To claim a Kerala lottery prize, keep the original winning ticket, write your name, address and signature on its reverse, assemble the documents required for the prize amount, and submit the claim to the office or bank route specified by that draw’s official scheme. Deadlines are draw-specific: the BR-107 2025–26 scheme says tickets must be surrendered within 90 days, while amended rules contain different late-claim powers. Use the scheme printed for your ticket as the controlling instruction and contact the Directorate promptly if the deadline is close or has passed.

What to do immediately after discovering a winning ticket

Handle the ticket as the primary proof of the win. Do not laminate it, write across the printed details, staple it, or send it to an unverified intermediary. The compiled Kerala Paper Lotteries rules require surrender of the original ticket, and the BR-107 2025–26 scheme gives special submission instructions for first- and second-prize tickets.

  1. Check the draw and prize details. Record the lottery name, draw number, draw date, ticket number, prize category and the date printed on the ticket or scheme. The claim period and receiving office can differ between schemes.
  2. Sign the reverse. Write your name, address and signature on the back of the original ticket, as required by the rules.
  3. Protect the paper. Keep it flat and dry. Make clear photocopies or scans of both sides for your records, but do not substitute copies for the original.
  4. Read the applicable scheme. Locate the official scheme for that exact draw. Do not apply the BR-107 routing or 90-day period to another lottery unless its own scheme says so.
  5. Start the document file. For claims above ₹5,000, gather the Form VIII receipt, photograph, identity proof and ticket copies described below before choosing a submission route.

The rules require the ticket to be checked for genuineness. Older general provisions also warn that torn, tampered or mutilated tickets may be rejected. If the ticket is damaged, do not attempt repairs; ask the receiving lottery office how it wants the original presented before you dispatch it.

Documents required for a claim above ₹5,000

The amended rule text reproduced in the official compiled rules PDF sets out the following list for prize claims above ₹5,000. Confirm whether the particular draw has additional instructions, especially for a bank-routed or out-of-state claim.

  • Original winning ticket: submit the physical ticket in good condition, with your name, address and signature on the reverse.
  • Stamped receipt in Form VIII: complete the official receipt form and obtain the required stamp.
  • Recent passport-size photograph: have it attested by a Gazetted Officer or by a bank authority.
  • Self-attested ticket copies: provide copies of both the front and back of the winning ticket, signed by you.
  • Self-attested identity proof: the amended text lists a passport, ration card, Election Identity Card, driving licence or PAN card.

Self-attestation means signing the photocopy yourself, normally after checking that it is legible. Keep the original identity document available in case the receiving office asks to inspect it. The cited rule text specifies this document list for claims above ₹5,000; do not assume that every item is mandatory for a smaller prize. Check the draw’s instructions and the office handling the claim.

Extra paperwork for bank and out-of-state claims

Claims submitted through a bank

A bank route is not simply a matter of handing over the ticket. The amended rules add the winner’s authorization and certificates from both banks involved:

  • your written authorization for the bank to submit or process the claim;
  • a certificate from the collecting bank; and
  • a certificate from the receiving bank.

Ask the specific bank for its current format, signatory requirements and dispatch procedure before giving it the original ticket. Keep a signed copy of your authorization and a receipt showing when the bank accepted the documents.

Winners who live outside Kerala

The amendment says the listed documents for prize winners from outside Kerala should be attested by a Notary Public. That is an additional formality, not a replacement for the original ticket or the other documents. Contact the intended receiving office first so you know whether it wants the notarized copies, the original documents for inspection, or a particular postal or bank route.

For BR-107 2025–26, an out-of-state winner claiming ₹1 lakh or more should present the claim to the Director. This threshold is specific to that scheme and should not be treated as a rule for every Kerala lottery.

Deadlines: why you must check the exact draw

There is no single period that can safely be quoted for every Kerala lottery ticket. The official compiled rules PDF contains older general provisions as well as later amendment language, and the BR-107 2025–26 scheme sets its own surrender period.

Document or rule text Period or power stated How to use it
Older general provisions in the compiled rules Some text refers to a 30-day period, including claims above ₹1 lakh before the Director, and describes earlier condonation arrangements. Treat as historical language unless it appears in the scheme governing your draw.
Later amendment text reproduced in the compiled rules (identifier 32/20/08) District Lottery Officer: up to 30 days; Deputy Director: up to 45 days; Director: up to 60 days, on valid grounds. These are delay-condonation powers, not an automatic extension. You must give a valid reason and obtain acceptance from the competent authority.
BR-107 2025–26 scheme Winning tickets should be surrendered within 90 days. Use this 90-day period for BR-107 2025–26 unless the Directorate issues a later instruction for that draw.

Submit as early as possible rather than relying on condonation. If the ordinary period is about to expire, send the complete claim through the permitted route and retain proof of dispatch. If it has already expired, contact the Directorate or the office named in the scheme immediately, explain the circumstances and ask which authority can consider a late claim. A condonation limit does not guarantee that a late ticket will be paid.

Where to submit a Kerala lottery prize claim

The receiving office depends on the draw, prize tier and, in some cases, your state of residence. The BR-107 2025–26 scheme provides the clearest example:

BR-107 2025–26 situation Permitted destination or route
First prize or second prize ticket Surrender to the Director of State Lotteries in person, by insured or registered post, or through a Nationalised/Scheduled Bank, Kerala Bank, or State/District Co-operative Bank.
Prize of ₹10 lakh or less Claim at a District Lottery Office or Sub Lottery Office, subject to the scheme’s instructions.
Winner outside Kerala with a claim of ₹1 lakh or more Present the claim before the Director.

These thresholds and routes are scheme-specific. A different draw may assign a different sanctioning office or claim period. If your ticket is not BR-107 2025–26, find the scheme for that draw before choosing an office.

Directorate contact information

The Directorate contact page lists the following details:

  • Office: Directorate of Kerala State Lotteries, Vikas Bhavan P.O., Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala 695033.
  • Telephone: 0471-2305193, 0471-2305230, and 0471-2301741.
  • Email shown on the page: cru[dot]dir[dot]lotteries[at]kerala[dot]gov[dot]in.

Contact details can change. Verify them with the Directorate before mailing an original ticket, particularly for a late, damaged, high-value or out-of-state claim.

Step-by-step claim procedure

1. Identify the controlling scheme

Write down the exact lottery and draw date from the ticket. Obtain the official scheme for that draw and look for the sections covering surrender period, prize-wise sanctioning authority, bank submission and out-of-state winners. This step prevents applying BR-107 rules to another lottery.

2. Determine the prize tier and your submission office

For BR-107 2025–26, compare the prize with the ₹10 lakh District/Sub Lottery Office threshold and check whether the ticket is a first or second prize. If you live outside Kerala and the claim is ₹1 lakh or more, the scheme directs you to the Director. For any other draw, follow its own table or instructions.

3. Prepare the original and copies

Sign the reverse of the original ticket. Make readable copies of both sides and self-attest them. Keep the original separate from the copies until submission. If the ticket has tears, stains, alterations or other damage, seek instructions before sending it.

4. Assemble documents for an above-₹5,000 claim

Complete Form VIII, obtain the required stamp, arrange the attested passport photograph, select one of the listed identity documents and self-attest its copy. Add any bank authorization and bank certificates if you are using a bank route. Out-of-state winners should arrange the notarization specified in the amendment.

5. Choose a secure delivery method

Use only a route allowed by the applicable scheme. BR-107 2025–26 expressly mentions personal delivery, insured or registered post, and submission through the named bank categories for first- and second-prize tickets. Ask for an acknowledgement when delivering in person or through a bank. For post, retain the receipt, tracking record and a complete copy of everything sent.

6. Submit before the printed deadline

Record the dispatch or handover date. The BR-107 scheme’s 90-day period runs from the relevant draw, while another scheme may state a different period. Do not wait for a response before taking action if the deadline is approaching.

7. Monitor the claim

Keep your ticket copy, Form VIII copy, identity-proof copy, postal proof and any bank acknowledgement together. If the office requests clarification, answer through the official contact details and keep a written record of what was requested and when you supplied it.

How to handle a late claim

Late-claim powers in the amended rules are discretionary and divided by authority: up to 30 days for the District Lottery Officer, 45 days for a Deputy Director and 60 days for the Director, when valid grounds are shown. These figures do not convert an expired claim into an automatic entitlement. The authority may require an explanation and supporting evidence, and the applicable draw scheme may control instead.

Write to or speak with the office named in the scheme as soon as you realize the deadline has been missed. State the draw, ticket number, prize, date of discovery, reason for delay and the action you are requesting. Do not send the original ticket to an address obtained from an unofficial message; verify the recipient first.

Common mistakes that can delay or defeat payment

  • Using a photocopy instead of the original: the rules require surrender of the original winning ticket.
  • Missing the reverse-side signature: write your name, address and signature on the back before submission.
  • Assuming 30 or 90 days applies universally: the period depends on the exact scheme and current rules.
  • Sending an above-₹5,000 claim without the specified documents: Form VIII, attested photograph, ticket copies and identity proof are listed in the amendment.
  • Ignoring bank formalities: a bank-routed claim needs authorization and certificates from the collecting and receiving banks.
  • Forgetting notarization when outside Kerala: the amendment calls for notarized versions of the listed documents for out-of-state winners.
  • Mailing a damaged ticket without advice: torn, tampered or mutilated tickets may be rejected; ask the authority how to proceed.
  • Quoting a guaranteed net prize: tax and surcharge may be deducted as required by law, so the amount received can depend on the law applying when the claim is paid.

Tax, verification and other conditions

The lottery office checks the ticket’s genuineness and may reject a ticket that is not acceptable under the rules. Tax and surcharge can be deducted from a prize claim as required by law. The available claim instructions do not establish one fixed tax rate for every winner, so calculate the final amount only after the applicable law and the authority’s calculation are known.

For BR-107, one ticket receives only the highest prize awarded to it. The scheme identifies Thiruvananthapuram as its legal jurisdiction. Those provisions belong to that scheme; read the equivalent section of another lottery before relying on them.

Practical checklist before you dispatch the claim

  • Exact lottery name, draw number and draw date confirmed.
  • Applicable scheme and claim period saved or printed.
  • Original ticket signed on the reverse and protected from damage.
  • Copies of both ticket sides made and self-attested.
  • Form VIII completed and stamped where required.
  • Recent photograph attested by a Gazetted Officer or bank authority.
  • Self-attested copy of an accepted identity document.
  • Bank authorization and both bank certificates, if using a bank route.
  • Notarized documents arranged when the amendment requires them for an out-of-state winner.
  • Receiving office and address verified through the Directorate or the scheme.
  • Postal tracking, bank acknowledgement or in-person receipt retained.

Bottom line for Kerala lottery winners

Start with the original ticket and the official scheme for its exact draw. For claims above ₹5,000, prepare the Form VIII receipt, attested photograph, self-attested ticket copies and accepted identity proof; add bank certificates or notarization when your route requires them. BR-107 2025–26 uses a 90-day surrender period and sends specific prize tiers to the Director or district offices, but those instructions are not automatically universal. Submit promptly, preserve proof of delivery and verify the current receiving office before sending the original.
