Interactive Brokers’ announcement was made on June 13, 2023—not recently—and it covered two separate developments: share trading on Nasdaq Copenhagen and the Prague Stock Exchange, plus fractional trading for eligible Nasdaq Copenhagen shares.
That distinction matters. The announcement did not say that Prague-listed shares could be bought fractionally, nor that every security listed in Copenhagen or Prague became available to every IBKR account. Access still depends on the specific stock, account, residency, financial profile, trading permissions, and market-data setup.
What Interactive Brokers actually added
IBKR announced access to Nasdaq Copenhagen and the Prague Stock Exchange for share trading. It also said that fractional trading was available for eligible Nasdaq Copenhagen shares.
The announcement did not cover options, futures, or every product listed on either exchange. It also did not announce fractional trading for Prague-listed shares. A Prague stock may be tradable as a whole share without being eligible for a cash-amount or fractional order.

IBKR described the service as available to clients worldwide, but “worldwide” does not override account-level restrictions. A client may still need the relevant country or exchange permission, and some accounts or residents are excluded from fractional trading.
Use the right exchange codes
IBKR’s current materials identify Nasdaq Copenhagen as CPH. The Prague Stock Exchange is identified as PRA in the current commission and pass-through-fee pages.
Do not rely on “PSE” as a Prague search term. IBKR also uses PSE for a separate Pacific Stock Exchange page. When placing an order, confirm the full exchange name shown in the contract or order ticket: Prague Stock Exchange / PRA.
Current commissions
The 2023 announcement quoted introductory pricing, but the current schedule is the better source for estimating transaction costs. The amount you pay can also include exchange, regulatory, clearing, or other third-party charges.

For fractional-share orders, IBKR’s current page lists 0.05% under tiered pricing with a DKK 10 minimum. Small orders can therefore be dominated by the minimum commission. For example, a DKK 500 order at 0.05% would produce a calculated commission of only DKK 0.25, so the DKK 10 minimum would apply before any other charges.
This is different from the 2023 announcement’s reference to a DKK 49 fixed-pricing minimum. The current schedule separates fixed SmartRouting, at DKK 49, from fixed direct routing, at DKK 65.
Prague Stock Exchange
IBKR currently lists Prague as fixed pricing only:
- Commission: 0.15% of trade value
- Minimum: CZK 70 per order
- Tiered pricing: Not available
- Third-party fees: Passed through
There is also a separate Prague clearing fee of 0.05% per year of the position value for CZK-denominated stocks held in the account. IBKR calculates this daily. This is a holding-related charge, not simply another commission charged when you buy or sell.

How to enable fractional trading
In the current Client Portal, the permission is called Global (Trade in Fractions). The menu path is:

- Select Settings.
- Select Trading.
- Open Trading Permissions.
- Under Stocks, select Add/Edit.
- Check Global (Trade in Fractions).
- Select Continue.
- Review and accept the disclosures, then select Continue again.
Older instructions may refer to United States (Trade in Fractions). That is not the current Client Portal label.
Adding the permission does not make every stock fractional-eligible. Both the account and the individual security must qualify. If the toggle is missing, possible explanations include residency, account structure, or another IBKR eligibility restriction. Paper-trading users also cannot add permissions from inside IBKR Desktop.
How to place a fractional order in Client Portal
Open the order ticket through Trade > Order Ticket, or through Menu > Trade > Order Ticket.
- Search for the stock symbol.
- Select the stock and verify the exchange. For Copenhagen, confirm CPH; for Prague, confirm PRA.
- Select Buy Order or Sell Order.
- Enter the quantity. For a supported fractional security, the order can be based on a cash amount rather than a whole number of shares.
- Select the order type, such as market or limit.
- Enter a limit price if the selected order type requires one.
- Review the time-in-force setting.
- Select Preview or Submit.
The cash amount is converted into an estimated share quantity. The final number of shares can differ because the price may move before execution.
Entering a cash amount in Trader Workstation
In Trader Workstation, open the Mosaic Order Entry panel or a classic order line. Then:
- Click the Quantity field to open the Size Wand.
- Switch the setting from Shares to USD or the relevant trading currency.
- Enter the cash amount.
- Set the order type, price, and time in force.
- Submit the order after reviewing the estimated quantity and costs.
TWS uses a Cash Quantity Estimate Factor to allow for possible price movement. The default is 25%. You can change it at Global Configuration > Presets > Stocks > Size.

Cash-quantity stock orders are available in all currencies and most order types, but availability still depends on the stock and account. A displayed share equivalent is an estimate, not a guarantee that the order will fill at that quantity.
Fractional orders are Smart-routed
IBKR lists fractional trading on Trader Workstation, IBKR Desktop, IBKR Mobile, and Client Portal. Fractional-share orders are Smart-routed rather than directed by the customer to a selected public exchange.

That makes a fractional order operationally different from an ordinary whole-share order sent directly to an exchange order book. IBKR’s fractional execution process handles the fractional component, while the whole-share component may be handled separately under IBKR’s execution arrangements.
This is one reason not to assume that fractional ownership has exactly the same execution mechanics or rights as a conventional exchange-listed whole share.
Eligibility and important limitations
Fractional trading is limited to eligible stocks and ETFs. It is not automatically available for every security on every supported exchange.
IBKR’s fact sheet reported 24,047 eligible U.S., Canadian, or European stocks and ETFs, where available, as of July 23, 2026. That figure is dated and can change as IBKR adds or removes eligible instruments. It should not be read as a guarantee that a particular Copenhagen or Prague listing qualifies.

The current minimum for a non-recurring fractional-share trade is listed as USD 0.01. Currency conversion and applicable commissions can still make very small trades uneconomical.

The exchange appears, but the order cannot be submitted
An order ticket can show exchange choices that your account cannot use. IBKR allows submission only to exchanges for which the account has the required trading permissions. Check the relevant country or market permission under Settings > Trading > Trading Permissions. An incomplete financial profile or a pending permission request can also block the order.
Fractional trading is enabled, but the stock rejects the order
The global permission is only one condition. The particular stock must support fractions, and your account and residency must be eligible. A Prague stock being available for whole-share trading does not prove that it supports fractional orders.
A limit order does not fill even though a whole-share order might have filled
IBKR discloses that an unmarketable limit order with a fractional component may not execute until it becomes marketable. As a result, the fractional part can remain unfilled even when a whole-share order might have executed earlier.
You cannot transfer the fractional holding to another broker
IBKR’s customer-agreement summary says fractional shares cannot be transferred to another broker. If you move the account, IBKR may sell the fractional portion and transfer only whole shares, returning the sale proceeds as cash.
A corporate action removes the fractional position
Fractional shares created by a stock split or another corporate action may be sold, with the proceeds returned as cash. This is different from assuming that every resulting fractional interest will remain in the account.
The quote is delayed
Trading permission and market-data permission are separate. IBKR provides delayed data by default where available. Real-time streaming data requires a separate subscription. IBKR’s current market-data pricing page lists Prague Stock Exchange Cash Market Level 1 at EUR 5 per month for non-professionals and EUR 19 per month for professionals.

What this means for investors
The practical takeaway is narrower than some summaries suggest:
- Copenhagen: eligible shares can be traded, and eligible Nasdaq Copenhagen shares may support fractional orders.
- Prague: share trading is available under the PRA venue code, but the announcement did not establish fractional trading for Prague-listed shares.
- Costs: current commissions differ substantially. Copenhagen has tiered and fixed options; Prague currently has fixed pricing at 0.15% with a CZK 70 minimum, plus the separate clearing fee for CZK-denominated holdings.
- Execution: fractional orders are Smart-routed and are subject to special execution and transfer limitations.
- Access: permissions, account eligibility, security eligibility, and market-data subscriptions must be checked separately.
Before submitting an order, verify the exchange name, currency, commission plan, estimated total cost, and whether the individual security accepts fractional quantities. Those checks are more reliable than assuming that the 2023 announcement applies uniformly to every listing on both exchanges.

IBKR’s 2023 expansion brought Nasdaq Copenhagen and the Prague Stock Exchange into its share-trading offering, but fractional trading was specifically identified for eligible Copenhagen shares—not Prague securities. Use CPH for Copenhagen and PRA for Prague, check the individual stock’s eligibility, and review current commissions before placing a small order. Fractional positions also come with Smart-routing, transfer, execution, and corporate-action limitations that do not apply in exactly the same way to ordinary whole shares.
