Move your Revolut balance to an external bank account or to another Revolut customer, clear every remaining product and pending transaction, then use the app’s Profile → Settings (or Account) → Close account route. Download statements before you submit the request. The exact blockers and waiting period depend on your country, plan and products.
Do not assume that closing the app or deleting it closes the account. Revolut’s closure process checks balances, pending activity and linked products, and some local help pages impose extra conditions. Start only after you know where the money is going and have time to resolve anything still open.

1. Decide where your money will go
Have the receiving bank account details ready before you start. Revolut’s relocation guidance says to send the balance to an external account or to another Revolut customer before closing. It does not provide a route for transferring money between two accounts that belong to you for this purpose.
External bank transfer
An external transfer is the usual choice when you are leaving Revolut. Verify the recipient name, account number or IBAN, sort code or other local routing details, and the currency the receiving account accepts. The closure pages reviewed do not establish a universal transfer speed, fee or exchange rate, so check the amount and any displayed charges in your app before confirming.

Use an account in your own name when possible, especially if you are moving a substantial balance. Check that the receiving bank accepts the currency you are sending; otherwise you may incur a conversion or the payment may be rejected. Keep the transfer receipt or confirmation until the money appears in the destination account.
Transfer to another Revolut customer
If a trusted person has a Revolut account, an internal transfer can be useful for a small remainder or for an amount you do not want to send through an external bank. Confirm the recipient’s details carefully. This is not the same as moving money to another account you own: Revolut says transfers between your own Revolut accounts are not available for this relocation purpose.
Tell the recipient why you are sending the money and keep a record of the amount and date. An internal transfer to someone else is not a substitute for paying an outstanding card, credit or subscription obligation that belongs to you.

Move every currency and sub-account
Review the account overview, each currency account, and every Pocket. A visible main balance of zero is not enough if another currency or Pocket still contains money. Convert or transfer each balance using the options shown for that currency, then recheck the list after transactions settle.
Look for balances held in savings-like areas, investment or crypto sub-accounts, and any youth or linked product that has its own balance. Make a simple checklist of currencies and products and mark each one only after its balance is zero or its closure instruction is complete.

Not every product appears in every country’s list. A customer with crypto, investments, insurance, credit, youth products or a chargeback should open each product and follow its own closure instructions rather than relying only on the main-account screen.
Allow investments to settle
Ireland’s closure guidance says customers who sell shares in Flexible Cash Funds must wait two business days for payments to settle. That is an Ireland-specific operational term, not a general Revolut closure timetable. Other investment products or jurisdictions may show different requirements in the app.

Do not treat a submitted sale as completed. Check that the position is closed, the proceeds are available as cash, and no additional transaction is pending. If the app displays a settlement date, wait for that date before trying to close.
Check recurring payments after cancellation
Cancel subscriptions and inspect scheduled payments before you close. A pending card payment may need to finish even after a subscription has been cancelled. Keep evidence of cancellations if you might later need to dispute a charge.
Review direct debits, card-based subscriptions and recurring transfers separately. Cancel them with the merchant where required; closing a Revolut account is not a guarantee that a merchant has stopped billing. Resolve refunds or disputed payments before closure if your local checklist requires no pending activity.

Some outbound transfers have a minimum amount. If the balance is below that threshold, Revolut’s help pages describe three possible solutions:
- Add funds until the balance reaches the minimum, then send the full amount to your external account.
- Send the remainder to a Revolut friend using an internal transfer.
- Donate the remainder through the app’s Donations feature.
Only use the options displayed in your account. Feature availability can vary by country, account type and app version. If a transfer is still rejected after you have followed the displayed minimum, contact support rather than repeatedly submitting it.
Adding funds can make sense only when you can do so safely and the resulting transfer is permitted. Do not leave a negative balance or assume a tiny amount will be written off automatically. If none of the displayed options works, ask support how to clear the balance and keep the case reference.
4. Close the account in the Revolut app
The official help pages for the United Kingdom, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, France and Italy describe a similar navigation path, with minor label differences:

- Open Revolut and tap the profile icon in the top-left corner.
- Choose Settings or Account, depending on the label shown in your version of the app.
- Tap Close account.
- Read the on-screen conditions, resolve anything the app identifies, and confirm the request.
Take screenshots of the confirmation screen if you need a record of the request. When the account is fully cleared and all products have already been closed, Portugal’s help page says closure may be immediate. That statement should not be treated as a promise for every country or product combination.

If the close option is missing, update the app only through the official app store, sign in again, and check the local help instructions. Do not create a second account to work around a blocked closure; ask support how to proceed with the existing account.
5. Country-specific timing and requirements
Country rules are not interchangeable. The following details come from the named local help pages and should be read as limited to those jurisdictions.

Portugal’s possible one-month handling period applies when products and balances have not been cleared before the request. It is not a general estimate for every Revolut customer. Likewise, the 14-day free-closure statement applies to the Portugal page’s first 14 days after opening, not to accounts in every country.
6. If you cannot access the app
Revolut says its team can help when a customer has lost a phone or otherwise cannot sign in. The United Kingdom and Italy instructions direct customers to email [email protected] from the email address associated with the account. Support may ask for identifying information and will provide verification steps.
Before sending anything, confirm the current contact route and identity requirements on your local Revolut help page. Do not send passwords, one-time passcodes, full card numbers or identity documents to an address you have not verified. If you still have access to the email account but not the phone, explain that clearly so support can give the appropriate recovery process.
Include a concise request to close the account, your country of residence, the email associated with the account and a description of the access problem. Avoid guessing security answers or repeatedly attempting logins, which can create additional verification steps. Support may need to confirm ownership before discussing balances or arranging a withdrawal.
7. Save statements and evidence before closure
Download the statements and documents you may need for taxes, budgeting, proof of payment, a landlord or lender, or a future dispute. Include records for each currency and relevant investment or card activity. Once the account is closed, obtaining historical documents may be less convenient.

Revolut says it sends confirmation after closure. Keep that message with your final statements and any evidence that subscriptions, chargebacks, investments or credit obligations were resolved.
Understand data retention
Closing the account does not necessarily mean every record is erased immediately. Revolut’s closure pages direct customers to the Customer Privacy Notice for information about data retained after closure. The applicable retention period and legal basis depend on your jurisdiction and the type of record.

You are waiting for a card payment
Do not close while a card or bank transaction is pending if your local checklist prohibits it. Wait until the status changes and verify that any resulting debit or refund is reflected in the balance.

You have several currencies
Open each currency account separately and confirm a zero balance after transfers or exchanges. A currency account that is easy to overlook can keep the closure request from completing.
You are closing after selling an investment
Confirm that the sale is settled, not merely submitted. Ireland’s two-business-day Flexible Cash Funds rule illustrates why a completed sale and an available cash balance are different stages.
You are relocating abroad
Check whether the destination country is supported and whether Revolut requires the existing account to be closed before a new local account is opened. Plan for a period in which the money sits in your external bank account, because the reviewed guidance does not promise a particular transfer speed.
You want to leave a tiny amount behind
Use the low-balance options shown in the app: top up to the transfer minimum, send it to another Revolut customer, or donate it if that feature is available. The account generally cannot be closed cleanly while an unhandled balance remains.

Check both positive cash and amounts you owe. Ireland’s checklist specifically mentions credit obligations, and other markets may show similar product-specific requirements. Do not assume that transferring your cash settles a separate credit product.

9. A practical sequence that avoids most delays
- Choose and verify the receiving account.
- Transfer every currency, Pocket and other balance out of Revolut.
- Review pending transactions, scheduled payments and subscriptions.
- Close or settle investments, crypto, insurance, credit, Kids & Teens products and chargebacks that appear in your local checklist.
- Downgrade a paid plan to Standard if your local instructions require it.
- Download statements and other records.
- Use Profile → Settings or Account → Close account and complete the prompts.
- Keep the closure confirmation and monitor the receiving account for the transferred funds.
If the app presents a product-specific error, follow that product’s instructions first. If you cannot sign in, use the verified support route for your country and ask for the account-closure procedure.
