TradingView alerts notify you when a market price or technical condition reaches a rule you define. To create one, open a symbol in Supercharts, choose Create alert, set the condition, frequency, expiry, message and notifications, then save it. Price alerts watch a specified level; technical alerts watch indicators, strategies, drawing tools or chart patterns. Existing alerts keep the indicator settings that were present when they were created, so changing an indicator later requires editing or recreating its alert.
What a TradingView alert does
An alert is a notification condition, not a forecast, order or guarantee of execution. It tells you that the selected market data met a rule at the chosen time. You still decide whether to investigate, enter, exit or do nothing.

TradingView separates alerts into three broad categories:

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Price alerts: monitor a symbol against a numerical level, such as an equity crossing $100.
- Technical alerts: monitor an indicator, strategy, drawing tool or chart pattern. RSI, moving averages and community-created indicators fall into this category.
- Watchlist alerts: apply a condition across symbols in a watchlist. Their availability and controls can differ from single-symbol alerts.
TradingView says alerts can be created for more than 1,000 indicators, including community-created indicators. The available operators, frequencies and expiry choices depend on the alert type and the condition being monitored.

Before you create an alert
Open the correct chart
Sign in to TradingView and open the desired symbol in Supercharts. Confirm the exchange, contract, currency and timeframe shown on the chart. A similarly named symbol can represent a different listing or derivative, so verify it before setting a level.
Make the condition visible
Add the indicator you intend to monitor and set its inputs first. If you are using a drawing-based condition, place and adjust the drawing before creating the alert. The alert records the indicator state at creation; later changes do not silently update it.
Know where the Create alert dialog is
You can open the dialog from the upper toolbar, Alert manager, a chart context menu, a keyboard shortcut or the plus button beside the price scale. The exact control can vary slightly between web, desktop and mobile layouts, but the saved alert is available across supported devices when you use the same account.

How to set a TradingView price alert
- Open the symbol. Load the market in Supercharts and check that the chart is on the intended instrument.
- Open Create alert. Use the upper-toolbar alert button, Alert manager, the chart context menu or the plus sign beside the price scale.
- Select the symbol and price condition. In Condition, choose the symbol and an operator such as Crossing, Crossing up, Crossing down, Greater than or Less than.
- Enter the threshold. Type the price level that should trigger the alert. Check the displayed quote and decimal precision so the value represents the level you actually intend.
- Choose the frequency. Select an available option such as Only once, Every time, Once per bar close or Once per minute. Not every frequency is offered for every alert type.
- Set an expiry. Choose an expiration date or an open-ended alert when that option is offered. Open-ended alerts are not available for watchlist alerts.
- Name and describe it. Replace the default name with something unambiguous, such as “EUR/USD above 1.1000—London session.” Add a message that explains what happened and what you want to check next.
- Choose notifications and save. Select the notification methods available in your account, review the summary, and save the alert.
Choosing a price operator
| Operator | Meaning | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Crossing | Triggers when price moves through the level in either direction. | Notify when a support or resistance level is breached either way. |
| Crossing up | Triggers when price crosses from below to above the level. | Monitor an upside break. |
| Crossing down | Triggers when price crosses from above to below the level. | Monitor a downside break. |
| Greater than | Triggers when price is above the specified value. | Track entry into an upper price zone. |
| Less than | Triggers when price is below the specified value. | Track entry into a lower price zone. |
A crossing rule describes a transition through a level; it is not the same as a rule that remains true simply because price is already above or below it. If you need a notification only when the level is crossed, use a directional crossing rather than a broad greater-than or less-than condition.
How to create an indicator alert
- Configure the indicator first. Add the indicator to the chart and set its length, source, smoothing and other inputs exactly as you want them monitored.
- Open the indicator menu. Right-click the indicator on the chart and choose Add alert. You can also open Alert manager and select the indicator under Condition.
- Select a preset or custom rule. Many indicators expose ready-made conditions. Otherwise choose the relevant plot, operator and comparison value in the dialog.
- Choose the trigger frequency. Select one of the frequencies offered for that technical condition, such as only once, every time, once per bar close or once per minute.
- Set the expiration and message. Use a fixed date or an open-ended setting where available, then give the alert a useful name and message.
- Choose notification channels and save. Review the indicator name, inputs and condition before confirming.
Technical operators can include crossing, directional crossing, greater than, less than, channel entry or exit, inside or outside a channel, and movement by an amount or percentage within a specified number of bars. The choices shown depend on the indicator’s plots and the technical alert type.

Example: an RSI threshold
To monitor a 14-period RSI for a move below 30, add RSI, leave or set its length to 14, choose Add alert, select the RSI plot, choose Less than, enter 30, select a frequency and save. If you instead choose Crossing down, the alert is tied to the move through 30 rather than simply to the RSI being below 30.
Example: a moving-average cross
Add the moving averages with their intended lengths, then create an alert on the relevant plot or on a built-in cross condition if the indicator provides one. Specify whether you want an upward cross, downward cross or either direction. Confirm which plot is selected when an indicator displays more than one line.

Frequency controls how often TradingView may notify you after the condition is met. The labels are not interchangeable:
| Frequency | What it is for | Important consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Only once | A one-time notification for the alert’s lifetime. | Useful for a single level or event; it will not notify again unless you edit or recreate it. |
| Every time | Notifications whenever the condition qualifies again. | Can generate repeated messages in a fast market. |
| Once per bar close | Checks for confirmation at the close of each applicable bar. | Reduces intrabar signals but arrives later than a live-bar trigger. |
| Once per minute | Limits notifications to one per minute where offered. | Useful when a condition can remain true or fluctuate repeatedly. |
An intrabar condition can be true temporarily and then disappear before the candle closes. A bar-close setting waits for confirmation according to the chart’s data and timeframe, so it can avoid some transient signals at the cost of speed. Select the behavior that matches your method instead of assuming that every alert waits for a candle close.
Expiration, names and notification methods
Expiration
Use a fixed expiration when the rule is relevant only for a defined event, session or trading plan. Choose an open-ended alert when you want it to remain active and that option is available. Watchlist alerts do not support open-ended expiration, so they require a defined end date.

Messages and placeholders
TradingView supports placeholders that insert values into an alert message. Use them to include changing information, such as the symbol or value that triggered the condition, rather than typing a number that may be stale. Keep the message operational: identify the rule, the chart or timeframe you care about, and the next check you intend to make.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Notifications
Select the channels displayed in your account’s dialog. Depending on the alert and account configuration, TradingView can deliver notifications in supported web, desktop and mobile contexts. Test the chosen channel with a non-critical alert before relying on it for time-sensitive monitoring, and keep device notification permissions enabled.
What happens when you edit an indicator
Indicator alerts capture the indicator parameters at the moment the alert is created. TradingView’s Help Center states that if an indicator’s parameters are changed after an alert is created, the alert still triggers using the old settings.
For example, suppose an RSI alert was created with length 14 and you later change the chart’s RSI to length 21. The existing alert continues to evaluate the length-14 configuration. The visible chart and the alert can therefore show different conditions.
To align the alert with new inputs:
- Open Alert manager and locate the technical alert.
- Inspect its condition and recorded indicator settings.
- Edit the alert if the dialog permits you to update the condition, then save it.
- If the original parameters cannot be changed in the editor, delete the old alert and create a new one after configuring the indicator.
- Rename the replacement so you can distinguish it from any remaining alert with the old settings.
Make this check part of any strategy change. Changing a chart layout, timeframe or indicator input does not by itself prove that every existing alert uses the new configuration.

Using Pine Script for custom alerts
Built-in conditions cover common price and indicator rules. A Pine Script indicator or strategy can define more specific events with alertcondition() and alert().
alertcondition()
alertcondition() exposes a script-defined Boolean condition to the Create alert dialog. You can then select that condition and use the dialog’s available alert settings. This is useful when you want a named, reusable condition to appear alongside other technical choices.
alert()
alert() lets the script issue a message when its code reaches the function. With this approach, the script controls the triggering frequency and message through its calls rather than relying on the Create alert dialog for those details. Read the script’s logic carefully: a condition evaluated on every update can behave differently from one deliberately evaluated at bar close.
Safe workflow for a custom script
- Open or write the Pine Script and identify exactly where the condition becomes true.
- Decide whether the logic should use realtime updates or confirmed bar closes.
- Define the message and frequency in the script when using
alert(), or expose a clear condition withalertcondition(). - Add the script to the chart and create the alert from the script’s available condition.
- Test it on a non-critical threshold and verify that the received message matches the intended symbol, timeframe and event.
Single-symbol alerts versus watchlist alerts
A single-symbol alert follows one instrument and is appropriate when a particular price, indicator or drawing on one chart matters. A watchlist alert applies a condition across multiple symbols and is useful for screening a group, but it has different availability and expiry rules. In particular, open-ended alerts are unavailable for watchlist alerts.

Troubleshooting alerts that do not behave as expected
The alert never triggers
- Reopen the alert and verify the symbol, exchange and threshold.
- Check whether you selected Crossing up or Crossing down when you needed the opposite direction or either direction.
- For an indicator, confirm that the alert points to the intended plot and that its recorded inputs match the chart.
- Check the expiration date and whether the alert is enabled in Alert manager.
- Compare the chosen frequency with the event. A bar-close alert will not notify during a temporary intrabar move that reverses before close.
The alert triggers too often
- Replace Every time with Only once, Once per bar close or Once per minute when that better matches your goal.
- Use a directional crossing instead of a broad condition when you need a single transition.
- For scripts, inspect whether
alert()is called repeatedly while the condition remains true. - Review the number of symbols in a watchlist alert before assuming the notifications represent one market.
The chart and alert disagree
- Compare the current indicator inputs with the settings captured when the alert was created.
- Remember that changing the visible indicator does not update the existing alert.
- Edit or recreate the alert after a parameter, source or smoothing change.
- Check the chart timeframe and the alert’s technical condition; a rule evaluated on another timeframe can produce different events.
No notification arrives on the device
- Confirm that the alert itself is active and not expired.
- Verify that the selected notification method is enabled in the account and that the device or browser allows notifications.
- Use a harmless test alert to distinguish a condition problem from a delivery-permission problem.
- Check the alert log or manager for a recorded trigger even if the device did not display it.
How to design alerts that are useful
Write the decision into the message
A message such as “Check breakout setup” is more useful than a bare number. Include the rule and context, for example: “NQ crossing down prior-day low; verify volume and risk plan.” Placeholders can add the live symbol or value supported by TradingView.
Separate detection from action
Use an alert to bring attention to a condition, then apply your own confirmation, position sizing and risk rules. A price crossing a level does not establish why it moved, whether the move will continue or whether a trade is suitable.
Match frequency to market speed
Fast intraday monitoring may require an intrabar setting, while a slower technical method may be clearer with once-per-bar-close confirmation. If repeated updates would distract you, use a one-time or rate-limited option.
Audit alerts after every chart change
Keep a short inventory of active alerts, their symbols, conditions, indicator inputs and expiry dates. After changing a parameter or replacing an indicator, compare that inventory with Alert manager and remove obsolete rules.
Important limits to keep in mind
TradingView describes alerts as timely notifications about market events; they do not predict direction, guarantee that a market will continue moving, or guarantee order execution. Delivery can also be affected by device, browser or account notification settings. Do not treat the existence of an alert as confirmation that a trade was filled.
Alert quotas and other plan-specific limits are not listed here because they can change. Check the current limits shown for your TradingView account before designing a large alert set. The setup process itself remains the same: define the condition, choose its timing and lifetime, configure the message and notification channel, then verify the saved rule.
