To report a misleading Etsy listing, sign in, open the listing, select Report this item to Etsy, choose I don’t think it meets Etsy’s policies, select the closest reason, explain the specific concern, and submit. In the Etsy app, you can report from search results by pressing and holding the listing image, or from the end of the listing. If the issue is suspected copyright, trademark, patent, or other intellectual-property infringement, use Etsy’s Reporting Portal instead—and only if you own the rights or are authorized to act for the owner.
AI use alone does not make a listing reportable. Etsy permits some seller-prompted AI creations when the seller provides original creative input and discloses AI use; a useful report identifies a concrete policy concern, such as an image that misrepresents the item a buyer will receive.

Which Etsy reporting route should I use?
Choose the route based on whether you are flagging one listing, a whole shop, or a possible infringement of intellectual-property rights. Ordinary policy concerns can be reported by any signed-in member; an IP notice requires the rights owner or an authorized representative.

Use the narrowest route that fits the problem. A dispute about one item belongs with that listing; a pattern involving the shop as a whole may warrant a shop report. A rights claim is different from a general policy flag: the portal is for people with authority to act for the relevant rights holder.

How do I report a misleading Etsy listing on Etsy.com?
On Etsy.com, report the individual listing from its own page. Before submitting, capture the details that show what is misleading so your explanation can point to a specific discrepancy rather than a general suspicion.
- Sign in to your Etsy account and open the listing.
- Select Report this item to Etsy.
- Choose I don’t think it meets Etsy’s policies.
- Select the closest available reason for the concern.
- Write a brief, factual note describing what the listing says or depicts and how that conflicts with what appears to be offered.
- Submit the report.
For a concern about an entire shop, go to its homepage and select Report this shop to Etsy. Choose the concern, explain it in factual terms, and submit. A shop report should describe the shop-level issue rather than merely restating a complaint about one item.
How do I report an Etsy listing in the app?
The app provides two ways to report a listing: from search results or from the listing itself. The available entry point may depend on where you are viewing the item.
- From search results: press and hold the listing image, then choose the report option.
- From the listing page: scroll to the end of the listing and use Report this item.
Follow the prompts to select the closest concern, add a short explanation, and submit. If you cannot find the control in one view, try the other route rather than assuming the listing cannot be reported.

Can I report an Etsy seller just for using AI?
No. AI use by itself is not automatically against Etsy’s rules. Etsy permits seller-prompted AI creations when the seller contributes original prompts or other creative input and discloses the use of AI in the listing description.
The relevant question is whether the listing violates a policy—not whether AI appears to have been used. Etsy prohibits bot-generated content, AI-generated functional instructions such as patterns, recipes, and manuals, and AI prompt bundles. A report should identify the listing and the concrete concern that fits, rather than treating every AI-assisted product as prohibited.

For a suspected omission of an AI disclosure or another policy concern, use the ordinary item-report flow and select the closest available reason. Etsy is adding a reporting reason for listings that may use misleading AI imagery, but its stated initial purpose is to help Etsy understand potential misuse; such a report may not trigger immediate enforcement.
What makes an AI-generated listing image misleading?
Focus on whether the images accurately represent the item the buyer will receive. Etsy’s current image guidance says listing photos must accurately represent the actual item and that listings must include at least one unedited photo of it against a real background, subject to Etsy’s stated exceptions.

An AI-created scene or polished presentation is not, by itself, proof of a violation. The issue is a material gap between the listing’s depiction and the offered item—for example, an image appears to show details, materials, size, or features that the delivered product does not have. A report is stronger when it identifies the exact image and the specific difference, rather than simply labeling the image “fake.”
- Potentially relevant: the primary image depicts physical features or components that are absent from the item offered.
- Potentially relevant: the listing’s photos obscure flaws or create a materially different impression from the described item.
- Not enough on its own: an image looks highly polished, stylized, or AI-assisted without a clear indication that it misrepresents the item.
- Important qualification: Etsy’s image guidance includes stated exceptions, so do not assume every listing must use the same photo format in every circumstance.
Etsy also states, “Fraud of any kind is prohibited on Etsy.” That general rule does not establish that a particular seller committed fraud; describe observable facts and let Etsy review them.
How do I report copyright or other intellectual-property infringement?
Use Etsy’s Reporting Portal for suspected copyright, trademark, patent, or other intellectual-property infringement. Etsy requires the reporter to be the rights owner or an authorized representative; a general policy report is not a substitute for the formal rights process.
- Open the Etsy Reporting Portal and register the protected property as prompted.
- Add the URLs or listing IDs for the listings you believe infringe it.
- Review the information for accuracy and submit the notice.
- Check the portal for status and watch for Etsy’s email confirmation and outcome notification.
Identify the right you believe is involved and make sure you have authority to submit the notice. If you do not own the right and are not authorized to represent its owner, do not file an IP notice on that person’s behalf; use the ordinary policy-reporting route if you have a separate, good-faith policy concern.

What evidence should I save before reporting?
Record the listing as it appears when you review it. A clear evidence set helps you describe the concern accurately and preserves details that may change if the listing is edited.
- Copy the listing URL and record its listing ID and the shop name.
- Take screenshots of the title, description, every relevant photo, price, personalization claims, shipping promises, and any AI disclosure.
- Mark the exact mismatch: for example, a depicted feature is absent from the offered item, a flaw is concealed, or a handmade claim appears inconsistent with the listing evidence.
- For an IP concern, identify the protected work or right and confirm your authority before using the Reporting Portal.
- Keep the explanation short, neutral, and tied to an Etsy policy concern.
Do not embellish what the evidence shows. A screenshot can document what a listing says or displays, but a visual impression alone may not establish how an item was made, who created it, or what the seller intended.

State what you observed, where it appears, and why it may conflict with Etsy’s rules. Avoid claims about the seller’s identity or motives unless you have direct evidence; the report should help Etsy review the listing, not argue a case beyond what you can substantiate.
- Useful structure: “The second listing photo shows [specific feature], but the description says [relevant detail]. The listing may therefore misrepresent what the buyer will receive.”
- For a possible AI-image issue: name the image and describe the visible difference between the depicted item and the offered item.
- For a disclosure concern: state that you reviewed the description and could not find an AI-use disclosure, if that is the specific issue you observed.
- For a shop-level concern: describe the recurring or shop-wide behavior that led you to report the shop, rather than relying on a vague label.
These are formats for organizing observations, not conclusions about whether Etsy will find a violation. Select the closest reason Etsy offers and let the review team make that determination.

What happens after I submit an Etsy report?
Etsy says reports are confidential and are reviewed by specialist teams. Etsy may contact the seller or take other action, but the fact that a report was submitted does not itself establish a violation or guarantee a particular outcome.
Do not submit the same violation repeatedly or discuss a flagged item in Etsy community spaces. For an IP notice, use the Reporting Portal to view status; Etsy says it sends an email confirmation and an outcome notification.

Will Etsy automatically remove a listing after I report it?
A report starts a review; it does not guarantee that Etsy will remove the listing or take a particular action. Etsy says reports may lead to seller contact or other action, and reports about potentially misleading AI imagery may initially be used to understand possible misuse rather than prompt immediate enforcement.
Can I report a listing if I have not bought the item?
Yes. Etsy’s ordinary policy-reporting route is available to any signed-in member, so you do not need to be the buyer to flag a concern. An intellectual-property notice is different and requires the rights owner or an authorized representative.
What if I can’t find an AI-specific reason in Etsy’s report menu?
Use the ordinary item-report flow and select the closest reason available for the concrete policy concern. Explain the relevant image or disclosure issue in your note instead of choosing an unrelated reason.
