scans per QR TIGER Free code or 500 Flowcode Free scans can stop measurement or trigger a plan change.
  • History window: Bitly Core lists 30 days of click and scan data, while Growth lists four months. Export or archive reports if you need year-over-year comparisons.
  • Granularity: Canva Business and Enterprise list scan counts, device and location data. Do not assume a Free account includes the same fields.
  • Code-level separation: Use separate codes for separate signs or locations only if your plan permits enough codes; otherwise you cannot attribute scans cleanly.

No provider figure above is an industry adoption or conversion benchmark. These are plan allowances published by the vendors, not evidence that one format converts better than another.

Pre-print and renewal checklist

  • Write down the exact destination URL and who controls it.
  • Decide static versus dynamic based on whether the destination may change.
  • For dynamic codes, record the account owner, administrators, renewal date and cancellation behavior.
  • Confirm code quota, scan quota, analytics fields and history length for the selected plan.
  • Check whether the plan adds a logo, popup or other provider branding.
  • Confirm export format and resolution in the account you will actually use.
  • Scan the final artwork at production size and viewing distance.
  • Keep a digital copy of the approved artwork and destination mapping.
  • Schedule a periodic live scan, especially for packaging or unattended signage.
  • For an optional tabletop display, an acrylic QR sign holder can keep a counter or event code upright; it is an accessory, not a requirement for generating or tracking the code.

Common failure modes and fixes

The destination changed after printing

A static code cannot be edited. Restore the old URL with a web redirect if you control the domain, or replace the printed material. For future campaigns, use a dynamic code only after confirming the provider’s renewal and post-cancellation rules.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The free scan allowance was reached

Check whether the provider blocks scans, stops analytics or simply asks you to upgrade. QR TIGER Free caps each dynamic code at 500 scans; Flowcode Free lists analytics for up to 500 scans. Move to a suitable paid tier before peak traffic, and do not wait for a busy event to discover the limit.

An employee who created the code left

Canva says only the creator can edit a dynamic code. Transfer ownership while that account is active, add administrative access where the provider permits it and store destination details in a shared business record.

The code works on screen but fails in print

Re-export the original artwork, restore the clear margin, increase physical size and test under the actual lighting and distance. Avoid stretching a raster image or placing it on a reflective, patterned background. Approve a physical proof before ordering the full quantity.

The code stopped working after cancellation

Check the provider’s subscription status and documented policy first. Uniqode states that codes become inactive when a subscription ends. If continuity is essential, renew promptly or replace the printed code with a static destination under your control; do not assume the redirect can be migrated.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Bottom-line recommendation

For a fixed URL and zero software commitment, use a static generator: Adobe Express is a documented free, non-expiring URL option, while Canva adds design-oriented exports and static/dynamic choices. For an editable campaign, start with a small allowance such as QR TIGER Free or Flowcode Free only when their scan limits and branding fit. Choose Bitly when link management and a defined reporting window matter, and evaluate Uniqode or Flowcode’s higher tiers when annual billing, integrations or larger deployments justify the commitment. The safest purchase is the one whose code lifetime, export, analytics and cancellation behavior you have verified before printing.
