How to Update Your UAN, Aadhaar, Bank Details and Nominee in the EPFO Portal (2026 Guide)

Use the route that matches the record you need to change: activate or generate a UAN in the UMANG app with Aadhaar face authentication; seed or correct Aadhaar through the appropriate Joint Declaration or employer process; update eligible profile fields after Aadhaar validation; add bank details through the portal’s KYC service; and file or revise your nominee under Manage > E-nomination. EPFO’s current member portal is dynamic, so the labels, validation messages and approval path shown after login can vary by account.

Start at the official EPFO Member e-SEWA portal and never use an agent who asks for money or sensitive credentials. The current portal says that UAN activation and new UAN generation have moved to UMANG, while e-nomination is mandatory under the EPF Scheme, 2026.

Choose the correct EPFO update route

“Updating Aadhaar,” “changing profile details” and “correcting KYC” are not interchangeable requests. The actor who must complete the change depends on the record, whether your Aadhaar data matches your UAN, and whether the request needs employer or Regional Office approval.

File or revise a nominee Member portal > Manage > E-nomination Member, with Aadhaar e-sign Confirm the current form’s required fields and upload rules before submitting.

The controlling distinction for Aadhaar cases is set out in EPFO’s 13 August 2025 circular, “Seeding/Correcting Aadhaar in Universal Account Number (UAN)”.

Prepare before you open the portal

Have the information needed for the specific task ready. Older EPFO guidance lists an activated Aadhaar-linked UAN, an Aadhaar-linked mobile number, and a member profile containing a photograph and address as e-nomination prerequisites. For a nominee, it lists the person’s photograph, Aadhaar, bank account number with IFSC and address. The current form may request different fields, so treat that checklist as preparation guidance rather than a guarantee of what the live screen will require.

  • Use the mobile number that receives Aadhaar OTPs for authentication.
  • Check the spelling of your name, date of birth and gender against Aadhaar before attempting a seed or correction.
  • Keep the correct bank account number and IFSC available; do not rely on a passbook image alone.
  • For a minor nominee, have the guardian’s details ready if the current form asks for them.
  • Use a current browser or the official UMANG app, and save any acknowledgement or transaction reference displayed after submission.

Do not share your UAN password, Aadhaar number, PAN, bank details or OTP with a caller or message claiming to be EPFO. EPFO states that it does not ask members to deposit money for routine services.

Activate or generate a UAN through UMANG

The live EPFO member portal now directs users to UMANG for both activation of an existing UAN and generation of a new UAN using Aadhaar-based face authentication. Do not look for the former portal-based activation or direct-allotment workflow.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Install or open the official UMANG app and sign in using the mobile verification requested by the app.
  2. Open EPFO Services.
  3. Choose the relevant UAN option under UAN Services Through Face Auth. The wording may distinguish activation from new UAN generation.
  4. Enter the requested UAN or Aadhaar details and proceed to Aadhaar face authentication.
  5. Complete the identity checks shown by UMANG and submit.
  6. Record the confirmation or reference number. If the app reports that your identity details do not match, correct the underlying Aadhaar or EPFO record before trying again.

Because the account-specific screen is behind authentication, EPFO’s public notice does not establish every error message or a guaranteed completion time. If the service cannot validate you, use the support route displayed in UMANG or the member portal rather than paying an intermediary.

Link or correct Aadhaar in your UAN

First identify which of three situations applies. The August 2025 EPFO circular treats them separately: first-time Aadhaar seeding, a mismatch between UAN and Aadhaar details, and replacement of an Aadhaar number that was linked incorrectly.

Case 1: Aadhaar has never been seeded

If your UAN details already match Aadhaar for name, gender and date of birth, the employer can seed Aadhaar through the employer portal’s KYC function. Depending on the member portal’s current options, you may also see a Joint Declaration or KYC route available to you.

  1. Log in to the EPFO Member e-SEWA portal.
  2. Open the KYC or profile service shown for Aadhaar seeding.
  3. Enter the Aadhaar number exactly as held by UIDAI and submit the authentication requested.
  4. Check the on-screen status. If the system says that your name, gender or date of birth does not match, stop and use the mismatch route below instead of repeatedly submitting the same request.

Where the employer must act, ask the employer’s EPFO administrator to use the employer portal KYC function. The employer, not a private agent, should submit the request.

Case 2: Your UAN name, gender or date of birth does not match Aadhaar

A mismatch can prevent ordinary seeding. EPFO’s circular says the employer may need to file a Joint Declaration to correct the member record or support the Aadhaar-seeding request.

  1. Compare the three fields in your UAN record with the corresponding Aadhaar data.
  2. Use the member portal’s Joint Declaration facility if it is available for your account, or ask your employer to initiate the declaration.
  3. Enter the corrected information exactly as supported by the required records and submit through the route the portal provides.
  4. Wait for the status shown in the portal or by your employer. Do not assume that submission means approval.
  5. After the correction is accepted, return to the KYC or Aadhaar-seeding service and complete linking if the portal has not done so automatically.

The public circular does not promise one approval time for every mismatch. A request can remain pending until the employer supplies the declaration or the relevant EPFO office validates it.

Case 3: The wrong Aadhaar number is already linked

This is not a normal edit. EPFO’s 13 August 2025 instructions say the employer must enter the correct Aadhaar through an online Joint Declaration and forward the request to the Regional Office for approval.

  1. Tell your employer that an incorrect Aadhaar is linked to your UAN and provide the correct number through a secure internal process.
  2. Ask the employer to submit the correction using the online Joint Declaration facility.
  3. Check that the request has been forwarded to the appropriate Regional Office for approval.
  4. Monitor the member portal for the final status before using Aadhaar-dependent services.

Do not create another UAN to work around a wrongly linked Aadhaar. That can fragment your employment records and make later consolidation harder.

How the member-portal Joint Declaration route fits in

EPFO’s July–September 2025 newsletter reports that a member-portal Aadhaar-seeding facility through Joint Declaration was introduced in August 2025. The exact availability can depend on your account and validation status. If the button is absent, follow the employer or Regional Office route identified by the portal rather than using an unofficial website.

Update personal profile details after Aadhaar validation

EPFO’s 19 January 2025 announcement says members whose UAN has already been validated through Aadhaar can update specified profile fields themselves without uploading documents in most cases. The fields listed by EPFO are:

  • Name
  • Date of birth
  • Gender
  • Nationality
  • Father’s or mother’s name
  • Marital status
  • Spouse’s name
  • Date of joining
  • Date of leaving

Use the profile-update option after signing in to the member portal, select only the field that is wrong, enter the value exactly as it appears in the supporting identity record, and complete the authentication requested. Save the acknowledgement and re-open your profile to verify the result.

There is an important age-of-account exception: some UANs obtained before 1 October 2017 may still require employer certification. If the self-service form is unavailable or asks for employer approval, submit the request through the indicated employer workflow instead of assuming the portal is malfunctioning.

Do not use a profile edit to fix an incorrectly linked Aadhaar number. Aadhaar-number replacement follows the Joint Declaration and Regional Office process described above.

Change your bank account in EPFO KYC

EPFO announced that employer approval for seeding bank-account details with a UAN was removed from April 2025. The member should therefore use the portal’s KYC facility and follow the validation result displayed on screen.

  1. Sign in to the EPFO member portal.
  2. Open Manage or the equivalent menu and select KYC.
  3. Choose the bank-account option and enter the account number and IFSC carefully.
  4. Submit the KYC request and complete any OTP or bank validation requested by the portal.
  5. Review the status shown in the KYC table. A request marked pending, rejected or needing correction requires the action stated beside it.
  6. After acceptance, confirm that the displayed account number and bank name are correct before relying on the account for a claim or withdrawal.

The April 2025 policy change removes the employer-approval step; it does not establish a single processing-time promise for all members. Bank validation, an incorrect IFSC, a closed account or a mismatch in your identity data can still prevent completion.

Common bank-KYC problems

  • Incorrect account or IFSC: submit a new request with the bank’s current details. Do not guess an IFSC from an old cheque.
  • Rejected request: read the portal’s reason and correct only the failed field before resubmitting.
  • Old account still displayed: wait for the current status to change before assuming the new account is active; keep the acknowledgement for escalation.
  • Someone asks for a fee: stop. EPFO’s official KYC service does not require payment to a caller or agent.

File or update an EPFO e-nomination

The live EPFO portal says nomination is mandatory under the EPF Scheme, 2026 and can be filed or updated during the service period. Use the current form rather than relying blindly on older screenshots, because labels and upload requirements can change.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Step-by-step nomination flow

  1. Log in to the EPFO member portal with your UAN and password.
  2. Verify that your profile information and photograph are present and correct.
  3. Open Manage > E-nomination.
  4. Confirm or update the family declaration presented by the form.
  5. Add each nominee’s identity and relationship details. Use the nominee’s name and date of birth as required by the current form and Aadhaar record.
  6. Enter guardian information when the nominee is a minor, if the form requests it.
  7. Allocate the percentage share for each nominee. Multiple nominees can be added; one nominee can receive 100% if that is your intended allocation.
  8. Save the EPF nomination.
  9. Complete Aadhaar e-sign using the OTP sent through the authentication flow.
  10. Download or record the completed nomination acknowledgement and verify that the status is submitted or approved as shown by the portal.

Older EPFO booklet guidance describes a nominee photograph upload and asks for Aadhaar, bank-account number with IFSC and address. Those requirements may not appear identically in the current form, so provide them only when the live portal asks. The same booklet is useful for understanding the sequence, but it is not a guarantee of today’s screen design.

Changing an existing nomination

Open the same E-nomination service and use the option to update the existing declaration. Review every nominee, relationship and percentage before saving, because changing one share can alter the total allocation. Complete Aadhaar e-sign again if the portal requires it; an unsaved draft is not a completed nomination.

What to do when a request is stuck or rejected

EPFO’s public material does not establish a universal turnaround time or success rate for these services. Use the status and reason shown in your account as the next action rather than relying on an internet estimate.

  • No service button: confirm that you are in the member portal for the correct UAN. UAN activation and new generation now belong in UMANG.
  • Aadhaar mismatch: stop ordinary KYC submission and use Joint Declaration or the employer route.
  • Wrong Aadhaar linked: request online Joint Declaration through the employer and Regional Office approval.
  • Profile field locked: check whether your UAN predates 1 October 2017 and requires employer certification.
  • KYC pending or rejected: read the displayed validation result, correct the specific bank or identity field and resubmit.
  • E-nomination will not submit: verify that the profile is complete, nominee shares add up as intended, required fields are filled and Aadhaar e-sign has been completed.
  • Portal or app error: capture the error text and reference number, then use the official support path shown by EPFO or UMANG. Do not disclose your OTP to support callers.

Protect your UAN and personal information

EPFO’s live portal displays this warning: “EPFO never requests personal information such as Aadhaar, PAN, or bank details over the phone.” Treat an unsolicited call, text or social-media message as suspicious, especially if it demands an OTP, password, remote-access installation or a deposit.
