Yes—you can set a notification for a Nasdaq-listed stock or ETF in most brokerage and charting apps. Search the ticker, open its quote or chart, choose the platform’s alert control (such as Set an Alert, Price Alerts, Price Trigger, or a bell icon), define the condition, select how you want to be notified, and save it. The alert tells you that a condition occurred; it does not place an order or tell you what to do next.
The exact choices differ by platform. A price-above or price-below trigger is the most widely supported option. Percentage moves, 52-week highs or lows, earnings, news, volume, moving averages, and other technical conditions are available only where that service documents them.

What a Nasdaq price alert does—and does not do
A price alert watches a selected security and sends a push notification, email, or in-app message when your chosen condition is met. The security can be a Nasdaq-listed common stock, an exchange-traded fund (ETF), or another instrument supported by the platform. You do not need to own the security on every platform; some services let you alert on anything you can search or add to a watchlist, while account and instrument eligibility can vary.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsAn alert is separate from an order. It does not buy or sell shares, reserve cash, guarantee an execution price, or protect you from a gap in the market. After receiving the notification, you still decide whether to research, place an order, change an existing position, or do nothing. Robinhood’s support documentation states: “Notifications are provided for informational purposes only, and aren’t a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any particular security.”

The portable alert condition
“Price above” and “price below” are the most consistent choices across brokerage apps. For example, you could ask to be notified when an ETF rises above $200 or when a stock falls below $150. More specialized conditions depend on the platform, your device, and sometimes the desktop or mobile edition you are using.
What can prevent a notification
- Your phone or browser may block notifications, or the app may not have permission to send them.
- The service may be unavailable briefly, or your device may be offline when a push message is attempted.
- An alert can expire, trigger once and stop, or be configured with a repeat frequency you did not intend.
- A mobile, web, desktop, or linked trading platform may keep a separate alert list rather than sharing every alert.
- Prices can move through a threshold outside regular hours, but the app’s trigger rules may differ for premarket, after-hours, and regular sessions.
Set up an alert in five steps
- Find the symbol. Search the exact ticker in your brokerage or charting app. Confirm the company or fund name and exchange listing before creating the alert; similarly named securities can have different symbols.
- Open the quote or chart. Look for Set an Alert, Price Alerts, Price Trigger, a bell icon, or a notifications menu.
- Choose the condition. Start with a target price above or below the current quote. If the platform supports them, you may instead choose a percentage move, 52-week level, earnings or news event, volume, moving average, indicator, strategy, or drawing-tool condition.
- Select delivery. Choose push, email, or in-app delivery. Confirm that the account has the right email address and that notification permissions are enabled in the phone, desktop, browser, and app settings you use.
- Save and verify. Open the platform’s alert manager and confirm the symbol, threshold, direction, delivery method, repeat behavior, and expiration. Give the alert a clear name, such as “QQQ above 500” or “AAPL below 180,” so stale thresholds are easy to identify later.
How to set alerts in Robinhood
Robinhood’s documented workflow is available from an asset chart. It supports custom price thresholds plus several preset and event-style notifications.
Steps
- Search for the stock or ETF and open its asset chart.
- Tap or click the bell icon or Notifications.
- Choose Price alerts, then select Add alert.
- Set the chosen price above or below the target value and save.
- Return to the asset’s notification area or the app’s alert controls to review or remove it.
Other Robinhood conditions
Current support documentation also describes stock-movement thresholds of 5% or 10%, notifications for a new 52-week high or low, and indicator alerts. Robinhood can send email notifications for significant movements, while custom alerts are sent as push notifications. Delivery remains dependent on service availability and your app and phone settings, so a saved alert should not be treated as a guaranteed real-time message.

Schwab Mobile separates the creation and management screens from the main quote view. You can create a target-price alert or an event alert such as an earnings report.
Steps in Schwab Mobile
- Open Markets and search for the ticker.
- Open the security’s quote page and tap Set an Alert.
- Choose Target price, select the direction, enter the price, and save.
- To monitor an event instead, use the same alert screen to choose News and events, then select the available event type, such as an earnings report.
- Tap the profile icon and open Stock Alerts to review open alerts.
Triggered alerts appear in the Triggered alerts tab. Schwab says triggered mobile alerts are retained for up to 30 days. That history is not a permanent trade journal, so record important notifications elsewhere if you need a longer record.

Schwab synchronization warning
Schwab explicitly states that mobile alerts are not synchronized with alerts created in thinkorswim or on Schwab.com. If you use more than one Schwab interface, inspect each interface’s alert list rather than assuming a change in one place changed every other list.
How to set alerts in Fidelity
Fidelity’s Active Trader tools support price alerts on stocks and ETFs. The documented choices include a move above or below a target and a percentage change measured from the previous close. Fidelity says these alerts are available in its mobile app and can be delivered as push notifications.
Mobile and Active Trader workflow
- Search for the stock or ETF and open its quote or alert controls.
- Choose the price-alert option in Active Trader tools.
- Select a move above or below a target, or choose a percentage change since the previous close where that option is offered.
- Enter the threshold, select push delivery if desired, and save.
- Review the active-alert list after saving and after any change to the security or threshold.
Additional Trader+ Desktop conditions
Fidelity Trader+ Desktop additionally lists dollar or percentage movement, new 52-week highs and lows, and crosses of the 20-day, 50-day, and 200-day exponential moving averages (EMAs). An EMA alert is different from a fixed price alert: it triggers when the price crosses a moving average that changes as new data arrives. If you use one, name the alert with the period—for example, “ETF crosses 50-day EMA”—so you can distinguish it from a $50 target.
How to set alerts in TradingView
TradingView is built around chart-based alerts and supports more than simple price thresholds. Alerts work across the web, desktop, and mobile apps, subject to the account’s available limits and settings.
Steps
- Open the symbol’s chart and select the alert-creation control.
- Choose a price condition or select an indicator, strategy, or drawing-tool condition.
- Set the operator and value. TradingView documents 13 common alert operator types, so check whether you need a crossing, entering, exiting, greater-than, less-than, or another relationship rather than a simple one-time level.
- Choose the trigger frequency: once, every time, once per bar close, or once per minute, where available.
- Set an expiration date. An open-ended option is available subject to watchlist limitations.
- Choose the delivery channels offered on your account, save, and review the alert list.
“Once per bar close” can help avoid repeated intrabar notifications when a price briefly crosses a level and then reverses. “Every time” is more sensitive and can generate multiple messages as the condition repeatedly becomes true. Select the behavior that matches the decision you plan to make.

Use a fixed target price for a specific decision
A fixed threshold is appropriate when a number itself matters. An investor waiting to review an ETF near $200 could set an alert below $200; someone monitoring a breakout could set one above a resistance level. Add the direction explicitly. “Above $200” and “below $200” are separate conditions and should not be treated as interchangeable.
Use a percentage alert for proportional moves
A percentage condition scales with the security’s price and is useful when the size of the move matters more than a particular dollar level. Fidelity documents percentage change since the previous close, while Robinhood documents 5% and 10% stock-movement thresholds. Those are not necessarily calculated in the same way, so read the platform’s label before relying on the result.
Use 52-week levels for range monitoring
A 52-week-high or 52-week-low alert can flag a new extreme without requiring you to calculate a target. Robinhood and Fidelity document 52-week options, but availability can depend on the specific tool. A new high is an observation, not proof that a trend will continue.
Use earnings and news alerts for event risk
Schwab Mobile documents news-and-event alerts, including earnings reports. Such an alert tells you that an event is approaching or has been reported; it does not predict the size or direction of the resulting price move. If the event is important, confirm the date and time in the company’s investor-relations materials or the platform’s event calendar.

Use moving-average and technical alerts for a rule-based process
Fidelity Trader+ Desktop documents 20-, 50-, and 200-day EMA crosses. TradingView can monitor indicators, strategies, and drawing tools. These conditions are dynamic: the indicator value changes as new market data arrives, and the same chart can produce different outcomes depending on timeframe, calculation settings, and trigger frequency. Record those settings in the alert name or notes.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Will an alert work outside regular market hours?
Do not assume that every alert watches every trading session. The documentation summarized here describes alert creation and delivery but does not establish one universal premarket or after-hours rule across Robinhood, Schwab, Fidelity, and TradingView. Each platform may expose a session setting, use a default session, or restrict particular conditions.
Before relying on an overnight or extended-hours alert, inspect the alert form for a session or “outside regular trading hours” choice. Check whether the quote itself is updating in that session and whether the condition is based on the last trade, a delayed quote, or another reference. If the form does not state the session behavior, treat the alert’s coverage as uncertain and monitor the platform’s notifications and help information.
Keep alerts reliable and organized
Verify permissions on every delivery device
- Enable notifications for the brokerage or charting app in the phone’s operating-system settings.
- Allow alerts in the app itself and confirm that focus, do-not-disturb, battery-saving, or background-data rules are not silencing it.
- For email, verify the address, spam folder, and any filtering rule.
- For browser or desktop alerts, allow the site or application to send notifications and keep the relevant session signed in when required.
Use a naming convention
Include the ticker, condition, threshold, and timeframe in the name: “ETF below 200—daily review” is more useful than “Alert 1.” For a technical condition, include the indicator and period, such as “Stock crosses 50-day EMA.” Clear names make it easier to remove obsolete levels after a split, fund change, completed trade, or changed plan.
Test the workflow without creating noise
After saving, confirm that the alert appears as active and that the selected delivery method is shown. Do not set an artificially close threshold merely to test a live security unless you accept the possibility of a real trigger. Instead, use the platform’s documented preview or notification settings when available, then verify that your device can receive ordinary app notifications.

Review stale and triggered alerts
Price levels become irrelevant after an earnings release, a major market move, a position change, or a revised investment plan. Review active alerts periodically, delete those that no longer represent a decision, and check triggered-alert history after a notification. Schwab’s mobile triggered-alert history lasts up to 30 days, so save any record you need beyond that period.
Troubleshooting a missing or unexpected alert
The price crossed, but no notification arrived
- Confirm that the alert is still active and was not configured as a one-time trigger that already fired.
- Check the exact ticker, direction, threshold, expiration, and session setting.
- Review phone, browser, email, and in-app permissions.
- Check whether the platform experienced an outage or whether the device was offline.
- Look in the platform’s triggered-alert history; the message may have been delivered in-app even if a push banner was suppressed.
The alert fired repeatedly
Review the trigger frequency. TradingView, for example, offers “every time,” “once,” “once per bar close,” and “once per minute.” A condition that repeatedly crosses a level can produce repeated messages under an “every time” setting. Change the frequency or disable the alert after the first actionable notification.
The alert appeared in one interface but not another
Check whether the services synchronize their alert lists. Schwab specifically documents that mobile alerts are separate from thinkorswim and Schwab.com alerts. Other platforms can also distinguish mobile, web, and desktop tools, so create and manage the alert in the interface where you expect to receive it.
The quoted price looks different from the trigger price
Quotes can update at different speeds and may represent different sessions or data sources. Compare the alert’s condition with the quote timestamp, session, and chart timeframe. An alert is a notification about the platform’s recorded condition, not a promise that you could have traded at that exact displayed price.
Practical setups for common investor needs
Watching a Nasdaq ETF without owning it
- Add the ETF to a watchlist or search it directly.
- Create a below-target alert at the price where you intend to reassess valuation or allocation.
- Create a separate above-target alert only if an upward move would change your plan.
- Name both alerts with the ticker and purpose, then remove them if the decision is no longer relevant.
Monitoring a held stock around earnings
- Create a Schwab Mobile news-and-events alert or another platform’s documented earnings alert.
- Add a price alert at a level that would prompt a review, rather than assuming the event itself requires a trade.
- Check whether the alert service covers the session in which the company reports.
- After the report, review and delete the old event and price alerts if your plan has changed.
Following a technical rule
- Choose TradingView or Fidelity Trader+ Desktop when the documented indicator choices match your rule.
- Specify the indicator, period, chart timeframe, operator, and trigger frequency.
- Set an expiration or review date so a temporary signal does not remain active indefinitely.
- Record what action the alert is supposed to prompt; the notification itself is not the strategy.
Costs, account access, and limits
The platform documentation summarized for these services describes alert features and delivery but does not state a universal separate fee for creating a basic price alert. Availability, alert counts, advanced conditions, and delivery channels can depend on the account type, app edition, instrument, region, or subscription. Check the alert screen and the platform’s current terms for your account before relying on a feature, especially open-ended alerts, technical conditions, or desktop tools.
Regardless of the platform, keep a separate record of the decision an alert supports. A notification can arrive late, be missed, or be triggered during a fast market. Treat it as a prompt to evaluate the security, not as an automatic instruction.
