A Kerala lottery ticket or prize message is not genuine merely because it has a barcode, government logo, matching number or a convincing screenshot. Kerala State Lotteries are paper tickets sold in Kerala through authorized channels. Check the published draw only through the Directorate of State Lotteries’ official website or official mobile app, then have the physical ticket and claim checked by the Directorate or the relevant district lottery office.
Do not buy a ticket through an online link, send money to “release” a prize, or share an OTP, UPI PIN, card security code, banking password or sensitive identity number with an unsolicited caller. If you have already paid an online fraudster, report it immediately on 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in.

What a genuine Kerala lottery ticket and claim involve
The Kerala State Lotteries programme issues paper tickets for sale in Kerala through authorized agents. The department’s LOTIS FAQ states that it has not authorized online sales of these paper tickets. That makes a website checkout, app booking form, WhatsApp offer, Facebook post, Telegram account or other online “ticket seller” a serious warning sign, even when the page uses the Kerala government’s name or logo.

A genuine claim has two separate questions:
- Did the ticket number appear in an official draw? The department’s official website and official mobile app publish or check draw information.
- Is the physical ticket genuine and is the claimant eligible? The Directorate or the appropriate district lottery office must inspect the ticket and apply the current claim rules before payment.
A result lookup answers only the first question. It is not a final approval of a prize.

How can I check whether my Kerala lottery ticket is genuine?
- Keep the original paper ticket. Do not laminate, write on, cut, punch, wash, alter or otherwise handle it in a way that could affect its security features. Do not surrender it to a caller, social-media account or unofficial “agent.”
- Record the details privately. Note the lottery name, draw date, ticket number and any other printed information. Keep a private photograph for your records, but do not post a clear image publicly; it can expose the number and security details to impersonators.
- Check the draw through an official channel. Use the Directorate’s official website or its official mobile app, reached through the Kerala government’s own information channels rather than an advertisement or forwarded link.
- Use the app’s result function correctly. A state announcement dated August 2026 says users can scan a ticket QR code or enter the ticket number to check the draw result. A successful scan or number match confirms that the entered information corresponds to published draw data; it does not by itself prove that the paper ticket has not been forged, altered or duplicated.
- Ask the department to inspect the physical ticket. Contact the Directorate of State Lotteries or the district lottery office responsible for your claim, using contact details obtained independently from the official government site. Ask where to present the original, what documents are currently required and which deadline applies.
- Follow the formal claim process. The rules require the claim officer to ascertain the genuineness of the prize ticket before payment. The office may require surrender of the winning ticket and supporting documents.
Why appearance is not enough
The Directorate explained on July 24, 2026 that every ticket it issues carries 12 security features, including a secret code and a barcode. The public explanation does not provide a complete checklist of all 12 features, so no responsible guide can tell you that one visible mark, color, seal, QR code or barcode proves authenticity.
The department describes trained staff and authorized agents using an Opac test pattern film as part of verification. That examination is different from looking at a photograph on a phone. If there is doubt, let the department make the determination rather than trying to authenticate the ticket yourself.
How do I verify a Kerala lottery result?
Use only the official website or app
Open the Directorate of State Lotteries’ official website or the department’s official mobile app by navigating from a Kerala government source. Avoid links in unsolicited texts, social posts, advertisements and group messages. Government advisories have warned about fake apps, websites and social-media offers that misuse the Kerala lottery name and logo.

Enter or scan the ticket information
The official app information lists result checking, prize checking, claim information and genuineness verification among its lottery services. The August 2026 government announcement says the app can read the ticket QR code or accept the ticket number manually. Check that the lottery name and draw date shown in the result correspond exactly to your paper ticket.
Interpret a match cautiously
A matching number means the number is shown in the published result database. It does not establish that the paper ticket in your possession is an original issue, that it has not been tampered with, or that you meet every claim condition. Payment remains subject to the department’s physical inspection and current rules.
Red flags that indicate a fake ticket offer or prize claim
| What you see | Why it is dangerous | Safe response |
|---|---|---|
| A website, app, WhatsApp, Facebook or Telegram account offers to sell a Kerala paper ticket online. | The LOTIS FAQ says the department has not authorized online sales of Kerala paper lottery tickets. | Do not click the payment link or send money. Buy only through an authorized in-state channel and verify independently. |
| An unexpected message says you won when you cannot identify a ticket bought through an authorized seller. | A prize claim requires a real ticket and formal verification; an unsolicited message is not proof of a win. | Stop communicating through that account and check the official result service yourself. |
| The sender asks for a registration, processing, GST, tax-clearance or security-deposit payment before releasing money. | Kerala’s government advisory says no advance government payment is required to receive a lottery prize. | Pay nothing. Save the message and report it. |
| The caller requests an OTP, UPI PIN, card CVV or security code, banking password or sensitive identity number. | Those credentials can authorize withdrawals or identity theft; they are not a normal way to establish a lottery claim. | End the call, do not reply and report the attempted fraud. |
| A page shows a government logo, letterhead, copied result table, testimonials or a screenshot. | These can be copied. A logo or image does not prove that the sender is a government office or that the ticket is genuine. | Type the official government address yourself and use the department’s published contact route. |
I got a message saying I won the Kerala lottery—what should I do?
- Do not answer the message through its link or phone number. A scammer may keep you on a channel they control and provide a fake “verification” page.
- Ask yourself whether you hold an actual paper ticket. A message alone cannot create a valid claim. If you do not have a ticket purchased through an authorized channel, treat the message as fraudulent.
- Check the draw independently. Enter the ticket number on the official app or website, not on the page supplied by the sender.
- Do not transfer any advance amount. Registration, processing, GST, tax-clearance and security-deposit demands are classic advance-fee tactics. Do not pay even a small “refundable” amount to test the sender.
- Protect your accounts. Never disclose OTPs, UPI PINs, card security details, banking passwords or sensitive identity numbers. If you already shared credentials, contact your bank or payment provider through its official number and secure the account immediately.
- Preserve evidence. Keep screenshots, phone numbers, usernames, payment references, wallet addresses and the original messages. Do not edit the files or forward the scam to other people.
- Report quickly. Call 1930 for an online financial scam and submit details at cybercrime.gov.in. Speed matters when a payment may still be traceable or stoppable.
Do I have to pay a fee to claim a Kerala lottery prize?
You should not pay an unsolicited person or website an advance “government” fee to release a Kerala lottery prize. The government advisory specifically warns about registration fees, processing fees, GST or tax-clearance fees and security deposits presented as prerequisites for payment.

This does not mean a stranger can determine your tax position or claim costs. If you believe you have a winning ticket, ask the Directorate or district lottery office about the currently applicable claim procedure, documents, deadline and any lawful deductions handled through the official process. Make payments, if an official office ever directs one, only through a verifiable government channel and after independently confirming the instruction.

What to do if you hold a possible winning ticket
Protect the paper ticket
Keep it flat and dry in a secure place. Do not give it to an intermediary for “checking,” mail it to an address supplied in a message, or post a full image online. A genuine office can tell you where and how to present it.
Contact the correct office
Use the Directorate of State Lotteries’ official government contact details or the relevant district lottery office. Explain the lottery, draw date and ticket number without sending sensitive banking information to an unverified contact. Ask which office has jurisdiction, the submission deadline and the current list of identity and supporting documents.

Expect a physical and documentary check
The department’s rules state that prize money is paid after ascertaining the genuineness of the prize ticket. The claim process can require surrender of the winning ticket and supporting documents. Rules and office procedures can be amended, so confirm the version that applies to your draw rather than relying on an old social-media post or a forwarded PDF.
Understand the risk of damage or alteration
The rules say tampered or mutilated tickets may be rejected. Where there is a serious doubt about genuineness, the ticket may be sent for forensic examination under the applicable rule. Do not assume that a tear automatically guarantees rejection or acceptance; ask the lottery office for a formal decision.
The rules also state: “Prize money shall be paid after ascertaining the genuineness of the Prize Ticket.” They provide that “Criminal action shall be taken against those who produce forged ticket.” Those provisions are why an unofficial person cannot validly “approve” a ticket in exchange for money.

Which channel does what?
| Channel | What it can do | What it cannot establish |
|---|---|---|
| Official Kerala lottery website | Show official draw information and department notices. | Replace physical inspection of a ticket or decide a claimant’s eligibility by itself. |
| Official lottery mobile app | Check a result by QR scan or ticket-number entry and provide lottery-service information. | Guarantee that a paper ticket presented later is genuine merely because a number matches. |
| Directorate of State Lotteries or district lottery office | Examine the original ticket, apply the current rules and explain the claim route. | Authorize an unsolicited caller or social-media account to collect advance fees. |
| 1930 and cybercrime.gov.in | Receive reports of online financial fraud and attempted cybercrime. | Authenticate a lottery ticket or pay a prize. |
Common situations and the correct next step
“The QR code opens a page, so the ticket must be real.”
No. A QR code can point to copied content or simply contain a number that a counterfeiter reproduces. Use the official app’s result function, then have the original inspected by the department.
“The number appears in a result screenshot sent by a friend.”
A screenshot is not an official verification channel and can be edited or taken from a different draw. Check the result yourself on the official website or app.
“The caller knows my name and ticket number.”
Those details may have been copied from a public post, purchased list or previous conversation. Do not provide OTPs, PINs or identity documents. End the call and use independently sourced government contact details.
“I bought the ticket from someone online and it won.”
Online sale conflicts with the department’s stated channel for Kerala paper tickets. Preserve all payment and message evidence, do not send more money and ask the Directorate whether the physical ticket can be examined. Report any financial loss through 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in.
“The ticket is torn, faded or marked.”
Do not repair or alter it. The rules allow rejection of tampered or mutilated tickets and permit forensic examination where genuineness is seriously questioned. Present it to the lottery office and request a formal determination.
A practical checklist before you hand over money or documents
- Do I have the original paper ticket, and was it obtained through an authorized in-state channel?
- Did I reach the result page or app independently rather than through a message link?
- Have I separated result matching from physical-ticket authentication?
- Has a real Directorate or district lottery office told me how to submit the claim?
- Is anyone demanding an advance registration, processing, GST, tax-clearance or security-deposit payment?
- Has anyone asked for an OTP, UPI PIN, card security code, banking password or sensitive identity number?
- Have I preserved the ticket and evidence without posting a full image publicly?
- If money was sent, have I called 1930 and reported at cybercrime.gov.in without delay?
The safest rule
Use the official app or website to check what draw information says, but rely on the Directorate of State Lotteries or the relevant district lottery office to decide whether the physical ticket and claim are genuine. A convincing message, logo, screenshot, QR scan or matching number cannot replace that official inspection.
