The segment produced $764 million in the second quarter of 2026, an increase of 149% from a year earlier and 28% from the first quarter. That pace is far above Palantir’s company-wide growth, making it a useful test of whether commercial demand is broadening beyond government contracts.
It is not a guarantee that the stock will rise. A single quarter can be affected by customer timing and comparisons, while valuation, margins, contract conversion and business risks determine how much of that growth is already reflected in the share price.

What the 149% figure actually measures
Palantir reported $764 million of revenue from its U.S. commercial business for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. The 149% figure is a year-over-year comparison with the same quarter in 2025. On a sequential basis, revenue increased 28% from the first quarter of 2026.
Those are different measurements. Year-over-year growth reduces the effect of normal quarterly seasonality, while quarter-over-quarter growth shows how quickly the business changed over the most recent three-month period. Neither percentage should be treated as a permanent annual growth rate.
#1 Best Overall
The figures come from Palantir’s August 3, 2026 business update and its Form 10-Q filed August 4. The latest materials reviewed identify the second quarter as the company’s most recent reported quarter. A later earnings release could change the starting point for any current analysis.
| Measure | Q2 2026 result | Comparison | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|---|
| U.S. commercial revenue | $764 million | Up 149% year over year | Scale and annual growth of the segment |
| U.S. commercial sequential growth | Not a separate revenue total in the cited summary | Up 28% quarter over quarter | Recent operating momentum |
| Total company revenue | $1.935 billion | Up 93% year over year; up 19% quarter over quarter | Company-wide growth context |
| U.S. commercial revenue growth in Q1 2026 | Not stated as a dollar total in the cited summary | Up 133% year over year | Prior-quarter comparison for persistence |
U.S. commercial growth therefore accelerated from the reported 133% year-over-year rate in the first quarter to 149% in the second. Two quarters, however, are not enough to establish a durable long-term trend. The percentage will eventually face larger comparison bases, and revenue can move between quarters when customers delay or accelerate deployments.
Why this segment matters more than the headline alone
Palantir’s total revenue reached $1.935 billion in Q2 2026, up 93% year over year and 19% sequentially. U.S. commercial revenue grew faster on both the annual and sequential comparisons. That difference matters because a rapidly expanding business line can change the company’s growth mix and reduce dependence on any single customer category.
The segment’s dollar contribution is also material: $764 million represented a substantial portion of the quarter’s total revenue. A high percentage on a very small base would be less informative; here, the reported base is large enough that continued execution could affect consolidated results.

Palantir’s Form 10-Q explains that increases in revenue from existing customers are generally related to increased adoption of its products and services within their organizations. That statement points investors toward an important question: is growth coming from repeat expansion inside current customers, from new customer wins, or from a small number of unusually large contracts? The filing and business updates should be read for that mix rather than relying on the headline percentage alone.
Revenue is recognized money; contract value is a forward-looking signal
Palantir also reported strong U.S. commercial contract metrics in the second quarter:
| Contract measure | Q2 2026 amount | Year-over-year change | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Remaining deal value | $6.24 billion | Up 124% | Value remaining under commercial agreements, subject to contract terms and timing |
| Total contract value | $2.13 billion | Up 153% | Value of contracts entered into or awarded during the period, including applicable obligations and options |
| Recognized U.S. commercial revenue | $764 million for Q2 | Up 149% | Revenue recorded in the quarter under accounting rules |
These amounts are complementary, not interchangeable. Remaining deal value is not revenue already earned, and total contract value is not a promise that the entire amount will be recognized on a fixed schedule. Palantir’s presentation says total contract value includes existing obligations and unexercised customer options. The Form 10-Q discusses provisions such as options and termination rights that can affect realization.

A contract can be recognized over multiple periods, modified, delayed or terminated, and an option may never be exercised. The appropriate use of these figures is as supporting evidence that the commercial pipeline and deal activity are substantial, while the $764 million remains the clearest measure of revenue already delivered.

Can Palantir keep growing U.S. commercial revenue this fast?
No available company disclosure establishes that a 149% annual rate will continue. Investors can, however, test the durability of the thesis with several observable indicators in each subsequent release.
Look for growth across more than one quarter
A third or fourth consecutive quarter of strong year-over-year growth would provide more evidence than the Q1-to-Q2 sequence by itself. Pay attention to both the percentage and the dollar increase, because a slowing percentage can still represent a larger absolute addition as the base expands.
Check whether existing customers are expanding
Palantir’s filing links existing-customer revenue increases to broader product adoption. Consistent expansion across customer accounts is generally a healthier signal than a quarter dominated by one unusually large deployment. The company’s customer and contract commentary can help distinguish broad adoption from concentration.

Compare contract activity with recognized revenue
Rising remaining deal value and total contract value can support future growth, but the conversion into reported revenue is the key test. If contract values rise while recognized revenue repeatedly falls short of expectations, the issue may be timing, customer options, implementation capacity or cancellations.

Watch the sequential trend as well as the annual rate
The 28% quarter-over-quarter increase in Q2 is a useful momentum check. Future sequential results will show whether the business is compounding from the higher base or producing isolated spikes. Seasonal effects and the timing of large agreements still need to be considered.
The main risks behind the growth thesis
Palantir’s Form 10-Q identifies a range of risks that high growth does not eliminate. They should be considered before treating U.S. commercial revenue as a decisive stock signal.
- Customer demand: Businesses may reduce technology spending, delay projects or choose competing platforms.
- Long sales cycles: A signed agreement can require lengthy procurement, deployment and approval steps before revenue is recognized.
- Contract realization: Options, termination provisions and other terms can reduce the amount or timing of expected revenue.
- Retention and adoption: Customers may not renew, expand usage or deploy products throughout their organizations.
- Competition: Rival software providers and internal customer development teams can pressure pricing, win rates and margins.
- Concentration and timing: A small number of large agreements can make quarterly results volatile.
- Execution capacity: Rapid sales growth must be matched by implementation, support and product resources.
These risks matter to valuation as well as operations. Even excellent revenue growth may not support a high share price if margins deteriorate, cash generation disappoints or investors decide that future growth has been priced in already.
A different “one number” applies to a five-year stock scenario
An August 17, 2026 analysis by Daniel Sparks at The Motley Fool used a different metric: approximately 36% annual company-wide revenue growth for five years as a hurdle in a specified market-beating scenario. That is a modeled requirement, not Palantir guidance, a reported statistic or a guaranteed return.

The two figures answer different questions:
| Figure | Horizon | Scope | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 149% growth | Q2 2026 versus Q2 2025 | U.S. commercial segment | Reported operating result |
| About 36% annually | Five-year scenario | Total company revenue | Analyst model based on assumptions |
The 36% hurdle depends on assumptions about valuation, profit margins, investor returns and the multiple assigned to the business at the end of the period. It cannot be compared directly with a single-quarter segment growth rate. A business can exceed a short-term segment target and still fail to meet a long-term stock-return scenario if its valuation contracts or margins fall.
How to analyze Palantir’s next earnings release
Use a consistent process rather than reacting to one headline number.
- Confirm the period and geography. Identify the quarter ended date and make sure the figure is U.S. commercial revenue, not total commercial revenue or total company revenue.
- Record both comparison bases. Write down year-over-year and quarter-over-quarter changes separately. The comparison period should appear beside every percentage.
- Calculate the dollar contribution. Compare the segment’s revenue increase with the $1.935 billion Q2 company-wide base and note whether the segment is becoming a larger part of the business.
- Read contract metrics cautiously. Track remaining deal value and total contract value, but label them as contract measures rather than recognized sales.
- Look for breadth. Review comments about new customers, expansion within existing customers, customer concentration and deployment activity.
- Check profitability and cash flow. Revenue growth alone does not show whether incremental sales carry attractive margins or require disproportionate costs.
- Separate operations from valuation. After assessing execution, examine whether the current share price already assumes unusually high growth. Use time-stamped market data because prices, market capitalization and valuation multiples change continuously.
- Update the base case. If a newer earnings release is available, use it instead of automatically carrying forward Q2 2026 figures.
What the number can—and cannot—decide
U.S. commercial revenue growth is a sensible leading indicator because it is reported revenue, it is large enough to influence consolidated results, and it outpaced total company growth in Q2 2026. Sustained expansion would support the argument that Palantir is building a powerful commercial business.

The October 7, 2026 article that popularized the “one number” framing presents an analyst’s interpretation, not an outcome certified by Palantir. Share prices incorporate expectations about future revenue, margins, competition, interest rates and risk. Those expectations can change even when a company reports strong results.
The disciplined conclusion is to treat $764 million and its 149% year-over-year increase as the starting checkpoint. Follow whether growth remains broad, whether contract value converts into recognized revenue, whether profitability keeps pace and whether the valuation leaves room for further execution. That framework is more reliable than extrapolating one extraordinary quarter indefinitely.
