Mac Computers 2026: Best Sale Prices, Deals & Discounts

The best current Mac deal is the 13-inch M5 MacBook Air with 16GB/512GB for $1,199, while students may do better through Apple Education. Compare current prices, historical lows, refurbished options, desktop setup costs, warranties, and return risks after Apple’s June 2026 price increases.

U.S. Mac deals checked August 10, 2026: The best confirmed mainstream laptop deal is the 13-inch MacBook Air M5 with 16GB memory and 512GB storage for $1,199 at Best Buy. The strongest confirmed MacBook Pro offer is a 14-inch M5 model with 16GB memory and 1TB storage for $1,849. Qualified students and educators can do better through Apple Education if they will use the promotional Apple Gift Card: the Air starts at $1,199 with a $100 card, and the Pro starts at $1,899 with a $150 card.

The lowest-cost new consumer Mac is the $699 MacBook Neo. A $599 Neo is available in the Apple Education store and was also listed in Apple Certified Refurbished inventory, but it is not the regular new-retail price. All prices below are U.S. prices before tax, and retailer stock can change quickly.

Quick answer: the best Mac deals right now

Apple increased U.S. Mac prices on June 25, 2026, so a good deal must be measured against both the current Apple price and the older prices buyers may still remember. The table below uses the exact configurations identified in the current research snapshot rather than comparing vague product names such as MacBook Air or MacBook Pro.

Best for Exact Mac and condition Observed price Current Apple price Current savings Status and qualification
Lowest new Mac for general buyers MacBook Neo, 8GB/256GB $699 $699 — New consumer starting price; entry-level hardware.
Lowest Neo price Apple Certified Refurbished MacBook Neo, 256GB $599 $699 new $100 Reported listed price; stock and colors are configuration-dependent. Includes Apple’s one-year limited warranty.
Best everyday laptop for most buyers 13-inch MacBook Air M5, 16GB/512GB $1,199 $1,299 $100 New Best Buy listing observed at this price; verify seller and inventory at checkout.
Best qualified-student Air deal 13-inch MacBook Air through Apple Education $1,199 plus a $100 Apple Gift Card $1,299 $100 future Apple credit Effective $1,099 only if the buyer qualifies and will use the card later.
Best current Pro deal 14-inch MacBook Pro M5, 16GB/1TB $1,849 $1,999 $150 Confirmed in the Best Buy M5 promotion snapshot; availability may change.
Best qualified-student Pro deal MacBook Pro through Apple Education From $1,899 plus a $150 Apple Gift Card $1,999 $150 future Apple credit Effective $1,749 for a qualified buyer who uses the card. Promotion ends August 27, 2026, while supplies last.
Best official refurbished Air 13-inch MacBook Air M5, 16GB/512GB $1,099 $1,299 new $200 Reported Apple Certified Refurbished price; confirm that the exact configuration remains available.
Best large-screen refurbished Air 15-inch MacBook Air M5, 16GB/512GB $1,269 About $1,499 comparable new price $230 reported Apple refurbished price reported by TechRadar; inventory can disappear.
Lowest-cost desktop lead M4 Mac mini, 16GB/256GB $599 listed at B&H $799 current starting price $200 if available Macworld comparison-table lead, not a guarantee of in-stock inventory. Requires peripherals.
Best all-in-one value Certified Refurbished 24-inch M4 iMac, 8-core/256GB From $1,289 $1,499 new iMac starting price $210 Reported Apple refurbished listing; includes the built-in display and Apple warranty.
High-end desktop bargain if restocked Mac Studio M4 Max, 512GB $1,999 $2,499 $500 Listed by Best Buy but sold out in the snapshot; not an actionable deal unless stock returns.

Best overall recommendation: For most people who can spend about $1,200, choose the 13-inch M5 MacBook Air with 16GB/512GB rather than the cheaper Neo. The Air’s 16GB starting memory, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, MagSafe charging, support for two external displays, and longer claimed battery life give it substantially more headroom for school, work, and several years of use. The $699 Neo remains reasonable for basic web use, writing, streaming, and light schoolwork.

Apple’s June 2026 Mac price increase changes the meaning of a deal

Apple’s current U.S. consumer prices are listed on its Buy Mac page. MacRumors reported the June 25 price changes and the former prices. The older figures are useful context, but they are not current Apple checkout prices.

Mac Former price Current consumer starting price Increase
MacBook Neo $599 $699 $100
MacBook Air $1,099 $1,299 $200
MacBook Pro $1,699 $1,999 $300
iMac $1,299 $1,499 $200
Mac mini M4 Pro $1,399 $1,599 $200
Mac Studio M4 Max $1,999 $2,499 $500

This creates two different ways to describe the same sale. A $1,199 Air is $100 below today’s Apple price, but it is also $100 more than Apple’s former $1,099 price. Both statements are true. The current-price comparison tells you how much the retailer beats Apple today; the historical comparison tells you whether the deal is close to the unusually low prices previously available.

The 13-inch M5 Air was reported at $899.99 in May and $949 during Prime Day. Those are historical lows, not prices that should be treated as available on August 10. A buyer who needs a Mac now should judge the current $1,199 price against the $1,299 Apple price, the exact configuration, and the return protection—not assume that a past sale will immediately return. See the historical reporting from MacRumors and MacRumors’ Prime Day coverage for context.

Current Apple Education prices and the back-to-school promotion

Apple’s U.S. Education store currently lists lower starting prices for eligible purchasers. The regular Education prices are:

Model Consumer starting price Education starting price
MacBook Neo $699 $599
MacBook Air $1,299 $1,199
MacBook Pro $1,999 $1,899
iMac $1,499 $1,449
Mac mini $799 $699
Mac Studio $2,499 $2,299

Apple’s current back-to-school offer runs from July 16 through August 27, 2026, while supplies last. It applies to eligible MacBook Air and MacBook Pro purchases, not the MacBook Neo or desktop Macs. A qualified buyer receives a $100 Apple Gift Card with an eligible Air or a $150 Apple Gift Card with an eligible Pro. Review Apple’s official promotion terms before ordering because eligibility, qualifying configurations, and return rules matter.

How to calculate the real Education price

The Air’s advertised Education price is $1,199, not $1,099 at checkout. The $1,099 figure is an effective price calculated as $1,199 minus a $100 future Apple Gift Card. Likewise, the Pro’s effective price is $1,749 only for someone who pays $1,899, receives the $150 card, and would otherwise spend that card’s full value on a future Apple purchase.

The gift card is not cash, cannot be used to reduce the initial charge, and should not be counted as savings if you do not shop with Apple. Under the offer terms, returning the Mac can require the gift card to be returned or its full value to be deducted from the refund. Do not spend the card before you are certain you will keep the computer.

For a qualified student or educator, Apple Education is especially competitive:

  • The Air’s effective $1,099 cost is $100 below the current $1,199 Best Buy cash price, assuming the Apple credit is fully useful to you.
  • The Pro’s effective $1,749 cost is $100 below the $1,849 Best Buy price on the current snapshot, again assuming the credit will be used.
  • The Apple Education Neo at $599 is the lowest upfront price for a new Neo, but it does not receive the separate Air or Pro gift-card promotion.
  • The Education discounts on the iMac, Mac mini, and Mac Studio are direct price reductions rather than the back-to-school gift-card offer described above.

Best MacBook Neo deals

Best price: $599 Education or Apple Certified Refurbished; $699 new consumer

The MacBook Neo is Apple’s entry-level 2026 laptop. The ordinary new-consumer price starts at $699. Eligible Education shoppers can buy one from $599, and a 256GB Apple Certified Refurbished Neo was listed at $599 in the research snapshot. The refurbished price is not a universal new-retail price and may disappear when Apple’s inventory changes.

The Neo uses an Apple A18 Pro chip with a 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine. Its 13-inch display has a 2408-by-1506 resolution at 219 pixels per inch. Apple rates it for up to 16 hours of video streaming or 11 hours of wireless web use, although actual battery life varies with applications, brightness, wireless activity, and workload. Its memory is fixed at 8GB for buying purposes, with 256GB or 512GB SSD options; Apple’s specifications do not list user-upgradable memory or storage.

  • FAST RUNS IN THE FAMILY — The 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 Pro or M5 Max chip brings next-generation speed and powerful on-device AI to personal, professional, and creative tasks. Connectivity is a significant part of the price difference. The Neo has one USB 3 USB-C port, one USB 2 USB-C port, and a headphone jack. It supports one external display up to 4K at 60Hz. That is enough for a simple portable setup, but it is less flexible than the Air for docks, multiple monitors, fast peripherals, or a large number of simultaneous applications.

Who should buy the Neo?

Buy the Neo at $599 to $699 if the budget is firm and your work consists mainly of browser tabs, email, documents, video calls, streaming, basic research, and light schoolwork. It is also a sensible inexpensive family or secondary computer when a buyer understands the limitations.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Spend more on the Air if you expect to keep the laptop for several years, use many demanding browser tabs, run development tools or virtual machines, edit large creative projects, use two external displays, or routinely work with large files. The Air starts with twice the unified memory and more capable connectivity. The $500-or-more gap is not merely paying for a faster chip; it is also buying additional memory headroom, ports, display flexibility, and a stronger long-term configuration.

Best MacBook Air deals

Best everyday configuration: 13-inch M5, 16GB/512GB for $1,199

The strongest mainstream deal found was a new 13-inch MacBook Air with the M5 chip, 16GB unified memory, and 512GB SSD for $1,199 at Best Buy. That is $100 below Apple’s current $1,299 comparable starting price. Confirm the seller, exact SKU, condition, and stock at checkout because retailer product pages can change and a “more buying options” result may refer to a marketplace or open-box unit.

The base 13-inch configuration uses an M5 with a 10-core CPU and 8-core GPU, a 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display, 16GB memory, and 512GB storage. It has two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, MagSafe 3, and a headphone jack. Apple says it supports up to two external displays and estimates up to 18 hours of video streaming or 15 hours of wireless web use under its test conditions. Those are Apple test estimates, not a guarantee of real-world battery life.

For most buyers, this is a better value than the Neo and a more appropriate purchase than the Pro. The Air is thin, silent, starts at a more useful memory capacity, and is powerful enough for ordinary office work, school, coding, photo work, and many creative workflows. A Pro becomes worthwhile when sustained heavy workloads, a brighter 120Hz display, more ports, active cooling, or higher-tier chips are central to the job.

13-inch versus 15-inch Air

The 13-inch model is the better default for students and commuters because it is smaller and generally easier to carry. The 15-inch Air is the better choice for spreadsheets, split-screen work, timelines, and anyone who values a larger workspace more than minimum weight. The 15-inch M5 configurations listed by Apple use a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU, start with 16GB memory and 512GB storage, and have the same two Thunderbolt 4 ports, MagSafe 3, and headphone jack. Apple also rates the 15-inch model for up to 18 hours of video streaming.

An Apple Certified Refurbished 15-inch M5 Air with 16GB/512GB was reported at $1,269, about $230 below its comparable new price. That is a particularly attractive option if the larger display matters, but verify the exact memory, storage, chip, and cosmetic condition before paying.

Refurbished 13-inch Air: $1,099

Apple’s official refurbished 13-inch M5 Air with 16GB/512GB was reported at $1,099, or $200 below the current new price. It is a better refurbished target than a lower-memory configuration because it preserves the Air’s 16GB starting memory and useful 512GB storage. Inventory is not guaranteed; use the Apple Certified Refurbished explanation to understand the testing and warranty, and verify the actual listing before ordering.

Historical Air prices versus current prices

At $1,199, the current Best Buy offer is a real $100 discount from today’s Apple price, but it is not close to the $899.99 May low or $949 Prime Day price reported earlier in 2026. Waiting is reasonable if your current computer works, you are shopping for a nonessential upgrade, and you are unwilling to pay more than a modest historical premium. Buying now is reasonable if you need the laptop, the exact 16GB/512GB configuration is available, and the retailer’s return and warranty terms are acceptable.

Do not downgrade to 8GB memory or a smaller SSD merely to make a sale percentage look larger. A discount on the wrong configuration is often more expensive than paying a little more for the model you will actually keep.

Best MacBook Pro deals

Best confirmed Pro offer: 14-inch M5, 16GB/1TB for $1,849

The best current Pro opportunity identified was a 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5, 16GB unified memory, and 1TB storage for $1,849 at Best Buy. That is $150 below Apple’s current $1,999 starting price. Best Buy’s M5 MacBook Pro promotion page is the most direct source for the snapshot. Amazon was reported at approximately $1,847.50 on August 7, but Amazon prices and sellers are particularly volatile, so the exact checkout price and seller must be confirmed.

The 14-inch M5 Pro has a Liquid Retina XDR display with ProMotion up to 120Hz. Apple lists up to 24 hours of video streaming for the 14-inch M5 model. M5 Pro and M5 Max configurations add higher CPU and GPU options and Thunderbolt 5. These features are useful for sustained professional work, but they do not automatically make a Pro a better financial choice for email, documents, web browsing, and ordinary coursework.

When the Pro is worth paying for

Choose the Pro when your workload justifies its display, cooling, ports, battery capacity, or higher-tier silicon. Good examples include sustained video production, professional software development, 3D work, demanding music production, large photo or design projects, and other workloads that keep the machine busy for long periods.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a student writing papers, attending classes, browsing, and using standard productivity applications, the Air’s lower price and lighter design usually make more financial sense. The Pro’s extra capability is valuable only when it will be used; otherwise, the money may be better spent on storage, accessories, or a longer replacement cycle.

14-inch versus 16-inch Pro

The 14-inch model is the more portable Pro and has the strongest current sale identified here. The 16-inch range uses M5 Pro or M5 Max and starts with 24GB unified memory and a 1TB SSD in Apple’s listed configurations. It is aimed at buyers who need a larger built-in display, more memory, and higher sustained performance rather than the lowest Pro price.

No specific live 16-inch sale was confirmed in this research. Compare the exact chip, GPU core count, memory, storage, seller, warranty, and return period before treating a large advertised discount as a bargain.

Best desktop Mac deals

Mac mini: lowest computer price, but not necessarily lowest setup cost

The current Mac mini uses M4 or M4 Pro. Apple’s consumer lineup starts the Mac mini at $799, while the Education store starts it at $699. Macworld listed an M4 Mac mini with 16GB memory and 256GB SSD at $599 through B&H. Treat that $599 figure as a lead from a comparison page rather than a guaranteed in-stock deal.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Mac mini does not include a display, keyboard, or mouse. A first-time desktop buyer must calculate:

Complete setup cost = Mac mini + monitor + keyboard + mouse or trackpad + any required hub, webcam, speakers, adapters, or external storage.

  • FAST RUNS IN THE FAMILY — The 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 Pro or M5 Max chip brings next-generation speed and powerful on-device AI to personal, professional, and creative tasks. If you already own compatible peripherals, the $599 or $699 mini can be an excellent low-cost desktop. If you need everything, compare the complete cart against an iMac rather than claiming that the mini is automatically cheaper. The mini also makes sense for buyers who want to choose their own monitor or replace the computer without replacing the display.

iMac: best all-in-one value

The current iMac is a 24-inch all-in-one using the M4 chip. It includes a 4.5K Retina display, a 12MP Center Stage camera, and color-matched accessories in applicable configurations. Apple lists up to a 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 32GB unified memory, and 2TB storage depending on configuration. The actual display diagonal is 23.5 inches.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Apple’s refurbished store was reported to have an 8-core/256GB Certified Refurbished iMac from $1,289. Against the $1,499 new starting price, that is a reported $210 saving while retaining the value of the built-in display and core accessories. It is a good choice for a family computer, home office, or student who wants a ready-to-use desktop and does not already own peripherals.

Choose the mini instead when you have a monitor and accessories, want a different display, or expect to upgrade the computer separately. Choose the iMac when the 4.5K screen, speakers, camera, keyboard, and mouse make the higher complete-system price worthwhile.

Mac Studio: powerful, but the best observed price was sold out

Apple lists the Mac Studio from $2,499. Current configurations use M4 Max or M3 Ultra, and the computer does not include a display, keyboard, or mouse. Best Buy showed an M4 Max, 512GB listing at $1,999, which would be a substantial $500 reduction from Apple’s current price, but the listing was sold out in the research snapshot.

That makes the Studio a watch item, not a current actionable deal. Do not budget around a sold-out or cached price. If it returns, confirm that it is new stock rather than open-box or marketplace inventory and calculate the cost of the display and peripherals as well.

New, Certified Refurbished, and open-box Macs

Apple Certified Refurbished

Apple says its Certified Refurbished products receive full functional testing, use genuine replacement parts as needed, include accessories and operating systems, and carry a standard one-year limited warranty. Apple advertises savings of up to 15%, although the actual dollar discount varies by model and configuration.

Official refurbished stock is worth considering when the exact model has the memory and storage you need and the price is meaningfully below new retail. The $1,099 13-inch Air, $1,269 15-inch Air, $599 Neo, and $1,289 iMac are the strongest refurbished opportunities identified in this snapshot. The principal risk is availability: a particular color or configuration may disappear before you complete the purchase.

“Refurbished” does not mean the item is guaranteed to be cosmetically indistinguishable from new. It means Apple has applied its stated refurbishment process and warranty. Read the product listing, confirm the return terms, and inspect the computer when it arrives.

Open-box and marketplace listings

An open-box Mac can be worthwhile when the discount is large enough to compensate for inspection and return risk. Best Buy’s current policy generally gives standard customers 15 days to return most products, while My Best Buy Plus and Total members generally receive 60 days for most products. Product-specific exclusions and marketplace terms can differ, so check the policy attached to the actual order.

Before keeping an open-box Mac, verify:

  • Battery health and cycle count.
  • That Activation Lock is disabled and the previous Apple ID has been removed.
  • The correct chip, GPU core count, memory, and storage.
  • Display condition, including scratches, pressure marks, and dead pixels.
  • Keyboard, trackpad, camera, speakers, charging, and every port.
  • That the original power adapter and expected accessories are included.
  • Apple warranty status and whether AppleCare eligibility remains.
  • The exact deadline and method for returning the item.

Be especially cautious with listings sold by marketplace sellers or third-party “renewed” programs. Identify the seller, battery condition, warranty provider, return window, activation-lock status, and included charger before comparing the price with Apple Certified Refurbished stock.

Apple Trade In: useful credit, not an instant discount

Apple Trade In provides an online estimate or an in-store evaluation. The value depends on the old device’s model and condition. Apple says the device generally must be received within 14 days of the new device and can be revalued after inspection.

Do not subtract the headline trade-in estimate from the Mac price as though it were guaranteed cash. Trade-in value is conditional, may be revised, and may be issued as Apple credit rather than cash. Selling privately may produce more money, but it adds listing, payment, shipping, fraud, and buyer-dispute risk. If using Trade In, photograph the device’s condition, back up and erase it properly, and retain shipping or handoff records.

Should you buy now or wait?

There is no reliable blanket answer because the June price increase has created an unusual gap between Apple’s current prices and some older retailer inventory. That gap may disappear as retailers replenish stock, but predicting the next sale is not dependable.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Buy now when:

  • You need the computer and the exact desired configuration is in stock.
  • The price is materially below Apple’s post-increase MSRP, such as $1,199 for the 16GB/512GB Air or $1,849 for the 16GB/1TB 14-inch Pro.
  • You have checked the seller, warranty, return deadline, and delivery date.
  • A qualified Education buyer will genuinely use the Apple Gift Card.
  • A Certified Refurbished Mac saves enough to justify accepting prior ownership.

Wait when:

  • The discount is only $50 to $100 and your existing computer is adequate.
  • The listing is open-box, marketplace, location-dependent, or unclear about warranty coverage.
  • The exact configuration is unavailable and the advertised price appears to be a stale comparison-table entry.
  • The deal requires compromising on memory or storage that you will need throughout the Mac’s useful life.
  • You are considering a sold-out Mac mini or Mac Studio price as though it were currently purchasable.

The $1,199 Air is a credible current buy, but it is not a historical low. The $1,849 Pro is stronger against the current MSRP, while the Education Pro’s effective $1,749 value is better for qualified buyers who will spend the gift card. These are editorial judgments based on the prices and availability checked on August 10, not forecasts of future sales.

How to verify a Mac deal before paying

  1. Identify the exact model. Confirm screen size, model year, chip family, and whether it is an Air, Pro, Neo, mini, iMac, or Studio.
  2. Check the CPU and GPU configuration. A 13-inch M5 Air can appear with an 8-core GPU, while listed 15-inch configurations use a 10-core GPU. Do not compare them as identical solely because both are called M5 Air.
  3. Confirm unified memory. The Neo has 8GB; the Air starts at 16GB. Memory is not a minor specification when comparing long-term value.
  4. Confirm SSD capacity. Check whether the listing is 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or another capacity.
  5. Confirm condition. Make sure the price is for new, Certified Refurbished, open-box, pre-owned, clearance, or marketplace stock as stated.
  6. Confirm the seller. On retailer sites, “more buying options” may not mean the retailer itself is selling the unit.
  7. Check warranty coverage. Apple Certified Refurbished Macs include Apple’s standard one-year limited warranty; third-party listings may not.
  8. Read the return policy. Pay attention to the deadline, restocking or shipping rules, marketplace exclusions, and whether opened products are covered.
  9. Check stock and delivery. A low price on a sold-out or unavailable listing is not a deal you can buy.
  10. Calculate the complete cost. Add sales tax, AppleCare if desired, accessories, monitor costs, adapters, and external storage. A desktop Mac requires more components than a laptop.
  11. Separate instant savings from future credit. An Apple Gift Card is not the same as a price reduction or cash rebate.
  12. Save unusually low-price evidence. Keep a screenshot, order confirmation, or receipt showing the configuration and price in case the listing changes.

Best Mac by budget and buyer

Budget or buyer Recommended choice Why Main caution
Under $700 MacBook Neo at $699 new, or $599 Education/Certified Refurbished if eligible or available Lowest entry price for a current Mac laptop. 8GB memory, limited ports, and one-display support.
About $1,100 Certified Refurbished 13-inch M5 Air at reported $1,099, or Education Air at $1,199 with a $100 card 16GB/512GB Air configuration provides stronger long-term value than the Neo. Refurbished inventory is limited; Education savings depend on using future Apple credit.
$1,200 to $1,500 New 13-inch M5 Air at $1,199; 15-inch refurbished Air at reported $1,269; iMac options around $1,289 refurbished Best range for everyday laptops or a complete all-in-one desktop. Compare screen size and complete desktop setup costs.
About $1,850 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro, 16GB/1TB at $1,849 Strongest confirmed current Pro retailer price. Check that the exact SKU is new and sold by the stated retailer.
Qualified student or educator Education Air or Pro promotion through August 27, 2026 Effective $1,099 Air or $1,749 Pro if the gift card will be used. Gift card is future Apple spending and can affect a return refund.
Desktop buyer with peripherals M4 Mac mini, especially a genuinely available $599 listing Low computer price and freedom to choose a display. Add the monitor, input devices, hub, webcam, and other accessories.
Desktop buyer wanting an all-in-one Certified Refurbished M4 iMac from reported $1,289 Includes the 4.5K display and core accessories. Less flexible than a mini-plus-monitor setup.
$2,000-plus professional desktop budget Mac Studio M4 Max only if a live price near $1,999 returns, otherwise compare current $2,499 pricing High-end performance and connectivity. The $1,999 listing was sold out and the Studio still needs a display and peripherals.

Mac specifications that matter when comparing deals

Use Apple’s official MacBook Air specifications, MacBook Neo specifications, MacBook Pro specifications, iMac specifications, and current Mac lineup page to validate a listing. The most important distinctions are:

  • MacBook Air: M5, 16GB/512GB starting configuration, 13.6-inch or 15.3-inch display, up to two external displays, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, MagSafe 3, and Apple battery estimates of up to 18 hours of video streaming.
  • MacBook Neo: A18 Pro, fixed-for-buying 8GB memory, 256GB or 512GB storage, two USB-C ports with different USB speeds, one external display, and Apple estimates of up to 16 hours of video streaming.
  • MacBook Pro: 14-inch M5 models have Liquid Retina XDR and ProMotion up to 120Hz; M5 Pro and M5 Max models add higher-tier CPU/GPU options and Thunderbolt 5. The listed 16-inch range starts at 24GB memory and 1TB storage.
  • iMac: M4 all-in-one with a 4.5K Retina display, 12MP Center Stage camera, and included color-matched accessories in applicable configurations.
  • Mac mini: M4 or M4 Pro desktop that requires a separate display and input devices.
  • Mac Studio: M4 Max or M3 Ultra desktop for demanding workloads that also requires a display and peripherals.

Bottom line

For most U.S. buyers, the best current Mac deal is the 13-inch M5 MacBook Air with 16GB memory and 512GB storage at $1,199, provided the exact Best Buy listing remains available and is sold under acceptable return and warranty terms. It costs more than the Neo but avoids the Neo’s 8GB memory and limited-display limitations.

The MacBook Neo at $699 is the cheapest new consumer Mac and the $599 Education or Certified Refurbished Neo is the lowest price found, but both are best reserved for basic use. Qualified students and educators should compare Apple Education first: its gift-card-adjusted Air and Pro prices can beat current retailer prices, but only when future Apple credit has real value to the buyer.

For professional workloads, the $1,849 14-inch MacBook Pro is the strongest confirmed retailer offer. For desktops, buy the Mac mini only after adding peripherals to the budget, choose the refurbished iMac when the integrated 4.5K display is valuable, and treat the $1,999 Mac Studio listing as unavailable until it is actually back in stock.

The Bottom Line

Best overall: 13-inch M5 MacBook Air, 16GB/512GB, for $1,199 at Best Buy if the price and exact configuration are still available. Best student deal: Apple Education Air at $1,199 plus a $100 Apple Gift Card, or Pro at $1,899 plus a $150 card, with the effective price depending on future Apple spending. Cheapest: $699 new MacBook Neo, or $599 through Education or Apple Certified Refurbished inventory. Compare the configuration, seller, warranty, return policy, and complete setup cost—not just the advertised discount.
