First copy the exact transaction hash, confirm the Starknet network and account, and check that hash through an independent RPC and a block explorer. A wallet’s “pending” label is only a user-interface state. The transaction may be accepted, reverted, rejected before mempool admission, evicted after waiting, or delayed in a StarkGate bridge stage. Once you know which state applies, you can decide whether to wait, replace the transaction, or construct a fresh submission without risking a nonce collision or duplicate swap.
What “private DeFi transaction” means on Starknet
A private Starknet DeFi transaction is still a Starknet transaction. Privacy-oriented SDKs can route a transfer or swap through a privacy pool, a paymaster, and an invoke anonymizer that calls an external contract such as a swap executor. The wallet signs and submits the transaction; Starknet nodes propagate it, include it in a block, or reject or evict it. “Private” describes how the flow attempts to limit exposed sender information, not a separate invisible blockchain with a different transaction-status system.

That distinction matters when a swap appears to disappear. The privacy SDK, paymaster, anonymizer, router, account contract, and wallet can each display a different stage, while the Starknet network recognizes only the submitted transaction hash, nonce, fee resources, execution result, and receipt. Diagnose the underlying Starknet transaction before changing anything in the privacy flow.

First response: preserve the evidence and identify the transaction
Before clicking “speed up,” “cancel,” or “swap” again, capture the details that support staff and RPC tools need. A missing hash is not proof that funds are lost, and a visible pending row is not proof that the transaction reached a mempool.

- Account: Record the full Starknet account address that signed the transaction.
- dApp and operation: Note the privacy application, pool or paymaster (if shown), token pair, amount, recipient, and whether the action was a swap, transfer, deposit, or withdrawal.
- Time and wallet status: Save the submission time, wallet error text, and screenshots. Keep the original calldata or SDK response if your application exposes it.
Never send a seed phrase, private key, or raw signed message to a support agent. Legitimate support can investigate with the hash, account, nonce, network, and transaction summary.
Check the hash outside the wallet
Use two independent views: a trusted Starknet RPC and a reputable Starknet explorer. Starknet.js exposes getTransactionStatus for status checks and getSimulateTransaction for reproducing execution and estimating fees. An explorer adds the block, receipt, events, and execution details that a wallet may hide.
- Query status with the exact hash. Ask the RPC for the transaction status on the same network used by the wallet. If the RPC reports a block, retrieve the transaction and receipt for that block.
- Open the same hash in an explorer. Confirm that the account, nonce, calldata summary, and network match your intended operation. Do not assume a similarly timed transaction is yours.
- Read the execution result. Distinguish an accepted transaction from one that was accepted and then reverted. Inspect events for token transfers, swap output, fee payment, and privacy-pool or bridge state changes.
- Record the provider responses. A “not found” response from one RPC can reflect provider visibility, while a hash shown by another provider may already be pending or included.
Starknet’s P2P mempool design does not synchronize existing mempool contents to newly connected nodes. Consequently, a transaction can be temporarily invisible to a particular node even when another provider has seen it. Treat a single “not found” response as a diagnosis to verify, not as permission to send a replacement.
Classify the transaction before choosing a fix
| What you see | What it means | Safe next action |
|---|---|---|
| Block and receipt, execution accepted | The transaction was included successfully. Check events and balances to confirm the privacy transfer or swap result. | Do not resend. If the UI is stale, refresh the wallet and dApp, then reconcile events and token balances. |
| Block and receipt, execution reverted | Starknet included the transaction, but contract execution failed. Fees may still have been charged, depending on the transaction and account implementation. | Do not repeat blindly. Identify the revert reason, allowance, slippage, deadline, pool, and account-state condition before constructing a new call. |
| RPC or explorer shows pending | The hash is known but has not yet reached a finalized block. | Check nonce, fee resources, balance, and current network conditions. Wait or use a supported same-nonce replacement only when the protocol and wallet allow it. |
| RPC and explorer both return not found | The submission may have been rejected before mempool admission, evicted, or not propagated to the providers you queried. | Verify the account’s nonce and balance first. Only then construct a fresh, correctly signed transaction. |
| Wallet says pending; independent checks show nothing | The wallet retained a local activity row without proving network admission. | Keep the hash and local error details, query another trusted provider, and avoid creating a duplicate until nonce state is known. |
| Bridge status is waiting for L1, proof, or finalization | The delay belongs to StarkGate’s cross-chain lifecycle, not necessarily to the DeFi call. | Use the bridge Activity view and linked explorers. Do not resubmit the DeFi transaction to accelerate a bridge stage. |
Check nonce and fee resources before any resubmission
Verify the next nonce
Starknet accounts use a nonce to order transactions. Query the account’s current nonce and compare it with the nonce recorded in the missing or pending transaction. A wallet may show a pending call while the network has already accepted a later nonce, or it may have rejected the earlier call before admission. Sending a new transaction with an incorrect nonce can create another pending transaction or collide with one you did not intend to replace.
Use the wallet’s transaction details or an account/RPC query to obtain the nonce; do not infer it from the number of rows in activity history. Privacy SDKs, paymasters, and account-abstraction layers can make the visible sequence differ from what you expect, but the signed Starknet transaction still has one network nonce.

Confirm V3 resource bounds and payment token
Version 3 transactions specify resource bounds. The account and protocol configuration determine whether fees can be paid in ETH, STRK, or another supported arrangement. Before resubmitting, confirm:
- the account has enough of the fee token for the estimated maximum fee and any tip;
- the resource bounds are valid for current network conditions;
- the paymaster has the required sponsorship or token balance, if the privacy flow uses one;
- the account contract supports the transaction version and fee mode you are constructing; and
- the swap or transfer still has enough balance after accounting for the fee and any pool-specific amount.
The starknet.py documentation describes V3 fee estimation and optional tips. Automatic estimation applies a multiplier to absorb fluctuations, but an estimate is not a guarantee of inclusion. Re-estimate immediately before a fresh submission rather than copying stale resource bounds from an earlier attempt.

Use Starknet.js getSimulateTransaction, or the equivalent simulation method in your SDK, against the current state. Simulation can expose an expired deadline, insufficient allowance, failed privacy-pool proof, invalid recipient, unavailable route, or a fee that exceeds the account’s resources. A successful simulation does not guarantee inclusion, but it is safer than repeating a call that is known to revert.
When and how a same-nonce replacement can work
A replacement is not a generic “send again” action. It is a new transaction from the same account using the same nonce, with higher fee parameters, intended to supersede a pending transaction. The Starknet v0.14 mempool notes describe replacement when both the tip and maximum L2 gas price are increased by at least 10 percent. The exact rule is protocol-version and node-policy dependent, so follow the wallet’s documented speed-up flow rather than manually editing calldata.
- Confirm through an RPC or explorer that the original hash is pending and that its nonce belongs to your account.
- Confirm that the wallet supports Starknet same-nonce replacement for this transaction version and fee mode.
- Use the wallet’s Speed up or equivalent command. Let it preserve the original call and nonce while increasing the supported fee fields by the required amount.
- Review the destination contract, token amounts, slippage, deadline, and privacy settings before signing. A replacement with altered calldata can execute a different operation.
- Save the replacement hash and monitor both hashes. Only one transaction for that nonce should ultimately be included; the other should be rejected or remain absent.
Starknet.js warns that resubmitting the identical signed transaction with the same nonce is rejected. Re-signing the same bytes does not create a speed-up. Conversely, increasing fees without preserving the intended calldata can turn a recovery attempt into an unintended transfer or swap.

What to do when the transaction was evicted
The Starknet v0.14 notes describe a configured five-minute mempool time-to-live for transactions that cannot be included. The P2P specification also states that most transactions are included or evicted quickly and that a new node does not receive the old contents of another node’s mempool. After eviction, the original hash will not become accepted later; you need a fresh transaction.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBefore creating it, wait long enough to rule out provider lag, then verify the account nonce. If the account’s next nonce is still the nonce used by the missing transaction and no provider shows the original, construct a new transaction with:
- fresh V3 resource bounds and a current fee estimate;
- a valid ETH or STRK fee balance, according to the account and protocol support;
- the same intended recipient, token amounts, privacy-pool parameters, and slippage limits, unless your simulation shows one of them must change;
- a newly signed payload from the correct account; and
- an application-level idempotency check so the dApp does not perform the swap twice if the first call later appears.
If the nonce has advanced, do not reuse it. Investigate the transaction that consumed it and inspect its receipt and events before attempting another swap.
Fixes for an accepted but reverted private swap
“Stuck” sometimes means the hash is complete but the contract reverted. A reverted transaction cannot be repaired by speeding it up. Read the receipt and revert data, then check the state that the call depended on.
Allowance and balance
Confirm that the privacy pool, router, or swap executor was approved for the exact token and that the approval transaction was accepted. Check the account or pool balance after fees; a balance that was sufficient when the quote was displayed may be insufficient when the call executes.

Slippage and deadline
Private routing does not freeze market prices. A swap can revert when the output falls below its minimum or when a deadline passes while the transaction waits. Requote the route and set a risk-appropriate slippage limit; do not increase slippage automatically just to force inclusion.
Paymaster or anonymizer conditions
A paymaster can reject an unsupported token, exhausted sponsorship, invalid fee data, or an account that does not meet its policy. An invoke anonymizer can fail if its proof, pool state, or external-contract call is invalid. The revert trace should identify which contract rejected the call. Contact the dApp with that trace rather than resending an opaque payload.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Separate StarkGate bridge delays from DeFi execution
If your private DeFi operation begins or ends with a StarkGate transfer, the bridge has its own L1 and L2 stages. A deposit can remain NOT_RECEIVED while L1 confirmations accumulate and later change to ACCEPTED_ON_L2. A withdrawal requires L2 initiation, a proof or state update, and L1 finalization. None of those stages is accelerated by resubmitting the swap call.
- Open StarkGate’s Activity view and select the bridge transfer.
- Follow the linked L1 and L2 explorer records, confirming that both use the expected addresses and network.
- Identify the current stage: waiting for L1 confirmations, accepted on L2, proving, or awaiting L1 finalization.
- Allow for congestion, gas-fee requirements, and proof or cross-chain processing. Submit a bridge retry only when the bridge interface explicitly offers one for that stage.
Bridge congestion, insufficient gas fees, and proof delays are different failure modes from a missing DeFi transaction. Keep the bridge transfer hash and the separate swap hash in your records so support can trace them independently.
Common mistakes that make recovery worse
- Trusting the wallet label: “Pending” is not network evidence. Query the hash independently.
- Searching the wrong network: Mainnet and testnet explorers do not share transaction records.
- Sending a second swap before checking nonce: The first transaction may still be propagating, creating duplicate execution risk.
- Rebroadcasting identical signed bytes: Starknet.js documents rejection of the same signed transaction with the same nonce.
- Editing calldata to make a replacement: A fee replacement must preserve the intended operation; hand edits can change the recipient, token, or contract.
- Ignoring fee-token support: V3 resource bounds and ETH/STRK payment support depend on the account and protocol configuration.
- Increasing slippage without understanding the revert: This can turn a price-protection failure into an expensive execution.
- Sharing secrets with “recovery” agents: No legitimate diagnosis requires a seed phrase or private key.
A practical decision tree
| Question | If yes | If no |
|---|---|---|
| Does an independent RPC and explorer show a block? | Read the receipt: accepted means reconcile events; reverted means diagnose contract state. | Continue to nonce and provider checks. |
| Do both providers show the hash as pending? | Check nonce, V3 resources, fee balance, and wallet-supported replacement. | Query another trusted provider and verify the network and account. |
| Is the original nonce still the account’s next nonce? | If the hash is absent after the mempool window, construct a fresh transaction after simulation. | Find the transaction that consumed the nonce before sending anything else. |
| Is the status tied to StarkGate? | Follow Activity, L1 confirmations, L2 acceptance, proof, and finalization. | Continue diagnosing the DeFi transaction itself. |
When to contact the wallet or dApp
Escalate after you have the hash, network, account address, nonce, status responses, and a concise calldata summary. Include screenshots of the wallet state and the explorer receipt, but redact balances or addresses that are not needed for the investigation. Ask the team to confirm whether the transaction reached their RPC, whether the nonce is free, whether the paymaster or anonymizer rejected it, and whether their interface supports a same-nonce replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I cancel a stuck Starknet private transaction?
There is no universal wallet-level cancel button. A cancellation is effectively another same-account transaction using the same nonce, and replacement rules apply. First verify that the original is pending, then use only a wallet-supported replacement flow that meets the current fee-bump requirement.
How long should I wait before declaring a transaction missing?
Check the hash immediately through independent providers, then allow for propagation and the configured mempool window. Starknet v0.14 notes describe a five-minute TTL for transactions that cannot be included, but provider visibility and network conditions can vary. Use nonce evidence, not the wallet timer alone, to decide whether a fresh submission is safe.
Will a private transaction hide the hash from Starknet explorers?
No. Privacy SDKs can reduce exposed sender information through pools, paymasters, or anonymizers, but the resulting Starknet transaction is still submitted, propagated, and recorded through normal Starknet mechanisms.
