You can stop refreshing crypto charts by creating a target-price alert in an exchange or portfolio-tracking app. Choose the asset or trading pair, set an above- or below-price condition (or a documented percentage condition), save it, and allow notifications in both the app and your phone or computer. Coinbase, Binance, CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap all document versions of this workflow, but their menus, limits and delivery options differ.
An alert is a notification that tells you to review the market. It is not an automatic trade, and no provider cited here promises that a message will arrive at the exact instant a market level is crossed.

What a crypto price alert does
A price alert watches a selected cryptocurrency or trading pair and sends a notification when the provider’s condition is met. The condition might be a price moving above a target, falling below one, reaching a specific level, changing by a percentage or moving by a stated amount over 24 hours.
The practical benefit is attention management: you define the level that matters, then stop checking charts until the app contacts you. You still need to open the app and decide what to do after the notification. Coinbase states that its alerts “do not place an order for that asset” and are informational rather than investment advice. Read the corresponding provider’s terms because trigger timing and delivery can vary with market data, connectivity, device settings and app versions.

Decide what to monitor before opening an app
A few choices prevent most setup mistakes.
Choose the exact asset and trading pair
“Bitcoin price” can mean BTC quoted in U.S. dollars, euros, a stablecoin or another currency. Select the pair that matches the currency you use for budgeting or trading. Exchange alerts generally follow a trading pair; independent trackers may present an asset-level price based on their own market-data sources.
Pick a condition that answers a real question
- Above a target: useful when you want to know that a recovery or breakout level has been reached.
- Below a target: useful for a risk threshold or a planned review point.
- Percentage or 24-hour change: useful when the size of the move matters more than one absolute price; availability depends on the service.
- Recurring versus one-time: recurring alerts continue to notify you when supported, while a one-time alert stops after it fires.
Choose a channel you will actually notice
Push notifications are usually fastest to notice on a phone, while an in-app inbox gives you a record to review later. Some services also offer email. Enabling an alert inside an app is not enough if the operating system has denied that app notification permission.
Set up a price alert in Coinbase
Coinbase’s documented mobile flow requires the asset to be on a watchlist before its alert can send. Menu labels can vary by region and app version; the following path reflects Coinbase Help’s instructions.
- Open the Coinbase mobile app and search for the cryptocurrency you want to follow.
- Select the asset and add it to a watchlist.
- Open the asset page and tap the bell-plus icon.
- Choose Add Alert.
- Select whether the trigger is when the price moves above or below a level, then enter the target price and confirm the quote currency.
- Tap Save.
The requirement to watch the asset is easy to miss: an alert attached to an un-watched asset will not send according to Coinbase’s help documentation. The full setup and explanation are in Coinbase’s price-alert guide.

Choose Coinbase delivery options
To control how alerts arrive, open Account & Settings → Notification Settings. Coinbase separates predetermined alerts from custom alerts and lists available push, in-app and/or email toggles. Turn on at least one channel, and make sure your phone’s system-level permission for Coinbase is enabled.
Delete or change a Coinbase alert
Return to Account & Settings → Notification Settings, open the relevant alert category and remove or edit the alert. If a target is no longer meaningful, changing it is preferable to leaving an old threshold active. Coinbase’s documentation for notification controls is included at the same price-alert support page.
Set up a price alert in Binance
Binance’s documented price-alert feature is available in Binance Pro. The app flow uses a selected trading pair and lets you choose a condition and frequency.

- Search for and select the trading pair, such as the pair that matches your chosen quote currency.
- Tap Alert.
- Choose the alert type, enter the target value and select the frequency offered for that condition.
- Tap Create Alert.
- In your phone’s system settings, allow Binance notifications; Binance’s instructions require device notifications to be enabled.
On the desktop app, open the Alerts icon, choose Create Alert, then select the market or pair, condition and frequency. The documented choices include reaching a price, rising above a price, dropping to a price, percentage change over or under a threshold, and 24-hour change up or down. Binance alert limits and expiration
Binance Support’s general alert page, updated January 6, 2026, lists the following operational limits. These are service rules, not market rules, and can change; check the limits shown in your account.

If a long-term target matters, put a calendar reminder near the expiration date rather than assuming the alert remains indefinitely.
Use an independent tracking app instead of an exchange
A tracking app can be preferable when you want market notifications without relying on an exchange account’s interface. It may also let you watch assets held across several services. Feature availability, data sources and menu names can change, so follow the current in-app prompts.
CoinGecko
CoinGecko describes mobile target-price alerts for cryptocurrencies and NFTs. In its documented flow, select an asset, open the price-alert control, enter the target and choose either Once or a recurring option when offered. CoinMarketCap
CoinMarketCap’s notification settings provide per-coin app alerts and global notification controls. Its documentation says notifications appear in the app’s inbox and on devices where you are signed in. Select a coin, configure the threshold or other available condition, save it, then review both the app settings and your device permission. The settings page is CoinMarketCap’s notification center.

A repeatable setup checklist for any provider
- Name the decision first. Write down what you will review when the alert fires, such as checking a planned purchase level or reassessing a position. This keeps you from creating dozens of meaningless thresholds.
- Confirm the quote currency. A target of 50,000 in one currency is not the same level in another. Read the pair symbol before saving.
- Select the direction. Above and below are not interchangeable; verify the direction in the confirmation screen.
- Set one-time or recurring behavior. Use one-time for a single review point and recurring only when repeated notifications are genuinely useful.
- Save and verify the alert list. Look for the new target in the provider’s alert-management screen rather than assuming a tap succeeded.
- Enable app and device permissions. Check the app’s notification toggles, the operating system’s notification permission and any battery or focus mode that could suppress delivery.
- Review expiry and limits. Binance documents 90-day validity and numerical caps; other providers may have different rules that are shown in their settings.
- Reassess stale thresholds. Delete targets tied to an old plan so an outdated notification does not distract you.
How to design alerts that reduce screen checking
Use a small ladder of meaningful levels
Instead of placing an alert at every round number, choose a few levels connected to decisions: one for a potential entry review, one for a risk review and one for a major upside objective. A small set is easier to maintain and less likely to produce notification fatigue.
Separate price alerts from volatility alerts
An absolute target answers “Has the market reached this level?” A percentage or 24-hour-change alert answers “Has the market moved unusually far?” Use the latter only where the provider documents it, as Binance does. They serve different purposes and should not be treated as equivalent signals.

Match frequency to your time horizon
A recurring alert can help someone monitoring a broad range, while a one-time alert may be better for a single planned review. If your plan is measured in months, check whether the service expires alerts and schedule a renewal review.

Remember that a notification is not a price guarantee
Crypto markets can move between the time a condition is met and the time a message appears or you open the app. Use the alert to inspect the current quote, order book and any other information you normally require before acting.
When an alert does not arrive
The alert never appears in the app
- Open the provider’s alert list and confirm the target was saved and is still active.
- For Coinbase, confirm the asset remains on a watchlist, because Coinbase says unwatched assets do not send the alert.
- For Binance, verify that you are using the Pro interface and that the alert has not reached its 90-day expiry or account limit.
The app shows the alert but the phone stays silent
- Open the app’s notification settings and enable the relevant price-alert category.
- Open the phone’s system settings, find the app, and allow notifications.
- Check Do Not Disturb, Focus, notification summaries and any battery-management setting that delays the app.
- Confirm that you are signed in to the same account on the device where you expect the message.
The wrong market level triggers
- Check the asset and trading-pair symbol, including the quote currency.
- Check whether you selected above or below.
- Review the provider’s displayed price source and decimal precision; different services can show slightly different quotes.
You receive too many messages
Delete duplicate targets, replace several nearby thresholds with one decision level, or change a recurring alert to one-time if the app supports that choice. Keep only alerts tied to a decision you can explain.
Binance P2P alerts are a separate feature
If you buy or sell through peer-to-peer advertisements, Binance has a different alert tool for P2P ad prices. It tracks the advertised price for a fiat–crypto pair, not the ordinary spot-market alert flow described above.

- Open your Profile.
- Choose Custom Alerts → Price Alert.
- Select the fiat-crypto pair and target conditions, then save.
- Enable device notifications so the alert can be delivered.
The separate P2P support page, updated September 4, 2026, lists a maximum of 50 P2P alerts and a 90-day expiration. Confirm the current limits in your account at Binance’s P2P price-alert guide.
Availability, privacy and account safety
The reviewed help pages do not establish identical availability in every country, operating system or account type. A menu can differ because of region, product mode, account status or app version. If a documented control is missing, update the app through its normal store, check whether you are in the required mode (such as Binance Pro), and consult the provider’s current support page.
Notifications can expose an asset name or price on a locked screen. If that matters to you, use the operating system’s option to hide sensitive notification content while retaining the alert, and secure the account with the provider’s supported sign-in protections. Never give a purported alert message your password, recovery phrase or one-time security code.

No single provider is universally best. Compare the service you already use, the condition you need, delivery channels, alert caps and expiry rules, then test one alert before relying on a larger set.
