To set a Google Flights price alert, search your route and dates, set passengers, cabin and stops, then turn on Track prices. Choose Any dates instead when your schedule is flexible. Sign in to a Google Account so Google can save the tracker and send email. You can change notifications or delete a tracker from Tracked Flights.
What a Google Flights price alert actually does
A Google Flights alert watches the route or flight you searched and emails you when Google detects a meaningful change. The alert is a monitoring service, not a reservation or a price guarantee. When an email arrives, the fare can still change before you reach the airline or booking provider’s checkout page.

Google Travel Help says a tracked route or flight can generate an email when its price changes significantly. Google may also warn that the fare you are seeing is likely to expire and that the replacement fare is likely to be higher. Such a message includes an estimated increase and Google’s confidence in that estimate.
These warnings are useful because waiting can cost more, but they do not mean you must buy immediately. Check the final fare, baggage charges, change and cancellation rules, passenger details and payment total on the provider’s page before paying.

What you need before creating an alert
- The origin and destination airports or cities.
- Your departure and return dates, unless you plan to use Any dates.
- The number of passengers or tickets.
- Your cabin class and preferred number of stops.
- A Google Account sign-in. Google Flights’ saved-tracking page says sign-in is required to track prices and receive alerts.
Decide whether you want to watch one exact itinerary or the broader route. Exact-date tracking is more specific. Flexible tracking can surface a lower route-level minimum, but it is not tied to the exact dates you first considered.
Set an alert for fixed travel dates
Use this workflow when your trip dates cannot move, such as a wedding, exam, cruise departure or fixed vacation leave.
- Open Google Flights.
- Enter your origin, destination and departure and return dates.
- Set the number of stops, cabin class and number of tickets. These settings define the search you are tracking.
- Sign in to your Google Account if you have not already done so.
- For the route results, switch on Track prices.
- Confirm that the tracker reflects the dates and search filters you actually need.
Google Travel Help identifies Track prices as the control for monitoring a route. A route-level tracker follows the searched travel dates and filters rather than a single booking record.

If you have selected a specific itinerary and want to watch that choice rather than the general route, open the flight’s details and switch on tracking there. This is useful when departure time, airline, connection pattern or the exact combination of segments matters more than finding any flight on those dates.
Keep the distinction in mind: a route tracker can alert you to changes among the searched options, while a selected-flight tracker is narrower. If you would accept an alternative departure time or connection, route tracking gives you a wider view. If you would buy only the chosen itinerary, track that flight.

Track a trip when your dates are flexible
Choose Any dates when you can move your trip. This setting changes the question Google is answering: instead of watching one set of dates, it watches the route’s minimum price over a month.
- Search your origin and destination in Google Flights.
- Open the date selector and choose Any dates rather than entering one fixed departure and return date.
- Set passengers, cabin and stops so the route-level search matches what you would actually book.
- Sign in to your Google Account.
- Turn on Track prices for the flexible-date search.
Google says an Any dates tracker emails you when the route’s minimum price drops significantly over a month. If there is no significant drop, Google says it sends a regular email with the best available prices. The email is therefore a way to discover an affordable period, not a promise that a particular date will be cheap.

When flexible tracking is the better choice
- Your leave can shift by several days.
- You are comparing possible travel windows before requesting time off.
- You care more about the lowest route-level fare than a particular departure.
- You are willing to check the dates shown in the email before booking.
When it is not enough on its own
- Your event has a fixed date.
- You must arrive by a deadline.
- You need a particular flight, connection or departure time.
- You cannot accept the dates associated with the route’s monthly minimum.

How to receive and control the emails
A tracker is saved to your Google Account. To manage it, open Tracked Flights and choose the saved route or flight.
Turn notifications off without deleting the tracker
- Open Tracked Flights.
- Select the route or flight.
- Use the notification control to turn email notifications off.
This keeps the saved tracker available while stopping its emails. You can use the same notification control to turn them back on.
Stop tracking completely
- Open Tracked Flights.
- Choose the route or flight you no longer want to monitor.
- Select Remove.
Removing a tracker is different from muting notifications: it ends the saved tracking item rather than merely silencing its messages.

If you cannot find a tracker
- Check that you are signed in to the same Google Account used to create it.
- Open Tracked Flights rather than starting a new search and assuming the alert was saved.
- Review whether you turned notifications off; a muted tracker can remain saved without sending email.
- If you deleted it with Remove, create a new tracker from the relevant search.
How to interpret a Google Flights alert
A significant price-change email
Google’s official help describes email updates when the price for a tracked flight or route changes significantly. Read the route, dates, passenger count, cabin and stops in the message before treating the price as relevant to your trip. A change on a different search configuration is not a useful comparison.

Google may say a route is likely to become more expensive. The message includes an estimated increase and Google’s confidence in that estimate. This is a forecast, not a guarantee: the fare can remain available, rise by a different amount or disappear.
An expiring-fare warning
Google may also warn that the current fare is expiring and that its replacement is likely to cost more. Treat this as a reason to verify the fare promptly, not as proof that the current price will vanish at a specific time.
An Any dates monthly message
For flexible-date tracking, Google says it emails when the route’s minimum price drops significantly over a month. If no significant drop occurs, it sends a regular email with the best available prices. The lowest route price may correspond to dates you cannot use, so open the dates and verify your schedule.
What to do after an alert arrives
- Open the message and confirm the origin, destination, dates or date window, stops, cabin and passenger count.
- Follow through to the displayed itinerary and note the complete price, including any shown taxes or fees.
- Compare the final total on the airline’s website or your preferred booking platform. Google says the purchase can be completed through either channel.
- Check baggage allowances, seat fees, change and cancellation rules, ticket validity, payment currency and passenger-name requirements before submitting payment.
- If the itinerary still fits your needs, book through the provider’s checkout and save the confirmation.
Google’s announcement does not promise a guaranteed fare or booking availability. A price shown in an alert can change while you are comparing options, and a flight can sell out. The provider’s final checkout page controls what you can actually buy.

Do not confuse a low fare with a usable fare
A route-level minimum can be attractive but unsuitable if it uses dates, airports, stop patterns or a cabin you would not accept. Recheck those choices before booking. A slightly higher fare with workable dates and rules can be less expensive than changing an unusable ticket later.

Yes, you need to sign in to a Google Account to save tracking and receive alerts, according to Google Flights’ saved-tracking page. Signing in also lets you return to Tracked Flights to edit notification settings or remove saved items.
If you search while signed out, you can still inspect fares, but the saved-tracking workflow requires the account sign-in. Use the account whose inbox you check for travel decisions; an alert sent to an unattended account is easy to miss.
Google’s AI Mode flight-tracking feature
On August 27, 2026, Google announced that AI Mode can set up flight-price tracking after you confirm. Google says this AI Mode flight-tracking feature is available in more than 180 countries and territories and sends an email when prices change.

Common mistakes and practical fixes
Tracking the wrong date pattern
If a fixed-date alert is irrelevant, delete it and create a new search with the correct dates. For a flexible trip, use Any dates instead of repeatedly tracking one date pair that you may not be able to use.
Forgetting passenger or cabin settings
An alert created for one ticket or cabin may not represent the total you need. Set the number of tickets and cabin before switching on Track prices, then confirm those settings in each alert email.
Assuming every email is a fare drop
Google’s messages can report significant changes, likely increases and expiring fares. Read the subject and body rather than treating every notification as a discount.
Ignoring stop preferences
Include your preferred number of stops in the original search. A lower fare with an unacceptable connection pattern does not answer your travel need.
Buying before checking the provider’s page
The alert is not the contract. Compare the final total and restrictions at checkout, because Google does not guarantee that the alerted price or seat will remain available.
Leaving obsolete trackers active
Old trackers can create confusing messages. Open Tracked Flights periodically, turn off notifications for trips you are no longer considering, and choose Remove when you are finished.
A simple decision framework
- Dates fixed: search the exact dates and turn on Track prices.
- Itinerary fixed: select the flight and turn on tracking for that flight.
- Dates flexible: choose Any dates and monitor the route’s monthly minimum.
- Alert received: verify the itinerary and provider checkout details before deciding.
- Trip abandoned or booked: mute or remove the tracker in Tracked Flights.
This approach keeps the alert’s scope aligned with the decision you are trying to make: protect a required date, watch one acceptable itinerary, or search for a cheaper travel window.
