Set alerts in a market-data app, exchange, or charting platform instead of monitoring a chart continuously. CoinGecko is the simplest general-purpose option for custom and recurring thresholds; Coinbase is convenient for assets already on a watchlist; Binance adds trading-pair and P2P alerts; TradingView is the strongest choice when a trigger depends on an indicator, strategy, or drawing. Alerts tell you that a condition occurred—they do not, by themselves, guarantee instant delivery or execute a trade.
Choose the alert service that matches your use case
The right service depends on what you want to monitor and what should happen after the threshold is reached. A simple Bitcoin-above-a-dollar-price alert needs less setup than a moving-average crossover or a trend-line break.

These services monitor different data feeds and interfaces. A price shown for one trading pair can differ slightly from another because the exchange, quote currency, and liquidity are different. Select the exact asset and pair you intend to follow before saving an alert.
Decide what the alert should mean before creating it
Absolute price threshold
An absolute alert fires when an asset reaches a specified price, such as Bitcoin at $70,000. Use an above threshold for a breakout notification and a below threshold for a potential downside or risk review. The price must be interpreted in the quote currency and market selected by the service; a USD-denominated alert is not the same as one tied to a USDT or euro pair.

Percentage move
A percentage trigger follows a move relative to the reference used by the app. This is useful when you care about a 5% rise or fall rather than one fixed dollar level. Preset percentages are available in CoinGecko, while Binance documents percentage choices in its P2P alert workflow. Read the app’s wording carefully so you know whether the percentage is measured from the current price, a saved baseline, or a market-specific reference.
Technical or drawing condition
Technical conditions are useful when a price alone is not the decision point. TradingView lists alerts based on indicators, strategies, and drawing tools in addition to ordinary price conditions. For example, you can define an indicator crossing a value or a price crossing a trend line, then specify whether the alert should trigger once, on each occurrence, or at another available frequency.
One-time versus recurring
A one-time alert is appropriate for a single decision, such as reviewing an order when an asset reaches a planned entry level. A recurring alert is better for a standing watchlist, provided the service offers that option. Recurring behavior is not universal: CoinGecko describes one-time and recurring delivery where available, while Binance alerts have documented expiration, so a recurring-looking setup may still need periodic renewal.

An alert is a message, not an execution instruction. Coinbase states: "Price alerts are only notifications that an asset has reached a certain price. They do not place an order for that asset." Even when an alert is created inside an exchange, do not assume it will buy, sell, cancel, or modify an order unless a separate automation feature explicitly says so.
How to set a price alert on CoinGecko
CoinGecko is the most straightforward choice when you want a custom threshold without building a technical rule. Its 2024 guide reported tracking more than 14,000 coins and over 4,000 NFTs across 11 chains at the time of writing. That breadth can help when the asset is not listed in a smaller watchlist, but availability still depends on the current app and market data.
- Open CoinGecko and navigate to the page for the exact coin you want to monitor.
- Select the alarm or bell control on the coin page.
- Enter a custom target price, or choose one of the available preset percentage options.
- Choose one-time or recurring delivery when that choice is offered for your account and alert type.
- Save the alert, then allow mobile notifications when the operating system asks.
- Review the alert list to confirm the coin, quote currency, direction, and target were saved as intended.
CoinGecko says an account is required for its alert function. If you follow several assets, portfolio grouping and mobile alerts can keep notifications organized, but grouping does not change the trigger price. Create separate thresholds for separate decisions rather than relying on one broad portfolio notification.

When CoinGecko is the better choice
Use it for a broad market watchlist, a custom dollar level, or a recurring reminder that does not depend on chart indicators. It is less suitable when the condition must reference a specific strategy, drawing, or exchange order book; use a charting or exchange tool for those cases.

Coinbase’s documented workflow is built around the mobile watchlist. It is convenient if the assets you follow are already there and you want a simple above-or-below notification.
- Open the Coinbase mobile app and search for the asset.
- Select the asset, then tap the star icon to add it to your watchlist.
- Tap the bell-plus icon and choose Add Alert.
- Select whether the alert should fire when the price is above or below a level, then enter the target.
- Open notification settings and enable the delivery channels you want: push, in-app, email, or a combination that your account offers.
- Check the saved alert and test that the asset, direction, and target match your plan.
Coinbase’s wording is deliberately narrow: the alert reports that an asset reached a price and does not place an order. If you intend to trade after receiving the message, you must open the exchange and review the market yourself. Treat the notification as a prompt to verify current price, spread, liquidity, and your own order details—not as confirmation that a trade occurred.
How to set a price alert on Binance
Market trading-pair alert
- In the Binance app, open Markets.
- Search for the exact trading pair, such as the asset against the quote currency you use.
- Tap Alert.
- Choose the alert type, enter the price or frequency requested by the form, and create the alert.
- Review the alert list for the pair, threshold, and validity period.
Binance documents a maximum of 50 total price alerts and a maximum of 10 alerts per trading pair. Its general guidance also documents 90-day validity. These are operational limits, not investment limits: an alert expiring after 90 days does not mean the market condition stopped mattering. Keep a calendar reminder to review long-term alerts and recreate those that remain relevant.
P2P alert
The P2P workflow adds more conditions than a standard market-pair alert. Select the fiat-crypto pair, choose the payment method, and specify a percentage or target-price condition offered by the form. A P2P alert can therefore be more precise about the transaction context, but it is tied to the selected market and payment method. Recheck both whenever your preferred payment route changes.

Managing Binance limits
- Reserve alerts for levels that would change your decision; remove stale levels before adding new ones.
- Keep the pair consistent. An alert on one quote currency will not automatically track another pair for the same coin.
- Record the creation date so a 90-day expiry does not surprise you.
- After a major app update, verify the alert list because labels, locations, and supported options can change.
How to create advanced alerts in TradingView
TradingView is the strongest fit when you need a condition beyond "price is above X." It lists price, indicator, strategy, and drawing-tool alerts, allowing the trigger to follow the analysis on your chart.

- Open the symbol or watchlist for the market you want to monitor.
- Open the alert dialog for that symbol or watchlist item.
- Choose a price condition, indicator condition, strategy condition, or drawing-tool condition.
- Set the operator and value—for example, greater than, less than, crossing, or another option shown for the selected condition.
- Choose the trigger frequency so the rule does not notify more often than intended.
- Set an expiration date, or select an open-ended option where your account and alert type support it.
- Save the alert and inspect the alert manager for the symbol, rule, frequency, and expiry.
Use a price alert when the level is the decision
A plain price condition is easier to audit. If your plan is simply to reassess an asset at $2,000, use a level rather than adding an indicator that could create a different trigger. This reduces accidental complexity and makes the alert easier to recreate after expiry.
Use an indicator, strategy, or drawing alert when context matters
Choose an indicator condition when the signal depends on a calculated series, a strategy condition when the rule is tied to a strategy script, and a drawing-tool condition when a manually placed trend line or channel defines the level. Confirm the chart’s symbol and timeframe before saving: a condition on one timeframe or market is not interchangeable with another.
How to use CoinMarketCap alerts and watchlists
In the CoinMarketCap app, use the per-coin alert controls for an individual asset and watchlist movement notifications for broader changes. After creating the alert, verify notification permissions at two levels:
- In the device operating-system settings, allow notifications for the app.
- Inside the app’s settings, enable the relevant alert, inbox, and signed-in-device notification options.
If a notification does not appear, the missing permission may be at either level. The inbox and signed-in-device options are useful as a secondary place to check what the service recorded, but they are not a promise of immediate delivery.
Absolute levels, percentages, and technical rules: which should you choose?

Use the least complicated trigger that answers your question. More conditions create more places for a setting to be wrong. If you cannot explain in one sentence what the alert means, rewrite the rule before enabling it.
Build an alert plan that does not create notification overload
Set decision levels, not every interesting number
Start with the prices at which you would actually do something: investigate a sharp move, rebalance, review an order, or check a thesis. Alerts at arbitrary round numbers can produce noise without changing your decision. For a volatile asset, two or three levels—such as an upside review, a downside review, and a deeper risk level—may be more useful than a dense ladder.

Separate observation from execution
Write down the action that follows each alert, but keep the alert itself informational. A message that a threshold was reached is not evidence that the market will remain there, that your exchange account is funded, or that an order will fill. Open the relevant market, confirm the current quote and liquidity, and then decide whether to act.

Use different channels deliberately
Push notifications are convenient for mobile monitoring; email can provide a written record; in-app or inbox notifications let you review what the service logged. Enabling every channel can be useful for a high-priority level but excessive for routine watchlist movement. Choose channels based on how quickly you need to see the message and how much duplication you can tolerate.
Review expiry and stale alerts
Markets, plans, and app limits change. Binance’s documented 90-day validity makes expiry explicit, while other services may show a date or an open-ended option depending on the alert type. At least when you review your portfolio, delete levels tied to an abandoned thesis and confirm that important alerts still exist.

The cited platform documentation does not quantify delivery latency, uptime, or guaranteed notification timing. A notification may be delayed or suppressed by operating-system battery controls, disabled permissions, connectivity problems, an expired alert, or a changed app setting. Do not describe any service as delivering an instant or guaranteed alert based on these guides.
- Allow notifications for the app in the phone’s system settings.
- Allow the relevant push, email, in-app, inbox, or signed-in-device option inside the service.
- Disable battery-saving restrictions that prevent the app from refreshing, if your device uses them.
- Keep the app updated and revisit the alert list after an update.
- Use a second channel for a genuinely important level, while recognizing that duplicate channels still are not a guarantee.
- Check the alert’s expiry, symbol, pair, quote currency, and direction before relying on it.
Troubleshoot a missing or incorrect alert
No notification arrived
- Open the service and confirm the alert still exists and has not expired or been disabled.
- Check the exact symbol and trading pair; a different pair may not have reached the same price.
- Verify the above/below operator and target value.
- Check device-level notification permission, then the app’s own notification settings.
- Look in the app inbox or signed-in-device notification area when available.
- Confirm that connectivity, battery restrictions, and email filters are not blocking delivery.
Too many alerts arrived
Remove duplicate thresholds, switch a recurring rule to one-time where appropriate, or replace several nearby levels with one decision level. In TradingView, review the trigger frequency; in Binance, remove stale pair alerts before reaching the documented total or per-pair limits.

The alert fired but the price looks different
Compare the quote currency, exchange or market source, and timestamp shown by the service with the market you are viewing. Different venues can display different prices, and a fast market can move between the trigger and the time you open the notification. The alert confirms the service’s condition, not a guaranteed execution price.

The desired asset or condition is unavailable
Try a service with broader asset coverage for a basic price level, or use a charting platform for indicator and drawing conditions. Availability can vary by app version, account type, region, and market, so an option missing from one account is not proof that the asset or rule is universally unsupported.
Practical examples
Bitcoin above a planned review level
Choose CoinGecko or Coinbase, select Bitcoin and the intended quote currency, set an above alert at your review price, and enable one reliable notification channel. When it arrives, verify the live market before deciding whether to take any action. The alert itself does not submit an order.
A recurring percentage move across a broad watchlist
CoinGecko is suited to a custom or preset percentage threshold and recurring delivery where available. Create only the percentage alerts that would change your allocation decision, then confirm that the account and mobile permissions are active.
A P2P price condition tied to a payment method
Use Binance’s P2P alert workflow, select the fiat-crypto pair and payment method, then choose the available percentage or target-price condition. Review the 90-day validity and recreate the alert if the condition remains relevant after expiry.
A trend-line break
In TradingView, draw the trend line on the correct symbol and timeframe, open the drawing-based alert, select the crossing behavior and frequency, and set an expiry appropriate to the analysis. A drawing alert depends on the location and chart context, so moving or deleting the drawing can change the rule’s meaning.
A short maintenance checklist
- Every alert names the correct asset, pair, quote currency, direction, and value.
- The trigger type matches the decision: absolute, percentage, indicator, strategy, or drawing.
- The alert is one-time or recurring intentionally.
- At least one notification channel is enabled at both the device and app levels.
- Expiry dates and platform limits are recorded, especially Binance’s 90-day validity and documented alert caps.
- Stale alerts are deleted during portfolio reviews.
- You understand that the message is informational and does not guarantee delivery, price, or trade execution.
Once these checks are complete, price alerts can replace constant chart watching with a defined review process: set a meaningful condition, wait for the notification, verify the market, and make the decision yourself.
