Prudential plc is using AI as an enterprise transformation programme, not simply as a chatbot experiment. Its Singapore-based AI Lab coordinates work across 24 Asian and African markets, while AI-supported tools are being applied to customer service, claims, underwriting, agent productivity, healthcare access, fraud management and personalised customer engagement.
Prudential’s AI strategy in one sentence
Prudential is combining a central AI Lab, shared data and cloud capabilities, local-market insurance workflows, and formal governance controls to scale AI across its businesses. The strategic goals are to improve customer experience, enable smarter distribution and expand access to quality healthcare.
That makes Prudential’s approach broader than generative AI. Its disclosed portfolio includes optical character recognition (OCR), speech-to-text, predictive analytics, document retrieval, fraud detection, claims support, underwriting tools and employee copilots, alongside large-language-model applications.
#1 Best Overall
Prudential describes itself as “AI-first” and currently says its AI Lab is advancing more than 100 AI use cases, either live or in development. A 2025 investor presentation separately referred to 60 AI and machine-learning solutions in production supporting more than 140 use cases. Those figures should not automatically be treated as contradictory: they may use different definitions for a use case, a production solution, or an initiative submitted to the Lab.
Why AI matters to Prudential’s business
Prudential operates large agency and bancassurance businesses across markets with different languages, regulations, healthcare systems and levels of digital maturity. Its life and health products also generate substantial volumes of documents, customer enquiries, claims and compliance records.
AI therefore has several potential jobs:
- Help agents find product and healthcare information faster.
- Reduce friction in claims and documentation.
- Support faster underwriting and fraud review.
- Make customer communications more relevant and timely.
- Give employees tools to search, summarise and draft information.
- Improve access to healthcare providers and services.
The model is not principally about replacing Prudential’s human distribution force. The public strategy points more clearly toward augmenting agents and advisers with real-time guidance and better information.
The Singapore AI Lab
Prudential formally launched its global AI Lab in Singapore in 2024, following a soft launch in August. Employees across Prudential’s 24 Asian and African markets submitted more than 100 use cases at launch.
The Lab has dedicated AI engineers and data scientists and is supported by Singapore’s Ministry of Digital Development and Information, the Economic Development Board and the Monetary Authority of Singapore. Google Cloud is the Lab’s technology partner, providing technical support and access to AI solutions.
The important point is organisational rather than geographical. A central Lab can help Prudential avoid a common problem in multinational insurance groups: local teams build useful pilots that never become reusable enterprise capabilities. The Lab is intended to provide a common centre for experimentation, technical standards and scaling, while local businesses retain responsibility for their market context and regulatory obligations.
Prudential’s announcement identified agent guidance, customer engagement and healthcare access as important priorities. It also described an AI-powered “Connected Care” proposition designed to help match customers with suitable healthcare providers and provide health tools for agents and customers.

From pilots to production
Prudential’s public disclosures suggest a progression rather than a single launch:
Rank #2
- Early experimentation: The group described generative-AI work, employee Copilot trials and an AI reference architecture in its earlier reporting.
- Central coordination: The AI Lab launched in Singapore in 2024, with use cases submitted from across the group.
- Production scaling: A 2025 investor presentation reported 60 AI and machine-learning solutions in production supporting more than 140 use cases.
- Commercial expansion: The Customer Engagement Platform grew from four business units at the end of 2024, to eight in the first half of 2025, and 10 by the end of 2025.
This is evidence of an operating model taking shape. It is not evidence that every use case submitted to the Lab has reached production. A useful deployment ladder is: idea, proof of concept, pilot, production deployment, and scaled deployment with measured impact.
Where Prudential is using AI
Customer-service search
One of the clearest disclosed applications is an employee-assistance system that helps contact-centre staff search Prudential documents and retrieve information for customer enquiries.
Prudential reported that average information-search time fell from about four minutes to 30 seconds, with customer waiting time reduced by as much as 75%. These are company-reported results, not independently audited measurements.
This is also an important distinction: the available evidence describes a retrieval and assistance tool for human agents, not necessarily an autonomous chatbot dealing with customers. The employee remains central to interpreting the information and responding appropriately.
Claims processing
Prudential has described OCR and large language models being used to extract information from medical receipts and pre-populate claims forms for customer review. It has also disclosed AI-enabled claims adjudication intended to improve speed, accuracy and efficiency, and the launch of Google’s MedLM to expedite customer claims.
These applications occupy different points on the automation spectrum:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Document intake: Reading receipts and extracting dates, amounts or medical information.
- Form assistance: Using extracted information to pre-populate a claim for review.
- Triage or adjudication support: Helping prioritise or assess claims.
- Final decision: Determining whether a claim is payable.
Public disclosures support the first three categories more clearly than a claim that AI independently makes final insurance decisions. A receipt-reading model can still misread a diagnosis, date or amount, so human review and exception handling remain important.
Underwriting
Prudential’s 2025 investor material lists faster underwriting among its AI and machine-learning applications. That suggests AI is supporting the collection, analysis or prioritisation of underwriting information.
However, the public material does not establish how much of the final underwriting decision is automated. It would be inaccurate to say that AI independently approves policies unless Prudential provides evidence for that specific claim.
Rank #3
Agent and adviser support
Prudential’s distribution model depends heavily on human financial representatives. The AI Lab’s stated priorities include real-time guidance, stronger advisory capabilities, predictive analytics for customer and agent interactions, and a health-AI chatbot in Singapore to help agents access information.

This positions AI as an adviser-enablement layer. Faster access to product rules, benefits and healthcare information could help agents spend more time explaining choices and less time searching internal systems. But that benefit depends on the quality and currency of the underlying information. An agent who treats a generated answer as authoritative could amplify an error rather than prevent one.
Customer engagement and personalisation
Prudential’s Customer Engagement Platform uses data and AI to select communication timing, trigger messages based on real-time events, and tailor communications to customer preferences and behaviour.
The platform was active across four business units at the end of 2024, eight in the first half of 2025, and 10 by the end of 2025. Prudential reported that more than $300 million of annualised premium-equivalent (APE) sales in 2025 came from customers who interacted with the platform.
That is commercially significant, but it should not be described as “AI generated $300 million in sales.” The disclosed figure is an association: the customers interacted with the platform and were linked to that amount of APE sales. It does not establish how much was incremental, how much AI caused, or what the result would have been without the platform.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Healthcare access
Healthcare access is one of Prudential’s most distinctive AI themes. Its Connected Care proposition is intended to help customers find suitable healthcare providers and give agents and customers better access to health tools.
This goes beyond back-office efficiency. In markets where healthcare infrastructure and provider access vary widely, AI could make health insurance more practically useful by helping customers navigate available services. The challenge is ensuring that recommendations are accurate, current, clinically appropriate and transparent about their limitations.
Fraud management
Prudential’s investor presentation lists fraud management among its AI and machine-learning applications. Such systems commonly identify unusual patterns, detect anomalies and prioritise cases for human investigation.
That does not mean a model establishes fraud or determines a customer’s legal entitlement. False positives can delay legitimate claims, while false negatives can expose the insurer to avoidable losses. The quality of review and appeal processes matters as much as the model’s detection capability.

Employee productivity
Prudential has deployed Microsoft Copilot with Bing across the business for tasks such as finding and synthesising information, drafting content, generating ideas and reducing low-value work.
This is a relatively lower-risk entry point than automating claims or underwriting decisions, but it is not risk-free. Employees may enter confidential information into the wrong workflow, rely on outdated source material, or accept an inaccurate summary without checking it.
Consent and compliance in Vietnam
A Vietnam use case combines speech-to-text and large language models to extract the information needed to confirm a customer’s explicit consent to purchase insurance.
It illustrates a less obvious but important use of AI: processing regulatory records, transcribing audio and extracting compliance evidence. It also shows why a multinational insurer cannot simply deploy an identical model everywhere. Consent requirements, languages, product rules and record-keeping obligations differ by market.

What the technology architecture reveals
Prudential’s public disclosures describe a technology foundation rather than a complete system diagram. The supported elements include:
- A global data platform and efforts to improve data literacy.
- Cloud and automation capabilities.
- The Singapore AI Lab and Google Cloud technical support.
- A generative-AI reference architecture.
- OCR, speech-to-text, large language models and predictive analytics.
- Microsoft 365 Copilot for employee productivity.
- Salesforce Customer Engagement Platform capabilities for personalised interactions.
- Controls intended to protect personal data, reduce inaccurate answers and limit hallucinations.
Public sources do not establish the exact foundation model used for every application, whether Prudential fine-tunes models or relies on APIs, its precise cloud deployment pattern, data-residency arrangements in every market, or the share of workloads hosted by each provider.
The best description is therefore vendor-enabled and platform-oriented, not Google-only. Google Cloud supports the AI Lab, Microsoft supplies a workforce productivity tool, and Salesforce supports customer engagement. Prudential’s differentiator is the way it combines those components with insurance data, local operations, distribution relationships and governance.

- Risk-based evaluation of internal and third-party AI.
- Monitoring of AI performance and behaviour.
- Transparency and explainability.
- Fairness and accountability.
- Compliance, reliability and assurance.
Prudential’s filings also identify model risk, regulatory risk, privacy concerns, reputational damage and operational disruption as considerations associated with emerging technology and generative AI. The group has stated that it has no appetite for model-related incidents that lead to regulatory breaches.
Best Value
These disclosures demonstrate a framework and operating commitment. They do not prove that every model is unbiased, accurate or error-free. Public sources do not disclose independent audit results, model error rates, bias-test results, AI-related complaint volumes, rejected projects or model rollback events.
The insurance-specific risks
AI risk is especially consequential in insurance because models can influence access to protection, claims outcomes and customer treatment.
- Incorrect information: A service assistant may supply an incomplete or hallucinated answer about a policy.
- Bias: Underwriting, fraud detection or marketing models may perform unevenly across languages, regions or demographic groups.
- Privacy: Health, financial and identity data require strict controls.
- Regulatory divergence: Rules may differ substantially across Prudential’s Asian and African markets.
- Model drift: Products, regulations, healthcare practices and customer behaviour change over time.
- Human overreliance: A human-in-the-loop safeguard is weak if an employee merely rubber-stamps a model’s recommendation.
- Third-party dependence: Reliance on cloud, model and software vendors creates availability, cost, security and concentration risks.
- Cybersecurity: Generative AI can increase the scale and sophistication of attacks.
- Platform outages: A shared AI service becoming unavailable could affect multiple business units at once.
The same model may also perform differently across languages, medical systems, product rules and customer-service environments. Scaling responsibly requires market-by-market validation, not only central approval.
What Prudential has not yet proved publicly
The available disclosures show meaningful adoption, but they leave important questions unanswered:
- How many of the 100-plus AI Lab use cases are live, pilots or ideas?
- Are the 100-plus and 140-plus figures based on the same definitions?
- Which systems can affect eligibility, pricing, claims or fraud decisions?
- What decisions must still be reviewed by a human?
- How are false positives and false negatives measured?
- Are customer outcomes improving, or are most published metrics about employee speed and sales engagement?
- Does the $300 million CEP figure represent incremental sales, attributed sales, or sales involving an engaged customer?
- What are the model-level error rates, costs and rollback procedures?
- How is data localisation handled across markets?
Those are not reasons to dismiss the strategy. They are the measures needed to distinguish a growing AI capability from a collection of successful demonstrations.
What other insurers can learn from Prudential’s stack
Prudential’s approach suggests four broad technology categories for enterprise buyers:
| Category | Role | Limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Workforce copilots | Search, summarisation, drafting and employee assistance | Not a substitute for claims or underwriting-specific systems |
| Cloud AI platforms | Model access, data engineering and scalable AI development | Require architecture, governance and specialist skills |
| Customer-engagement platforms | Personalised communications, event triggers and lead nurturing | Depend on clean data, consent and careful measurement |
| Insurance-specific AI | Claims, underwriting, fraud and policy workflows | Requires validation against local products and regulation |
These components are not direct substitutes for Prudential’s full programme. The strategic value comes from connecting them to local-market operations, human advisers, healthcare partnerships and a common governance process.

Prudential plc is no longer describing AI merely as an innovation-lab experiment. Its Singapore AI Lab, production solutions, customer-engagement rollout and operational use cases point toward an enterprise operating model tied to distribution, service, claims, healthcare and productivity.
The strongest evidence is the movement from ideas to scaled deployment and measurable operational or commercial indicators. The main qualification is equally important: Prudential has not publicly disclosed enough model-level data to prove the quality, fairness or causal financial impact of every application.
The defining test will be whether Prudential can scale AI consistently across different markets without compromising privacy, explainability, regulatory compliance or the human trust on which insurance distribution depends.
