Four years later, the more important story is no longer his age: BRINC says it has raised more than $250 million, expanded Seattle manufacturing, and is building drones and software for police, fire departments, and other emergency responders.
The company’s growth is substantial but should be read carefully. Its financing, revenue, production, customer, and deployment figures are largely company-reported. The central question is whether BRINC can turn an intriguing founder story and impressive hardware into dependable public-safety infrastructure.

Who is Blake Resnick?
Resnick grew up in Las Vegas and has said that the 2017 mass shooting there influenced his interest in giving first responders remote visibility during dangerous incidents. His idea was straightforward: if emergency personnel could see and communicate with people inside a hazardous location before entering, they might make better decisions and face less risk.

Resnick left Northwestern University to work on BRINC full time. That decision made sense only if the company could solve a specific operational problem, rather than merely produce an exciting drone demonstration. The distinction matters: a compelling founder biography can attract investors and attention, but it does not by itself establish that a public agency’s equipment will work reliably, comply with regulations, or improve emergency outcomes.
What BRINC builds
BRINC is a Seattle-based American developer and manufacturer of public-safety technology. It is not primarily a consumer photography-drone company. Its products are aimed at police, SWAT teams, fire departments, search-and-rescue organizations, and other emergency responders.
The company’s product categories include:
- Indoor and confined-space drones;
- Drones for police and SWAT operations;
- Drone as First Responder, or DFR, systems;
- 911-response drones;
- Search-and-rescue and disaster-response tools; and
- Related software, communications, charging, and operating infrastructure.
BRINC’s stated value proposition is earlier information and remote intervention—not the automatic replacement of firefighters, police officers, dispatchers, or paramedics. A drone can provide a view, transmit audio, or deliver information before personnel reach a scene, but humans still have to interpret that information and decide what to do.
What the drones do
The original BRINC product discussed by GeekWire was the Lemur. The profile described a drone designed for difficult indoor environments, including features such as crash recovery, low-light operation, two-way microphone communication, lidar-assisted navigation, and an attachment capable of breaking glass.
Each capability addresses a particular problem:
- Crash recovery: A drone that can recover or flip after a collision may remain useful in a tight building where walls, furniture, and doorways make impacts likely.
- Low-light imaging: Nighttime, power loss, smoke, and dark interiors can make ordinary visual inspection difficult.
- Two-way communication: An operator may be able to issue instructions, support de-escalation, or communicate with someone who is sheltering inside.
- Glass-breaking equipment: Access through a window can provide another route for observation, but it also creates safety, liability, and tactical questions.
- Lidar-based navigation: Mapping and navigation that do not rely exclusively on GPS can be useful indoors, underground, or in other GPS-denied environments.
These are not universal features of every BRINC model or configuration. Capabilities depend on the aircraft, attachment, software, communications network, and operating conditions. Battery life, weather, smoke, dust, wireless coverage, obstacles, and human approval can all limit what a drone accomplishes in practice.
How BRINC got its first traction
According to the 2022 profile, Resnick spent roughly three years testing and refining BRINC’s technology with SWAT officers. A prototype was eventually used by Las Vegas police. That sequence is important because it suggests BRINC’s early product development was shaped by first-responder feedback rather than by consumer enthusiasm alone.

The company’s early strategy focused on a narrow, high-consequence use case: allowing responders to inspect or communicate within dangerous spaces without immediately sending a person inside. The Seattle Police Department was identified as a customer in the original coverage, including use during a hostage negotiation. The article also referenced applications in Ukraine and damage inspection after the Surfside condominium collapse.

Those examples should not automatically be treated as proof of routine deployment or measurable safety improvements. The available material does not establish the first paid contract value, revenue history, renewal rates, or the number of agencies using BRINC equipment regularly rather than during a pilot, demonstration, donation, or occasional incident.
Why BRINC moved from Las Vegas to Seattle
Resnick’s stated reason for moving BRINC’s headquarters was access to Seattle’s engineering and technology talent. That explanation also fit the region’s aerospace, robotics, software, and hardware ecosystem.
In 2022, the move looked primarily like a recruiting decision. By 2026, company announcements suggest Seattle had become more than a corporate address. BRINC says it has kept engineering and production co-located and opened a new Seattle factory. That points to a strategy built around domestic manufacturing, faster hardware iteration, and tighter coordination between designers and the production line.
In a 2023 corporate update, BRINC described manufacturing and product development activities in Seattle and said it had doubled its research-and-development department. In March 2026, the company said its new factory more than doubled its previous production footprint. It also claimed that 2025 revenue had more than tripled and monthly production capacity had increased fivefold.
Those are company-reported figures. Increased capacity is not the same as increased sales or active deployments: a manufacturer can expand production capability before customer demand fully arrives.

The “Wall of Drones” controversy
A complete profile of Resnick cannot omit BRINC’s most troubling early episode. The 2022 GeekWire story discussed a 2018 video depicting a proposed “Wall of Drones” at the U.S.-Mexico border, including imagery of a drone tasing a person.
Resnick later said the technology was never created, described the video as staged, and characterized the concept and presentation as immature and offensive. He said the backlash helped shape BRINC’s later stated commitment not to build technologies designed to hurt or kill.
That explanation separates an abandoned concept from the products BRINC says it actually built. It does not, by itself, settle questions about governance or ethical performance. A responsible evaluation would also ask how the company vets customers, what restrictions apply to product features, how flights and recordings are audited, and what safeguards prevent misuse. A values statement is useful context, but it is not conclusive evidence of conduct.

A DFR program generally follows this pattern:
- A 911 call or emergency alert triggers a launch request.
- A drone travels to the scene before or alongside human responders.
- An operator transmits video, audio, and other information to a dispatch or command center.
- Responders use that information to prioritize the call, plan an approach, communicate, or decide whether immediate intervention is necessary.
BRINC has said DFR systems could potentially cut average response times “in half or more.” That is a company projection, not a universal independently measured result. Actual performance depends on where charging stations are placed, whether airspace approvals are in place, how quickly a remote pilot can launch, the quality of dispatch integration, and whether weather or communications disrupts the mission.
Agencies also need trained personnel, maintenance plans, evidence-retention procedures, cybersecurity controls, and policies for flights over private property. FAA rules and waiver requirements can affect beyond-visual-line-of-sight operations. A drone may not be legally or operationally able to enter a building, cross every property boundary, record every bystander, or continue flying when a human operator loses communications.
Funding and the Motorola relationship
GeekWire reported that BRINC had raised more than $27 million by April 2022 from investors including Index Ventures, Tusk Venture Partners, Next Play Ventures, and Sam Altman through OpenAI’s startup investment program. It also reported that Altman was BRINC’s first external investor.

BRINC’s later financing announcements describe a much larger capital base:
- April 8, 2025: BRINC announced a $75 million round led by Index Ventures, with Motorola Solutions participating.
- July 14, 2026: BRINC announced a $125 million round led by Motorola Solutions, with participation from Index Ventures and Dylan Field.
- By July 2026: BRINC said its total capital raised had exceeded $250 million.
The announcements are available through BRINC’s 2025 financing release and its 2026 financing release. They establish announced financing, not an independently audited valuation, profitability figure, or guarantee that all funds have already been deployed.
Motorola’s investment and strategic relationship may help BRINC connect its drones with a broader public-safety communications and software ecosystem. The available announcements do not establish that Motorola acquired BRINC, that the relationship is exclusive, or that it guarantees distribution.

In 2025, BRINC said more than 600 public-safety agencies and over 10% of U.S. SWAT teams used its products. The wording matters: “used” should not automatically be interpreted as routine, paid, active deployment. The company’s announcement does not provide independently verified agency-level usage data.
In March 2026, BRINC announced its Guardian 911-response drone, describing rapid autonomous deployment, imaging, and satellite connectivity through Starlink. “Autonomous” can refer to particular functions such as launch, navigation, or return-to-base; it should not be read as proof that the entire emergency mission occurs without human oversight.

The questions that will determine whether the business lasts
BRINC’s technology has a clear appeal for public agencies: earlier situational awareness, potentially less exposure for emergency workers, access to dangerous spaces, and a domestic supplier combining hardware with software and communications.
But the business must overcome several practical obstacles:
- Acquisition, subscription, staffing, and maintenance costs;
- FAA compliance and airspace coordination;
- Battery, weather, range, and connectivity limitations;
- Collisions, navigation errors, and incomplete imagery;
- Cybersecurity and unauthorized access to recordings;
- Evidence-chain and public-records requirements;
- Privacy rules, retention periods, and community consent;
- Potential public resistance to persistent police surveillance; and
- The difficulty of proving that drones improve outcomes rather than simply adding another video feed.
The most useful evidence will come from agency-level results: response times, successful interventions, false alarms, costs per deployment, retention rates, community complaints, and documented safety outcomes. Financing and factory expansion show that investors are backing the opportunity. They do not yet answer whether every agency should deploy the system or whether the technology consistently performs under emergency conditions.

Bottom line
Blake Resnick’s story has moved beyond the novelty of a 22-year-old engineer relocating a drone startup to Seattle. BRINC is now presenting itself as a heavily financed public-safety manufacturer, with Seattle serving as an engineering and production base and Motorola Solutions as a major strategic investor.
The company’s durable test is operational, not biographical: whether its drones can deliver reliable information, within legal and ethical limits, at a cost agencies can sustain. BRINC’s growth makes that question more important—not less.
