How to Get the Most Chase Ultimate Rewards on Flights to Europe

The best use of Chase Ultimate Rewards for a Europe flight is the option that wins on the complete trip cost and itinerary—not a particular airline partner. Find a bookable award first, record its points and cash charges, then compare it with the same trip paid in cash and with a Chase Travel booking. Transfer only after you have selected the award you can ticket, because Chase says partner transfers are final and may take up to seven business days.

What is the best way to use Chase points for flights to Europe?

There is no universal “best” Chase transfer partner for Europe. The right choice changes with your origin, destination, dates, cabin, number of travelers, award inventory, taxes and fees, and the cash fare available at the same moment. A program that looks attractive on a partner list may have no seats for your dates, may price the itinerary differently, or may require more cash than another route.

Use this order of operations:

  1. Confirm eligibility. Chase identifies Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve and Ink Business Preferred as cards eligible for transfers to travel partners.
  2. Search before moving points. Use the airline loyalty program’s own booking engine to find the exact flights and verify the mileage price and available seats.
  3. Build a full-cost comparison. Put the partner award’s points, taxes, fees, cabin and schedule next to a cash ticket and a Chase Travel quote.
  4. Choose a specific, bookable itinerary. Do not transfer because a general example or a partner list looks promising.
  5. Transfer only the amount required. Chase says transfers are generally made in 1,000-point increments, are final, and can take up to seven business days.
  6. Return to the airline program and ticket the award. Check every passenger, flight segment and cash charge before the final confirmation.

This process protects you from the two most expensive errors: transferring points without award space and judging a redemption by points alone.

Which Chase airline partners can be used for Europe?

Chase’s current transfer roster includes 10 airline programs. The roster tells you where transfers are possible; it does not tell you which program will have the best Europe itinerary on your dates.

Chase airline partner What to verify in the live search
Aer Lingus AerClub Exact Europe award seats, mileage quote, taxes and fees, and whether the proposed connection works for every traveler.
Air Canada Aeroplan Available seats, the program’s displayed mileage requirement, cash charges and the complete routing.
British Airways Club Availability for every segment, total points, taxes and carrier charges, and the schedule compared with alternatives.
Flying Blue (Air France-KLM) The live quote for your dates, cabin and passenger count, including all cash charges.
Iberia Club Whether the desired itinerary is bookable, the displayed points and fees, and airport and connection convenience.
JetBlue TrueBlue Whether the program offers a suitable Europe itinerary for your origin and dates and what the live quote requires.
Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Bookable seats, mileage cost, taxes and fees, and whether the routing is practical for the trip.
Southwest Rapid Rewards Whether the itinerary serves the required route and dates and how its live points-and-cash quote compares with other choices.
United MileagePlus Exact award inventory, points requested, cash charges and stop pattern for the proposed flights.
Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Availability, the points and cash shown for the precise itinerary, and the operating flights and connections.

Programs use different award rules and route coverage. A transfer partner can be useful for one origin, destination and date but unsuitable for another. Treat the table as a search checklist, not a ranking.

How to compare a transfer, cash ticket and Chase Travel

Make one comparison for the actual trip you would book. A partner award should not be evaluated against a cheaper cash itinerary with a worse cabin, an inconvenient airport or a different travel date. Likewise, a Chase Travel quote may represent a different flight or ticket condition unless you match the details.

Comparison field Partner award Cash ticket Chase Travel
Availability Can the program ticket the desired seats for the exact dates and all passengers? Is the same or a genuinely equivalent flight for sale? Does the portal show the desired flight and passenger count?
Points How many airline miles are requested, and how many Chase points must be transferred at the displayed rate? How many Chase points would be needed if you used a portal redemption, if that option is shown? What is the portal’s current points requirement for this booking?
Cash due Taxes, fees and any carrier charges shown before ticketing. The ticket price, plus any relevant fare restrictions or separately charged items shown at purchase. The portal’s displayed cash amount and any booking conditions.
Trip quality Cabin, stops, departure and arrival times, airports and operating carriers. The same factors for the cash itinerary. The same factors for the portal itinerary.
Flexibility and risk Transfer timing, award availability and the airline program’s ticket rules; Chase says a completed transfer cannot be undone. Cash-ticket change, cancellation and fare conditions displayed at booking. Portal booking terms displayed for that itinerary.

Chase explains that point value varies by redemption. It also offers Points Boost on selected Chase Travel bookings. Those features can make a portal booking competitive for one itinerary, but neither guarantees that Chase Travel beats a transfer. Use the quote on the screen for your dates rather than assuming a fixed value.

Availability: can every traveler get a seat?

Search for the full passenger count, not just one seat. An award that appears for one traveler may not be available for a family or group. If the program displays different prices for different seats or dates, record the total required for the party you intend to book.

Points required: compare Chase points, not just airline miles

Write down the airline program’s mileage requirement and the number of Chase points needed to produce it under the transfer rate displayed at that moment. Transfers are generally made in 1,000-point increments, so account for the permitted increment when calculating how many Chase points to move. Do not transfer a rounded amount until you have confirmed the award can be ticketed.

Cash due: fees can change the result

An award is not free travel. Capture the taxes, fees and carrier charges shown immediately before ticketing. A cash fare with a higher price but no large award surcharge may be a better fit than an award with a low mileage quote and substantial cash due. The comparison must include both components.

Trip quality: a lower quote can be a worse trip

Record cabin, number and length of stops, departure and arrival times, airports and ticket conditions. A nonstop economy ticket and a multi-stop itinerary are not equivalent simply because they cover the same city pair. Compare like with like, or clearly label the trade-off you are accepting.

Step-by-step: transfer Chase points for a Europe award

  1. Check the card and account. Confirm that your Chase account is a Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve or Ink Business Preferred account eligible for partner transfers. Identify the airline program you intend to use and create or verify its loyalty account.
  2. Match account details. Chase guidance says the account may need to be established before transfer and that the details must match. Review the name and other identifying information on both accounts before starting.
  3. Search the partner’s site. Enter the exact origin, destination, travel dates, cabin and passenger count. Confirm that the displayed flights are award seats rather than merely cash inventory.
  4. Record the live quote. Note the airline miles requested, taxes, fees, carrier charges, flight numbers, operating carriers, airports, connections and ticket conditions. Save enough detail to find the same award again.
  5. Check another plausible program. Search other partners that could serve the route. You are looking for a bookable alternative, not a theoretical chart price.
  6. Price the cash alternative. Search for the same or a reasonably equivalent itinerary and record the cash fare and conditions.
  7. Price Chase Travel. Search the portal for the matching itinerary and note the points and cash shown. If Points Boost is displayed for that booking, include the resulting quote in the comparison.
  8. Decide before transferring. Select the option that best fits the complete cost, trip quality and timing. Make sure the award is still available immediately before moving points.
  9. Initiate the transfer in the Chase account. Transfer only the amount needed under the increment allowed by Chase. Do not send speculative points for a route you have not found and verified.
  10. Allow processing time. Chase says most transfers process by the next business day but may take up to seven business days. The award can disappear while a transfer is pending, so do not start a transfer when your travel timing cannot tolerate that risk.
  11. Ticket through the airline program. When the miles arrive, return to the partner’s booking engine, recreate the itinerary and confirm the final points and cash amounts for every passenger.
  12. Review the confirmation. Check names, dates, airports, cabin, connections and ticket conditions before completing payment. Keep the airline confirmation and the Chase transfer record.

When Chase Travel may be the better choice

A transfer is not automatically superior to booking through Chase Travel. The portal can be preferable when it shows the flight you want at a competitive points requirement, when the partner has no award seats, or when you value the portal’s booking path over the restrictions of an award ticket. The relevant question is the quote for your exact itinerary.

Check whether the portal displays Points Boost for the flight. Chase describes Points Boost as applying to selected Chase Travel bookings, so its availability and effect are booking-specific. Compare the resulting points and cash with the partner’s live award quote, not with a generic valuation.

Also compare the ticket conditions. If the portal offers a more suitable fare or the partner award requires an inconvenient connection, the portal’s higher or lower points total may not be the decisive factor. Record the cabin, schedule, airports and cancellation or change terms shown before purchase.

When paying cash can beat using points

Sometimes the cash fare is low enough that preserving Ultimate Rewards is the more useful decision. No universal cents-per-point threshold or guaranteed savings level is established, so do not use an invented benchmark. Instead, compare the exact cash price with the points and cash required for the award and with the Chase Travel quote.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A cash purchase may also be the practical choice when:

  • No partner has award seats for all passengers.
  • The available award requires an undesirable cabin, airport or connection.
  • The award’s taxes and carrier charges narrow the difference from the cash fare.
  • You cannot allow a transfer that may take up to seven business days.
  • The airline program’s available ticket conditions do not suit your trip.

Use the same dates, passengers and comparable flight quality in all three calculations. A cheaper but materially different itinerary is a separate option, not proof that one redemption method is better.

Transfer timing and irreversible-transfer risk

Chase’s warning is explicit: “Keep in mind that point transfers to travel partners are final.” Once the transfer is completed, Chase says it cannot be undone. Airline miles generally remain in the partner program rather than returning to your Ultimate Rewards account.

Timing creates a second risk. Chase says most transfers process by the next business day but may take up to seven business days. That is a maximum window in current Chase guidance, not a promise that every transfer takes seven days. Because award inventory can change, transfer only after confirming a specific award and checking that your trip can tolerate the processing window.

A pre-transfer safety check

  • Is the partner account in the correct name and already established?
  • Did you search the exact dates, route, cabin and number of travelers?
  • Does the airline site show seats that can actually be booked with miles?
  • Did you record the current mileage requirement and every cash charge?
  • Did you compare the same trip with cash and Chase Travel?
  • Is the transfer amount correct and rounded to the permitted increment?
  • Could the award disappear before the transfer completes?
  • Would you still be comfortable holding the partner miles if the itinerary changes?

Common mistakes and how to fix them

Transferring because a blog example looks cheap

A historical or generic mileage example does not establish today’s price. Award pricing and inventory vary by itinerary and date. Fix the mistake by searching the airline’s current booking engine for your own origin, destination, cabin, date and passenger count before transferring.

Choosing a partner from the roster alone

The 10-program roster confirms transfer eligibility, not route coverage or value. Fix this by searching every plausible program that can serve your route and recording live quotes.

Comparing points without cash charges

Taxes, fees and carrier charges can materially change the result. Fix this by capturing the final cash amount displayed before ticketing and placing it beside the cash fare and portal quote.

Checking one seat when you need several

Inventory may not be available for the full party. Fix this by searching the intended passenger count and confirming that all travelers can be ticketed before moving points.

Ignoring the transfer window

A transfer that normally arrives quickly can still take up to seven business days under Chase’s stated maximum. Fix this by leaving time for processing and avoiding speculative transfers when the award could vanish.

Moving more points than the confirmed award needs

Because transfers are final, excess points can become stranded in the partner program. Fix this by transferring only the amount required for the selected, bookable itinerary, using Chase’s permitted increment.

Assuming Chase Travel always wins because it is simpler

Portal convenience does not prove better value, and Chase says redemption value varies. Fix this by recording the portal’s current points-and-cash quote and comparing the actual cabin, schedule and ticket conditions with the partner award.

What the current Chase figures do—and do not—mean

Chase’s current transfer guidance provides three operational figures relevant to planning:

  • 1,000-point increments: transfers are generally made in these increments.
  • Up to seven business days: this is the maximum processing window Chase states; it is not a prediction that every transfer will take that long.
  • 10 airline partners: the current roster listed above.

These are process details, not evidence that a particular Europe redemption is a bargain. No universal Europe award price, guaranteed savings amount or permanently best partner is established. The only reliable mileage, cash and inventory figures for your trip are the live values shown by the selected program or booking channel at the time you search.

Questions to answer before you click Transfer

Chase’s advice can be reduced to a simple test: can you identify a specific award that is available now, know its full cost, and accept the risk that the transfer is final and may take up to seven business days? If any answer is no, keep searching or use the cash or Chase Travel option that meets your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I transfer Chase points to an airline before I find award space?

No. Find and verify a specific, bookable award first. Chase advises confirming availability and the miles required, and completed transfers are final.

How long can a Chase transfer to an airline take?

Chase says most transfers process by the next business day but may take up to seven business days. Plan for the full stated window because award availability can change while points are pending.

Can I reverse a Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer?

No. Chase states that transfers to travel partners are final, so move only the amount required for the award you have selected.

Which Chase partner has the cheapest flights to Europe?

There is no universal cheapest partner. Prices and award seats depend on the route, dates, cabin and passenger count. Search the live quote in each plausible program and compare points, cash charges and itinerary quality.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is Chase Travel better than transferring points for Europe?

Neither method is always better. Compare the portal’s exact points-and-cash quote, including any displayed Points Boost, with a partner award and a comparable cash fare for the same trip.

What information should I verify before booking an award?

Verify the passenger count, origin and destination airports, dates, cabin, flight numbers, operating carriers, connections, points required, taxes and fees, and the ticket conditions shown immediately before ticketing.
