Yes—Aeroplan members can use Air Canada Wi‑Fi at no charge when their Aeroplan number is attached to the reservation, the aircraft is equipped, and the service is available on that flight. You still need a Wi‑Fi-capable device, must join the onboard network and accept Air Canada’s terms, including consent related to advertising and inflight browsing data. Coverage is not universal, so verify the specific flight before departure.
What “free” Air Canada Wi‑Fi actually means
Air Canada’s complimentary access is an eligibility benefit, not a guarantee that every flight has a working connection. The airline’s current in-flight entertainment and connectivity page says Aeroplan members qualify on equipped flights when their membership number is on the booking or added before check-in. A Wi‑Fi-enabled phone, tablet or computer is also required.

Air Canada’s terms identify several other qualifying situations. The benefit can apply to Business Class passengers, companions booked on the same reservation as an eligible Aeroplan member, and United MileagePlus members whose number has been added to an Air Canada booking. These categories still depend on an equipped aircraft and accessible service.

| Passenger situation | What must be true |
|---|---|
| Aeroplan member | The Aeroplan number is attached during booking or before check-in; the flight has Wi‑Fi and the service is accessible. |
| Companion of an eligible Aeroplan member | The companion is on the same reservation as the qualifying member; aircraft and service availability still apply. |
| Business Class passenger | Business Class eligibility is listed in Air Canada’s terms; the flight must still be equipped and online. |
| United MileagePlus member | The MileagePlus number is added to the Air Canada reservation, subject to the same equipment and availability limits. |
There is no stated requirement to buy a particular phone, laptop, travel router or other accessory. The airline specifies only a Wi‑Fi-capable device.

“Free” also does not mean anonymous or unrestricted. The portal requires acceptance of Air Canada’s terms, including its stated consent for advertising-related use of personal information and inflight browsing data. If you do not accept the required terms, complimentary access may not be completed even when your booking is eligible.
Which Air Canada flights have complimentary Wi‑Fi?
North America and Sun destinations
The current service information describes complimentary Wi‑Fi on equipped flights within North America and to and from Sun destinations. Air Canada uses “Sun destinations” for locations in Mexico and the Caribbean in its service announcements. Because aircraft assignments and systems can change, the route alone does not establish that your flight will connect.
Air Canada’s May 1, 2025 launch announcement covered Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge and Air Canada Express CRJ900 flights in North America, Mexico and the Caribbean. That announcement is a dated launch description, not a current fleet-wide guarantee. It reported that 88 per cent of the fleet had been outfitted with Wi‑Fi systems in 2025; do not treat that historical figure as the percentage equipped today.

In that May 2025 announcement, Air Canada executive vice-president and chief operations officer Mark Nasr said, “Starting today we’re thrilled to offer complimentary Wi‑Fi on North American, Mexican and Caribbean flights for Aeroplan Members, by partnering with Bell.” The statement explains the launch scope and date; it is not a promise that every later aircraft assignment will have service.
The airline has not published an independently measured speed comparison in the material describing this benefit. Marketing references to streaming-quality service should not be read as a guaranteed speed, latency level or uninterrupted ability to stream. A connection suitable for a short message may still struggle with a large upload or a video call.
International long-haul flights
Air Canada’s current pages describe expansion of full Wi‑Fi to long-haul international flights by the end of 2026. That is a rollout target, not proof that every international route is already online. Confirm the individual flight close to departure.
Free texting for Aeroplan members has been available on equipped international flights under its own terms. Texting availability does not mean that full web access is available on the same flight. If you need email, cloud files or a work application, look for confirmation of full browsing rather than assuming texting includes those features.

How to check whether your particular flight is connected
Air Canada’s availability tool is the most direct check, but it has a short look-ahead window: the airline says it shows only flights departing within the next five days. A flight that is too far in the future may therefore return no result even if the aircraft is eventually scheduled to have Wi‑Fi.
- Open Air Canada’s connectivity information and use the flight-availability lookup.
- Search again within five days of departure if your first check was earlier.
- Match the result to your exact flight number and date, rather than relying only on the route or aircraft type.
- Check once more near departure because aircraft substitutions, maintenance and network status can change the result.
The lookup is useful but not an uptime promise. Air Canada lists network adjustments, congestion, outages, technical limitations and signal strength as factors that can affect connection availability or quality. A listing can therefore change between the time you search and boarding, and a working session can still drop after takeoff.
Prepare your booking before check-in
Add your Aeroplan number at the right time
Enter your Aeroplan number while purchasing the ticket or add it before completing check-in. The launch announcement and current terms both tie eligibility to the number being on the reservation. If you have multiple frequent-flyer numbers saved in a profile, verify that the Aeroplan number—not a different program number—is attached to this booking.
Check the reservation after adding the number
Look at the booking’s passenger or loyalty-details section and confirm that the number appears for the traveler who will use the connection. Adding it after check-in may not update the boarding-pass record in time, so make the change before check-in whenever possible. If several travelers are on one reservation, confirm which passenger is the qualifying member and that companions remain on the same reservation.

Air Canada does not specify a required operating system or model. A phone, tablet or laptop with functioning Wi‑Fi is sufficient. A charger or power bank may be convenient on a long flight, but neither is an eligibility requirement stated by the airline. Download essential documents before boarding because a device that cannot connect cannot retrieve them later.
Know what the benefit does not cover
The eligibility language does not promise a separate allowance for every device, simultaneous connections, a particular speed or an uninterrupted session. It also does not turn an international texting benefit into full browsing access. Plan around the exact service shown for your flight rather than around the broad phrase “free Wi‑Fi.”
How to connect onboard, step by step
- Wait until onboard connectivity is permitted. Follow the crew’s instructions about when electronic-device Wi‑Fi may be enabled.
- Turn on Wi‑Fi in your device’s network settings.
- Select the network named “ACWiFi.com.” Check the spelling before joining a network.
- Open a browser. If the portal does not appear automatically, type
acwifi.comin the address bar. - Follow the portal prompts. The system checks the booking or loyalty eligibility and presents Air Canada’s terms.
- Review and accept the terms. Complimentary access requires the consent described in the privacy section below.
- Start browsing only after the portal confirms access. If a page fails, return to the portal rather than repeatedly opening unrelated sites.
The network name and portal address are supplied by Air Canada. A look-alike network or unexpected payment page is not a substitute for the official portal; disconnect and ask the cabin crew if the displayed network differs. Do not enter payment details merely because a page appears after joining an unfamiliar network.

If the sign-in page keeps reappearing, close extra browser tabs and return to the portal address. A captive portal may not complete authentication while another tab is trying to load a secure website. Once the portal confirms access, test a simple page before starting a large download.
Can you move the session to another device?
Air Canada’s May 2025 launch notice says a connected session can be transferred. On the second device, repeat the normal connection process: enable Wi‑Fi, join “ACWiFi.com,” open a browser and follow the prompts. The notice says the new connection transfers the session and disconnects the other device. It does not describe simultaneous use on several devices under one complimentary session.
This is useful when you begin on a phone and later need a laptop, but it is not a way to create multiple independent sessions. Finish or save work on the first device before switching. If the transfer does not complete, disconnect the first device and repeat the portal steps on the second one.
Privacy conditions behind the no-charge connection
Free access is conditional on consent. Air Canada says users must agree to personal information being used to target them with third-party product and service advertising. The terms also describe collecting and using inflight browsing data to derive group insights and measure advertising effectiveness.
What happens for users under 18
Air Canada’s privacy notice says it does not collect and use information for those stated advertising purposes for users under 18, even when they are otherwise eligible and check the consent box. This age-specific statement does not remove the practical need to follow the portal’s eligibility and acceptance steps.
Recommended Free Tools
Canadian privacy law onboard
The notice says Canadian privacy law applies while you are aboard an Air Canada aircraft. Read the portal disclosure before accepting if the data-use condition matters to you, particularly when traveling for work or with a managed device. An employer’s device policy may impose additional restrictions even when Air Canada permits the connection.
Withdrawing consent
The current notice says an online consent-withdrawal mechanism is planned for January 2027. Until that mechanism is available, it directs users who want to withdraw consent to contact Air Canada’s Principal Privacy Officer. Because that date is a plan rather than a completed feature, check the current notice when you travel.

Privacy and practical security
Acceptance of the advertising terms is separate from the reliability of the connection. Avoid treating an inflight network as a substitute for your employer’s secure access tools. Save sensitive files locally only when permitted, use the security controls required by your organization and log out of accounts before handing a device to someone else. These are prudent handling steps, not additional Air Canada eligibility rules.
What to do when Wi‑Fi does not work
The portal never opens
- Confirm that Wi‑Fi is enabled and that you joined “ACWiFi.com,” not a remembered network with a similar name.
- Open a browser manually and enter
acwifi.com. - Temporarily close another captive-portal window or a page that is repeatedly retrying.
- Ask the crew whether connectivity has been activated yet; service may be unavailable during part of the flight.
Your booking is not recognized
- Check that the Aeroplan number was added before check-in and is attached to the correct passenger.
- Sign out of a different loyalty profile if your device autofills another account.
- If you are traveling as a companion, confirm that you are on the same reservation as the qualifying Aeroplan member.
- For a United MileagePlus claim, verify that the MileagePlus number is on the Air Canada booking.
The connection is slow or drops
Air Canada specifically warns that network changes, traffic, outages, technical limits and signal strength can affect service. Retry after a short interval, move the device so its Wi‑Fi antenna is not obstructed, and save work locally when possible. No official speed or continuous-uptime guarantee is stated, so plan time-sensitive work around the possibility of an interruption.
The flight was listed as equipped but is offline
An equipment change, system fault or temporary outage can make a previously listed flight unavailable. The airline’s availability tool is limited to the next five days and can change as operations change. Treat the result as a current status indicator, not a promise that service will remain available for the entire flight.
When to stop troubleshooting
If the crew confirms that the system is offline, repeated device resets will not restore it. Save what you can, use offline documents and switch to your backup communication plan. Air Canada’s terms do not state a compensation or refund amount for an unavailable complimentary session, so do not budget on receiving a cash credit when service fails.
How the international rollout differs from the regular Aeroplan benefit
Do not combine two separate programs in your planning:
| Benefit | Scope and timing | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| General complimentary Wi‑Fi | Current service information covers equipped flights within North America and to and from Sun destinations. | Check the exact flight, aircraft assignment and portal eligibility. |
| Full long-haul international Wi‑Fi | Air Canada describes expansion by the end of 2026; availability is not universal while the rollout is incomplete. | Use the flight-level lookup and confirm near departure. |
| International free texting | Available on equipped international flights under separate terms. | Confirm that the flight supports texting; texting is not proof of full browsing access. |
| Aeroplan Elite Wi‑Fi 12-month plan | The 2025 plan was automatically extended through 2026 for Aeroplan 75K and Super Elite members who selected it as a 2025 Select Benefit and requalified in 2026. | Both conditions had to be met; this elite extension is separate from the general North America/Sun-destination offer. |
Members who did not select the 2025 benefit or did not requalify for status in 2026 should not assume the extension applies. Conversely, the extension does not change the basic requirement that a flight have usable Wi‑Fi equipment. An elite plan is not evidence that every itinerary, aircraft or international route has the same service.

From a budgeting perspective, the connection itself does not require a separate Wi‑Fi purchase when you qualify and service is available. The financial risk is not an unexpected access fee described by Air Canada; it is relying on an unguaranteed connection for work, a transfer, a remote appointment or another task that could incur costs if it fails.
Best Value
- It can be a gift option
- Comes with secure packaging
- Helpful in various ways
- Download boarding passes, itineraries and essential documents before leaving the airport.
- Save offline copies of presentations, tickets and contact details.
- Tell an employer or client that inflight connectivity can be interrupted by outages, congestion or aircraft changes.
- Keep an alternative communication plan for international travel, especially when only texting—not full browsing—is confirmed.
Air Canada does not require a new device for this service. Use an existing Wi‑Fi-capable device that you can keep charged; buying travel hardware solely to qualify is not supported by the airline’s stated requirements. A travel router, headphones or power bank may be useful for other reasons, but none is listed as a condition of access.
A simple preflight checklist
- Add the correct Aeroplan number before check-in.
- Check the exact flight in Air Canada’s tool during the five-day window.
- Download critical material and make a backup plan.
- Charge the device and confirm its Wi‑Fi function.
- Review the portal’s privacy and advertising consent before boarding if those terms affect your decision.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Air Canada Wi‑Fi free for every Aeroplan member?
No. Your Aeroplan number must be on the reservation or added before check-in, and the aircraft and service must be equipped and accessible. Business Class passengers, same-reservation companions and United MileagePlus members may also qualify under Air Canada’s terms.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →How do I know whether my flight has Wi‑Fi?
Use Air Canada’s flight-availability tool and search by the exact flight number and date. The tool displays only flights departing within the next five days, so check again when your departure enters that window.
What network do I join onboard?
Enable Wi‑Fi, select “ACWiFi.com,” open a browser and visit acwifi.com if the portal does not open automatically. Follow the prompts and accept the displayed terms.
Can I use the benefit on an international flight?
Full long-haul international Wi‑Fi is being expanded, with Air Canada describing a rollout by the end of 2026. Do not assume every international flight is online. Equipped international flights may offer free texting under separate terms.
Can two devices use one free session at the same time?
Air Canada’s May 2025 announcement describes transferring a session by repeating the connection steps on another device; the new connection disconnects the first. It does not promise simultaneous use on multiple devices.
What personal-data consent is required?
Air Canada says users must consent to personal information being used for third-party advertising and to inflight browsing data being used for group insights and advertising-effectiveness measurement. Its notice says those uses do not apply to users under 18.
What if Wi‑Fi is listed but does not work onboard?
Aircraft changes, outages, congestion, network adjustments, technical limitations and signal strength can affect service. Retry the portal, ask the crew whether connectivity is active and use offline materials if the system remains unavailable.
Does the Aeroplan Elite Wi‑Fi plan replace the regular free benefit?
No. The 2025 12-month plan extension applies specifically to Aeroplan 75K and Super Elite members who selected it as a 2025 Select Benefit and requalified in 2026. It is separate from the general offer on eligible North American and Sun-destination flights.
The Bottom Line
Air Canada Wi‑Fi is complimentary for eligible Aeroplan members when the number is attached before check-in and the specific aircraft has accessible service. Check the exact flight within Air Canada’s five-day lookup window, connect through “ACWiFi.com,” and review the required data-use consent. Treat international coverage, speed and uninterrupted service as flight-specific rather than guaranteed.
