Evaluate Palantir stock in two separate passes: first determine whether the business is executing, then decide whether the share price already assumes too much success. A repeatable review combines revenue growth by segment, results versus management guidance, GAAP profitability and dilution, cash-flow conversion, and valuation measured against clearly identified periods. Palantir’s recent growth figures are exceptional, but fast growth alone does not establish that the stock is attractively priced.
The framework below uses Palantir’s 2026 issuer materials and a dated market snapshot. Because guidance, financial statements, share counts, and market multiples change, update every input before making an investment decision.

Separate the company question from the stock question
“Is Palantir a strong business?” and “Is Palantir stock a good investment at today’s price?” are different questions. A company can increase revenue rapidly while its shares deliver poor returns if investors have already paid for years of that growth. Conversely, a modestly growing business can produce a good return if its price is low relative to the cash it can generate.
Use this order of operations:
- Measure the pace and composition of revenue growth.
- Compare reported results with the guidance management gave beforehand.
- Check whether GAAP earnings, margins, and per-share results support the adjusted narrative.
- Reconcile operating cash flow and free cash flow with net income.
- Translate the share price into market capitalization and valuation multiples using a stated period.
- Stress-test the assumptions required for the current valuation to work.
This process produces a range of plausible outcomes, not a guaranteed price target.

Start with revenue growth, then inspect its composition
Calculate both year-over-year and sequential growth
Year-over-year growth is calculated as (current-period revenue − prior-year comparable revenue) ÷ prior-year comparable revenue. It reduces some seasonal distortions, but the comparison period can still be unusually easy or difficult. Sequential growth compares the latest quarter with the immediately preceding quarter and can reveal a change in momentum that a year-over-year figure hides.
Record total revenue, segment revenue, customer counts or contract indicators disclosed by the company, and the comparable-period revenue used in each calculation. Do not treat one unusually strong quarter as a permanent growth rate. A durable conclusion requires several quarters and an explanation for the underlying demand.
Separate commercial, government, and geographic contributions
Palantir reported 93% year-over-year total revenue growth in the second quarter of 2026. U.S. commercial revenue grew 149% year over year in that quarter. Those figures show powerful momentum, but they do not tell you whether every customer group and geography is expanding at the same pace.

| Measure | Latest reported figure | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Total revenue | 93% year-over-year growth in Q2 2026 | Measures company-wide momentum; verify the comparable period and the quarter’s contribution to the full year. |
| U.S. commercial revenue | 149% year-over-year growth in Q2 2026 | Tests adoption among U.S. private-sector customers; determine whether growth comes from new customers, expansions, or a small number of large contracts. |
| U.S. government revenue | Not stated in the cited Q2 figures | Pull the exact period growth from the Q2 2026 Form 10-Q and earnings materials rather than inferring it from total revenue. |
| International revenue | Not stated in the cited Q2 figures | Check the filing for growth, currency effects, and geographic concentration. |
Mix matters because commercial and government contracts can have different sales cycles, renewal patterns, procurement risks, and margins. A headline rate led by one geography or customer type is less diversified than the same rate spread across multiple businesses.
Look for evidence that growth is broadening
- Compare the latest quarter’s commercial and government growth with the prior quarter.
- Check whether customer additions and expansions are rising together; a few large contracts can make revenue growth look stronger than the underlying customer base.
- Read contract duration, remaining performance obligations, or similar backlog indicators when disclosed. These are not the same as recognized revenue.
- Identify acquisition, divestiture, foreign-exchange, or accounting changes that affect comparability.
- Review sequential growth to see whether momentum is accelerating or merely benefiting from the prior-year comparison.
The Q2 result is meaningful evidence of momentum, not proof of a long-run 93% growth rate. Build a time series before changing your base-case assumption.
Compare reported results with management guidance
Keep a dated guidance ledger
Guidance is a forecast made under stated assumptions. It is useful because management has information about contracts and pipeline activity, but it is not a result and can be changed or missed.

| Q1 2026 earnings release | 71% full-year 2026 revenue growth | Earlier outlook; do not use it as the current full-year forecast after the Q2 update. |
| Q2 2026 earnings release | 82% full-year 2026 revenue growth; at least 134% U.S. commercial revenue growth | Management’s later forecast, not realized growth. Compare it with subsequent reported revenue. |
In the Q1 2026 release, CEO Alex Karp described management’s view this way: “Momentum surged as we grew 85% last quarter—our highest-ever year-over-year growth rate—by more than doubling our U.S. business, and now we are raising our full-year revenue guidance to 71% growth, 10 points ahead of our guidance from last quarter, driven by our confidence in an accelerating U.S. market.” This is management’s characterization of Q1 performance and the then-current outlook; it is not an independent estimate and the 71% figure was later superseded by the Q2 guidance.

- Save the guidance publication date, period covered, metric definition, and any range or minimum.
- When the period ends, record actual revenue using the same definition.
- Calculate the percentage-point difference between actual growth and guidance growth.
- Explain the difference using disclosed factors such as timing, customer concentration, foreign exchange, or changes in the contract pipeline.
- Track whether management repeatedly raises, maintains, or lowers guidance. A single raise is not enough to establish forecasting skill.
Keep external analyst estimates in a separate column. Consensus numbers are not company guidance, and they should never be presented as facts without a dated source and a defined metric.
Test profitability quality and per-share economics
Use GAAP as the anchor
Start with GAAP revenue, operating income, net income, and diluted earnings per share in the Q2 2026 Form 10-Q. Then examine adjusted operating measures to understand how management describes the business. Adjusted figures can be useful for comparing operating trends, but they should not replace the reported financial statements.
For each quarter, calculate:
- GAAP operating margin: GAAP operating income divided by revenue.
- GAAP net margin: GAAP net income divided by revenue.
- Diluted EPS growth: the change in GAAP diluted earnings per share, not only the change in net income.
- Adjusted-to-GAAP bridge: each exclusion, its amount, and whether it recurs.
Treat stock-based compensation as an economic cost
Stock-based compensation may not use cash in the period it is recorded, but it can increase the number of shares outstanding and reduce each existing holder’s percentage ownership. Read the stock-compensation expense, unrecognized future expense, option or restricted-share activity, and diluted share count in the 10-Q.
A business can report rising net income while diluted EPS grows more slowly if share issuance outpaces earnings growth. Use the diluted weighted-average share count in per-share calculations and compare it with the basic count and the period-end shares outstanding. Do not assume that an adjusted measure excluding stock compensation represents the return available to each shareholder.
Follow cash generation and liquidity
Reconcile net income to operating cash flow
Cash flow tests whether accounting earnings are turning into cash that can fund expansion, acquisitions, taxes, debt repayment, or shareholder returns. Review several quarters because a single period can be distorted by collections, annual contract billing, payables, or other working-capital movements.

Palantir reported $925 million of adjusted free cash flow in Q1 2026. The company also reported $8.0 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and short-term U.S. Treasury securities at March 31, 2026. Both figures require definition checks: “adjusted free cash flow” is company-defined, while the balance-sheet liquidity figure is a point-in-time amount.
| Cash-flow check | What to examine | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Operating cash flow | Cash generated by operations in the statement of cash flows | Shows cash produced before capital spending and financing. |
| Capital expenditures | Purchases of property, equipment, or other capitalized assets | Determines how much operating cash remains after reinvestment. |
| Free cash flow | Operating cash flow minus capital expenditures, using a clearly stated definition | Provides a basis for cash-based valuation, but definitions vary. |
| Adjusted free cash flow | Company calculation and every adjustment | Useful for management’s operating view; reconcile it to the SEC filing rather than accepting the headline figure. |
| Liquidity | Cash, equivalents, short-term investments, debt, and near-term obligations | Indicates resilience and the capacity to fund growth without issuing additional shares or borrowing. |
To reconcile an adjusted figure, begin with the company’s reconciliation, identify additions such as stock-based compensation or other noncash items, and then compare the result with the statement-of-cash-flows line items. Ask whether each adjustment is genuinely noncash, recurring, or economically transferable to shareholders.
Use cash conversion over time
Calculate cash conversion as operating cash flow or free cash flow divided by GAAP net income for rolling four-quarter periods. A ratio above 100% can reflect strong collections or working-capital releases; a low ratio can reflect investment or delayed billing. Neither is conclusive without reading the working-capital notes.
Compare free cash flow growth with revenue growth. If revenue expands rapidly but cash conversion deteriorates for multiple periods, investigate receivables, contract assets, deferred revenue, capitalized costs, and stock compensation before assuming the difference is temporary.
Translate the share price into valuation expectations
Record the timestamp and denominator
On October 12, 2026, Stock Analysis displayed a closing price of $209.00, market capitalization of approximately $502.24 billion, a trailing price-to-sales ratio of 81.59, and a trailing price-to-earnings ratio of 178.75. These are vendor-calculated, time-sensitive figures—not company-reported intrinsic values. The related statistics page was dated October 13, 2026.
| Valuation input | Reported snapshot | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Closing share price | $209.00 | October 12, 2026 close; it changes every trading day. |
| Market capitalization | About $502.24 billion | Third-party calculation; share-count conventions can differ by provider. |
| Trailing price-to-sales | 81.59 | Uses completed trailing revenue, not full-year 2026 guidance. |
| Trailing price-to-earnings | 178.75 | Uses trailing earnings and can move sharply as earnings or the share price changes. |
Price-to-sales is calculated as equity value divided by trailing revenue. Price-to-earnings is equity value divided by trailing net income attributable to common shareholders, subject to the provider’s calculation choices. Neither multiple incorporates future growth automatically.

Understand what a high multiple demands
A high price-to-sales ratio means the market is assigning substantial value to each dollar of current revenue. For the same share price, the ratio can fall if revenue compounds rapidly; it can also rise if the share price increases faster than revenue. A high P/E can compress when earnings grow, but it can expand again if investors demand a higher return or revise down expected growth.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Using the dated P/S snapshot as a simple illustration, moving from 81.59 times trailing sales to 20 times sales without a change in market capitalization would require trailing revenue to be roughly 4.08 times higher. That arithmetic is not a forecast or a fair-value estimate; it demonstrates how much growth or multiple compression the current price may be discounting.
Distinguish trailing, forward, and enterprise-value measures
- Trailing multiples use completed historical results and are less dependent on forecasts, but they may lag a rapidly changing business.
- Forward multiples use estimates or guidance and are only as reliable as the assumptions and source date.
- Enterprise-value multiples incorporate debt and cash differently from equity multiples. State whether cash, investments, debt, and noncontrolling interests are included.
- Per-share measures require a current diluted share count. Future equity compensation can reduce per-share value even if total earnings rise.
Different data vendors may use different fiscal periods, share counts, enterprise-value adjustments, and definitions. Recalculate or verify the denominator when a valuation conclusion depends on a small change.

The available figures do not establish a definitive discounted-cash-flow fair value. You can still test the price by making assumptions explicit and examining how the conclusion changes.
Use a transparent revenue-and-cash-flow model
Future revenue = starting revenue × (1 + annual growth rate)^number of years
Future operating profit = future revenue × operating margin
Future free cash flow = future operating profit × cash-conversion rate
Illustrative equity value = future free cash flow × chosen valuation multiple
Per-share value = illustrative equity value ÷ assumed diluted shares
Use the latest reported revenue and diluted share count from the filing as starting inputs. Set a separate assumption for each of the following:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Revenue growth by year, with a deceleration path rather than one permanent rate.
- Operating margin and the time required to reach it.
- Cash conversion from operating profit or net income.
- Stock-based compensation and annual share-count growth.
- Terminal or exit multiple, with a reason for the selected range.
- Discount rate if you are performing a discounted-cash-flow analysis.
Run at least three cases. The table below is an assumption framework, not a prediction about Palantir:

| Case | Growth path | Margin path | Cash conversion | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Downside | Rapid deceleration after the latest surge | Margins expand slowly | Below the mature-business case | Tests the effect of a growth disappointment or higher reinvestment. |
| Base | Growth moderates in stages | Margins improve as scale increases | Approaches a sustainable level over several years | Represents your central operating thesis. |
| Upside | Commercial momentum remains strong for longer | Margins expand faster | High cash conversion | Tests the amount of continued execution needed to justify the price. |
Do not select the upside case merely because it matches management’s most optimistic language. Require evidence for each step: new-customer growth, expansion rates, contract duration, gross-margin stability, operating leverage, and cash conversion.
Stress the assumptions that matter most
Change one variable at a time. Test a 10-percentage-point reduction in annual growth, a lower operating margin, a higher dilution rate, a delayed cash-conversion improvement, and a lower exit multiple. A valuation that works only under the most favorable combination is fragile even if the company is executing well.
Use a practical scorecard
| Question | Evidence to collect | Warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Is growth broad? | Total, commercial, government, and international revenue by quarter | Total growth depends on one customer group, geography, or contract. |
| Is execution meeting expectations? | Dated guidance compared with actual results | Repeated misses, unexplained changes, or guidance that depends on unverified pipeline. |
| Are profits high quality? | GAAP margins, net income, diluted EPS, and adjustment reconciliations | Adjusted growth is strong while GAAP margins or diluted EPS lag. |
| Is growth becoming cash? | Operating cash flow, capital expenditures, free cash flow, and working-capital notes | Cash conversion weakens for several periods without a clear investment explanation. |
| Is per-share value growing? | Diluted share count, stock compensation, and repurchases | Share issuance absorbs a material portion of earnings growth. |
| Does valuation fit the outlook? | Trailing and forward multiples, growth, margins, and cash-flow scenarios | The price requires a narrow, extremely optimistic path. |
Scorecards are decision aids, not mechanical buy or sell signals. A weak metric should lead to a specific investigation rather than an automatic conclusion.

Risks that can invalidate an otherwise attractive thesis
- Growth normalization: A very high comparison rate can fall quickly as the revenue base grows or unusually large contracts roll off.
- Customer and contract concentration: Delayed procurement, budget changes, or the loss of a large customer can affect quarterly results disproportionately.
- Government timing: Public-sector awards and renewals can be lumpy, and timing differences can move revenue between quarters.
- Commercial execution: Strong U.S. commercial growth must eventually be supported by repeatable customer acquisition, expansion, and retention economics.
- Stock-based compensation: Continued equity awards can dilute per-share results even when total revenue and profit increase.
- Valuation compression: A higher required return or lower expected growth can reduce the multiple investors are willing to pay while the business continues to grow.
- Definition risk: Adjusted free cash flow and other non-GAAP measures may exclude costs that remain economically relevant to shareholders.
- Data staleness: Palantir’s latest issuer materials cited here cover Q2 2026, and the quoted market ratios are from October 2026. Later filings and price changes can make the snapshot obsolete.
Refresh the analysis after each filing
- Download the newest earnings release and Form 10-Q or Form 10-K from the SEC filing record.
- Replace the prior quarter’s revenue, segment mix, GAAP income, diluted shares, cash flow, capital expenditures, and liquidity balances.
- Update the guidance ledger and mark which earlier forecasts were met, exceeded, or withdrawn.
- Recalculate trailing and forward multiples using the same definitions and a new timestamp.
- Rerun downside, base, and upside cases with the new operating data.
- Write down what evidence would prove your thesis wrong before looking at the stock’s next price move.
This cadence prevents a strong headline quarter or a dramatic share-price move from replacing a complete operating and valuation review.
Bottom line
Palantir’s Q2 2026 growth and U.S. commercial momentum warrant close attention, while its dated valuation snapshot shows why execution and price must be analyzed separately. The disciplined approach is to verify segment breadth, compare actual results with guidance, anchor profitability in GAAP and diluted EPS, reconcile adjusted cash flow with the filing, and test whether several years of growth and cash generation can plausibly support the market value. Because no independent fair-value estimate follows from the supplied figures alone, treat any target as your own assumption-driven scenario rather than an established fact.
