If an event organizer appears to be evading GST, first verify its registration on the GST Portal, preserve the ticket and payment records, and submit a factual report through the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) secure GST-evasion form. Use the GST grievance portal or helpdesk only for portal and technical problems. If your PAN was used for a registration you did not take, use the separate Search by PAN and Report workflow.
Choose the route that matches your problem
“GST complaint” can mean three different things. Selecting the correct channel prevents a tax-evasion report from being lost as a technical-support ticket, and prevents a portal problem from being sent to an investigating agency.

| What happened | Correct official route | What you should provide | What the route does |
|---|---|---|---|
| You suspect the organizer is evading GST, using a fake invoice, hiding taxable sales, or operating an unreported business | DGGI secure GST-evasion information form | Organizer identity, GSTIN or PAN if known, state/UT, event facts, amounts and readable evidence | Creates an intelligence report for tax officers to assess and investigate |
| The GST Portal will not load, a function fails, or you cannot complete an online process | GST Grievance Redressal Portal at https://selfservice.gstsystem.in or the GST helpdesk | Error details, screenshots, dates and any ticket or reference number | Records and tracks a portal or technical-support issue |
| A GST registration has been taken using your PAN without your consent | GST Portal: Search Taxpayer > Search by PAN > Report | Details requested for identity and contact validation, plus the registration you do not recognise | Routes the complaint to the jurisdictional officer for enquiry |
A DGGI report is not a ticket-refund request or a consumer-compensation claim. If the event was cancelled, the service was not delivered, or the organizer owes you money, pursue that dispute separately with the organizer, your payment provider or an appropriate consumer forum.
Verify the organizer before you report
Start with the GST Portal’s taxpayer search. Use the organizer’s GSTIN or UIN, if it appears on a ticket, invoice, website, email or payment message. The result can show the legal name, trade name, effective registration date, current status, administrative office, principal place of business, business activities and return-filing details. Save a PDF or screenshot showing the result and the date you checked it.

When the name on the ticket is not the legal name
Events are often marketed under a festival, venue or brand name while the legal supplier is a company, partnership or individual. Compare the trade name and legal name shown in the taxpayer search with the name on your receipt and payment record. Record the differences rather than assuming they prove fraud. Include the venue operator, ticketing intermediary and organizer separately when the documents identify different entities.
When no GSTIN is shown
An absent GSTIN on a receipt is a fact worth reporting, but it does not by itself establish evasion. Some businesses may not be registered or may have a registration or invoicing position that depends on their circumstances. Give DGGI the organizer’s exact name, event location, dates, price, the wording used to describe GST and the document you received. DGGI’s form is intended to receive information about unregistered businesses as well as other suspected evasion.
Check the registration status carefully
A cancelled, suspended or inactive status can matter, as can a registration whose principal place of business is in a different state. Capture the status and effective dates exactly as displayed. Do not state that the organizer “never filed returns” unless the portal information you saved actually supports that wording; describe what the search result shows and let the authority assess its significance.

Gather an evidence file
Keep the original files and make a working copy for the report. A concise, chronological evidence set is more useful than a large folder of duplicate screenshots.
| Evidence | What it can establish | How to preserve it |
|---|---|---|
| Event ticket, booking confirmation or pass | Supplier name, event, date, seat or package and amount paid | Save the original PDF or email and a readable image if needed |
| Invoice or receipt, including one that omits a GSTIN | Whether GST was separately charged, the invoice number and the issuer’s details | Keep every page and do not crop out the header, footer or terms |
| Payment proof | Amount, date, payment recipient and transaction reference | Retain the bank, card, wallet or UPI record; mask unrelated account information in a copy where possible |
| Advertisements and checkout screens | How the price and GST were represented before purchase | Save the page, email or message with its date and the event URL or sender |
| Venue and event details | Where and when the supply occurred and which entity appeared to run it | Record the venue, city, event dates and any organizer signage |
| Correspondence | Your request for an invoice or refund and the organizer’s response | Export emails or chats and keep dates, sender information and attachments |
| Calculation of the disputed GST | How much tax was shown or represented to you | Write the ticket price, GST line, total and currency; distinguish a displayed amount from an amount you calculated |
Separate observations from assumptions
Write down what you personally saw: for example, “The receipt dated 12 August 2026 shows ₹X as GST and no GSTIN.” If you infer that tax was not deposited, label it as a suspicion: “I am concerned that the amount may not have been reported.” Customers generally cannot verify an organizer’s return or payment records themselves. Avoid accusing an individual of criminal conduct when the documents only show an invoicing discrepancy.
Protect unnecessary personal information
Submit information needed to identify the transaction, but remove unrelated card numbers, passwords, identity documents and other customers’ data from attachments. Keep an unredacted original securely in case an officer asks for clarification. Do not alter dates, amounts or document metadata in a way that could make the record misleading.

File a suspected-evasion report with DGGI
DGGI describes its online page as a secure, OTP-verified public form for reliable GST-evasion information. The page, updated 16 October 2026, asks for a clear factual description that officers can investigate. It is designed for information about fake input tax credit, unreported businesses, fraudulent refunds and unregistered businesses, among other GST-evasion matters.
Step 1: Open the official DGGI report form
Use the DGGI GST-evasion information page, not an unofficial complaint website or a social-media account. Check that the page is the current government form before entering contact details. The form is an intelligence channel; it does not promise a refund or a decision on your event dispute.
Step 2: Describe the nature of the information
Select or state the category that best fits the facts, such as an unreported business, suspected false invoicing or another form of GST evasion. If more than one issue is involved, identify the primary concern first and explain the connection in the description. Do not select the most serious-sounding category merely because the organizer was unhelpful.
Step 3: Enter the organizer’s identifiers
Provide the GSTIN, PAN or entity name if you know it. These fields are optional on the DGGI form, so you can still report when the organizer has not disclosed a GSTIN. Use the legal or trade name exactly as it appears on the ticket, receipt, taxpayer search or advertisement, and explain any mismatch.
Step 4: Select the state or Union territory
Choose the state/UT connected with the organizer or the event and state the city and venue in your narrative. If the organizer is registered in one state but the event occurred in another, include both facts. DGGI publishes zonal and regional contacts for location-specific follow-up, so precise geography helps route the information.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsStep 5: Write a short, chronological description
Put the essential facts in the first sentences: who sold the ticket, what event occurred, when and where it occurred, how much you paid, how GST was shown, and what appears inconsistent. Then list the documents you can provide. State dates and amounts rather than conclusions.

Organizer or entity: [name shown on the document]
Event and venue: [event name, venue, city]
Event date(s): [date or date range]
Purchase date and amount: [date, currency and total]
GST representation: [GST amount or wording on the receipt/advertisement]
Registration detail: [GSTIN/UIN, or “not shown”; search result and date if checked]
Concern: [specific discrepancy, written as an observation or clearly labelled suspicion]
Evidence attached: [ticket, receipt, payment record, correspondence]
Replace each bracketed item with your own information before submitting. If you do not know an item, say so rather than guessing.
Step 6: Attach readable files
The form accepts PDF, DOCX, JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF and WEBP files. Each attachment can be up to 10 MB. Combine related pages into a clearly named PDF when that makes the chronology easier to follow, but do not reduce the resolution so far that invoice numbers or GST lines cannot be read. A short index in the description can identify “Attachment 1: ticket,” “Attachment 2: payment proof” and so on.
Step 7: Verify your contact details by OTP
Email and phone number are mandatory. Both are OTP-verified before final submission, and the DGGI form states that an OTP is valid for five minutes. Use contact details you can access during filing, enter the latest code promptly and check spam or blocked-message folders if an email does not appear.
Recommended Free Tools
Step 8: Submit and save the acknowledgement
After successful submission, an acknowledgement is sent to the verified email and phone details. Save the acknowledgement, the submitted description and copies of every attachment. Record the submission date and any reference number in your evidence folder. Do not submit repeated versions merely because you have not received an immediate outcome; use the acknowledgement when making a targeted follow-up.
How to report common event-organizer scenarios
The organizer charged GST but did not give an invoice
Report the missing invoice as a documentable event: include the payment record, ticket, checkout page, messages in which you requested an invoice and the organizer’s reply or silence. State whether the price was advertised as “inclusive of GST” or whether GST was added separately. A missing invoice may be relevant evidence, but it does not by itself prove that tax was not deposited.
The invoice has GST but no GSTIN
Attach the invoice exactly as issued and identify the seller. Explain where the GST amount appears and that no GSTIN is printed. Include a GST Portal search result if you found a matching entity, or say that you could not identify a registration. Avoid editing the invoice or filling in a GSTIN from a different company.

The organizer appears unregistered
Give DGGI the event, location, seller name, payment trail, advertising and the reason you believe the business may be unregistered. The DGGI form specifically accepts information about unregistered businesses. Do not assume that every event sale must have the same registration treatment; provide facts for the authority to examine.
You suspect GST was collected but not deposited
Customers normally cannot see the organizer’s tax returns or cash payments. Phrase the allegation as a suspicion and provide the strongest indirect evidence: the GST line on the receipt, the organizer’s GSTIN or claimed status, the total number or scale of sales if reliably advertised, and any inconsistent documents. Let DGGI verify reporting and payment records.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use the GST grievance channel for portal problems
The GST Welcome Kit directs taxpayers with technical or portal-related issues to the GST Grievance Redressal Portal at https://selfservice.gstsystem.in and the helpdesk number 1800-103-4786. The published helpdesk window is 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. A grievance receives an acknowledgement number that can be tracked.
Use this channel when, for example, a taxpayer search fails, a page displays an error, an OTP cannot be entered because of a portal fault, or an uploaded document is rejected unexpectedly. Include the exact time, browser or device if relevant, the page or function, the error message and a screenshot that does not expose unnecessary personal data.
The grievance system helps you use the portal; it is not a substitute for sending substantive information about an organizer’s suspected evasion to DGGI. You may have both a technical ticket and a separate DGGI report when a portal failure prevented you from verifying or downloading a record.

- Open Search Taxpayer on the GST Portal.
- Select Search by PAN and enter the requested PAN details.
- Review the registrations returned for that PAN.
- Select a registration that is not yours and choose Report.
- Complete the email and mobile validation and provide any additional identity details the portal requests.
- Save the complaint reference or confirmation.
According to the GST Portal’s PAN-misuse documentation, once the complaint is registered it is sent to the jurisdictional authority where the registration is claimed to have been fraudulently taken for enquiry and suitable action. This route is distinct from reporting an organizer’s invoice or payment practices unless your PAN is actually involved.
What happens after submission
Acknowledgement and jurisdictional contact
Keep the DGGI acknowledgement as proof that your information reached the form. If a jurisdiction-specific follow-up is necessary, DGGI publishes headquarters, zonal and regional contact details. Use the reference and a concise update rather than resending the entire file to multiple addresses.
No guaranteed investigation deadline
The official material described here does not publish a guaranteed investigation timeline or outcome for an individual report. An acknowledgement confirms receipt, not that tax evasion has been established or that a particular enforcement action will follow. Do not promise customers, colleagues or the organizer that an investigation will occur by a particular date.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Refunds and compensation are separate
A DGGI intelligence report does not automatically return the GST you paid, cancel a ticket or compensate you for a failed event. Request a refund from the organizer and, where appropriate, use your bank, card issuer, payment intermediary or a consumer forum under its own procedure. Keep those communications separate from the tax-evasion evidence so each authority can address the issue it handles.
Informant rewards are not automatic
DGGI describes the CBIC Informant Reward Scheme, under which a reward may be payable for genuine cases after recovery of evaded tax, subject to the applicable guidelines. The published information does not guarantee that a particular report will qualify or that any reward will be paid. Do not alter or exaggerate facts to pursue a possible reward.
Quick Recap
Common mistakes and how to correct them
- Sending a refund demand to DGGI: File the tax-evasion information separately and pursue the ticket or service dispute with the relevant provider.
- Using the grievance portal for an evasion allegation: A technical ticket will not replace a DGGI intelligence report.
- Reporting the venue instead of the seller: Identify the entity named on the invoice, ticket or payment record and explain the venue’s role.
- Guessing a GSTIN or legal name: Write “not known” and attach the document that omits it.
- Uploading unreadable files: Check every page at normal zoom and keep each file within the 10 MB limit.
- Presenting an assumption as a fact: Use “I observed” for documents and “I suspect” for matters only the tax authority can verify.
- Leaving out dates and amounts: Include purchase date, event date, venue, total paid and the exact GST amount or wording.
- Submitting someone else’s private data: Redact unrelated account numbers and other customers’ information while retaining originals securely.
- Ignoring OTP timing: Have your verified email and phone available; the DGGI form states that an OTP is valid for five minutes.
- Assuming silence means rejection: Keep the acknowledgement and use official jurisdictional contacts for a focused follow-up; no guaranteed decision period is published.
Final filing checklist
