There is no single caller-ID database to delete your number from. Caller-ID apps, people-search directories, phone operating systems, and search engines keep separate records. Removing your number is therefore a provider-by-provider process: find every listing, submit the appropriate correction or deletion request, verify that it disappeared, and check again later because some records return.
The most reliable order is to inventory your exposure first, then handle Google Search, caller-ID apps such as Truecaller and Hiya, people-search sites, telemarketing lists, and your own phone settings separately.

What “removing your number” actually involves
A caller may see your name, location, business, or a spam label because several independent systems have associated that information with your number. A search engine may display a page copied from a directory. A caller-ID app may have its own user-submitted or commercial data. A people-search site may combine public records with other sources. Your mobile carrier can also pass caller-ID information to receiving networks.

No authoritative source establishes how many caller-ID or people-search databases normally contain one person’s number. Treat the task as an inventory and maintenance project rather than a one-time universal opt-out.
Step 1: Create a complete inventory of listings
Start before submitting any requests. An inventory prevents you from forgetting a site and gives you a record of what was displayed if a provider asks you to identify the listing.
Search every common number format
- Search the number in quotation marks with the country code, such as
“+1 212 555 0184”. - Search the 10-digit version, such as
“212-555-0184”. - Search the parenthesized format, such as
“(212) 555-0184”. - Search without punctuation and with spaces, if those formats are used in your region.
- Search the number together with terms such as
caller ID,spam, directory, or your name. - Repeat the searches in more than one search engine and, where available, inside major caller-ID apps.
Record the details that matter
- The exact profile, result, or listing URL.
- The name, address, age, employer, or other information displayed next to the number.
- Whether the page labels the number as spam, fraud, telemarketing, or a business.
- The date you found it and a screenshot or saved copy for your records.
- The provider’s stated removal method, identity checks, and expected processing time.
Use a private, local record for this inventory. Do not post screenshots publicly or send a full identity document to a site that has not established that it is the legitimate provider.

Step 2: Remove eligible phone-number results from Google Search
Google says phone numbers can qualify for its personal-information removal process, including the Results about you feature. This request affects the Google result, not the underlying source page or separate databases.
Submit a Search removal request
- Sign in to the Google account you use for personal Search-management tools.
- Open the personal-information removal or Results about you workflow from Google Search settings.
- Enter the phone number exactly as it appears in the result and provide the requested result URL.
- Complete any ownership or identity confirmation that Google requests.
- Save the confirmation and monitor the request status.
If the same number appears in several results, submit each qualifying result. A removal can hide a result for searches that expose your personal information while leaving the source page available to people who visit it directly or find it through another search engine.
Remove the source page as well
When a result points to a directory, forum, business page, or people-search profile, contact that site separately. Ask for correction or deletion under its own privacy or opt-out process. Google cannot erase information that the site owner continues to publish.

Step 3: Unlist your number from Truecaller
Truecaller handles account deactivation and public unlisting as separate parts of its process. Deactivate your Truecaller account first, then use the service’s official unlisting workflow.
- Open Truecaller’s current account or privacy controls and deactivate the account associated with the number.
- Open Truecaller’s official unlisting page and submit the number in the format requested.
- Complete any verification prompt and retain the confirmation.
- Check the listing again after the processing period.
Truecaller says removal can take up to 24 hours because of caching. Its support guidance also says numbers marked as spam cannot be unlisted. The unlisting action cannot be reversed and removes the caller-ID and spam-protection features associated with that account, so read the confirmation carefully before submitting it.
If the number is marked as spam
An unlisting request will not remove a spam-marked number under Truecaller’s stated rule. If the label is inaccurate, use the provider’s correction or dispute channel instead and explain why the classification is wrong. Keep evidence of legitimate ownership or business use if the service asks for it.
Step 4: Ask Hiya to correct or remove the record
Hiya provides a privacy-request process for incorrect caller-ID information or removal. Use the current request form or support route identified in Hiya’s privacy materials, and specify whether you want a correction, deletion, or both.
- Locate the Hiya listing or caller-ID result and copy the exact number and displayed name.
- Submit a privacy request identifying the incorrect information and the action you want.
- Complete the identity or ownership checks required by the form.
- Save the request number and any email confirmation.
- Recheck the result after the stated processing period.
Hiya says advanced personal-data requests can take up to 30 days. That is a processing window, not a promise that every external copy will disappear on the same date. If the record remains after the window, reply to the existing request with the original case details rather than creating conflicting duplicate submissions.
Step 5: Opt out of people-search and directory sites
The Federal Trade Commission advises consumers to find each people-search listing and follow that site’s opt-out procedure. Sites differ: some provide a self-service form, some require an email link, and some require identity verification. A request normally suppresses the site’s profile; it does not erase the government or other public records from which the profile was assembled.

Use the site’s own listing
- Open the exact profile from your inventory, not a generic homepage.
- Look for labels such as opt out, remove my information, privacy request, or do not sell or share.
- Submit the number and any other fields needed to match the profile.
- Use an email address you control if the site sends a confirmation link.
- Record the submission date, confirmation message, and expected completion time.
- After removal, test the old profile URL and search the number again to confirm whether the page is gone, blocked, or merely de-indexed.
Understand what an opt-out does not do
The FTC states that opting out of people-search sites does not delete your information from public records. A county property record, court record, professional license, or business filing may remain available from the original government or institutional source. Another directory can also republish the same information.
Information can reappear when public records change or when a site refreshes its data. Plan to repeat the search rather than assuming that one successful opt-out is permanent.
When a paid removal service may help
Paid services can submit requests across many sites and may perform recurring scans. They are a convenience option, not a guarantee that every database will be covered or that public records will be erased. Compare them on the criteria below before paying.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →| Comparison point | Questions to ask |
|---|---|
| Sites covered | Does the service name the exact people-search and directory sites included, and are the sites relevant to your country? |
| Recurring scans | Does it check again automatically, or is the first submission the only service? |
| Proof of completion | Will you receive listing URLs, timestamps, screenshots, or a report showing what was removed? |
| Identity verification | What documents or personal data must you provide, and how is that information protected? |
| Processing time | Are the stated times estimates, and does the service explain delays or rejected requests? |
| Public-record limits | Does the service clearly identify information it cannot remove because it comes from public records? |
| Renewal terms | Is monitoring recurring, how often are you billed, and how do you cancel? |
If you handle opt-outs yourself, the main cost is time. A paid service can save time when many listings exist, but you should still retain your own inventory and verify a sample of claimed removals.
Step 6: Use the Do Not Call Registry for sales calls—not database deletion
The National Do Not Call Registry addresses telemarketing lists. It does not remove your phone number from caller-ID apps, people-search sites, search engines, or public records.
The FTC says a registration appears the next day. Legitimate sales calls may take up to 31 days to stop while companies update their lists. The registry does not block every unwanted call: scammers may ignore it, and the rule does not eliminate all categories of calls that the law permits.

- Register the number through the FTC’s official National Do Not Call Registry process.
- Keep the registration confirmation for your records.
- Allow the stated update period before judging whether compliant sales callers have stopped.
- Report continuing violations through the FTC’s complaint process, while recognizing that a report will not erase caller-ID data.
The FTC describes the registry as stopping unwanted sales calls from real companies that follow the law. It is a call-preference tool, not a privacy-database deletion tool.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsStep 7: Turn off caller-ID and spam identification on your own phone
On phones using Google Phone, the setting labeled See caller & spam ID controls Google Phone’s caller-identification and spam-notification features for the user who opts out. Google says, “You can opt-out of Spam or Caller ID notifications at any time.”
- Open the Google Phone app.
- Open the app’s settings.
- Find the caller-ID and spam section.
- Turn off See caller & spam ID, then confirm the change if prompted.
This changes the behavior of that phone and account. It does not remove the number from Truecaller, Hiya, a people-search site, Google Search’s source page, a carrier database, or another person’s phone.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to verify that a removal worked
Check the same evidence you recorded
Use the original profile URL, the same number formats, and the same service where you found the listing. A profile may show a blank page, a “not found” message, or a notice that the information is unavailable. Those outcomes are stronger evidence than simply failing to find the page once.
Distinguish suppression from deletion
- Search-result suppression: Google hides an eligible result, while the source page remains online.
- Profile unlisting: A directory stops displaying a public profile, but the underlying public record may remain.
- Correction: The provider changes a name, address, or spam label without removing the number.
- Device opt-out: Your phone stops using a particular caller-ID feature, while other users and services continue to see their own data.
Set a repeat-check schedule
Search again after each provider’s stated window, then schedule periodic checks. The FTC warns that people-search listings may return when public records change. A quarterly check is a practical starting point; check more often if the number is tied to a business, recently moved, or repeatedly republished.
Troubleshooting common failures
The Google result is gone, but the page still exists
That is expected for a Search removal. Contact the site hosting the page and submit its deletion or correction request. If the page is illegal, threatening, or exposes highly sensitive information, use the site’s urgent abuse or privacy channel as well as Google’s process.

Truecaller still shows the number after 24 hours
Confirm that the account was deactivated and that you used the official unlisting workflow. Clear the app’s cached result or test from another device. If the number is marked as spam, use the correction or dispute process because Truecaller’s guidance says spam-marked numbers cannot be unlisted.
Hiya has not completed the request
Allow the full stated period of up to 30 days for an advanced request. Then reply to the existing confirmation with the case number, the exact listing, and what remains incorrect. Avoid sending multiple identity documents unless the provider specifically requests them.
A people-search profile returned
Resubmit the opt-out and check whether a changed address, name spelling, or newly published public record created a new profile. If you use a paid monitoring service, ask for the exact URL and date of each claimed removal so you can distinguish a genuine recurrence from an old cached result.

Telemarketing calls continue after registration
Wait up to 31 days for compliant sales lists to update. Calls from scammers may continue because they do not follow the registry. Block numbers on your device, report illegal calls, and do not give callers additional personal information in an attempt to “verify” your listing.
Manual removal or a paid service: which approach fits?
| Situation | Usually practical approach | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Only one or two visible listings | Manual requests | You can follow the exact provider process and verify each result without paying for broad coverage. |
| Many profiles across numerous sites | Compare a paid service with a manual plan | Recurring scans and batch submissions may save time, but coverage and public-record exclusions must be checked. |
| High-risk exposure or harassment | Manual control plus professional advice where needed | You need direct evidence of each removal and may need urgent handling that an automated service does not provide. |
| Information comes from public records | Manage expectations and target the displaying sites | Opt-outs generally suppress directory profiles; they do not erase the original public record. |
Regardless of the method, keep your own list of URLs, dates, confirmations, and rechecks. A service’s dashboard is not a substitute for independently confirming the most sensitive listings.
Quick Recap
Privacy and safety precautions during opt-out requests
- Start from the listing you found and navigate to the provider’s official privacy or support domain; avoid sponsored “removal” pages that imitate a provider.
- Provide only the minimum information needed to match the listing.
- Use a separate email address for opt-out confirmations if you do not want your primary inbox associated with additional data brokers.
- Read whether a request is reversible. Truecaller’s unlisting action, for example, is described as irreversible.
- Never pay a caller who claims that a fee is required to remove a spam label or stop an immediate threat.
- Save confirmation emails and screenshots in an encrypted or otherwise private location.
A repeatable removal checklist
- Search the number in every common format and record each listing URL.
- Submit Google’s personal-information removal request for eligible Search results.
- Contact the source pages and directories directly for deletion or correction.
- Deactivate and unlist Truecaller, allowing up to 24 hours and noting the spam-label restriction.
- Send Hiya’s privacy request and allow up to 30 days for an advanced request.
- Opt out of each people-search profile and record the confirmation.
- Register with the Do Not Call Registry if the goal is fewer legitimate sales calls; allow the next-day appearance and up to 31 days for list updates.
- Turn off See caller & spam ID in Google Phone if you do not want that feature on your own device.
- Recheck every original URL and search format, then repeat the process when listings return.
