To review a Binance API key, sign in to the official Binance account or app, open API Management, select the key used by your bot, and inspect every permission and IP restriction. Turn off access the bot does not need. A read-only monitor should not retain trading access, and a trading bot normally has no reason to have withdrawal permission.
If the key or secret may have been exposed, do not rely on editing permissions. Delete the key, review account activity, and contact Binance support if anything unusual appears. Create a replacement only after containment, using fresh credentials and the smallest workable permission set.

What a Binance API key controls
A Binance API integration normally uses an API key and a secret. The key identifies the credential; the secret signs authenticated requests. Binance’s developer documentation treats both as sensitive. Never paste either value into a chat, support ticket, public issue, screenshot, or form you do not fully trust.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe key’s permissions determine which classes of API request it may authenticate. The permission names below come from Binance’s Spot API documentation and should be read alongside the permissions shown for your own account and product.

| Permission | What it is for | Typical bot use | Least-privilege decision |
|---|---|---|---|
| TRADE | Submitting and managing trading orders where the key and account are eligible. | Order execution, amendments, and cancellations. | Enable only when the bot must place or manage orders. |
| USER_DATA | Authenticated account and user data requests. | Balances, order history, account status, or monitoring. | Use for a monitor that reads account information but does not trade. |
| USER_STREAM | User-data stream access for receiving account or order events. | Listening for fills, balance changes, or order updates. | Enable only if the integration needs a user-data stream. |
| Withdrawal access | Permission to request withdrawals, subject to Binance’s controls. | Rarely appropriate for a trading bot. | Leave disabled unless you have a separately justified, tightly controlled operational need. |
| IP access restriction | Limits authentication to specified public IP addresses. | Running a bot from a known server or office egress address. | Allowlist stable, trusted addresses whenever the key and account support it. |
Binance’s own documentation gives separate trading and monitoring keys as an example. Splitting those functions reduces the damage a monitoring tool could cause if its credential is later exposed.
Decide what the bot actually needs before changing anything
Do not begin by enabling every checkbox until the bot works. First describe the bot’s job in one sentence: for example, “read balances and fills,” “place Spot orders,” or “submit Futures orders.” Then map that job to the narrowest permissions available for the relevant account and product.
- Read-only monitoring: it generally needs account-data access and, if it listens for events, user-stream access. It should not need trading access.
- Spot or Margin order execution: it needs trading access for that product, plus whatever account-data or stream access the software requires to track orders.
- Futures automation: confirm that the account mode and key are eligible for Futures permissions. Do not assume a key that works for Spot can automatically trade Futures.
- Withdrawal automation: treat this as a separate, high-risk workflow. A normal trading strategy should not require it.
Check the bot provider’s documented endpoint requirements, but do not grant a broad permission merely because a setup guide says to select everything. If the requirement is unclear, verify the exact endpoint security category in Binance’s developer documentation before changing the key.

- The key’s label and the bot or service that uses it.
- The server’s stable public IPv4 address or addresses, if you intend to allowlist them.
- The product and account type involved: Spot, Margin, Futures, main account, or sub-account.
- A way to update the bot after a permission change or key replacement.
- A separate record of open orders and positions if you are investigating a possible compromise.
Use Binance’s official website or app, and sign in directly rather than following an unsolicited message. Keep the secret out of screen recordings and screenshots. If you cannot identify which service owns a key, treat that uncertainty as a reason to pause the service and investigate rather than granting additional access.
How to review and change permissions on the web
- Sign in directly. Open Binance through the official site and complete the account security checks requested for your account.
- Open API Management. Binance’s key-creation help page directs users through the profile or account area to API Management. Labels can change, so use the signed-in account’s current navigation.
- Identify the key. Match the key label to the bot or service. Do not copy the key or secret into a support conversation or third-party form.
- Inspect every permission. Record whether trading, account-data, user-stream, withdrawal, and other product-specific options are enabled. Review the IP restriction setting at the same time.
- Turn off excess access. A monitoring tool should not retain trading permission. A trading bot should normally have withdrawals disabled. Remove any product permission the bot does not use.
- Set the trusted IP list when supported. Add only the bot host’s stable public addresses. Do not allowlist an address you do not control or a frequently changing consumer connection unless you understand the resulting lockout risk.
- Save the change. Complete any confirmation, two-factor authentication, or security prompts shown by Binance.
- Run a limited verification. Confirm that the bot can perform its intended read or trading task and that a deliberately unneeded action is rejected. Check logs for permission errors without exposing credentials.
If the bot stops working after you remove a permission, do not immediately enable every option. Identify the failing endpoint, consult its official security requirement, and grant only the specific access that the documented function requires.
Reviewing keys in the mobile app
Binance’s security guidance describes searching the app for API Management. The exact menu placement may vary by app version, region, and account mode.
- Open the official Binance app and sign in.
- Use the account or security search to find API Management.
- Select the key by its label and inspect permissions and IP restrictions.
- Disable unnecessary permissions, save the change, and complete the requested security verification.
- If the key is suspected to be compromised, use the deletion control rather than merely editing permissions. Binance’s described scam-response flow includes a Delete all API action in the app.
Do not take screenshots that reveal a secret. If the app shows only a masked key, use the label and your bot inventory to identify it; never attempt to recover a secret by exposing it in another application.

Choose a permission set by bot function
| Bot function | Access to keep | Access to avoid | Operational note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Balance and performance dashboard | Required account-data access; user-stream access only if it consumes live events. | Trading and withdrawals. | A separate read-only key isolates the dashboard from order execution. |
| Spot order bot | Trading access for the supported Spot endpoints and any documented account-data or stream access needed by the software. | Withdrawals and unrelated product permissions. | Confirm the bot’s order, cancel, and status endpoints before saving. |
| Margin automation | Only the Margin permissions and data access the strategy uses. | Withdrawals and unused products. | Check whether the account and key expose the required Margin controls. |
| Futures bot | Futures access only if the account mode and key support it. | Unrelated Spot, Margin, or withdrawal access. | Portfolio Margin can change the availability of Futures permission on existing keys. |
| Multi-purpose service | The smallest combined set that the documented functions genuinely require. | Permissions added “just in case.” | Consider separate keys for monitoring and execution instead of one broad credential. |
IP allowlisting and key-type rules
IP allowlisting limits where a key can authenticate. If a bot runs on a server with a stable public address, adding that address is one of the strongest practical restrictions available in API Management. Keep an inventory of the address and update the allowlist deliberately when infrastructure changes.
Binance’s help page last updated 20 March 2025 says unrestricted-IP HMAC keys are limited to reading under the stated security rules. It identifies adding IPv4 restrictions or using self-generated key types such as Ed25519 or RSA as options for enabling other permissions. The controls presented for your specific key are authoritative, so read the live prompt before changing key type or access.
The same help page says withdrawal permission requires IP access restrictions. IP allowlisting is therefore a containment measure, not a reason to grant withdrawals.

How to disable trading while keeping a monitor running
- Open API Management and select the monitoring key.
- Verify that the key label belongs to the read-only service, not the order-execution bot.
- Switch off TRADE and leave only the account-data or user-stream permissions the monitor needs.
- Save and complete security verification.
- Watch the monitor for a normal balance or event update, then check that an attempted order operation is refused. Do not place a live test order merely to prove that trading is disabled.
If the monitor cannot function without trading access, inspect its documented API calls. It may be combining monitoring and execution in one process; splitting those functions into separate credentials is safer than retaining a broad key by default.
When to edit a key and when to delete it
| Situation | Best action | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| The bot is known, functioning, and has more access than necessary. | Remove excess permissions and add an IP restriction if supported. | You can reduce exposure without changing the bot’s credential. |
| The bot host changed from one trusted server to another. | Update the allowlist after confirming the new public address, or replace the key if the transition cannot be controlled. | An old allowlist entry may remain a valid authentication path. |
| The key or secret was pasted into a public or untrusted location. | Delete the key promptly and investigate account activity. | A credential in circulation may be usable even after permissions are edited. |
| You cannot identify the key’s owner or purpose. | Pause dependent software, investigate, and delete the key if ownership cannot be established. | Unknown credentials should not remain active indefinitely. |
| Unusual account activity is visible. | Revoke all API keys and contact Binance support. | This is Binance’s stated response for suspicious activity. |
What to do if a key may be compromised
- Contain the credential. Delete the suspected key immediately. If you cannot determine which key is exposed, revoke all API keys from API Management.
- Contact Binance support. Binance’s developer documentation states: “If you notice unusual activity in your account, immediately revoke all the keys and contact Binance support.”
- Review account activity. Check order history, trade history, transfers, withdrawals, login and security events, and any unfamiliar API activity.
- Check open orders and positions separately. The cited Binance material does not establish that revoking a key automatically cancels existing orders or closes positions. Inspect and manage them through the appropriate account interface.
- Secure connected systems. Remove the old credential from bot configuration, environment variables, logs, CI systems, backups, and team documentation. Rotate any server or repository secret that contained it.
- Create a replacement only if needed. Use a new key and secret, minimum permissions, and trusted IP restrictions where supported. Reconnect one service at a time and monitor its first operations.
Deleting a key is a containment decision, not proof that no unauthorized action occurred. Preserve relevant timestamps and transaction details for support without sending the secret itself.
Account-mode and product caveats
Portfolio Margin can permanently change old keys
Binance says enabling Portfolio Margin removes Futures permission from existing API keys and that the removal is permanent for those keys. If a Futures bot stopped working after a Portfolio Margin change, check whether the key predates that account-mode change. Do not assume repeatedly editing the old key will restore access; a new credential may be required if Binance’s current account flow permits one.

Symbol whitelisting is limited
Binance documents API trading-symbol whitelisting for Spot and Margin trading on normal and managed sub-accounts. The documented feature allows up to 30 pairs per sub-account API. It is not established as a universal control for a typical main-account key or for Futures, so do not present it as a general replacement for permission review.
Troubleshooting after a permission change
The bot receives an authentication or permission error
- Confirm that the key label is the one configured in the bot.
- Check whether the bot is calling a product endpoint that the key does not support.
- Verify that the server’s public IP still matches the allowlist.
- Check whether the account mode, key age, or Portfolio Margin status affects the permission.
- Read the endpoint’s current Binance security requirement before enabling anything else.
The bot works from one server but not another
This usually indicates an IP restriction or an infrastructure change. Compare the actual egress address with the allowlisted address, including any change caused by a cloud migration, proxy, load balancer, or failover server. Add only addresses you control and remove retired entries after the new path is confirmed.
You cannot enable trading on an unrestricted key
Review Binance’s current key rules. The 20 March 2025 help page says unrestricted-IP HMAC keys are read-only under its stated rules and points to IPv4 restrictions or self-generated Ed25519 or RSA keys as possible options. The available choices depend on the key and account shown in your interface.

Ongoing API-key maintenance
- Keep a current inventory of every key, its owner, purpose, product scope, creation date, and server.
- Use separate credentials for monitoring, trading, and any administrative workflow that genuinely needs a different risk level.
- Review permissions after bot updates, infrastructure migrations, account-mode changes, or personnel changes.
- Prefer stable trusted IP addresses and remove addresses that are no longer used.
- Store secrets in a dedicated secret manager rather than source code, chat, tickets, or plain-text notes.
- Alert on unfamiliar orders, transfers, withdrawals, login events, and API errors.
- Delete abandoned keys instead of leaving them disabled or forgotten.
- Recheck Binance’s live prompts and official documentation because interface labels and eligibility rules can change.
Final decision checklist
- Can you name the service using this key?
- Does it need reading, user-stream, trading, or withdrawal access?
- Is the key limited to the correct product and account?
- Can you restrict it to stable public IP addresses?
- Has the key or secret appeared anywhere an unauthorized person could access?
- Have you saved the change and verified the intended function without exposing credentials?
If the answer to the compromise question is yes or uncertain, delete first and investigate second. For a known, uncompromised bot, reduce permissions, restrict network access, and maintain a documented review schedule.
