How to Compare Shriram Finance Fixed Deposit Rates With Bank FDs (2026 Guide)

Compare a Shriram Finance fixed deposit with a bank FD only after matching the tenure, cumulative or periodic payout, deposit amount, depositor eligibility and booking date. Then compare the maturity value or cash flow, premature-withdrawal rules and deposit protection. A higher quoted rate is not automatically the better choice because Shriram Finance deposits are NBFC deposits and are not insured by DICGC.

What the comparison should answer

The useful question is not simply “Which rate is higher?” It is “What will I receive, when will I receive it, and what protection and access do I have if circumstances change?” A sound comparison lines up identical inputs:

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  • the same maturity length, or the closest available term;
  • the same payout choice: cumulative at maturity or monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or yearly interest;
  • the same principal amount;
  • the same depositor category and any qualifying additions;
  • the rate available on the actual booking or renewal date; and
  • premature-withdrawal rules and deposit protection.

Bank rates change by tenure, payout method, amount, customer category and date. Check each bank’s current official rate table for the matching inputs rather than relying on a generic bank-FD rate or an old comparison article.

Shriram Finance rates effective 2 July 2026

Shriram Finance’s published cumulative, or “at maturity,” rates for resident individuals and non-individuals with deposits up to ₹10 crore were effective 2 July 2026. The company states that the applicable rate is the rate prevailing on the deposit or renewal date, so these figures are a dated reference, not a permanent offer.

Tenure Cumulative rate Important condition
12 months 6.85% p.a. Resident individuals and non-individuals; deposits up to ₹10 crore
15 months 7.10% p.a. Digital-only tenure
18–23 months 7.05% p.a. Resident individuals and non-individuals; deposits up to ₹10 crore
24–35 months 7.10% p.a. Resident individuals and non-individuals; deposits up to ₹10 crore
36–60 months 7.50% p.a. Resident individuals and non-individuals; deposits up to ₹10 crore

The 15-month rate is specifically digital-only. Do not assume it applies to an application made through another channel. Confirm the current channel, tenure and eligibility before paying.

Periodic-payout rates are different products

For 36–60 months, the same official table lists 7.25% p.a. for monthly interest, 7.30% for quarterly interest, 7.36% for half-yearly interest and 7.50% for yearly interest. These are cash-flow options, not interchangeable with the 7.50% cumulative maturity rate. In a cumulative deposit, interest remains invested until maturity; in a periodic-payout deposit, interest is paid out during the term. Compare the amount and timing of cash received, not just the displayed percentage.

36–60-month payout choice Published rate
Monthly 7.25% p.a.
Quarterly 7.30% p.a.
Half-yearly 7.36% p.a.
Yearly 7.50% p.a.

How eligibility additions change the advertised return

Shriram Finance advertises additions of 0.50% p.a. for eligible senior citizens, 0.05% p.a. for women depositors and 0.15% p.a. on qualifying renewals. The company says additions are applied to the yearly rate and reflected in shorter payout periods. These are eligibility-specific additions, not automatic increases for every depositor.

  • Check the definition of senior citizen and the documents accepted for age verification.
  • Confirm whether the women-depositor addition applies to the exact ownership structure, especially joint deposits.
  • For a renewal addition, verify that the deposit qualifies as a renewal under the current terms rather than a new booking.
  • Ask for the final applicable rate and maturity or payout amount before confirming the deposit.

The rate page checked on 13 October 2026 uses “up to” language for these benefits. Treat the headline as a maximum subject to eligibility and live terms.

Step-by-step method for comparing a bank FD

1. Fix the principal and ownership

Start with the amount you actually intend to invest and the ownership capacity in which it will be held. Use the same principal for the Shriram Finance quote and every bank quote. Ownership matters because depositor-category benefits and DICGC aggregation depend on how accounts are held.

2. Match the maturity period

Use the same number of months where possible. If a bank offers 365 days while Shriram Finance offers 12 months, record the exact day count and maturity date rather than treating them as identical. Compare a special 15-month digital-only offer with a bank’s 15-month product only if both are genuinely available to you.

3. Match cumulative and payout choices

Select cumulative with cumulative, or monthly with monthly. If your objective is income, compare the scheduled payment from each product. If your objective is a lump sum, compare the maturity amount. A periodic rate can be lower while still meeting an income need, whereas a cumulative deposit may produce more cash at maturity because interest stays invested.

4. Record the booking date and rate source

Write down the date and time of each quote, the tenure, payout type, depositor category and channel. Shriram Finance says the rate prevailing on the deposit or renewal date applies. Banks likewise update their schedules, so an earlier screenshot or advertisement may not describe your contract.

5. Apply only additions you qualify for

Calculate the ordinary rate first, then add a senior-citizen, women-depositor or qualifying-renewal increment only after confirming eligibility. Do not add two benefits merely because both appear in a headline; check whether the terms permit them together and how the issuer applies them.

6. Compare promised cash flows

Ask both issuers for a written maturity or payout schedule for the same principal and term. The schedule should show the rate, interest amount, tax treatment stated by the issuer, maturity date and net amount payable under the selected option. Comparing the displayed annual percentage without the schedule can hide differences in compounding, payout timing or day-count conventions.

7. Read access and default terms

Before choosing the higher quote, review premature withdrawal, lien or loan-against-deposit provisions, renewal instructions, nomination and death-claim procedures. A deposit that is difficult to exit can be unsuitable for an emergency reserve even when its rate is attractive.

Deposit protection: the decisive structural difference

Eligible bank deposits, including fixed deposits, are insured by the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC) up to ₹5 lakh per depositor per insured bank. The limit includes principal and interest. Deposits held in the same right and capacity across branches of one bank are aggregated, while deposits at separate banks receive separate limits, subject to the insurance rules.

DICGC states that NBFC deposits are not covered. Shriram Finance’s own fixed-deposit FAQ also says its company deposits are not DICGC-insured. Therefore, do not present a Shriram Finance FD as having the same protection as an eligible bank FD.

How to use the ₹5 lakh limit in a comparison

  • List all your eligible deposits at the same bank, including savings, current, recurring and fixed deposits held in the same right and capacity.
  • Add principal and accrued interest when assessing the ₹5 lakh ceiling.
  • Do not assume separate branches create separate insurance limits.
  • Check whether another bank is separately insured before treating it as a separate coverage bucket.
  • For an NBFC FD, assess issuer credit risk without counting on DICGC reimbursement.

A credit rating and deposit insurance answer different questions. A rating is an assessment of credit risk; it does not create insurance or guarantee repayment. Review the latest issuer disclosures and the terms of the specific deposit.

Liquidity and premature withdrawal

Shriram Finance’s FAQ says premature withdrawal is permitted solely at the company’s discretion and that interest reductions depend on how long the deposit has run. The exact reduction and conditions should be read in the application, deposit receipt and current terms before booking. Do not assume that a long-term FD can be cashed out whenever you want at the original rate.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The FAQ also says early repayment after a depositor’s death is subject to the stated rates and conditions. Nominees or legal heirs should follow the issuer’s claim process and obtain the applicable calculation rather than relying on the headline rate.

Ask a bank the same questions: Is premature closure permitted? Is there a minimum lock-in? What rate replaces the contracted rate? Is a penalty deducted? Who must approve the request? Does the bank permit a loan or overdraft against the deposit instead? Put the answers beside the quoted rates in your comparison sheet.

What happens to existing Shriram Finance deposits?

Shriram Finance’s fixed-deposit FAQ states: “There will be absolutely no changes for the existing deposits as we are obliged to pay the contracted rate till its maturity as per the current rules.” This is the company’s explanation of existing contracts. Your deposit receipt and the governing terms remain the documents to check for the contracted rate, maturity date, renewal instruction and any permitted changes.

Building a practical comparison worksheet

Use one row for each product and keep the inputs identical. A useful worksheet contains:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Field What to record
Issuer and product Shriram Finance FD or the named bank FD
Booking channel Digital, branch, agent or other permitted channel
Principal The exact amount invested
Tenure Months or exact days, plus maturity date
Payout Cumulative, monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or yearly
Base rate The rate shown for that tenure and payout
Additions Only benefits for which you qualify
Maturity or payout amount The issuer’s written schedule
Premature closure Permission, revised rate, penalty and process
Protection DICGC status and how the amount fits within applicable limits
Quote date The date the rate was checked

Once completed, rank the choices by the outcome you value: guaranteed cash flow at a particular date, liquidity, protection, or the highest quoted return. A single ranking is misleading when those objectives differ.

Common comparison mistakes

Comparing a cumulative rate with a monthly rate

A maturity rate and a monthly-income rate distribute interest differently. Use the corresponding maturity or payment schedule instead of placing the percentages in one league table.

Using the maximum rate for every depositor

The senior-citizen, women-depositor and renewal additions are conditional. Verify eligibility and whether the benefit applies to the ownership pattern and channel you will use.

Ignoring the digital-only condition

The 15-month 7.10% rate is identified as digital-only. An application through another channel may not qualify for that tenure or rate.

Assuming a bank’s branches multiply insurance

DICGC aggregates eligible deposits across branches of the same insured bank when they are held in the same right and capacity. Branch shopping does not create new ₹5 lakh limits.

Treating a rating as insurance

Credit quality information and statutory deposit insurance are not substitutes. Record them separately in your risk assessment.

Using stale rates

The Shriram Finance table is date-stamped 2 July 2026, while the additions were checked on 13 October 2026. Obtain live quotations on the day you book or renew, and retain the receipt.

Is Shriram Finance’s rate higher than bank FD rates?

There is no responsible single answer without a bank, tenure, payout method, depositor category, amount and booking date. The cited Shriram Finance cumulative table ranges from 6.85% for 12 months to 7.50% for 36–60 months, with a 7.10% digital-only 15-month option. Current bank rates must be checked in each bank’s official live table for the same inputs. A bank may quote a different rate for a similar-looking term, and the comparison can change when a special customer benefit or payout choice is applied.

Even when the Shriram Finance percentage is higher, include the absence of DICGC cover and the company’s discretionary premature-withdrawal rule in the decision. A lower bank rate may suit a depositor who places greater value on the applicable insurance limit or easier access.

A decision framework

Choose the bank FD when protection is the priority

First verify that the bank and deposit are eligible for DICGC insurance. Keep the principal plus expected interest within the ₹5 lakh per-depositor-per-insured-bank limit if that is your protection objective, and aggregate all deposits held in the same capacity at that bank.

Consider Shriram Finance only after accepting the different risk profile

Confirm the live rate, issuer terms, payout schedule and withdrawal conditions. Treat the deposit as an NBFC product without DICGC insurance, then decide whether the additional return, if any, compensates for the risk and access differences for your circumstances.

Split money by purpose rather than chasing one headline

An emergency reserve needs accessible terms; a planned future payment may tolerate a longer cumulative term. If you divide funds between institutions, document each maturity date, nominee, renewal instruction and applicable protection limit.

Booking-day checklist

  1. Open the current official rate table for Shriram Finance and the bank you are considering.
  2. Select the same principal, tenure and payout type.
  3. Confirm whether the quote is cumulative or periodic and whether a tenure is digital-only.
  4. Verify your depositor category and every claimed addition.
  5. Request the maturity or payment schedule in writing.
  6. Read premature-closure, death-claim, nomination and renewal clauses.
  7. Check DICGC eligibility for the bank product and calculate your aggregate exposure at that bank.
  8. Save the rate page, application confirmation and deposit receipt with the booking date.

Bottom line

Shriram Finance’s dated cumulative rates are 6.85% for 12 months, 7.10% for a digital-only 15-month deposit, 7.05% for 18–23 months, 7.10% for 24–35 months and 7.50% for 36–60 months, effective 2 July 2026. Compare those figures with a bank’s live quote only after matching the payout, term, amount and eligibility. The decision also turns on protection: eligible bank deposits have DICGC cover up to ₹5 lakh per depositor per insured bank, while Shriram Finance company deposits are not DICGC-insured. Include liquidity and issuer terms before choosing the rate that appears highest.
