NVIDIA is the larger business in the latest reported results, while AMD posted the slightly faster year-over-year Data Center growth rate. Those facts describe operating performance, not which stock will deliver the better return. The quarters end on different dates, the companies report different business mixes, and the available evidence does not include synchronized prices or forward estimates for a defensible valuation ranking.
A useful comparison therefore separates five questions: Are the periods comparable? How large and fast-growing is each business? How profitable is that growth on the same accounting basis? What does management actually guide for the next quarter? What price are investors paying for the expected cash flows? Work through those questions in that order before calling either share cheap, expensive or a better buy.

Start by aligning the reporting periods
NVIDIA and AMD do not use the same fiscal calendar. NVIDIA’s latest cited quarter is Q2 FY2027, ended July 26, 2026. AMD’s latest cited quarter is Q2 2026, ended June 27, 2026. The quarter labels look similar, but the end dates are about a month apart. Treat the figures as the latest available snapshots, not as perfectly synchronized three-month periods.

Compare scale and growth together
Revenue dollars show the size of the business that produced the results; percentage growth shows the pace at which that base changed. Looking at only one of the two can give a misleading impression.
| Measure | NVIDIA Q2 FY2027 | AMD Q2 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Quarter ended | July 26, 2026 | June 27, 2026 |
| Total revenue | $96.221 billion | $11.5 billion |
| Year-over-year revenue change | Up 106% | Up 50% |
| Data Center revenue | $89.0 billion | $6.7 billion |
| Data Center year-over-year change | Up 117% | Up 107% |
| Next-quarter revenue outlook | Q3 FY2027: $108 billion, plus or minus 2% | Q3 2026: $12.2 billion, plus or minus $300 million |
NVIDIA’s reported quarterly revenue is more than eight times AMD’s in these different-period snapshots. AMD’s total revenue growth is substantial, but it starts from a much smaller base. In Data Center, AMD’s 107% growth rate is slightly below NVIDIA’s 117% rate in the cited quarters, although both are above 100%. A growth percentage does not erase the large difference in revenue dollars, and neither figure says what either stock is worth.
Use the percentages to ask whether demand is accelerating or slowing for each company. Use the dollars to assess how much economic activity and potential cash generation the company already has. Do not multiply a single quarter’s growth rate into a long-term forecast without examining customer concentration, capacity, product cycles and the valuation already embedded in the share price.

Data Center is the center of the comparison, but the segment labels are not identical reporting units. NVIDIA’s cited quarter produced $89.0 billion of Data Center revenue, up 117% year over year. AMD’s Data Center segment produced $6.7 billion, up 107%, with AMD attributing the increase to EPYC processors and Instinct GPUs.
The similar growth rates can tempt an investor to treat the businesses as interchangeable. They are not. Revenue mix, product generations, software, systems, networking, customer contracts and the contribution of other businesses can all differ. A segment name is an issuer-defined reporting category, not a standardized industry measurement.

NVIDIA’s operating picture
NVIDIA’s Q2 FY2027 results were heavily concentrated in Data Center revenue. Its total revenue was $96.221 billion, so the $89.0 billion Data Center figure represented the overwhelming majority of the quarter. That concentration makes the company’s AI and accelerated-computing demand especially important to consolidated results. It also means a change in large customers’ capital spending, supply availability or export policy can have an outsized effect on reported revenue.
AMD’s operating picture
AMD’s fiscal 2025 annual report describes three reportable businesses: Data Center, Client and Gaming, and Embedded. AMD reported $34.6 billion of total revenue for fiscal 2025, including $16.6 billion from Data Center and $14.6 billion from Client and Gaming. Beginning in fiscal 2025, AMD combined Client and Gaming into one reportable segment, so year-over-year comparisons should use the company’s restated presentation rather than mixing old and new segment definitions.
AMD’s Q2 2026 Data Center result is therefore only one part of a more diversified reported structure. A strong Data Center quarter can coexist with different conditions in client PCs, gaming products or embedded markets. Compare the segment dollars and trends, not just the headline Data Center percentage.
Keep profitability comparisons on the same accounting basis
Gross margin is a useful first check on the economics of the reported revenue, but it is not a complete measure of profitability. Most importantly, compare GAAP with GAAP. AMD also publishes a non-GAAP figure that excludes or adjusts items under the company’s definitions; it should not be treated as interchangeable with NVIDIA’s GAAP number.
| Profitability measure | NVIDIA Q2 FY2027 | AMD Q2 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| GAAP gross margin | 75.0% | 54% |
| Non-GAAP gross margin | Not reported in the cited figure | 56% |
| GAAP operating income | $63.734 billion | Not reported in the cited figure |
| GAAP net income | $59.688 billion | Not reported in the cited figure |
NVIDIA’s 75.0% GAAP gross margin and AMD’s 54% GAAP gross margin are single-quarter observations from different fiscal periods. They may reflect differences in product mix, pricing, manufacturing costs, systems content and accounting items. They do not by themselves prove that one company will maintain a particular margin or that its stock will outperform.

For a fuller profitability study, collect several quarters of GAAP gross margin, operating income, net income and operating cash flow for both issuers. Then investigate the reasons for changes: product mix, inventory charges, acquisition accounting, stock compensation, manufacturing arrangements and one-time items. If you use an adjusted measure, show the reconciliation and label it as non-GAAP rather than placing it in the same column as GAAP.
Treat guidance as an expectation, not a result
Management guidance describes what the company expects for a future period. It is not evidence that the revenue has already been earned.
NVIDIA’s outlook
NVIDIA guided to $108 billion, plus or minus 2%, for Q3 FY2027. The range is a management outlook, and the company’s release warns that forward-looking statements about growth, products, technology benefits, supply and demand, partner arrangements and regulation are subject to risks and uncertainties. Compare the eventual reported Q3 number with the guidance range rather than treating $108 billion as a forecast you can bank on.
AMD’s outlook
AMD guided to $12.2 billion, plus or minus $300 million, for Q3 2026. That is also guidance, not realized revenue. The fiscal period differs from NVIDIA’s Q3 FY2027, so do not place the two outlook numbers on a chart that implies they cover the same dates without labeling the calendars.
When evaluating execution, record the original guidance, the subsequent actual result, and whether the company raised, maintained or reduced its outlook. That sequence is more informative than a single optimistic sentence in an earnings release.

Use annual figures for context, not false symmetry
NVIDIA reported $215.9 billion of fiscal 2026 revenue, up 65%, with a 71.1% GAAP gross margin. Its fiscal year ended January 25, 2026. AMD reported $34.6 billion of fiscal 2025 revenue, including $16.6 billion from Data Center and $14.6 billion from Client and Gaming. Those fiscal years do not end at the same time, so they are context for each company’s scale and mix, not a same-period annual comparison.
Annual figures help identify whether a quarterly surge is part of a sustained trend. Review the annual report’s segment definitions, cash flow, capital spending and diluted share count before comparing per-share measures. A company can grow revenue while issuing shares, building inventory or spending heavily to expand capacity; those effects matter to shareholders even when they are not visible in a headline revenue percentage.
Put the principal risks next to the growth claims
AMD’s Q2 2026 Form 10-Q describes its markets as highly competitive and rapidly evolving and the semiconductor industry as highly cyclical. The filing identifies several risks that can change both revenue and margins:
- Competition and market share: AMD says competitors’ resources, market positions and software ecosystems can influence customer choices and limit alternatives. The company specifically discusses NVIDIA’s proprietary software ecosystem in that risk disclosure. This is AMD’s description of a risk, not an independent measurement of market share.
- Product timing: Missing a launch window, experiencing a design issue or failing to deliver a competitive processor or accelerator can shift customer demand to another supplier.
- External manufacturing: Reliance on third-party foundries, packaging providers and other suppliers exposes AMD to capacity, yield, input availability and geopolitical constraints.
- Customer concentration: The loss or reduction of a significant customer can affect results disproportionately, especially when a small number of buyers place large accelerator or server orders.
- Software and hardware compatibility: Customers evaluate the complete platform, not only silicon specifications. Compatibility, developer tools and application support can influence adoption and switching costs.
- Export controls: Restrictions can limit which products may be sold to particular markets or require redesigns, affecting addressable demand and inventory.
- Cyclicality: Semiconductor demand can move sharply with enterprise budgets, consumer purchasing, cloud capital expenditure and inventory corrections.
NVIDIA’s Q2 FY2027 release carries a comparable forward-looking caution. Its statements about expected growth, product and technology benefits, supply and demand, partner arrangements and regulatory changes are management expectations that could differ from actual outcomes. A strong historical quarter does not remove execution, supply, policy or demand risk.

The available evidence does not establish synchronized October 13, 2026 share prices, market capitalizations or forward earnings and cash-flow estimates for both companies from one comparable source. Consequently, it does not support calling NVIDIA or AMD the cheaper stock, the more expensive stock or the better buy.
Build a reproducible valuation worksheet
- Choose a date and price source. Record the closing share price for both companies on the same date, and note whether you are using regular-session prices or another convention.
- Use consistent share counts. Obtain diluted shares or the share-count measure required by your valuation method from comparable filings. Multiply price by the appropriate shares to calculate market capitalization, and do not mix basic shares for one company with diluted shares for the other.
- Select the same forward period. Use a clearly defined next-twelve-month or next-fiscal-year revenue, earnings or free-cash-flow estimate for each company. Label the estimate date and provider.
- Calculate more than one multiple. Examples include price-to-earnings, enterprise value-to-operating income and enterprise value-to-free-cash-flow. For a high-growth semiconductor company, an investor may also examine price-to-sales, but that metric ignores margins and cash conversion.
- State the assumptions. Write down expected growth, gross margin, operating expenses, taxes, capital spending and dilution. A valuation is a model, not a fact discovered by dividing one headline number by another.
- Run sensitivity cases. Test slower Data Center growth, lower margins, delayed products, supply constraints and export restrictions. Observe how much the implied value changes when one assumption moves.
- Compare valuation with execution evidence. Check whether actual revenue, margins and cash flow are meeting the assumptions embedded in the price. Do not use a company’s historical growth rate as a substitute for a stock-return forecast.
Without those dated inputs, a statement such as “AMD is cheaper because its price-to-sales ratio is lower” or “NVIDIA deserves a premium” would be an unsupported conclusion. The same discipline applies to analyst targets: record the estimate date, the assumptions and whether the target is based on earnings, cash flow or another metric.
A practical decision framework for investors
Use the following sequence when you update the comparison after each earnings release:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Calendar check: write down each quarter’s end date and fiscal label before copying numbers.
- Scale check: record total revenue and segment revenue in dollars, then add year-over-year and sequential changes where the issuer reports them.
- Mix check: identify what is included in Data Center, Client and Gaming, Embedded and any other reportable segments for that year.
- Accounting check: keep GAAP and non-GAAP measures in separate columns and read the reconciliation for adjusted figures.
- Execution check: compare prior guidance with the actual result and document changes to the next outlook.
- Risk check: revisit competition, manufacturing capacity, customer concentration, software compatibility, cyclicality and export restrictions.
- Valuation check: use same-date prices, share counts and forward estimates before making a relative-value judgment.
This framework prevents a common error: allowing the most exciting growth statistic to decide the investment conclusion before price and risk have been considered.
What the latest evidence establishes
The latest cited results establish that NVIDIA is the larger business by reported quarterly revenue and Data Center revenue. They also show AMD growing total revenue 50% year over year and Data Center revenue 107% year over year, while NVIDIA grew total revenue 106% and Data Center revenue 117% in its different-period quarter. NVIDIA reported a higher cited GAAP gross margin, but the comparison is limited to one quarter for each company and does not include a complete matched set of AMD operating-income or cash-flow figures.
The evidence does not establish which stock offers better value. That requires dated, synchronized prices; consistent share counts; comparable forward earnings or cash-flow estimates; and an explicit valuation model. Until those inputs are assembled, the responsible conclusion is about business scale, growth, mix, profitability measures and risk—not a buy ranking.
