The safest route is to start with the company’s own investor-relations (IR) website, open the event or quarterly-results entry for the period you need, and match the release, call, webcast, transcript and any regulatory filing by date and reporting period. Search engines are useful for finding that IR site, but the issuer-linked event page should be your verification anchor.
Use the workflow below to locate the right materials, confirm that they belong to the same quarter or fiscal year, and avoid confusing a headline non-GAAP figure, an old replay or a third-party-hosted page with the company’s filed financial information.

What you are trying to verify
An “earnings release” is the company’s announcement of financial results. An “investor call” (often called an earnings call) is the management briefing and question-and-answer session that discusses those results. A related SEC filing, presentation, prepared remarks, transcript or webcast recording may appear beside them, but each is a separate record.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →| Record | What it contains | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Earnings release | Headline revenue, profit, cash-flow, guidance and other results, usually in a press-release format | Identify the period, publication date, units and whether figures are GAAP or adjusted |
| Investor call | Management’s prepared discussion and analyst questions | Confirm the event date, time zone, issuer and period; listen for explanations and forward-looking commentary |
| Webcast or replay | Audio or video of the call | Use the issuer’s event page to determine whether it is live, archived or expired |
| Transcript or prepared remarks | Written version of the call, sometimes posted in stages | Search exact wording and speaker comments, while checking whether the document is complete |
| Presentation or supplement | Slides, operating metrics, tables or additional schedules | Check definitions, units and reconciliations for measures used in the release or call |
| Regulatory filing | Formal disclosure submitted to a regulator, such as a U.S. Form 8-K and attached exhibits | Use the filing for regulatory text and filed financial statements, not merely the headline summary |
These records should describe the same reporting period, but they are not interchangeable. A release can be updated or reformatted, a transcript can contain transcription errors, and a replay can disappear after a stated retention period.

Start at the issuer’s investor-relations website
Use a targeted search
- Search the exact company name followed by
investor relations. For a specific event, addearnings release, quarterly resultsorearnings call webcast. - Choose the result that is the company’s IR site or that links directly to it. Do not treat a search-result snippet, a market-data page or an unaffiliated transcript as proof of authenticity.
- On the IR site, open the section labeled News, Quarterly Results, Events, Presentations or a similar archive. Labels differ by issuer.
The company’s own navigation is important because it supplies the context connecting the release and call. DoubleVerify, for example, tells investors to monitor its IR site and newsroom alongside press releases, SEC filings and public calls and webcasts. That is a useful model for finding the issuer’s complete set of materials, not a rule that every company uses the same page names.
Recognize a legitimate hosted page
Some issuers outsource the technology that displays IR content or hosts a webcast. A third-party domain is not automatically unofficial: an SEC-hosted annual report describes IR content networks that can include news, stock data, fundamentals, regulatory filings and corporate-governance information. Verify the page by following a link from the issuer’s own IR site, checking that the issuer name and branding match, and confirming that the event details agree with the release. A standalone page reached only through an advertisement or an unrelated search result deserves additional caution.
Find the exact quarterly-results or event entry
Filter by fiscal period, not only calendar quarter
Companies use different fiscal calendars. “Q2” may end in a month other than June, and a fiscal year can be named for the year in which it ends. Read the period printed in the release and event title rather than inferring it from the posting month.
Look for a single event hub
Well-organized archives group related records under one event. Meta’s event archive, for example, links a press release, presentation, transcript and webcast for earnings calls. JPMorganChase’s events page groups an earnings event with a release, presentation, supplement, transcript, call and Form 10-Q. DoubleVerify’s page lists a release, webcast, transcript, financial spreadsheet and slides. These examples show what to look for; another issuer may distribute the same files across several pages.
Capture the identity details before opening files
- Issuer name and, if shown, ticker or legal entity
- Fiscal quarter or year and the period end date
- Release publication date
- Call date, start time and time zone
- Whether the page says live, upcoming, replay, archived or expired
- File type: release, filing, transcript, presentation, supplement or spreadsheet
Save or note these details first. They let you detect a mismatched quarter even when a search result uses a similar headline.

Verify the release itself
Check the header and reporting period
Read the release header, dateline and first financial table. Confirm the company name, the fiscal period covered, the release date and the currency or other units. A release dated in April might report a quarter that ended in March, while an event posted in May could discuss a different fiscal calendar.
Separate GAAP from non-GAAP numbers
Look for labels such as GAAP, non-GAAP, adjusted, constant currency or organic. Check whether the release supplies a reconciliation from the adjusted measure to the corresponding GAAP measure. Never compare an adjusted operating margin from one company with a GAAP margin from another without understanding the definitions.

Confirm units and scope
- Determine whether amounts are in dollars, millions, billions, percentages or per-share values.
- Check whether results are reported for the consolidated company, a segment or a continuing operation.
- Read footnotes for acquisitions, divestitures, discontinued operations, stock-based compensation and tax adjustments.
- Check whether prior-period figures were recast or restated.
Cross-check a U.S. issuer with SEC disclosure
For a U.S. SEC filer, use the issuer’s SEC filing page or the SEC filing linked from the release as a second verification point. Mastercard’s Q2 2026 earnings page says its release is available on the IR website and will be furnished with the SEC on Form 8-K. That is an issuer-specific example, not a guarantee that every company or jurisdiction follows the same timing or filing form.
- From the company’s IR event page, open the link labeled SEC filing, 8-K, filings or similar.
- Confirm that the filing date and attached exhibit identify the same quarter and release.
- Read the filing and exhibits for the formal disclosure, cautionary language and filed tables.
- Resolve discrepancies by checking whether one document is an amended filing, a later update or a presentation using adjusted figures.
Companies outside the United States may file with a different regulator or use a different disclosure timetable. Do not infer that a U.S. Form 8-K requirement applies to a non-U.S. issuer.
Verify the investor call and webcast
Check event time and time zone
Open the call details from the same event entry and read the date, start time and time zone. Convert the time to your own location only after recording the issuer’s stated zone. Calendar pages can remain online after an event has ended, so an old listing is not evidence that a call is currently live.

Use the issuer’s webcast link
- For a future event, choose Webcast, Listen to Webcast or the equivalent registration link.
- For a past event, look for Replay, Recording or Listen to Webcast.
- Check the page’s current status and the recording date before relying on it.
- If the player fails, return to the event hub and try the transcript, prepared remarks or presentation; those files may remain available after audio access ends.
Mastercard says the replay for its cited event will be available for 30 days. Treat “30 days” as a detail of that Mastercard Q2 2026 event, not a general replay-retention rule. Other issuers may retain recordings for a shorter or longer period, or remove them without an equivalent notice.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsLocate transcripts, prepared remarks and presentations
Expect staged publication
Some companies post written materials immediately after the call and add a full transcript later. Microsoft says prepared remarks would be posted immediately after its call until the complete transcript was available, and that the replay and transcript could be viewed on its IR site. Therefore, a page that initially contains prepared remarks is not necessarily the final transcript.
Match every document to the event
Before quoting or comparing a transcript, check its title, date, fiscal period and speaker list against the event page. A transcript from the prior quarter can have nearly identical wording. Presentations and supplements may also cover a broader investor day rather than the earnings call you intended to analyze.
Use the files for different questions
- Prepared remarks: management’s scripted priorities and explanations.
- Transcript: searchable wording, including analyst questions and answers.
- Slides: charts, segment metrics and definitions that may not appear in the release.
- Spreadsheet or supplement: detailed calculations and operating data.
- Replay: tone, emphasis and the complete sequence of prepared remarks and questions.
Compare the release, call and filing without mixing measures
Use a four-part comparison
| Comparison | Question to ask | Common error caught |
|---|---|---|
| Period and date | Do all documents cover the same fiscal quarter or year, and when was each published? | Using a prior-quarter transcript or a release issued after a later update |
| Document type | Is this a press release, filing, transcript, presentation or replay? | Treating commentary or slides as filed financial statements |
| Measure basis | Is the number GAAP, non-GAAP or another adjusted definition? | Comparing adjusted earnings with GAAP net income |
| Units and reconciliation | Are currency, scale, per-share basis and reconciliation stated? | Reading millions as billions or accepting an unreconciled headline measure |
Read the non-GAAP warning
Microsoft’s FY2026 Q4 earnings-call transcript includes this caution: “The non-GAAP financial measures provided should not be considered as a substitute for or superior to the measures of financial performance prepared in accordance with GAAP.” Use that principle whenever management highlights adjusted results: treat them as supplemental, find the company’s reconciliation and compare them with the corresponding GAAP information.
Investigate apparent differences before calling them contradictions
- A press release may round figures that a filing presents to additional decimals.
- A presentation may show constant-currency growth while the filing reports reported-currency growth.
- A call may discuss a segment or operational metric that is not a consolidated GAAP line item.
- A transcript may paraphrase a speaker or contain a transcription error.
- A later amended filing may supersede an earlier exhibit.

What to do when materials are missing
The release is visible but the call is not
Check the event archive rather than the news feed. Some issuers publish the release in News and place the call under Events. Search the IR site for the exact fiscal period plus webcast or replay.
The replay link no longer works
Confirm that the event is old and that the issuer has not listed a replacement link. Look for a transcript, prepared remarks, slides or a filing in the same event hub. Do not describe an event as currently available merely because its archive page remains indexed.
The transcript is not complete
Use the prepared remarks for the scripted section and label it accurately. Return later to the same event page for the complete transcript if the issuer says it will be posted. Do not present prepared remarks as a full question-and-answer transcript.
The IR page is hosted on another domain
Navigate to it from the issuer’s main IR site and confirm that issuer name, event title, date and period match. A vendor-hosted page can be part of an official IR experience, but an unlinked page should not be treated as verified.

How to cite or save what you found
For your own records, save the issuer name, fiscal period, document title, publication date, event date and the exact page address. Keep separate notes for the release, filing, replay and transcript rather than one undated bookmark. If you quote management, identify that the words came from the transcript or replay and preserve the event period. If you use a number from slides or a supplement, record its unit and definition.
When a replay has a stated retention window, note the date you accessed it. A future reader should be able to tell whether the link was live at the time and whether the issuer’s archive may have changed.
Common traps that make a result look verified when it is not
- Search-snippet trust: snippets can show an old date, wrong quarter or cached wording.
- Calendar-quarter assumptions: fiscal quarters do not always align with January–March, April–June, July–September and October–December.
- Headline-only reading: an adjusted earnings-per-share figure may omit the GAAP result or reconciliation.
- Live-status assumptions: an event page can remain online after a call ends.
- Transcript substitution: a third-party transcript may omit questions, correct wording or identify the wrong period.
- Filing equivalence: a release, transcript, presentation and filing are related records, not four versions of one document.
- Unit blindness: tables in millions, billions and per-share amounts can sit on adjacent pages.
- Entity confusion: a parent company, subsidiary or similarly named issuer may publish separate results.
When a secondary source is useful
Financial-news sites, data platforms and transcript vendors can help you discover an event or search across companies. Use them as convenience layers, not as the final authenticity check. Return to the issuer’s IR event page to confirm period, date, event identity and the original document. For filed information, consult the relevant regulator’s record when the issuer provides a link.
This approach is especially important when a vendor page carries the issuer’s branding but is not linked from the official site, when a transcript lacks a publication date, or when a replay page does not state whether the recording is current or archived.
A repeatable research note for each quarter
Create one note with these fields:
- Company and legal issuer name
- Fiscal period and period-end date
- Release title and publication date
- Call title, event date, start time and time zone
- Release, filing, webcast, replay, transcript, presentation and supplement locations
- GAAP measures used
- Non-GAAP measures and the company’s reconciliation location
- Replay availability statement and the date you checked it
- Any restatement, amended filing or document-version note
Filling these fields forces you to verify identity before interpreting performance. It also makes later-quarter comparisons more reliable because you are comparing like periods, document types and measurement bases.
