How to Compare SanDisk With Other NAND Flash Memory Stocks (2026 Guide)

Compare SanDisk on NAND exposure, not headline company revenue. SanDisk is a NAND-centered, vertically integrated storage company, while Samsung Electronics, SK hynix and Micron combine NAND with other memory businesses such as DRAM and HBM. Kioxia is a closer NAND-focused comparison, and YMTC is another important NAND competitor. A useful comparison therefore matches the same fiscal period, currency, accounting basis, market-share definition and end market before looking at valuation.

SanDisk’s FY2026 results show why this discipline matters: the company reported a sharp improvement in revenue and gross margin during a strong part of the NAND cycle. Those are historical results, not a forecast or a stock recommendation. The framework below shows how to use them without mistaking a peak-cycle snapshot for a normal earnings level.

What SanDisk is and why the comparison is unusual

SanDisk became a standalone publicly traded company under ticker SNDK on February 21, 2025, after separating from Western Digital. Its 2026 Form 10-K describes the company as a leading global semiconductor memory company with more than 30 years of NAND flash innovation. The business is vertically integrated and sells storage products across datacenter, edge and consumer markets.

Its product range includes solid-state drives, embedded products, removable cards, USB drives, wafers and other components. That breadth gives SanDisk several revenue streams, but the underlying technology exposure remains concentrated in NAND flash. This is why comparing SanDisk’s total revenue directly with the total revenue of a diversified semiconductor company can produce a misleading result.

Is SanDisk a pure-play NAND stock?

SanDisk is best described as NAND-centered rather than a literal single-product pure play. It participates in multiple storage form factors and end markets, yet its results are far more directly tied to NAND pricing, bit shipments, utilization and inventory conditions than those of companies whose earnings also depend heavily on DRAM, HBM, foundry or other operations.

That distinction affects both risk and valuation. A NAND-centered company can show larger earnings swings when NAND prices move, while a diversified peer may absorb some of that volatility through other businesses. The comparison should therefore separate NAND operating performance from the effect of diversification.

2025 NAND market share: establish the market snapshot first

A useful starting point is the 2025 NAND revenue-share estimate reproduced in Winbond Electronics’ 1Q26 investor presentation and attributed to Omdia’s Mobile and Embedded Memory Market Tracker. The exhibit reports total 2025 NAND revenue of USD 72.9 billion. These are revenue shares, not bits-shipped shares, and they are a third-party estimate rather than issuer-reported results.

Company 2025 NAND revenue share How to use the figure
Samsung Electronics 30% Largest share in this Omdia-attributed revenue snapshot; total-company results include businesses beyond NAND.
SK hynix 20% Large NAND position, but company-level results also reflect other memory activities.
Kioxia 15% NAND-focused peer and an especially relevant manufacturing comparison for SanDisk.
Micron 13% NAND competitor whose broader memory portfolio must be separated from NAND when possible.
SanDisk 12% NAND-centered company; the share does not measure profitability or stock value.
YMTC 9% Important NAND competitor; public financial comparability may be limited.
Other vendors 1% Residual category in the same Omdia-attributed exhibit.

Market share answers a scale question, not an investment question. It does not establish which company has the best gross margin, lowest cost, strongest balance sheet, highest free cash flow or most attractive valuation. Use the percentages only as a common market map, then move to company filings and segment data.

SanDisk’s FY2026 baseline and what it says about the cycle

SanDisk Corporation’s August 5, 2026 results release provides the company-specific baseline below. The figures are GAAP unless otherwise identified and describe completed historical periods.

Period or measure Reported result Qualification
FY2026 revenue $20.248 billion Full-year reported revenue.
FY2026 GAAP gross margin 71.5% Full-year GAAP margin.
FY2026 GAAP operating income $12.389 billion Full-year GAAP operating income.
FY2026 GAAP net income $11.433 billion Full-year GAAP net income.
Q4 FY2026 revenue $8.965 billion Quarterly revenue; up 51% sequentially and 372% year over year.
Q4 FY2026 GAAP gross margin 84.6% Quarterly GAAP margin.

The end-market split shows where that revenue came from:

End market Q4 FY2026 FY2026
Datacenter $2.977 billion $5.153 billion
Edge $5.432 billion $12.160 billion
Consumer $556 million $2.935 billion

The unusually large sequential and year-over-year changes demonstrate why one quarter is not a normal earnings base. NAND prices, customer deployments, inventories and factory utilization can all change rapidly. SanDisk’s own risk disclosures identify demand and average-selling-price volatility, competitor actions, technology transitions, supply interruptions and the timing of customer deployments as material uncertainties. Treat the FY2026 figures as a cycle observation, then examine several quarters before deciding what earnings are sustainable.

How SanDisk compares with Samsung, SK hynix, Kioxia, Micron and YMTC

The companies in the Omdia-attributed market exhibit are relevant competitors, but they are not interchangeable stocks. Start by classifying their business mix before comparing revenue or earnings.

Company NAND comparison role Diversification issue Questions to ask
SanDisk NAND-centered, vertically integrated storage company. Multiple storage products and end markets, but concentrated NAND sensitivity. How much of the margin improvement came from NAND pricing, mix, utilization and customer deployments?
Samsung Electronics Largest company in the 2025 NAND revenue-share snapshot. Total-company results include substantial businesses outside NAND. Can the filing isolate NAND revenue, profitability, capital spending and inventory effects?
SK hynix Second-largest share in the same snapshot. NAND performance is mixed with other memory activities, including higher-value memory exposure. What portion of earnings is attributable to NAND rather than other memory products?
Kioxia NAND-focused peer and strategic partner of SanDisk. More directly comparable on NAND than diversified memory companies, but partnership and joint-manufacturing arrangements matter. How do capacity, technology transitions, costs and partner obligations compare?
Micron Material NAND competitor. Company results span multiple memory categories, so total revenue is not a NAND proxy. Are NAND margins and cash generation improving independently of DRAM or HBM conditions?
YMTC NAND competitor represented in the market-share estimate. Public disclosure and directly comparable financial data may be less complete. Which figures are independently verifiable and measured on a comparable basis?

How does SanDisk compare with Micron?

SanDisk gives investors more direct NAND sensitivity because its operations are centered on NAND storage. Micron is a broader memory company, so its consolidated revenue, operating income and valuation can reflect non-NAND conditions. A fair comparison uses Micron’s disclosed NAND results, if available, rather than treating total Micron revenue as a substitute for SanDisk’s NAND-centered revenue.

Why Kioxia deserves separate attention

Kioxia is both a market-share peer and a strategic partner identified in SanDisk’s risk disclosures. That relationship makes manufacturing arrangements, supply commitments, technology road maps and partner dependence part of the comparison. It also means that a purely headline-based competitor analysis can miss an important operational connection.

Align the accounting before comparing numbers

Build a comparison only after normalizing five dimensions:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Fiscal period: Record each company’s fiscal-year end and quarter end. Do not compare SanDisk FY2026 with a peer’s earlier fiscal year simply because the labels look similar.
  2. Currency: Convert reported figures to one currency using a stated convention, or keep them in local currency and compare ratios instead. State the exchange-rate date and whether the conversion is average-rate or period-end.
  3. Scope: Use NAND segment revenue and operating income where disclosed. Mark consolidated figures clearly when NAND is not separately reported.
  4. Accounting basis: Keep GAAP and non-GAAP measures in separate columns. Do not compare a GAAP SanDisk margin with a peer’s adjusted margin without explaining the adjustments.
  5. Share count: For valuation, use diluted shares for earnings multiples and a clearly dated basic or diluted share count for market capitalization.

If a company does not disclose a needed field, write “not stated” and explain the limitation. Filling a missing NAND margin or cash-flow figure with an estimate creates false precision.

Compare end markets, not just products

NAND demand differs by customer and application. Separate at least four buckets:

  • Enterprise and datacenter SSDs: Demand can be tied to infrastructure deployment schedules, qualification cycles and workload growth.
  • Client and edge storage: PC, workstation, industrial and edge systems can have different replacement and inventory patterns.
  • Mobile and embedded: Handsets and embedded devices often have distinct seasonality, capacity requirements and customer concentration.
  • Consumer products: Removable cards, USB drives and retail SSDs can carry different pricing, channel inventory and branding dynamics.

SanDisk reports datacenter, edge and consumer revenue separately, so those categories should be tracked over time rather than collapsed into one total. For a peer that reports only a broad memory segment, note that the comparison is weaker. A company with a larger datacenter mix may have different average selling prices and qualification cycles than one weighted toward mobile or retail products, even when both sell NAND.

Measure the NAND cycle across several quarters

NAND is cyclical. A strong quarter can result from pricing recovery, customer restocking, favorable mix, higher utilization or delayed demand being released at once. A weak quarter can reflect inventory correction rather than permanent loss of competitiveness.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For each company, chart at least six to eight quarters of:

  • Realized NAND average selling price, if disclosed.
  • Bit shipments and bit-growth guidance.
  • Revenue by end market.
  • Gross margin and operating margin on the same accounting basis.
  • Inventory dollars, inventory days and write-downs.
  • Factory utilization and capital expenditure.
  • Operating cash flow and free cash flow.

Look for agreement among the indicators. Rising revenue with falling bit shipments may indicate pricing or mix rather than volume growth. Rising shipments with weak margins may indicate aggressive pricing or excess inventory. Margin expansion accompanied by lower inventories and improving cash flow is generally more informative than a single revenue increase, but the conclusion still depends on the company’s disclosures and the point in the cycle.

Financial quality: the metrics that matter beyond market share

Revenue and operating income

Use NAND segment revenue and operating income whenever a company reports them. Consolidated revenue can overstate NAND exposure for diversified peers and understate the importance of a high-margin non-NAND business. Record whether operating income is GAAP, adjusted or not separately disclosed.

Gross margin and cost position

Gross margin reflects pricing, product mix, manufacturing cost, utilization and inventory charges. Compare trends rather than isolated peaks. A margin that rises because prices recover is different from a margin that rises because a company permanently lowers cost per bit.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Capital expenditure and free cash flow

Capacity additions and technology transitions require substantial capital. Compare capital expenditure as a percentage of revenue, then examine operating cash flow, free cash flow and the timing of payments. A company can report strong accounting earnings while cash is absorbed by expansion, inventory or partnership commitments.

Balance sheet and dilution

Include cash, debt maturities, restricted cash, lease obligations and diluted share count. Net cash can provide resilience during a downturn, while leverage can amplify both upside and downside. Stock-based compensation and other issuance should be reflected in per-share calculations.

Manufacturing, technology and partner dependence

NAND competitiveness depends on process transitions, layer-count progression, yield, ramp timing, cost per bit and the ability to add capacity without creating excess supply. Review each company’s disclosures for:

  • Technology-generation transitions and expected qualification dates.
  • New-fab or expansion plans and the capital required.
  • Yield or ramp commentary.
  • Wafer starts, utilization and inventory commitments.
  • Joint ventures, strategic partners and minimum-purchase obligations.
  • Exposure to equipment, materials or logistics disruptions.

SanDisk specifically identifies reliance on strategic partners, including Kioxia, as a risk. That does not by itself indicate a weakness; it means the dependency belongs in the model. Ask whether a partner arrangement improves scale and access while reducing control over capacity, timing or economics.

Valuation: avoid peak-cycle traps

Compare market capitalization and enterprise value with normalized, mid-cycle earnings or cash flow rather than using one quarter’s annualized profit. A peak-cycle price-to-earnings ratio can look deceptively low because earnings are temporarily elevated. A trough-cycle multiple can look expensive even when the balance sheet and long-term capacity are sound.

A practical valuation worksheet should include:

  1. Share price and date of observation.
  2. Basic and diluted shares outstanding.
  3. Market capitalization.
  4. Debt, cash and other material adjustments used to calculate enterprise value.
  5. Trailing-twelve-month and mid-cycle revenue.
  6. Trailing and normalized operating income, net income and free cash flow.
  7. Separate NAND and non-NAND earnings where the filing permits.
  8. Scenario ranges for NAND pricing, bit growth, utilization and gross margin.

State every assumption, especially the normalization period. Do not present a valuation multiple as a recommendation; it is only meaningful relative to comparable assumptions and risk.

A step-by-step process for comparing NAND stocks

  1. Define the date: Choose a common market-date and a common reporting period. Record each company’s latest filing date and fiscal-year end.
  2. Build the peer list: Start with SanDisk, Samsung Electronics, SK hynix, Kioxia, Micron and YMTC, then note which companies have limited public disclosure.
  3. Classify exposure: Label each company NAND-centered, diversified memory or broader semiconductor. Do not use total-company revenue as NAND revenue.
  4. Capture market share: Use one publisher and one basis. The 2025 Omdia estimate reproduced by Winbond is revenue share; do not combine it with a bits-shipped estimate.
  5. Normalize financials: Align currency, fiscal periods, GAAP versus non-GAAP presentation and diluted shares.
  6. Split end markets: Record datacenter, edge, client, mobile, embedded and consumer exposure where disclosed.
  7. Review the cycle: Chart multiple quarters of pricing, shipments, inventory, utilization, margin and cash flow.
  8. Assess technology and supply: Examine process transitions, capacity, yields, joint ventures and partner commitments.
  9. Calculate valuation: Use enterprise value and market capitalization against normalized earnings or cash flow with dated assumptions.
  10. Write the limitations: Mark every unresolved field as not stated rather than filling it with an unsourced estimate.

Common comparison mistakes and how to correct them

Mistake: treating market share as a quality score

Correction: Use share to establish scale, then test profitability, cost, cash generation, technology execution and balance-sheet strength.

Mistake: comparing total-company revenue

Correction: Isolate NAND segments or clearly label a consolidated comparison as incomplete.

What the available data does not establish

A complete, current peer table of NAND-only revenue, margins, capital expenditure and free cash flow calculated on a common period and accounting basis is not available from the cited material. The appropriate next step for an investment analysis is to obtain each company’s latest official filing and isolate the NAND business where possible. If a peer does not disclose a metric, retain the gap in the table instead of estimating it.

The 2025 market-share exhibit is also a third-party estimate reproduced by Winbond, not a company filing. A quarterly market tracker published on September 3, 2026 did not expose a detailed share table in the available page text, so it should not be substituted for the Omdia-attributed figures above.

Bottom line: the right way to compare SanDisk

SanDisk is a concentrated way to gain exposure to NAND storage, with datacenter, edge and consumer products but less diversification than Samsung Electronics, SK hynix or Micron. Kioxia is a particularly relevant NAND-focused peer and strategic partner; YMTC is a significant competitor whose public comparability may be more limited. The 2025 Omdia-attributed revenue shares provide context, while SanDisk’s FY2026 results illustrate the power of the cycle. A defensible comparison keeps those facts separate, normalizes periods and accounting, studies several quarters of operating data, and values each company on normalized cash generation rather than on a single peak or trough result.
