The invited person accepts with a separate Walmart.com account, and Walmart lists Gas Savings as one of the benefits that can be shared.
The primary member still controls the membership and must authorize use of the designated Walmart+ payment card. The invited member can instead add a personal payment method. They cannot see one another’s orders, purchase history, saved addresses or account settings through the sharing arrangement.

What Walmart+ account sharing actually does
Benefits Sharing is Walmart’s official account-separation route. Under the Walmart+ Terms of Use, a paid member, excluding trial members, may invite one person who is at least 18 and resides full-time at the same residential address. Walmart decides whether an account and an invited person qualify.
The invited adult uses their own Walmart.com login. That means you share an eligible benefit, not the primary account’s password or complete shopping history. Walmart identifies Gas Savings as a shared benefit, while some other benefits are expressly reserved for the primary member. Its sharing help gives Video Streaming Choice and Burger King Savings as examples of primary-member-only benefits, so check the terms for any benefit you intend to use rather than assuming every Walmart+ feature transfers.

Set up the separate account
- Confirm the membership type. The person sending the invitation must have a paid Walmart+ membership; trial memberships are excluded from the sharing provision.
- Confirm the household requirement. The invitee must be an adult who lives full-time at the same residential address. A friend, roommate at another address or occasional guest does not meet the stated condition.
- Open Benefits Sharing in the primary account. Use Walmart’s Walmart+ sharing controls to invite one qualifying adult. The invitation is for that person’s own Walmart.com account.
- Have the invitee accept with their own login. The invited person signs in or creates a Walmart.com account and uses that account when accessing eligible benefits.
- Review the payment authorization. The primary member must authorize the invited member to use the designated Walmart+ payment card. The invitee sees only the card’s last four digits and can add a personal payment method instead.
- Verify Gas Savings before driving to a station. The shared member should sign in to their own account and confirm that the fuel benefit is available. Walmart can limit eligibility or participation.
Who can use the shared fuel benefit?
The arrangement is limited to one invited adult, not an unlimited number of relatives or drivers. The person must be at least 18 and must reside full-time at the same residential address as the primary member. A household member who has moved away, a visiting family member or a friend who uses the home occasionally does not meet the written condition.
The primary member must have a paid Walmart+ membership. A trial membership does not qualify for this sharing provision. Walmart also retains control over eligibility and participation, so satisfying the age and address requirements does not override an account restriction or an ineligible membership status.
Benefits Sharing is different from simply signing into the primary account on another phone. The invited adult should accept the invitation and redeem fuel while signed in to the invited Walmart.com account. Do not solve a setup problem by texting the primary password or leaving the primary account signed in on a shared device.

What remains private—and what is still shared
Benefits Sharing does not merge the two shopping accounts. Walmart says the account holders cannot see each other’s orders, purchase history, saved addresses or account settings through this arrangement. Each person continues to authenticate with their own Walmart.com credentials.
Payment authorization is a separate issue from account visibility. The primary member must approve use of the designated Walmart+ payment card for the shared benefit. The invited member does not receive the full card number; Walmart displays only its last four digits. If the invitee prefers, they may add and use a personal payment method where the station’s payment flow permits it.
Sharing the benefit therefore does not mean sharing every payment choice. At some stations the app requires the Walmart-account-linked card or Walmart Pay, while other flows allow cash or a card inside the store. The invitee should check the station-specific instructions before assuming a personal card will work at the pump.
Gas Savings is not a universal pass to every Walmart+ feature. Before relying on another benefit, read its specific terms. Walmart’s terms also allow operational or fraud controls that can affect benefit use, and participating fuel providers set their own underlying public prices.

How the fuel benefit works by station
The discount is not redeemed identically everywhere. Walmart and Sam’s Club use a pump QR flow in the Walmart app; Murphy uses an in-app discount ID; Exxon and Mobil use a QR scan followed by app prompts; and eligible CITGO locations use an activated Club CITGO account and its linked phone number as an Alt ID.

“Up to” is important: the advertised amount is a maximum, not a promise that every grade, state or station will show the same reduction. Walmart says participating providers determine their public prices, and location and state law can affect the benefit. Check the live station details in the app before fueling.
Step-by-step redemption instructions
Walmart stations
- Open the Walmart app and select Services.
- Choose Walmart+ Member benefits, then Member prices on fuel.
- Select Pay at pump and scan the QR code displayed on the pump.
- Follow the app prompts to authorize payment, choose a grade and begin fueling.
- For Pay Inside at a participating Walmart station, show the app barcode to the cashier, pay with cash or card, then pump.
At new Nexus pumps, scan the displayed QR code. Tapping a card with Tap to Pay or inserting a card instead will not apply the Walmart+ discount.
Sam’s Club stations
- In the Walmart app, open Member prices on fuel.
- Choose the pay-at-pump flow and scan the pump QR code.
- Complete payment with Walmart Pay and select your grade.
The result is the Sam’s Club member price. It is not a second Walmart+ cents-per-gallon reduction layered on top.
Murphy stations
- Open Member prices on fuel in the Walmart app and retrieve the Murphy discount ID.
- At the pump, choose Walmart+ and enter the ID.
- Select the fuel grade and pump.
Murphy also supports presenting the ID when paying inside. The station’s payment options may include a card at the pump or cash or card inside.
Exxon and Mobil stations
- Use the Walmart app to scan the pump QR code.
- Select Fuel up for less.
- Enter the pump number.
- Choose a payment method and fuel grade, then start fueling.
The Mobil+ Loyalty Program discount cannot be combined with the Walmart+ discount, so select one applicable program rather than expecting both reductions.
Eligible CITGO stations
- Start in Walmart’s fuel-benefit flow and create or link a Club CITGO account.
- Complete activation before arriving at the pump.
- At a participating CITGO pump, choose Walmart+.
- Enter the phone number associated with the activated Club CITGO account as the Alt ID.
- Stay within CITGO’s 30-gallon-per-transaction and four-transactions-per-week limits.
Only eligible CITGO locations accept this flow. Joining or linking Club CITGO is required for the Walmart+ benefit at those stations. Walmart says Club CITGO can provide additional savings at participating locations, but the Walmart+ and Club CITGO mechanics still depend on the station’s prompts.
Prepare before you arrive at the pump
- Update the Walmart app. Walmart recommends using the latest version for the current QR and payment prompts.
- Turn on location services. The app may need location access to identify a participating station and present the correct flow.
- Set up Walmart Pay when the station requires it. Walmart and Sam’s Club pump flows use Walmart Pay; Exxon and Mobil use the card linked to the Walmart account.
- Use the station finder. Confirm participation and review the station’s current instructions rather than relying on an old pump layout.
- Keep the invitee signed in to the invited account. A shared household member should not switch to the primary member’s credentials to redeem fuel.
- Know the station’s input method. A QR code, Murphy discount ID and CITGO Alt ID are different mechanisms; entering the wrong one will not activate the discount.
- Complete account links early. CITGO activation and Club CITGO linking should be finished before reaching the pump, where connectivity and time pressure can make troubleshooting harder.
- Check the grade and local price. The amount saved can vary by grade, location and provider pricing. Compare the final posted price with nearby participating options.
If the discount does not appear
The pump has no QR code or the app is unavailable
Walmart’s fuel FAQ says the discount cannot be applied without the Walmart app, except when using an already activated CITGO benefit with the linked phone number as the Alt ID. At a Walmart, Sam’s Club, Exxon or Mobil pump, obtain app access before starting the transaction. At Murphy, retrieve the discount ID in the app; at CITGO, use the activated Alt ID flow.
The station is not listed as participating
Providers and locations can differ, and Walmart says benefits may vary by location. Check the station finder and the current pump instructions. A nearby station from the same brand may have different participation.

A card was tapped or inserted at a Nexus pump
At new Nexus pumps, Tap to Pay and card insertion bypass the Walmart+ flow. Cancel if the pump permits, restart through the Walmart app and scan the QR code, then follow the prompts.
The invitee cannot see Gas Savings
Confirm that the primary member is paid rather than on a trial, that the invitee is an adult at the same full-time residential address, and that the invitation was accepted in the invitee’s own Walmart.com account. Walmart determines eligibility, so a qualifying household arrangement does not guarantee participation if Walmart has restricted the account.
The price or savings is different than expected
“Up to 10¢” applies to participating Walmart, Exxon, Mobil, Murphy and eligible CITGO locations; select Alabama stations offer 5¢. Sam’s Club uses its member price rather than an extra Walmart+ reduction. Public pump prices, local participation and state law affect the final amount.

Check that Club CITGO was activated and linked through Walmart, that the phone number entered is the linked number, that the station participates and that you have not exceeded 30 gallons in the transaction or four fuel transactions in the week.
The invited member wants to use a personal card
The invitee may add a personal payment method, but not every station accepts every payment path. Walmart and Sam’s Club pump redemption uses Walmart Pay, and Exxon and Mobil use the Walmart-account-linked card in the app. Murphy permits card-at-pump or cash/card inside, while Walmart Pay Inside permits cash or card at the cashier. Select the station based on the payment method the driver can actually use.
How much can the benefit be worth?
Walmart announced on September 14, 2026 that the program had expanded from 13,000 to more than 17,000 participating U.S. locations after the CITGO addition. That is Walmart’s program count, not an independently audited station total.
In the same announcement, Walmart reported more than $100 in average gas savings for members who used the benefit at least weekly during the previous year. This is a Walmart-reported average, not a guaranteed result for an individual household. Your outcome depends on gallons purchased, local pump prices, participating stations, the applicable discount and any caps.

- Check the actual station price. A cents-per-gallon discount does not by itself establish the lowest final price; providers set their own public prices.
- Confirm the benefit type. Walmart, Exxon, Mobil, Murphy and eligible CITGO generally advertise a cents-per-gallon reduction, while Sam’s Club supplies its member price.
- Match the redemption method. Choose a station where you can complete the required QR, app-ID or CITGO Alt ID flow.
- Check payment constraints. Walmart and Sam’s Club pump use Walmart Pay; Exxon and Mobil use the Walmart-linked card in the app; Murphy offers pump or inside payment; Walmart Pay Inside supports cash or card.
- Review limits and stacking rules. CITGO has gallon and weekly-transaction caps, and Mobil+ Loyalty cannot be combined with Walmart+.
For a household with two drivers, the separate-account design can be more practical than passing one phone back and forth. Each driver can sign in to the invited account on their own device, while the primary member retains control of the membership and payment authorization. The household should still verify that the invitation remains active and that the selected station supports the driver’s preferred payment flow.

Use Benefits Sharing rather than giving anyone the primary password. If the household changes, the primary member can manage the invitation through Walmart’s sharing controls; the invited person’s separate account remains distinct from the primary account. Review the current terms before relying on the benefit because Walmart can change eligible benefits, station participation, operational controls and redemption prompts.
Removing or changing an invite should be handled through the sharing controls rather than by changing the primary password alone. A password change may protect the primary shopping account, but it does not substitute for managing the official invitation and benefit authorization. The invited adult should also remove any saved payment method from their own account if they no longer need it.

Do Walmart+ fuel discounts work without the Walmart app?
