Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteStart by separating a lost receiver connection from a receiver that is connected but reporting weak or unstable position quality. Then check the installed display’s receiver diagnostics, software and configuration, and—if controllers or implements are also affected—the machine’s network status. Menu names and remedies vary by display, receiver generation, machine, and software version, so use the matching John Deere operator manual before making adjustments or repairs.
Why is my John Deere GPS not working?
“GPS not working” can describe several different faults. A display may have lost communication with the receiver; the receiver may be communicating while position quality is poor; or a display, configuration, controller, or machine-network problem may be disrupting guidance or implement behavior. These conditions call for different checks.

- Receiver or alert icon flashes: check for lost receiver communication.
- Receiver appears connected, but position drops or accuracy worsens: review receiver signal and position diagnostics.
- Steering changes after moving a receiver or changing machines: check the applicable terrain compensation guidance.
- Maps, display functions, or implements behave unexpectedly: record configuration and software details; check relevant machine-network diagnostics if available.
What does “receiver communication lost” mean on a John Deere display?
John Deere’s 4640 onscreen help says a flashing receiver and alert icon indicate that communication with the GPS receiver has been lost. That is different from a connected receiver reporting weak signal or poor position quality.

- 10.4‑inch LT104AC54000 LCD display panel, compatible replacement screen for John Deere GreenStar 3 GS3 2630 agricultural monitor.
- It is ideal to replace cracked, faded, dim or non‑displaying original screen. Matches original mounting and connector, easy for field equipment repair, restores normal display function for your farm guidance monitor。
What to check
- Record the complete alert and any accompanying machine message before clearing or dismissing it.
- Open the receiver status or diagnostic page available on the installed display and check whether the receiver is recognized.
- Use the operator manual for the exact machine and receiver to guide any inspection of power, harnesses, connectors, or mounting. The 4640 help does not provide a universal connector-inspection checklist.
If the display continues to report lost communication, do not assume the receiver itself has failed. The symptom establishes that communication is missing; it does not identify whether the cause is the receiver, its connection, power, or another machine-specific issue.
Why is my StarFire receiver losing signal or accuracy?
If the receiver remains visible to the display, inspect several diagnostics together rather than treating one reading as a pass/fail result. John Deere’s 4640 StarFire receiver data-log help describes GPS accuracy, satellites used, navigation mode, differential mode, StarFire signal quality, and PDOP. Menu labels and available readings differ among displays.
Read the diagnostics as a group
- GPS accuracy and position behavior: compare the displayed indicator with what the machine is doing. A status value is useful evidence, but it is not a guarantee of field accuracy.
- Satellites used: the 4640 help says satellites are not included in the position solution until they are above a 5-degree elevation mask. A satellite count alone does not establish that the position is reliable.
- PDOP: John Deere describes a PDOP below 2 as optimal in this 4640 data-log help. Treat that as guidance for the metric on that page, not a universal accuracy threshold for every receiver or operating condition.
- StarFire signal quality: the same help page describes a value above 5 as normal for its stated metric. Do not apply that figure to a different model or differently defined display reading.
- Navigation and differential modes: check which modes are reported and whether they match the receiver and correction service in use.
The 7000/7500 display help separately describes a health view that includes GNSS signal percentage. Follow the labels and interpretation supplied for the display actually installed; readings from one generation should not be treated as direct equivalents to another generation’s indicators.

Check receiver generation and correction availability
Correction labels and availability depend on receiver generation and region. John Deere’s 4640 help associates the following correction labels with specific StarFire generations and regional systems:
| Receiver or correction | Association described in John Deere 4640 help |
|---|---|
| SF2 | StarFire 3000 |
| SF3 | StarFire 6000 |
| SF-RTK | StarFire 7000 |
| WAAS | Availability noted in North America |
| EGNOS | Availability noted in Europe |
These are not interchangeable labels or a promise that every service is available with every receiver, machine, or location. The same 4640 help notes that a display’s “GPS” status can mean a third-party receiver has acquired signal; the display does not provide accuracy information for that receiver in the same way it does for a supported StarFire receiver.
Can a receiver move or calibration change guidance behavior?
StarFire terrain compensation uses the receiver’s terrain compensation module (TCM) to account for machine motion such as roll and pitch. John Deere says accurate calibration is necessary for proper operation. Its help states that integrated StarFire 6000, 7000, and 7500 receivers are factory calibrated; if field calibration is needed, follow the operator manual for the exact receiver rather than applying a single procedure across generations.

Why are the display, maps, or implements behaving incorrectly?
A display symptom is not automatically a GPS-receiver fault. Software, configuration, machine integration, and controller or network issues can also affect what appears on screen or how an implement behaves. John Deere’s historical 2630 release notes list software- and configuration-specific issues involving maps, Section Control, RowSense, and status errors. Those examples show why a fix for an older display may not apply to a 4640, G5, or another software release.
Record the machine and configuration details
- Display model and software version
- Receiver model and software version, if shown
- Machine model and serial details
- Implement and controller configuration
- Full alert or status code, plus the conditions when it appears
These details help distinguish a repeatable configuration or software symptom from a connection or receiver-status problem. A historic release-note item is not, by itself, evidence that the same issue exists on your machine.

When the CAN bus or implement may be involved
On its 4640 help page, John Deere says CAN bus utilization of 45 percent or higher could contribute to a controller or implement not operating as expected. The page also says some ISOBUS implements cannot work above 25 percent bus load and that a working StarFire receiver accounts for about 5–7 percent bus load. These are diagnostic observations for the described 4640 context—not proof that the receiver caused a particular implement fault, nor universal limits for every machine.
If available, use the display’s bus-utilization diagnostic as one clue alongside the fault message and equipment configuration. Do not unplug an implement or controller as a test unless the machine manual or dealer guidance directs you to do so.
How should I handle software updates or StarFire 6000 data export?
Find update instructions for the exact display, receiver, or controller on John Deere’s official StellarSupport product pages. Do not choose a release just because it is newer: compatibility and installation steps are product-specific.

Confirm the release and installation method
As listed on the observed StellarSupport page, StarFire 7500 version 2.70F had a September 2026 release date, and G5/G5 Plus version 11.3.4160-XX had a June 2026 release date. Software listings can change; check the applicable product page for the current release and its installation instructions before updating.
John Deere’s help says remote software updates for StarFire receivers and machine controllers require an active JDLink subscription. Some machine controllers are not compatible with Service ADVISOR Remote reprogramming. An installation failure may cause the system to roll back to the previous software version. Follow the official instructions for the specific product and machine.
USB workflows documented for StarFire 6000
John Deere’s 18-1 release notes describe StarFire 6000 file-manager options to capture, delete, export, import, and update receiver files or software. In that workflow, export, import, and update actions become available when a USB drive is inserted into the receiver’s onboard USB port. Those notes do not establish a universal USB format or capacity. Check the StarFire 6000 operator manual for requirements before using a drive; this workflow should not be assumed to apply to other receiver generations.
When should I contact a John Deere dealer?
Use the display’s status and diagnostic pages to narrow the symptom, but a persistent fault may require model-specific service information or dealer tools. John Deere’s available help does not provide a universal fault-code dictionary or one wiring-repair sequence for every machine and display setup.
Contact a dealer or consult the correct service manual if the alert persists, communication repeatedly drops, a controller or implement remains inoperative, or the required test or software procedure is not covered by the operator manual. Provide the full code, display and receiver models, software versions, machine model and serial details, implement configuration, and the conditions when the fault occurs.
