Start with the FTC refund directory
The refund directory is the authoritative starting point for active FTC programs. It lists the cases, links to their program information, identifies administrators, and provides scam warnings. A search result, social-media post, email, or old article is not a substitute for the current case page.

Search for the case that fits your situation
- Open the FTC refund directory.
- Search the listed companies or case names for the business connected to your purchase, account, subscription, or loss.
- Open the matching case page rather than relying on a general FTC refund description.
Several cases can involve similar products or conduct. Match the named company, the relevant purchase or conduct, and the dates described on the case page. If the facts do not fit, do not submit a claim simply because the company name looks familiar.

Use the case page as the controlling source
The case page supplies the details that vary from one program to another: eligibility rules, covered transactions or dates, whether a claim is required, the filing channel, any claim identifier, documentation rules, the last day to submit, and the official administrator’s contact information. Check that page immediately before filing because deadlines and payment status can change.
Determine whether you actually need to file a claim
An FTC refund program does not always require a consumer application. The agency first tries to identify eligible recipients from information supplied by the defendant or other reliable records.
When the FTC sends money automatically
If the FTC has reliable names and contact information for eligible customers, it may send a check or electronic payment directly. In that situation, the case page or an authentic notice may tell you to wait for payment or update your contact details rather than complete a claim form. Do not create a separate application unless the program specifically asks you to.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
When a claim is required
The FTC may ask consumers to apply when its records do not contain enough information to identify everyone who may qualify. The program page will say that a claim process is open and explain how to use it. A claim form can request information needed to connect your purchase or loss to the case; the exact questions and supporting-document rules are case-specific.
Filing a claim is only a request for review. It does not establish that you are eligible or guarantee a particular payment.
Check eligibility before the deadline
Eligibility and deadlines belong to the individual program. Read the named case page for the covered conduct, purchase or account dates, geographic limits, age or representative rules, and any proof the administrator asks you to provide. The general FTC directory cannot determine your eligibility from the title alone.
Deadlines are not transferable between cases
Every program sets its own filing window. A date quoted for one settlement does not apply to another company, even if both involve refunds. A program can stop accepting claims as soon as its stated window closes, so use the live case page rather than an old web article or forwarded message.

Examples of program-specific dates
| Program page | Published claim deadline | Status shown on the page |
|---|---|---|
| NGL Settlement | April 6, 2026 | No longer accepting claims |
| Golden Sunrise | May 12, 2026 | No longer accepting claims |
Those dates illustrate why checking the exact case matters. They are closed-program examples, not deadlines for any other FTC refund.
Record the details that control your filing
- The exact case or company name.
- The purchase, account, or conduct covered and the relevant dates.
- Whether the page says a claim is required.
- The final submission date and time zone, if the page specifies one.
- The filing route, such as an online form or another method listed by the administrator.
- Any claim number, notice code, age requirement, representative rule, or document instruction.
- The administrator’s official phone number or other contact method.
How to file an FTC refund claim
Use this sequence only after the case page confirms that a claim process is open for your situation.
- Confirm the match. Compare the case name and eligibility description with your transaction or account. If the conduct or dates do not match, stop and look for another case.
- Read the entire filing section. Note the deadline, accepted submission method, required identifier, age or representative conditions, and documents the program asks for.
- Use only the listed filing route. Open the form or instructions from the official case page. Do not follow a link supplied by an unsolicited caller or message unless you independently confirm it through the FTC directory.
- Enter information exactly. Use the name, contact details, and transaction information that the program requests. If the form asks for a claim identifier, copy it carefully from the authentic notice.
- Provide only requested supporting material. The case page controls what evidence is relevant. Do not send extra sensitive information merely because someone says it will speed payment.
- Submit before the stated cutoff. Leave time for a confirmation screen, email, or other receipt. A draft or an attempted upload is not the same as a completed submission.
- Save your records. Keep a copy of the completed form, confirmation, documents, submission date, and the administrator’s contact details. These records help if you need to ask about status.
If the form will not submit
First check that you are still before the program’s deadline and that every required field is complete. Reopen the case page from the FTC directory and use its current filing route. If the issue continues, contact the administrator through the number or method shown on that page. Do not switch to a phone number supplied by an unsolicited intermediary.
Prepare for a case-specific filing
Before opening a claim form, read the eligibility and instructions from start to finish. Make a short list of the facts the program actually asks for, such as the covered transaction, account information, dates, claim identifier, or representative details. Having those details available can prevent an incomplete submission, but do not send documents or data that the program does not request.
Use the same spelling and contact information that appears in the authentic notice or in your records, unless the form instructs you to report a change. If you are filing for another person or an estate, check the page for its age or representative rules before beginning. Those rules are not the same in every case. If the program provides a choice of online, mail, or another submission method, use only the options it lists and keep proof of the method and date you used.
What happens after you submit
The program reviews and validates claims
The FTC describes a review process in which claims are checked against the program’s eligibility rules and available information. The administrator may request supporting details or clarification. Submission alone is not approval, and the agency does not promise that every claimant will receive a payment.
Payment amounts depend on the program
The program determines how available funds are distributed among approved recipients. The amount can depend on the funds collected, the number of approved claims, and the program’s allocation method. A large advertised case total therefore does not predict what any individual will receive.

Monitor legitimate updates
Keep the contact information you submitted current when the case instructions provide a way to update it. Watch for an official status notice or payment, and retain the case page and your submission records. If you receive a message asking for a fee or unusual information, pause and verify it through the FTC directory before responding.
Recommended Free Tools
Verify the administrator and avoid refund scams
Scammers impersonate the FTC and refund administrators. Confirm the case and administrator’s phone number in the official directory before calling or replying. The Federal Trade Commission warns: The FTC will never threaten you, say you must transfer money to “get a refund,” or promise you a prize.
Payments and claims are free
The FTC says consumers do not have to pay to file a claim or receive an FTC refund. The NGL program page states, The FTC never asks you to pay to file a claim or get a refund.
An upfront fee, a demand for a money transfer, or a promise of guaranteed eligibility or faster access is a scam warning.
Be cautious with sensitive information
The FTC says it does not require sensitive details such as your Social Security number or bank-account information to issue an FTC refund. Treat a request for those details as suspicious unless the official case instructions clearly explain a legitimate, necessary process—and verify the request through the directory before providing anything.
Check the message, not just the logo
- Find the same case independently in the FTC refund directory.
- Compare the phone number with the number displayed on the official case page.
- Do not transfer money, buy gift cards, or pay a “processing” or “release” charge.
- Do not trust threats that you will lose a refund unless you act immediately.
- Ignore promises of a prize, guaranteed payment, special access, or a faster refund.
If your situation does not fit the normal path
The deadline has passed
When a case page says it is no longer accepting claims, the ordinary filing window is closed. Do not pay a third party that promises to reopen it or obtain a late exception. Recheck the official page for any status or contact instruction, but assume that a closed claim period cannot be extended unless the FTC or the program expressly says otherwise.

Return to the FTC directory and search by the company or case name printed in the notice. Verify the administrator and phone number there. If the name is absent or the details conflict, treat the notice as potentially fraudulent and do not use its contact information until the directory confirms it.
You cannot tell whether a claim is required
Read the case page’s payment and claims sections. Some programs identify recipients and send payments automatically; others require an application. If the wording remains unclear, contact the administrator using the verified method listed by the FTC, not a number supplied in an unsolicited message.

Your facts overlap more than one program
Compare each matching page by the company or case name, covered purchase or conduct and dates, claim requirement, deadline, filing channel or claim-ID rule, administrator contact, and payment status. Apply only to programs whose eligibility descriptions actually cover your situation. Do not choose a program because its potential refund sounds larger; distributions depend on each program’s funds and approved-claim count.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to compare two possible programs
If a company has appeared in more than one FTC matter, do not assume that one claim covers all of them. Put the programs side by side and check the exact defendant or case name, the conduct or product covered, the relevant dates, and any geographic or account limitations. Then compare whether each program requires a claim, the claim identifier or filing channel, the deadline, the administrator’s verified contact, and whether payments are still being issued.
Keep separate notes and confirmation records for separate programs. A claim submitted to one administrator does not automatically transfer to another. Likewise, a deadline shown on one page cannot be used to justify a late filing on another page. Payment size is a poor comparison tool because each program divides its own available funds among its own approved recipients.
How the FTC refund process works
The process starts with identifying eligible recipients. When defendant data supplies reliable names and contact information, the FTC may send checks or electronic payments without an application. When the data is incomplete, the program opens a claims process so consumers can provide information for review. The program then validates eligibility and divides available funds under its rules.
The FTC’s calendar-year 2024 process overview reported these historical figures:
| Measure | Calendar-year 2024 figure |
|---|---|
| Cases using defendant data to send checks or electronic payments | 26 |
| Cases in which a claims process was completed and payments were sent | 7 |
| Cases with first-round payments | 33 cases totaling nearly $315 million |
| Refund programs closed | 25 programs returning more than $148 million |
| Average returned per person in those closed programs | $127.58 |
| Average program cost per person | $5.79 |
These are agency totals and averages for 2024. They describe past programs, not a forecast of your eligibility, deadline, or payment.
Personal checklist before you finish
- Have you opened the exact case from the FTC refund directory?
- Does the eligibility description cover your purchase, account, conduct, and dates?
- Does the page say whether you must file a claim?
- Have you recorded the program’s own deadline rather than relying on a date from another case?
- Are you using only the filing route and administrator contact shown on the official page?
- Did you save your submission and confirmation?
- Have you rejected any request for an upfront fee, money transfer, prize payment, or unnecessary sensitive information?
Bottom line
Find your case in the FTC refund directory, read that program’s eligibility and deadline rules, and use only its listed filing channel and administrator. Some recipients are paid automatically; others must submit a claim that is reviewed. Deadlines, documentation, and payment methods are case-specific, and legitimate FTC refunds never require a fee.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I file a claim?
Open the FTC refund directory, select the exact company or case, and follow that page’s filing instructions. It will identify the accepted submission method, any claim number or notice code, required information, and deadline.
Do I need to file a claim to get an FTC refund?
Not always. The FTC may send checks or electronic payments automatically when it has reliable customer names and contact information. A claim is required only when the specific program says eligible consumers must apply.
What is the deadline for my FTC refund claim?
There is no universal FTC deadline. The named program page controls. For example, the NGL Settlement page listed April 6, 2026, and the Golden Sunrise page listed May 12, 2026; both pages indicated that claims were no longer being accepted.
Is this FTC refund message real?
Verify the company or case and the administrator’s phone number independently in the FTC refund directory. The FTC will not threaten you, demand a transfer, promise a prize, or charge a fee to file or receive a refund.
What if the claim deadline has passed?
If the official page says it is no longer accepting claims, the ordinary filing period is closed. Recheck the page for an official status contact, but do not pay anyone who promises to reopen the program or obtain a special exception.
What information or documents will a claim require?
Requirements differ by program. The case page may request transaction or account details, a claim identifier, representative information, or supporting documents. Provide only what that page asks for.
How much money will an FTC refund pay?
No general amount can be promised. The program divides available funds among approved recipients, so payments depend on the funds collected, the number of approved claims, and the program’s allocation rules.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWho should I contact about my claim?
Use the administrator’s contact information shown on the official FTC case page or an authentic notice, and verify the phone number through the FTC directory. Do not rely on contact details supplied only by an unsolicited message or caller.
The Bottom Line
Use the FTC refund directory to find the exact program, confirm eligibility and its own deadline, and follow only the listed filing and contact instructions. Claims and refunds are free; beware anyone demanding money or sensitive information.
