The simplest way to use an Audible credit is to sign in, choose an audiobook displaying the 1 credit badge, and confirm the credit purchase in the Audible app, on the Audible website, or through Amazon. Promotional claim codes work differently: open Audible in a desktop or mobile browser, choose Enter a Promo code from your account menu, and redeem the code there; the Android and iOS apps do not accept promo codes.
Before spending or canceling, check your credit summary. It shows the balance and the individual expiration date for active credits. Gift purchases accept some credits but never coupons, and cancellation can remove unused credits, so the order in which you check, spend, pause, or cancel matters.

What an Audible credit is—and what it is not
An Audible credit is a membership or account credit that exchanges for an eligible audiobook. Look for the 1 credit badge on the title page. If that badge is absent, the title is not presenting the credit purchase option in that account and edition.

Credits are for audiobook purchases. They are not a payment method for Amazon Music Unlimited. A credit also is not the same thing as a promotional coupon: a credit buys a title that accepts the credit, while a coupon applies an offer whose own conditions determine what you receive.

Credit types, expiration, and gift eligibility
Audible accounts can contain several kinds of credits. Their source affects how long they remain available and whether you may use them for someone else.
| Credit or reward | Typical use | Expiration | Can it buy a gift? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Membership credit | An eligible audiobook | 12 months from issue or cancellation | Generally yes |
| Extra purchased credit | An eligible audiobook | Usually 12 months; extra credits purchased in the iOS or Android app do not expire | Depends on the credit terms |
| Gift-membership credit | An eligible audiobook | 12 months from issue or cancellation | No |
| Complimentary, special, or promotional credit | An eligible audiobook | 12 months from issue or cancellation | No for promotional or bonus credits |
| Return credit | Buying an audiobook again after a return | 12 months from issue or cancellation; return credits issued through the App Store or Google Play do not expire | No |
| App Store or Google Play credit | An eligible audiobook | Does not expire | Check the terms shown in your account |
| Rewards coupon | A discount or other promotional offer | According to the reward terms | No; coupons cannot be applied to gifts |
The table is a practical guide, not a substitute for the date and terms attached to a particular credit. Two credits in the same account can have different sources and different conditions.
How to see your balance and each expiration date
Check the account before you start checkout or change your membership. On the Audible website, open your profile and choose Membership details or Credit summary. In the app, open Profile > Settings > Membership > Details.

The summary identifies active credits and the expiration date associated with each one. Use that list rather than assuming that the oldest-looking credit will be spent first or that every credit shares one date. If a credit came from the App Store or Google Play, the account terms may show it as non-expiring even when other credits have dates.

How to spend a membership credit
- Sign in. Use Audible, the Audible app, or Amazon with the account that holds the credit.
- Find an eligible title. Open the audiobook page and verify that it carries the 1 credit badge.
- Select the credit option. Choose the purchase control that specifies one credit rather than a cash price or another offer.
- Confirm the order. Review the title and account before confirming. The audiobook should then appear in your Audible library.
If the credit option does not appear, do not assume that the credit has vanished. First confirm that you are signed in to the account shown in the credit summary and that the title actually displays the badge. A title can be available for listening or purchase without being eligible for a credit transaction in that particular flow.
How to redeem a promotional coupon or claim code
Promotional claim codes are redeemed on Audible’s mobile or desktop website, not inside the Android or iOS app. A code may provide a trial, a specific audiobook, or one or more credits. The message or promotion that supplied the code controls its eligibility, region, end date, and any membership requirement.
- Open a browser. Use a desktop browser or your phone’s mobile browser and go to Audible.
- Sign in. Use the account that should receive the promotion.
- Open the account menu. Select your name or account menu, then choose Enter a Promo code.
- Enter the code. Type or paste it exactly as supplied and select Redeem.
- Verify the result. Follow the cart or account flow and confirm whether the result is a trial, audiobook, or credit. Check the resulting balance or library entry before closing the page.
If you tried the app first, switch to a browser; app-based redemption is not supported. If the browser still rejects the code, reread the terms supplied with it. A claim code can be limited to a date, account status, title, or one redemption, and its expiration follows those supplied terms rather than the normal membership-credit schedule.

Audible allows a member to gift an audiobook through Audible.com or the mobile website using an eligible credit. The recipient can receive and listen to the audiobook without having an Audible membership.
Rank #3
Use an eligible credit
At the gift checkout, choose the credit option for the audiobook and enter the recipient details requested by the page. Membership credits generally qualify. Credits issued from a return, bonus or promotional credits, and credits supplied by a gift membership do not qualify.
Do not try to apply a coupon
Coupons cannot be applied to gift purchases. If the checkout offers a coupon field or a discount elsewhere in the account, that offer does not change the gift restriction. Use an eligible credit or follow the gift checkout’s other available payment method.
Confirm the recipient’s access
The recipient receives the audiobook through the delivery method shown at checkout and can listen without joining Audible. Keep the confirmation information in case the recipient does not see the gift message or the title in the expected account.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →How Audible Rewards coupons and anniversary benefits work
Audible Rewards can issue milestone coupons and other promotions. One listening day for Rewards requires five minutes of listening time. A reward may have its own qualifying action, delivery date, and expiration, so read the terms attached to that reward instead of treating it as a standard membership credit.
Rank #4
After 12 paid months, the anniversary benefit depends on the plan:
| Plan | Anniversary benefit after 12 paid months |
|---|---|
| Premium | One free credit |
| Standard | One free monthly listen |
| Plus | A $5 coupon |
The benefit is tied to the plan and the paid-month requirement. A Plus anniversary coupon is not interchangeable with a Premium credit, and a Standard monthly listen is not a cash balance. Unused Rewards benefits can expire under the terms shown with the reward.
Pause instead of canceling when you need a break
Eligible members can pause for up to 90 days in a 12-month period. During a Premium pause, existing Premium credits remain usable, but new credits are not issued while the pause is active.
Recommended Free Tools
A pause does not freeze every other promotion. Audible states that a reduced-price promotional period continues to run during a pause and is not extended. Before selecting the pause control, note the end date of any reduced-price period and the expiration dates in your credit summary.

Pause checklist
- Open your membership details and record the credits and dates shown.
- Confirm that your account is eligible for a pause and review the maximum period offered.
- Read the pause confirmation for the date billing and credit issuance will resume.
- Use any credit that would otherwise reach its account-stated date before the pause ends.
What happens if you cancel Audible
Cancellation has stricter consequences than a pause. Audible’s credit guidance says that remaining credits are lost when you cancel, while the applicable credit rules also refer to expiration in relation to cancellation. Treat a cancellation as a point at which unused membership value may end, not as a way to preserve a balance until a later return.
Before confirming cancellation, open Profile > Membership details > Credit summary on the website, or Profile > Settings > Membership > Details in the app. Use eligible credits first, and save a record of any credit or reward that has separate terms. If the account presents a retention offer or pause option, read whether it changes the membership end date, credit issuance, or promotional period.
Troubleshooting common credit and coupon problems
The credit balance is lower than expected
- Open the credit summary and match each transaction to its source; membership, return, promotional, and App Store or Google Play credits follow different terms.
- Check the library and order history to make sure a recent purchase was completed on the same account.
- Look at each credit’s account-stated expiration date rather than relying on the date you remember receiving it.
The audiobook has no credit option
- Confirm the 1 credit badge on the title page.
- Sign out of any different Audible or Amazon account and sign back in to the account holding the credit.
- Try the website if the app page is not displaying the purchase controls, then compare the title’s edition and availability.
The promo code will not redeem
- Move from the app to a desktop or mobile browser.
- Use the account menu’s Enter a Promo code page rather than a normal audiobook checkout field.
- Check the code’s supplied terms for a required trial, plan, country, title, or redemption date.
- After redemption, verify whether the result is a trial, audiobook, or credit; a successful code does not always add a conventional membership credit.
The gift checkout rejects the credit
Check the source of the credit. Return credits, bonus or promotional credits, and gift-membership credits cannot buy gifts. Coupons are also excluded from gift purchases, so an eligible credit is required.
A credit disappeared after a membership change
Review the cancellation or pause status and the credit summary. A Premium pause should leave existing Premium credits usable but stops new issuance. Cancellation can remove remaining credits, so contact Audible support with the account’s order and credit details if the displayed result does not match the confirmation you received.
Quick Recap
A practical order for using credits and promotions
- Inventory first. Record the balance, source, and account-stated date for each credit.
- Separate gifts from personal listening. Reserve only credits whose terms permit gifting; do not count coupons or excluded credit types toward a gift purchase.
- Use the correct channel. Use the app, website, or Amazon for a 1-credit audiobook purchase, but use a browser for every promotional code.
- Read the offer’s own terms. A Rewards coupon, anniversary benefit, claim code, and membership credit are different instruments.
- Choose pause or cancellation deliberately. A pause can preserve existing Premium credits while withholding new ones; cancellation can end access to unused credits.
Before you click Confirm
- Is the account the one that owns the credit or should receive the promotion?
- Does the audiobook show the 1 credit badge?
- Are you using a browser for a claim code?
- Is this purchase for yourself or a gift, and does the credit source allow that use?
- Have you checked the individual expiration date and the terms attached to any coupon or reward?
- If you are pausing or canceling, have you used credits that could be lost or recorded the relevant confirmation?
