Step 1: Locate the official, dated notice
Start with the AMC’s own website
Look for a notice, investor communication, regulatory announcement, or corporate-information page on the AMC’s official website. The document should be dated and should identify the legal entity, its former name, its new name, and the effective date. A message forwarded by email or WhatsApp, or a search-result snippet, is only a lead. It is not proof that the change is genuine or that it applies to your folio.
If you do not know the correct official website, use the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) official AMC information and KYC pages to reach the AMC’s channel. AMFI’s page provides AMC links and KYC-modification information. Type the address yourself or use a saved, independently verified bookmark rather than following a link in an unsolicited message.
Check that the notice concerns the AMC itself
Read the entity name carefully. A notice may concern:

These are different events. A scheme rename can change the label shown for a holding without changing the AMC. A distributor’s rebranding does not necessarily alter the entity that maintains your folio. A personal name update concerns the holder, not the institution. Do not use a form intended for one event to address another.
What the notice must establish
Before taking action, identify these facts in the notice:
- the complete former legal name;
- the complete new legal name;
- the effective date, including any stated time zone or “from” date;
- whether the AMC entity itself changed or only its public-facing name;
- whether existing investors, folios, schemes, mandates, and transactions are affected; and
- any stated investor deadline, form, or document requirement.
If the notice does not clearly state the effective date or investor impact, stop at verification and ask the AMC or RTA for written clarification. Do not fill the gap with assumptions.

Step 2: Compare the notice with your own records
Gather a consistent set of documents
Use your latest account statement and, if available, recent official fund communications and the AMC or RTA portal where you view the folio. Download or save the documents so the version and date are preserved. Do not rely on a cropped screenshot that omits the issuer or document date.
AMFI describes a folio as the account number under which holdings in a mutual fund scheme are recorded. Record the folio number exactly as shown, along with the scheme name, holder name, registered email or mobile number, and the AMC name printed on the statement. You are creating a comparison record, not changing any of these details yet.

Do not edit a statement to make the names match. Keep the original document and annotate your own notes separately. Historical statements may legitimately display the former corporate name if they were issued before the effective date.
Investigate inconsistencies without sending sensitive documents
If the new name appears on one official document but the former name appears on another after the stated effective date, ask which document is authoritative and whether the difference is a publication delay. Contact details supplied only in an unsolicited message should not be used to send PAN, bank details, identity documents, passwords, or one-time codes. Locate the AMC or RTA service channel independently through the official AMC site or AMFI.
Step 3: Ask the AMC or RTA the questions that determine action
Use the official investor-service channel and keep the answer with the notice. Ask focused questions rather than requesting a generic “KYC update.” Your message should include the scheme name and folio number, but disclose only what the authenticated channel requires.
- Is the dated notice genuine, and what is the exact effective date?
- Did the legal entity managing the fund change, or did only the corporate name change?
- Will the existing folio number remain unchanged?
- Will statements, capital-gains reports, account confirmations, mandates, or transaction records be reissued or relabeled?
- Is any investor form, signature, authorization, or supporting document required?
- Does the instruction apply to this specific scheme and folio?
- Which RTA maintains the folio, and should the request be sent to the AMC, the RTA, or both?
- Is there a deadline, and what happens if no action is taken?
Ask for the response in writing through the authenticated portal, official email domain, or a service ticket. Save the ticket number, date, notice, and response together. If a representative gives a verbal answer, request written confirmation before submitting a form.

Do not confuse a corporate change with your personal KYC name
An AMC corporate name identifies an institution. An investor name update changes the holder’s personal records. AMFI-hosted scheme guidance discusses supporting documents for permissible investor KYC or personal-name changes and notifying the AMC or RTA. That guidance does not establish that an investor must change their own name when the AMC changes its corporate name.
Therefore, do not submit a personal name-change request solely because the AMC has adopted a new corporate name. Submit a personal KYC or name-change request only when your own details have changed or the AMC’s specific notice expressly requires an action for your account. If the notice is silent, ask the official service channel whether your statement, folio, or future transactions are affected.
What happens when records are split across RTAs?
An RTA may service records for particular funds or folios. SEBI’s investor FAQ, surfaced as a January 2026 document, says an RTA can update PAN and KYC details across the folios it manages when the holder gives specific authorization. Separate RTAs may require separate documents. This is guidance about investor-record updates; it is not proof that an AMC corporate name change requires a holder request.
