The phone camera replaces a separate biometric device on the face-authentication route. You need an onboarded Pension Sanctioning Authority (PSA), a supported phone, accurate Aadhaar and pension details, and the pensioner’s mobile number.
Install Jeevan Pramaan and AadhaarFaceRd, complete one-time operator authentication, enter the pensioner’s particulars, complete face authentication, and save the resulting Pramaan ID and SMS acknowledgement. The DLC is sent electronically to the Pension Disbursing Agency (PDA), but the agency must still approve it.

What a Jeevan Pramaan Digital Life Certificate does
A Digital Life Certificate is the electronic version of the life certificate used by a pensioner’s paying authority. Jeevan Pramaan lets an eligible pensioner create the certificate through an Aadhaar-based identity check instead of visiting a bank, post office or treasury solely for this task.
Home generation does not mean the certificate is automatically accepted. After successful generation, the DLC becomes available electronically to the relevant Pension Disbursing Agency (PDA). The Pension Sanctioning Authority (PSA) or PDA applies its own approval and validity rules. Keep the Pramaan ID so you can retrieve the certificate and check its status.
#1 Best Overall
The process described here is the current face-authentication route. The official download page lists Android 10.0 or later and iOS 14.0 or later. Face authentication uses the phone’s camera, so a separate fingerprint or iris device is not required for that route.
Use the official Jeevan Pramaan app download page for the current app versions and operating-system requirements. Older guides and FAQ pages can show legacy minimums; the current download page should control your compatibility decision.
Check eligibility before installing anything
Your Pension Sanctioning Authority must be onboarded
The pensioner can use Jeevan Pramaan only when the PSA participates in the service. Check the official onboarded Pension Sanctioning Authority list. The list displayed for this guide is marked “As On 12-10-2026,” so confirm the entry and any later update before beginning.

If the PSA is absent from the list, ask the PDA which conventional life-certificate method it accepts.
Cases the face facility does not cover
The official FAQ says a re-employed or re-married pensioner is not eligible for this DLC facility. Such a pensioner must use the conventional route through the PDA.
The face app can be used only in India. If the pensioner is outside India, do not assume the app will work remotely; contact the PDA about the accepted procedure.

Keep the right information at hand
Incorrect particulars can lead to rejection. Before opening the app, assemble:
- The pensioner’s Aadhaar number or Virtual ID (VID).
- The pensioner’s name and mobile number.
- The Pension Payment Order (PPO) number, if applicable.
- The pension account number and bank details requested by the app.
- The Pension Sanctioning Authority and Pension Disbursing Authority names.
Use the details exactly as held in the pension records. If a field is unclear, verify it with the PDA rather than guessing.
Phone, app and biometric requirements
| Item | Current requirement or option | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Android phone | Android 10.0 or above on the current official download page | The phone can use the face route if the apps install and the device passes the app’s checks. |
| iPhone | iOS 14.0 or above on the current official download page | iOS currently supports face authentication only. |
| Camera | Required for face authentication | The camera captures the pensioner’s face; no separate biometric device is needed for this route. |
| Android external biometric device | Also supported as an Android option through the relevant registered RD service | This is an alternative for someone using a compatible registered device instead of face authentication. |
| Apps | Jeevan Pramaan and AadhaarFaceRd for the face workflow | Install both from the relevant official app store before starting. |
| Eligibility | PSA onboarded and pensioner otherwise eligible | The phone cannot bypass PSA or pension-record requirements. |
The official statement is specific: “The Jeevan Pramaan Face Authentication (Android/iOS) does not require a biometric device, as it uses the mobile phone’s camera to capture the face.” Android users who prefer a hardware biometric route can use an external device, but that is not necessary for face authentication. iOS currently has no equivalent external-device option in the official guidance.
Do you need to buy a phone?
Not necessarily. First check the phone you already have against the current OS requirements and the app listing. No particular phone model is guaranteed by the published material. If the existing phone cannot run the current apps, ask the PDA or a nearby service centre about another accepted route before purchasing a device.
Install the official apps
Android installation
The official Android installation guide describes this order:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Install AadhaarFaceRd, or install the relevant registered RD service if you intend to use an external biometric device.
- Install the Jeevan Pramaan app from the official app listing.
- Open Jeevan Pramaan and complete one-time operator authentication.
- Enter the pensioner’s details and complete the pensioner’s authentication.
Read the official Android face-app installation guide if a screen label differs from the one shown on your phone.

iPhone installation
The iOS guide likewise calls for AadhaarFaceRd followed by Jeevan Pramaan, then operator authentication and pensioner authentication. Use the official iOS face-app guide for the current sequence. The iOS route is face-only, so there is no need to obtain a separate biometric reader for this method.
Use official listings and protect the process
Install only the apps reached through the official Jeevan Pramaan download information and the relevant app store. Do not substitute an unofficial “life certificate” application. The app names, versions and operating-system support can change, which is why the current download page is more reliable than an old installation article.
Generate the certificate at home: exact workflow
Step 1: Decide who will be the operator
The app requires one-time operator authentication before the pensioner’s certificate is created. The pensioner can be the operator, so a second person is not automatically required. A family member or helper may assist with handling the phone, but the pensioner’s own identity and pension information must be entered accurately.
Recommended Free Tools
Step 2: Complete one-time operator authentication
- Open Jeevan Pramaan after both required apps are installed.
- Choose the operator-authentication flow shown by the app.
- Provide the requested Aadhaar-linked operator information and complete the app’s authentication prompts.
- Wait for the app to confirm the one-time operator registration before proceeding.
The exact prompts can vary with the current app release and operating system. Do not treat operator authentication as the pensioner’s certificate: it authorizes use of the app, while the next stage creates the individual DLC.
Step 3: Enter the pensioner’s particulars
- Start a new pensioner registration or certificate-generation transaction.
- Enter the pensioner’s Aadhaar number or VID, name and mobile number.
- Enter the PPO number, pension account number, bank details, PSA and PDA information requested on screen.
- Compare each entry with the pension records before submitting it.
A single wrong digit or mismatched authority can cause rejection. If the app presents a field you cannot verify, stop and ask the PDA for the correct value instead of making an assumption.
Step 4: Complete Aadhaar face authentication
- Grant the camera permission requested by AadhaarFaceRd and Jeevan Pramaan.
- Position the pensioner’s face in the on-screen frame and follow the capture instructions.
- Keep the phone steady and complete the liveness or face-capture prompts displayed by the app.
- Wait for confirmation that the pensioner’s Aadhaar-based face authentication succeeded.
This is the point at which the phone camera substitutes for a separate biometric device. The app’s instructions, rather than an old guide, determine the exact camera position or movement requested by the current release.

Step 5: Submit and record the Pramaan ID
- Review the final summary and submit the transaction.
- When generation succeeds, note the Pramaan ID shown by the app.
- Keep the SMS acknowledgement and store the ID somewhere you can retrieve it later.
The Pramaan ID is the key reference for downloading the PDF and checking the certificate. A successful screen or SMS means the DLC was generated; it does not by itself establish that the PDA has approved it.

Electronic delivery to the paying authority
Jeevan Pramaan makes the generated DLC electronically available to the PDA. The pensioner therefore does not need to print it and physically submit it to a bank or post office merely to deliver the generated certificate.
Electronic delivery and acceptance are separate events. The Pension Sanctioning or Disbursing Authority still applies its approval process and its own validity rules. Keep the Pramaan ID and SMS until the status is confirmed.
Download the PDF and inspect the status
Use the official pensioner certificate download sign-in to retrieve the PDF. The pensioner enters the Pramaan ID or Aadhaar number, generates a one-time password and uses that OTP to sign in. The official page describes the flow as: “The Pensioner can login by providing his Pramaan ID or Aadhaar number to generate a One Time Password and use the same to sign in to the system to download the certificate.”
Open the downloaded certificate and inspect its status. This is the practical way to tell whether the DLC has been accepted or rejected, rather than relying only on the generation confirmation.
Do not use the agency sign-in by mistake
The separate agency and authority sign-in page is for agencies. Pensioners do not need to create an agency account or sign in there to generate their own certificate. Generation occurs in the mobile app; PDF retrieval occurs through the pensioner download flow.

If the certificate is rejected
Incorrect details
The official FAQ advises contacting the PDA when a DLC is rejected because incorrect information was supplied. Correct the particulars with the PDA’s guidance, then generate a new certificate and obtain a new Pramaan ID. Do not keep submitting the same rejected record or assume that editing a downloaded PDF will fix it.
PSA or eligibility problem
If the PSA is not onboarded, or the pensioner is re-employed or re-married, the app route is not a workaround. Ask the PDA for the conventional life-certificate procedure.
App or face-authentication problem
Check that the phone meets the current Android 10.0 or iOS 14.0 requirement, that both official apps are installed, and that you are following the current Android or iOS guide. If the face workflow still cannot be completed, use a Citizen Service Centre or a PDA office such as a post office, bank or treasury. The FAQ identifies those locations as assistance and generation options, and the official portal provides a centre-locator facility.
The published official material does not establish a universal success rate or a guaranteed processing time. A centre may be more practical when the pensioner cannot complete app setup or face capture, but any centre charge depends on the provider; the FAQ does not quantify it.
Validity and renewal
A Jeevan Pramaan certificate is not valid for life. Its validity follows the PSA’s rules. When that period ends, generate a new DLC or follow the alternative method specified by the PDA. Do not wait for a payment interruption to discover that the previous certificate has expired; note the relevant validity date from the certificate or the authority’s instructions.
Choosing the right route
| Route | Phone and device needs | Best fit | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Home face authentication | Android 10.0+ or iOS 14.0+, Jeevan Pramaan, AadhaarFaceRd and a working camera | An eligible pensioner in India who can complete the app and face prompts | PSA onboarding and PDA approval still apply; iOS supports face authentication only. |
| Android external biometric device | Compatible Android setup plus the relevant registered RD service and biometric device | Someone who prefers or already has a supported hardware reader | The device is unnecessary for the face route and compatibility is not guaranteed for every model. |
| Citizen Service Centre | No personal app setup required; the centre provides assistance | A pensioner who needs help with installation, authentication or data entry | Any centre fee is not quantified in the official FAQ; confirm locally. |
| PDA office or conventional route | Follow the bank, post-office or treasury procedure specified by the PDA | People outside India, ineligible categories, unsupported phones or failed digital attempts | The exact documents and process come from the individual PDA. |
All four routes share the same underlying need for correct pension information and the same authority approval. The face app’s India-only availability and the phone’s current operating-system requirement are the main additional constraints for home generation.
Quick Recap
A practical final checklist
- Confirm the PSA appears on the onboarded list marked as of 12 October 2026 or on the latest official update.
- Confirm the pensioner is not excluded as re-employed or re-married and is physically in India for the face-app route.
- Check Android 10.0+ or iOS 14.0+ on the current app download page.
- Install the official Jeevan Pramaan and AadhaarFaceRd apps.
- Have Aadhaar or VID, name, mobile number, PPO and pension-account information, bank details, PSA and PDA details ready.
- Complete operator authentication, then enter the pensioner’s particulars and complete face authentication.
- Record the Pramaan ID and retain the SMS acknowledgement immediately after generation.
- Use the pensioner download page with the Pramaan ID or Aadhaar number and OTP to obtain the PDF.
- Check the PDF status, contact the PDA if it is rejected, and create a new Pramaan ID after correcting wrong particulars.
- Renew when the PSA’s validity period ends, or use a centre or PDA route if the app cannot be completed.
