There is no single universal Punjab lottery deadline. For lotteries governed by the Punjab State Lotteries Rules 2015, the ordinary claim period is the period printed in that particular scheme. A late claim may be considered for recorded reasons first by the Director and then, within the rule’s outer window, by the State Government. Under the older Punjab State Lottery Rules 1998, the ordinary period was 30 days from publication of the result in the Punjab Government Gazette, with limited extensions.
Claimants should preserve the original ticket, use the prescribed claim form, assemble identity and bank documents, and independently verify any agent with the Directorate of Lotteries. An unsolicited “release fee,” a request to surrender the only ticket, or an agent who cannot be matched to current Directorate records is a serious warning sign.

Which deadline applies to your Punjab lottery ticket?
The controlling deadline comes from the rules and the specific lottery scheme, not from a generic statement that every Punjab prize expires after 30 days. Read the scheme, draw notice and result publication information connected with your ticket before deciding that a claim is late.
Claims under the Punjab State Lotteries Rules 2015
The 2015 rules refer to “the period specified in the scheme.” That means the ordinary period can differ between schemes. The scheme’s stated period is the first deadline to calculate.

The cited provision then creates a discretionary late-claim process. During the first 90 days after the specified period, the Director may consider an application. The State Government may consider an application after that stage, but not beyond 180 days, and reasons must be recorded in writing. These are opportunities for official discretion, not automatic extensions. A claimant should apply as soon as the ordinary deadline is missed and explain the delay with supporting evidence.
The rule states that if prize money remains unclaimed or is not disbursed within the specified period and the permitted late-claim window, it “shall become the property of the State Government.” Once that point is reached, a ticket holder cannot treat payment as an ordinary entitlement.
Claims under the Punjab State Lottery Rules 1998
The older 1998 wording used a definite 30-day period: prizes not claimed within 30 days from publication of the result in the Punjab Government Gazette were not to be disbursed and stood forfeited to the Government. The Director could consider an application up to 180 days, while the State Government could consider one up to three years, if the claimant supplied cogent reasons recorded in writing.

Because the two rule sets use different triggers and outer limits, identify the governing scheme before relying on a 30-day, 180-day or three-year figure.
Can you claim a Punjab lottery prize after 30 days?
Possibly, but not as a matter of right. Thirty days is the ordinary period in the 1998 rules. For a 1998-rule ticket, the Director’s late-claim discretion could extend to 180 days and the State Government’s discretion could extend to three years, provided the application gave cogent reasons and the authority recorded them.
For a 2015-rule scheme, 30 days may be irrelevant if the scheme states another ordinary period. After that scheme-specific deadline, send a reasoned application promptly. The Director’s 90-day stage and the State Government’s 180-day outer stage are discretionary. Approval is not guaranteed merely because the ticket is genuine.
What makes a late application stronger?
- State the exact draw, ticket number, prize category and amount.
- Explain the delay chronologically rather than giving a bare assertion that you were unaware.
- Attach evidence supporting the explanation, such as records showing when the result or ticket became available to you.
- Include the same ownership, identity and banking documents required for an ordinary claim.
- Send the application through a traceable, documented route and keep copies of everything submitted.
Do not wait for an agent to promise that a late claim is guaranteed. The rule leaves the decision with the named government authority.

Documents required for a Punjab lottery prize claim
The Director, Punjab State Lotteries claim instructions call for a prescribed form for taxable-prize claims. Prepare the following before submitting the file:
- The original prize-winning ticket.
- One photocopy of the ticket attested by a Gazetted Officer or Notary Public.
- Four passport-size photographs.
- An ownership affidavit made before a First Class Magistrate or Notary Public.
- Your name and complete postal address.
- The lottery name and the prize amount.
- PAN number and contact telephone number.
- Bank account number, IFSC, bank name and branch.
- A cancelled cheque where requested by the claim instructions.
Check that the name on the claim, affidavit, PAN and bank account is consistent. If a document uses a different spelling, obtain clarification before filing rather than allowing an avoidable identity question to delay verification.
Payment method and deductions
Accepted genuine claims are paid after applicable income-tax deductions. The instructions provide different delivery options by location: winners outside Punjab may be paid by demand draft or RTGS, with applicable draft and postal charges; winners within Punjab may be paid by cheque or RTGS. The instructions do not establish a universal tax rate, so do not rely on an agent’s quoted percentage as an official calculation.

- Identify the governing scheme. Keep the ticket, draw information and the scheme’s stated claim period together. Determine whether the 1998 or 2015 rule framework is cited.
- Check the deadline. Calculate the ordinary period from the correct trigger: Gazette publication under the 1998 wording or the period written in the 2015 scheme.
- Secure the ticket. Make high-resolution scans or photographs for your records, but retain the physical original in a secure place. Do not write on, laminate, alter or otherwise handle it in a way that could affect examination.
- Complete the prescribed form. Enter the lottery name, draw and prize details exactly as printed, then add your address, PAN, telephone and bank information.
- Obtain attestations. Have the photocopy attested by a Gazetted Officer or Notary Public and execute the ownership affidavit before a First Class Magistrate or Notary Public.
- Prepare payment details. Add the cancelled cheque when requested and verify the account number and IFSC digit by digit.
- Add a late-claim explanation if needed. If the ordinary period has passed, attach a signed statement of reasons and evidence, and identify whether the application is being made to the Director or, where applicable, the State Government.
- Submit through a documented channel. Address the file to the Director, Punjab State Lotteries, retain a complete copy and obtain a receipt, dispatch proof or other acknowledgement.
- Follow up independently. Use the Directorate contact details published by the Punjab Government, not a phone number supplied only by an intermediary.
Ticket conditions that can defeat payment
The claim instructions warn that Punjab is not liable for tickets lost in postal transit. They also state that defaced or mutilated tickets may not be paid and that tampered tickets are not entitled to a prize.

Before mailing anything
- Photograph both sides of the ticket and record its number, draw and date.
- Use a trackable delivery service if the Directorate instructs you to send the original.
- Keep the receipt, tracking record and a copy of the complete claim packet.
- Never send a loose original to an unknown person or hand it over without a written submission route.
A scan or photocopy does not replace the original ticket where the claim instructions require original-ticket examination. If the ticket is already damaged, explain its condition in the application and ask the Directorate for the correct procedure; do not attempt to repair or alter it.

Use those published details to ask whether the named person or business is connected with the relevant lottery scheme and whether the claimed draw and ticket information are genuine. Ask the intermediary to identify the scheme, draw date, ticket details and the official process. Then verify those particulars independently with the Directorate.

An official 2023 e-procurement notice records a Directorate tender for “Selection of Distributor for sale/marketing of Punjab State Lottery Schemes.” This shows that distributor selection is handled through a Directorate process. It does not, by itself, prove that a particular shop, social-media account or caller is currently authorised. Authorization must be checked against current Directorate records or a current scheme notice.

Warning signs of a fake agent or prize-release scam
- A demand for an upfront “release,” “clearance,” “GST,” courier or processing fee before any official verification.
- Pressure to transfer money to a personal account or a wallet.
- Instructions to send the only original ticket to an unverified address.
- Refusal to provide the scheme name, draw details or a written acknowledgement.
- Promises that a late claim is automatic or that tax can be avoided by paying the intermediary.
- Documents or messages that cannot be confirmed through the Punjab Government directory or Directorate notices.
End the conversation when any of these signs appears. Contact the Directorate yourself and preserve messages, payment requests and ticket images if you need to report the approach.
What to do when a prize is already unclaimed or expired
If the scheme’s ordinary period has just ended
File immediately with a written explanation. Include the complete claim packet, explain why the deadline was missed and request consideration under the applicable late-claim provision. The decision remains discretionary, so avoid language that assumes approval.
If the 2015 rule’s 180-day outer period has passed
The cited 2015 provision says money still unclaimed or undistributed within the specified period becomes State Government property. You may still ask the Directorate to confirm the status in writing, but the rules do not create a routine entitlement after that point.

If a 1998-rule ticket is beyond three years
The 1998 wording gives the State Government discretion up to three years on an application showing cogent reasons. After that outer limit, the quoted rule provides no ordinary extension route. Obtain a written status response rather than paying anyone who claims to have a private way to unlock the prize.
Practical checklist before you file
- Have you identified the scheme and the rule framework?
- Have you calculated the deadline from the correct trigger?
- Is the original ticket intact, legible and free from alteration?
- Are the photocopy, attestations, affidavit and four photographs ready?
- Do the claim, PAN and bank records carry matching identity details?
- Is the IFSC and account number copied directly from a bank document?
- If late, have you supplied a specific explanation and evidence?
- Have you independently confirmed the Directorate contact details?
- Do you have a complete copy and proof of submission?
