These tools monitor related but different markets, so a crude-oil alert should not be treated as a promise that a particular station will change its price immediately.
What you are actually monitoring
There are two separate alerting jobs. The first is watching a crude benchmark, usually West Texas Intermediate (WTI) or Brent, on a financial chart. The second is watching the retail price of gasoline at stations near you. A WTI or Brent alert tells you that an upstream market has reached a level. A local gasoline service tells you what drivers may pay in a particular area.

The distinction matters because the prices do not move in lockstep. The U.S. Energy Information Administration’s petroleum-price handbook says its forecasting method relates U.S. motor-gasoline wholesale prices more strongly to Brent crude than to WTI. Refining margins, taxes, transportation costs, inventories, seasonality and local competition can delay, weaken or amplify the pass-through from crude to the pump.

- Market threshold: use a WTI or Brent price alert when you need to know that a benchmark has crossed a specific level.
- Household fuel planning: use a local-price source when you need to know whether stations around you are cheaper today.
- Both: pair a crude alert with a local gasoline service if you want context and a practical buying signal.
Set a WTI or Brent threshold alert
TradingView’s official help documentation describes a price alert as a trigger that fires when a price “surpasses or reaches a specific price mark.” The workflow is configurable, but the details of the symbol and alert condition determine whether the notification means what you think it means.
1. Select the exact instrument
- Open your charting service and search for the benchmark you follow, such as WTI or Brent.
- Select the exact symbol rather than assuming that the first search result is the correct feed.
- Confirm the quote currency shown by the platform.
- Check whether the symbol represents a particular futures contract month or another quote type, and record that month if it is displayed.
- Look for a delayed-feed notice. A delayed quote can cause a notification to arrive after the market actually crossed your level.
Using the wrong contract month can make an alert appear inconsistent with another website’s quote. A delayed feed can also make the timestamp less useful for a time-sensitive decision, even though the threshold itself is configured correctly.
2. Choose the trigger logic
TradingView provides several condition types. Pick the one that matches the event you want, rather than relying on a generic crossing condition for every purpose.

If your objective is simply “tell me when the market reaches this number,” use Crossing. If the direction is important, use Crossing up or Crossing down. One-sided choices are useful when you do not want a later move in the opposite direction to produce another type of event.
3. Set frequency and expiry
- Open the price-alert dialog for the selected symbol.
- Enter the threshold and select the condition.
- Choose whether the alert is one-time or recurring.
- Set the timer or expiration date offered by the platform.
- Give the alert a name that identifies the benchmark, direction and purpose.
- Add a custom message if you need to distinguish several alerts.
A one-time alert is appropriate for a single decision, such as waiting for a level before reviewing your budget. A recurring alert is better when you want to monitor repeated crossings, but it can generate noise if the market moves back and forth around the threshold. An expiry prevents an old level from remaining active after your assumptions have changed.
4. Select delivery channels you will notice
TradingView documents app notifications, browser pop-ups, email, webhooks, sound and plain-text delivery. Enable only the channels that fit your workflow. A phone notification may be best for a mobile user; email can create a searchable record; a webhook can pass the event to another system. Sound and browser pop-ups are useful only when the relevant device is open and able to receive them.

Check the platform’s notification permission at both levels: the alert itself and the operating system or browser. A correctly configured alert can still appear silent if app notifications, browser permissions or background activity are disabled.

TradingView also supports watchlist alerts. The same condition is applied independently to each symbol in the list. This is useful when you follow more than one crude benchmark or more than one contract, because you can maintain one rule while still receiving a symbol-specific event. Review the symbols individually before relying on the alert; the watchlist feature does not remove the need to verify currency, contract month or feed status.
6. Place two levels when you need context
Situational awareness often requires an upper and a lower level rather than a single number. Create one alert above the current price and another below it, with clear names such as “WTI upper review” and “WTI lower review.” The two notifications tell you which direction requires attention without forcing you to watch the chart continuously.
Revisit both levels after a major market change. A threshold that was useful before a large move can become either unreachable or so close to the current quote that it creates repeated notifications. Updating the level and its expiry is part of maintaining the alert, not a sign that the original alert failed.

AAA email updates
AAA’s Fuel Prices page offers an email subscription for fuel-price updates and news alerts. It is the simplest option when you want a recurring information stream without configuring a chart condition. The page displayed a national average of $4.3344, with the price identified as of October 15, 2026, when it was checked.

That figure is a national average, not a quote for a particular station. Treat the date and geography as part of the number. An email update can help you notice broad movement, but it does not establish that the station closest to your home has reached a chosen cents-per-gallon threshold.
GasBuddy station discovery and Flash Deals
GasBuddy’s Find Gas workflow is designed to locate stations and compare available station information. Its documented Flash Deals are activated in the app and start a four-hour countdown. You must fill up before the countdown ends and follow the applicable receipt or payment rules.
Flash Deals are deal notifications, not user-defined alerts such as “notify me when gasoline is below a certain price.” Use them when a time-limited offer is useful, and do not confuse activation of a deal with a standing price monitor. The four-hour timer is the operational constraint: after it expires, the original opportunity may no longer be available under the same rules.

The Oil Prices Live App Store listing advertises WTI and Brent tracking, 30-minute updates in its free version and custom commodity alerts delivered by push notification. Those details describe the listing’s offering, not a guarantee that every plan or region has the same limits forever. Verify current availability, update frequency, alert limits and subscription terms in the app store and inside the app before depending on it.
This option is oriented toward commodity monitoring rather than station-by-station gasoline shopping. It can be convenient if you want WTI and Brent in a mobile interface, but it does not replace a local station-price source when your decision is where to fill up.

Match the tool to your goal
When you follow market prices
Use a chart-based alert with a clearly named symbol, a directional condition and an expiry. The key risk is instrument ambiguity: a notification is useful only if you know which benchmark, currency, contract month and feed timing generated it. Add an upper and lower level when both directions matter.

When you budget for household driving
Start with a local-price source rather than assuming that a crude threshold will predict your next fill-up. AAA’s email stream can provide broad context, while a station-finding service can show the choices available in your area. If you also follow crude, keep that alert separate and label it as an upstream signal.
When you are planning a specific fill-up
Use a station-focused workflow close to the time you intend to buy. GasBuddy’s deal mechanism is time-limited, so read the countdown and redemption conditions before activating it. A national average email is useful background but cannot tell you which nearby station is cheapest.
When you want a simple phone notification for crude
The Oil Prices Live listing is designed for mobile commodity tracking and push alerts. Confirm that the update interval and alert allowance meet your needs before relying on the free version. If you require detailed trigger types, expiry controls or multiple delivery channels, a charting service provides the more configurable workflow.

A crude benchmark is an upstream input, not the retail price of finished gasoline. Even when Brent moves in the direction you expect, wholesale and retail prices can respond at different speeds. Refiners’ margins, taxes, transportation, inventory conditions, seasonal formulations and competition among local stations all influence the final price.
The EIA handbook’s Brent relationship is a forecasting observation, not a promise that every station follows Brent on the same day. WTI can still be a useful benchmark for its own market, but an alert on WTI should not be presented as a direct station-price forecast. Pair the benchmark event with a local observation before changing where or when you buy fuel.
Also keep the timestamp in view. A delayed quote, a contract-month change or a local station update arriving at a different time can make two apparently conflicting notifications both accurate for their respective feeds.

Common setup mistakes and fixes
The alert fires in the wrong direction
Check whether you selected Crossing, Crossing up, Crossing down, Greater than or Less than. “Crossing” is bidirectional; a directional condition is not. Edit the condition instead of creating several overlapping alerts that produce duplicate messages.
The quote does not match another website
Compare the exact symbol, quote currency, contract month and delay status. Do not change the threshold until you know that the two services represent the same instrument and timing.
You receive too many notifications
Change a recurring alert to one-time, add an expiry, or move the threshold farther from the current price. If you use both upper and lower levels, give each a distinct name and disable levels that no longer answer a current question.

You receive no notification
Confirm that the alert is active and has not expired. Then check the selected delivery channel, app permissions, browser permissions and device connectivity. For a delayed feed, allow for the stated delay before concluding that the condition failed.
A gasoline “alert” is not a threshold alert
AAA email updates and GasBuddy Flash Deals serve different purposes from a custom chart condition. If you need a specific commodity threshold, use a service that explicitly supports custom alerts.
A maintenance checklist
- Record the benchmark or station source the alert represents.
- For crude, verify symbol, currency, contract month and delay status.
- Make the condition directional only when direction matters.
- Choose one-time or recurring frequency deliberately.
- Set an expiration date and review it after major market changes.
- Use delivery channels that are enabled on the device you actually monitor.
- For gasoline, separate national-average information, local station prices and time-limited deals.
- Check the current terms of any mobile app, including update interval, alert limits and regional availability.
- Interpret a crude notification as context and verify local prices before making a fuel-buying decision.
Bottom line
For a precise WTI or Brent threshold, configure a chart alert with the correct symbol, condition, frequency, expiry and delivery channel. For gasoline near you, use a local station workflow and treat AAA’s email updates as broad context; GasBuddy’s Flash Deals are four-hour offers rather than standing thresholds. The most useful setup combines both layers: a benchmark alert to explain market movement and a local-price source to show what drivers can actually pay.
